shadowhive: (Sherma Singing)
Last night was the game awards and, as always, it was more about upcoming games and trailers than the actual awards. It always bothers me that some of the awards are spedran, without even the chance for the winners to come onstage. (Plus it’s so long, it started 12:30 and lasted until about 4am here)

For those that didn’t see it here are a bunch of things that happened:

*Sleep Token played in the overview trailer!
*Hades II, Hollow Knight Silksong and Donkey Kong Bananza all ran one award each (Best Action game, best Action/adventure game and best family game)
*Clair Obscure Expedition 33 win pretty much everything they were up for
*The whole Clair Obscure team were there, all of them wearing Berets
*There was a warframe video, Werner Herzog voiced and was in it
*Miss Piggy was there and was hilarious, it was also heavily implied she and the presenter of the awards spent the night together and had sex
*She also did a song with Rolf (I think that’s his name) which name checked everything from kingdom hearts to discord
*Maggie Roberson (tall vampire lady from Resident Evil) did a skit about a survival training session which was so funny
*Her and Neil Newborn presented the best voice acting award and were so funny
*There was a cut sheep herding cgame
*There was a trailer for a game that featured a man getting burned alive in a wicker man type thing, while there was an orgy going on. This wasn’t warned for and was in the first hour of the show (it’s also by the studio that did Baldurs Gate III, it’s called Divinity)
*There’s a new Tomb Raider game, as well as a remake. The latter looks bonkers and features dinosaurs
*Theres not one but two Star Wars games! The first I suspected would be a franchise game cause of how the trailer was cut (long shots, not showing characters) but I suspected it was Star Wars cause of the hiss of smoke when the boarding ramp went down, then the lightsaber sound confirmed it
*the other one is Galactic racer and is a dancing game, like the podracer games but with other ships too. It looks so cool and has Sebulba coming back!
*Resident Evil Requiem revealled that Leon is coming back! (Which everyone guessed but it was nice to confirm)
*Evanesence performed the song they did for Devil May Cry (I need to watch it)
*A new Megaman game is coming, but not till 2027
*There was a clip from Street Fighter and the cast came onstage
*There was a cool game called Ontos by the people that made Soma (and the voice of Stellan Skarsgård)
*There was an awesome onstage announcement/trailer for a new control game and it’s so cool I’m glad I’m playing the first game.
*The Game Awards orchestra was so great, plus the flute guy kept changing is flute which was fun

I’m sure there was other stuff too that I’ve missed from it, cause there was a lot, but yeah. As you can see there was a lot of wild stuff.

I am a bit annoyed that the Hades II and Silksong devs didn’t get a chance to get onstage for their awards, they both deserved more love. (And honestly, it feels like a fluke that they didn’t but Expedition 33 was just… a powerhouse)

I am so hyped for the Star Wars games, especially racer and Resident Evil (I need to get back to 4). I’d say those three, Control Resonant, Ontos and Tomb Raider are the ones I’m most curious about, but I am kinda curious about a divinity. I mean that trailer was absolutely insane it was certainly memorable.

But ugh the whole thing was tiring and it has made me drained today.

Now to see if my brain will work on other things and then… I dunno. Maybe I’ll go on Control later

Thursday’s appointment went ok, though was annoying. I went early thinking I could get there and wait inside but nope, the lunch hour for the opticians is between 1-2 (which makes having appointments at 2 feel really odd). It was just using a new peripheral testing machine which was fine though for some reason my eye decided to water part way through.

When I got back I watched the Pokopia thing I missed and ahh it looks so good! It really feels like it’s a Pokémon version of animal crossing, though it lets you have way more Pokémon than you could ac villagers. It feels there’s more to it than just a life sim though, there is a mystery aspect teased and I’m so curious. I really am so hyped for it.

