Snowflake day 15
Jan. 15th, 2019 07:43 amDay 15
Talk about why you participated in Snowflake &/or what you got out of it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
This has been my first time participating in Snowflake. I’d honestly never heard of it before last month, when I saw
turps and
green post about it. It sounded like it could be fun, so I decided to do it (especially since I decided I was gonna try and put myself out there more.
So before the challenge started I didn’t know what I was gonna get out or what to expect.
I didn’t expect it to be as big as it was, or so broad.
Anyway, like I said, I came into it with no real idea of what was going to happen over the last 15 days, but I told myself I was gonna try and do them all. I knew it would be pretty easy at first anyway (the first few days I was off from uni so had nothing set that I needed to do). I’ve ended up doing each day’s challenge, most of the time time incorporating them into regular posts (but sometimes like this one doing them on their own).
The challenges themselves have been fun and interesting. Some of them required a little thought, but most I could do as soon as I saw them. I’m not sure which one I liked the most, although Day 10’s post did result in me doing a bunch of Ray Toro fic, which is always good. Between snowflake and bandom holidays it feels like my creativity is back at a high, which is great.
Snowflake has also let me to interacting with other people. I’ve not commented on every participant (because, wow, so many), but there were a few days were I looked through the comments on the day’s posts and then replied to people’s posts. It’s been fun interacting with new people as a result and getting a few new followers on here. I know there’s a friending meme thing in the next few days so feel free anyone to add me.
One thing that has surprised me is that I’ve noticed a few people have Due South in their tags. I vaguely remember watching it forever ago, but never expected (or even thought) that there’d be any sort of fandom around it.
Anyway, the snowflake mods have been really great coming up with these challenges and keeping it together (and, managing to reply to everyone!)
I’ve said this before to a few people, but after being on tumblr for awhile (which was a hellsite, with its purity and call out culture and the general lack of friendliness and interaction) this whole thing has felt like a breath of fresh air. I hope people stick around here on dreamwidth and continue interacting and creating. That would be great.
2018 for me was an awful year, but I’m hoping that 2019 will be so much better. Snowflake has really helped with that.
Now this challenge is done I’m probably gonna continue making regularly posts more (probably not daily like I have for the challenge but still) and I’m gonna keep on writing. I’ve found my spark for it again and I’m hoping it doesn’t die again,
Ok that whole thing was probably pretty sappy (and I just woke up before I started writing it so hope it’s not riddled with mistakes or anything).
Once I’m a bit more awake I’m gonna do more uni stuff (which is continuing to look at the different types of rock) and then head out to get meds and such. (And, hopefully, not get too tired so I can fic some more.)
Hope everyone has a good day!
Edit: I’ve now been given an image of Ray in a mini skirt which means I won’t be able to concentrate all day.
Also I forgot to link to the challenge from Day 12 which is still going so feel free to leave bandom related prompts or fill the ones there!