(And speaking games I’ve still not sorted Hyrule Warriors. I was thinking of getting it when my money went in but I’ve still not. I think it’s partly cause I wanna finish Pokémon ZA first, I don’t want it to fall by the wayside like silksong and hades II. But also I know sales are coming and mums annoying friend so…)

In the night there was Taskmaster which was fun. It was the final and everyone wore pirate outfits and honestly? They all looked incredible in them. This was a pretty fun group too! Instead of just teasing one thing the post show trailer shown the new year treat and next champion of champions which was a surprise. I guess the latter is coming pretty soon.

Yesterday ended up being lazy day which I had expected cause of deliveries but we also got hit by the storm so it was raining and windy all day, to the point we didn’t even walk Naryu. Instead we just bundled up, finished Murder Before Evansong, which was pretty good, than children in need, which was eh and Sister Boniface which was good too if a tad sad.

Of the deliveries one was fine one wasn’t. The first was the 5 Seconds Of Summer order which was meant to be a picture vinyl and cd. However when I opened the package there was the vinyl but no sign of the cd. I’ve contacted support so we’ll see what happens. I did order the member cds cause the bundle came back, with a signed card (damnit Ashton and Luke signing on themselves so their signatures aren’t clear😭) so not having the regular one isn’t a big loss but still… (thoughts on the album in another post when I’ve listened more).

The other package was fine. It had the new Lego Star Wras advent calendar cause it had £14 off (and it’s cool, it’s got a bunch of droids!) and a buildable pokedex which I didn’t know was a thing till I saw it in an email. It looks so cool though, it’s pretty much lifesize and even has a light! The screen is also a set of plates with lenticular images so it can shown one of 5 pokemon (the kanto OG starters, Pikachu and Eevee) so it is pretty cool! It also has a stand which can hold the plates but it doesn’t seem to be as secure as it could be.

In the night I watched the IT blu ray that I got last week and it was pretty wild. Like all I knew about it was the sewer drain scene from the start and I didn’t expect it to be as brutal as it was. But yeah thewhole thing was wild I so intrigued by the lore stuff and to see some in welcome to Derry (but having that fire for the film backstory is such a bad choice) and I’m super curious to see chapter 2, hopefully soon.

The cex in town does have it listed in stock so I’ll swing by when I pick up my jacket (they’re pretty much right next to each other) so hopefully it’ll be there. The plan for that trip has also been changed too. The cinema added a morning showing for Keeper so I’ll see it then, which is better than seeing it at 5:40 like I was gonna cause it means I’ll be back before night.

Today was another lazy type day, though at least we walked the pup. Tonight I watched the next Who ray eps, which was Pyramids Of Mars. This is an odd one to post thoughts about cause I did watch it fairly recently, cause they put it out as a Tale Of The Tardis when Sutekh was bought back.

It is a pretty good ep and I really like the Egyptian vibes. It’s a shame there’s not been more Egyptian type stuff in Who. It’s also so creepy in places, especially when the controlled Professor Scarman encounters his brother. At the same time it’s funny, the meme scene of Sarah Jane and the Doctor turning and walking out on seeing a mummy in the last part is so funny, as is the poacher who gets crushed by two mummies pressing themselves against him. That wouldn’t be as funny if the mummies chests weren’t so… ample. (The tardis wiki pic doesn’t do them justice)

Also it’s incredible that Sutekh is sold just by a vocal performance, since he’s just paralysed the whole time. The fact hat he still comes off as threatening is a credit to his actor. And speaking of actors Sarah Jane gives a lot of heart and we actually get an answer to a question often unasked: why doesn’t the doctor just leave when something bad happens? (Plus who knew she was such a good shot??)

Tomorrow I’ll go through the special features of the disc, but also there’s a bunch of other stuff. I wanna watch a film (either Fantastic Four First Steps or Glass Onion), then DND and I wanna do some iconning and putting music on the pod thing. (Plus I wanna poke my fic brain)

And I wanna listen to the next Night Vale and Redacted eps (the later being a new podcast about an X-Files type unit so I’m already sold on the concept). But damn I really have rambled, oops.
shadowhive: (Barkovitch Take a picture)
Doing a spooky season update post now before Frankenstein tomorrow. (It’s a lot slimmer causa sickness but..)

Day 22: Pokémon ZA, eso

Pokémon ZA ahas mostly been running from alpha Pokémon and beating rogue mega evolutions. Hpwever today’s also featured exploring the sewers and it honestly felt nice to explore a ‘dungeon’ location. It’s a same it’s the first (and probably only) one cause it was pretty fun to explore (though I know there’s places I can’t get to yet). I’ve also finally changed one of my Pokémon, but the one I changed is now so under levelled it’s a struggle.

Day 23: Black Phone 2, Pokémon thrills and chills stream

Black Phone 2 was discussed here. I can’t remember all that much of the Pokémon stream alas, but I feel it was random ones again.

Day 24: monster train 2

Monster train was just a quick run, I didn’t do too well cause my focus was off. I’ve never actually completed a run on either monster train alas. The difficulty just ramps up like crazy.

Day 25: nine bodies in a Mexican morgue, treehouse of horror vi + vii

Nine Bodies was… interesting. It narrowed the group down to five at the start of the ep and that number just kept shrinking as it went on. In some ways it did feel like a finale ep, but there’s still one ep to go and the killer has t been revealled. (I’ll be so frustrated by it if it is a random other person like it seems to imply)

I watched Treehouse Of Horror eps while my pad did an update (I don’t like how it’s changed things) and they were both pretty solid entries. I had considered watching another tonight but I don’t think I have the focus.

Day 26: High Potential - Chasing Ghosts, Pokémon ZA, nightwatch

High Potential had a Halloween ep! And it was so great, possibly my fav of the season so far. A+ work on them deciding to have a spooky themed ep releasing now.

Also there was Nightwatch, where Daisy May Cooper and her brother stay at haunted locations. This was the first ep and it felt like it should have been longer than half an hour. It was fun, but there wasn’t really much ghost hunting.

Day 27: Strange New Worlds, ESO

I already commented on Strange New Workds, which was a great ep. But otherwise the day was more focussed on resting with occasional games of marvel snap (which is Halloween themed right now) and trying to get the last spooky season rewards on Fortnite and Fall Guys.

Day 28: Spooky season mix came,

Yesterday was a tiring day so I didn’t do much spooky (other than the aforementioned gaming for spooky rewards) but I got sent a spooky mix cd and cute Halloween card! Alas cause of all the stuff going on I’ve not had a chance to listen but hopefully soon.

Day 29: Pokémon ZA, War Of The Worlds [2025]

Finally there is the new War Of The Worlds film which I just watched. (The amazon one with ice cube.)

A found footage type war of the worlds could, in theory, be a really great concept. This attempt at it wasn’t it though. Like, I can see what they were going for but it doesn’t quite work.

There’s a variety of reasons that it doesn’t. The main guy starts off as creepy (following his daughters movements on security cams, hacking her fridge, deleting stuff off his son’s computer) and it genuinely feels like he was more interested in spying on them than doing his actual spying job.

It gets better once the ‘meteors’ arrive, causing destruction and then revealing their tripods (which are a cool design). But then another of its flaws show up. This whole film is essentially real time and yet everything is happening so fast. You mean to tell me every nation on earth decides to put their differences aside and co-ordinate an offensive in a matter of minutes? Or that there’s news reports of everything happening as it’s happening? Plus there was the whole reason the tripods are here they want our data to feed on. Which just feels… absurd?

However, I came into this expecting it to be terrible and honestly? I liked it more than I expected to. Like it’s still not great but there are some good things. Like I said the tripods are cool and most of the supporting cast did a good job (or at least as best as they could). It was mostly filmed during covid so it is pretty good what they could accomplish filming wise. (I feel people would be more forgiving if it hadn’t been held back for years and become so distant from then)

Would I recommend it? I’m not sure. If you go in with low expectations you’ll probably find something to like, but if you want a good war of the worlds film there are so many better options.
shadowhive: (4th Doctor Jelly Baby)
So yesterday was my birthday, I had intended to make a post about it last night but alas, my eyes went too achy. (And the spooky season catch up will be in another post)

I didn’t actually get much for the day, the main thing from mum (and her friend) was Pokémon ZA, which since it was a code I had been on since release (on and off cause of gig/opticians/tiredness). However! It did come with the bonus stuff from Nintendo which came a few days ago so I had that to open.

Inside the was a cap with a mega stone symbol on it, a mug with the starters on (with a lumiose symbol inside), an umbrella (I think with the starters on I can’t remember what the pic on the site had), a set of pins of the starters, a figurine of the starters and two figurines of the mega charizard. It is quite a lot for a bonus! I haven’t taken the figurines out of their packs but the pins look so nice as does the mug. (Some pics are here

(And mum’s friend also sent chocolate)

I did spend some more time on Pokémon ZA and I am enjoying it so far. I now have a wartortle (it did feel wrong not choosing Bulbasaur from the kanto starters but I really needed a good water type so) and battled my first rogue mega evolution which felt straightforward enough. The second one however was much harder.

I do feel that the game has done an odd choice though. The game has something called the ZA a royale and you have to climb the ranks from Z to A by fighting trainers in the battle zones at night. The thing I find odd is the game just leapt me forward from rank V to rank F which, I dunno, it felt kinda like cheating to skip that much? But other than that it’s pretty fun. I need to go clothes showing properly now I have more in game cash (though I do like my current fit that I stumbled on) and I’m debating switching one of my team for something else though I’m not sure what yet.

I also had lots of Midna cuddles, at one point Naryu was curled on my lap so Midna climbed on my chest and rubbed her lil face against me which was so sweet.

Also cause of my birthday I got a bunch of birthday codes from various plays and some are so annoying. Some last a good few weeks, whereas others are only for a week and so are practically useless.

In the afternoon (after finding the remote that went awol) I put on the first ep of Strange New Worlds on the itv player. It felt like a bit of an odd one to open with as it was half dealing with the aftermath of discovery season 2 (which I vaguely recall) while he actual ep itself was a traditional ‘first contact goes wrong’ kinda story. I am interested in finding out more about the new characters, cause I’ve only seen them from Star Trek timelines (a mobile game with characters from all the shows) and the transporter chief is so cute. Hopefully the next few eps will flesh the new characters out a bit more. But overall it was a good ep but didn’t feel like a great first ep to start with (and damn the eugenics wars info at the end is so depressing).

I had to pause it at some point cause we had a delivery which was a mix of pet food and, thankfully in a separate box, Doctor Who season 13. Also during it we had some of the red velvet cake which was nom but damn, mum didn’t even put candles or anything before just slicing pieces.

In the night we had dominos cause a birthday email came through (not mine, theirs) and it was good, but not as nice as I remember it being last time.

Then I watched Terror Of The Zygons, the first episode on the Who ray boxset.

The episode has the Doctor bought back to Earth to investigate the destruction of oil rigs off the coast of Scotland, which turn out to be caused by a monster…

Zygons is a bit of an odd one in some ways. From the booklet (and the making off) the story was meant to round off the previous season and be 6 parts. Instead this the first of season 13 story and it’s a 4 parter. I do wonder what got trimmed to make to 4 instead of 6. (As I’ve mentioned before sometimes 6 parters are too long, but sometimes not.)

The Zygons themselves are a really great design and it’s clear why they stuck in peoples memories despite only appearing in this ep of old who. Their organic technology of their ships are really unique (if a bit funny to watch sometimes) though it does mean the ships exterior (which is a good looking model!) feels like it doesn’t fit. Their whispery voices do make it hard to hear them sometimes which is a shame though. Their Skarasen is a great concept but it does kinda feel like the execution wasn’t as good as they hoped for which is a shame. (I do wonder if those 2 other eps would have featured it more and so they were glad it didn’t!) I wonder if the creature is still there, lurking in the loch.

It is a bit sad this is the last Unit ep. Like it’s a good ep for them but doesn’t feel like the last time we’ll see them (bar the odd appearance). The Brigadier is always great of course. It’s a shame it’s Harry’s last main ep too cause he was really good in this (and his actor was so scary when a zygon impersonated him). Also Sarah Jane was brilliant as always, it was nice seeing her able to put her investigation skills to work (though what was she thinking going down a secret tunnel!).

The last ep did feel like a bit of a sudden shift, changing from Scotland to London. Like it did make sense the Zygons would attack there but it did feel like a bit of a leap. And the attacks on the oil rigs being just a ‘test’ felt odd too. (Though I did love the doctor’s comment on us relying on oil which still resonates now sadly).

But ye as you can tell birthday was pretty much a nerdy day which was good.

Today I’m hoping to do comic reading as well as Fortnite and Pokémon, then bake off.

The rest of the week is gonna be fairly lazy, with mornings doing uni stuff, afternoons on Pokémon and nights being watching stuff. (Apart from Saturday which has Naryu’s follow up appointment.) I am still hoping to see Black Phone 2, either tomorrow or Thursday, though it might just be it (instead of it/Paranorman Thursday) cause of eyes being achy.

Next week should be Shelby Oaks! The cinema finally added it to coming soon but there’s only one showing Friday thus far. However they also added two preview showings so I’m considering seeing it and Frankenstein the same day. I’m hoping my glasses are sorted that day.
shadowhive: (5SOS Micheal Red)
Past days have been uneventul mostly. I have started organising dungeons and dragons adventurer. I’ve got the first 46 issues in the folders (yes I should have done them as they came shush) and I’m annoyed that two sets of four of them are awol. I dunno if I should continue organising or just hunt them first.

Yesterday mum sprung on me she wanted to go to Home Bargains so off we went. Thankfully there was a lot of Halloween stuff there! It had a full aisle plus stuff by the door and a few end of aisle stuff too. I got soft sweet, banners and crafting stuff, plus two cute ghosts. There was one I didn’t get that was holding a pumpkin basket but the way the handle was painted I just made it look like it had a comically sad face. (Which you don’t really want, it’s their time!) I also looked in game, got a cheap Thrawn Funko and saw they had dective Pikachu for £20. I didn’t get it but may go back for it.

When I got back Awsten’s book was waiting for me. I was too tired to look through it but I checked what his doodle was (a face with starry eyes)

Also yesterday was also a new 5 Seconds Of Summer song called Not Okay! I really love it, the best is really catchy but it’s not what I expected at all. It sounds so different (and I assumed from the title it might be sad but it’s not). Also ahh the uk store for the album says there’s gonna be a uk tour next year?? I missed out when they last did one so I’m definitely going this time.

Gaming wise, been on Silksong and I feel I’ve made progress (after feeling a bit directionless). I just unlocked the drifter cloak which I feel is gonna be so incredibly useful.

Also Hades II came out today! After debating getting it on release I did decide to. I’ve done 4 runs so far and ahhh I love that there’s a pettable frog and dog! It’s gonna take some getting used to with all the new currencies (and remembering what is for what) but hopefully I’ll figure it out. Also when I died I met Moros he looks so hot👀

Last night was the Alien Earth finale and, despite tiredness, ended up watching. I’m glad I did though it did feel a bit unsatisfying. Mostly that’s because it was a season finale but none of the main things got resolved. Thankfully the characters I like lived and we finally got to see the plant pod thing do something, which I’d been waiting for since I saw it. But ugh this one really made me hate Wendy/Marcy. Like I can tell were supposed to sympathise with her and to an extent I do, but she’s too happy to let people die.

Overall it was a good ep but it didn’t feel like a season finale. Considering how bad streaming things are with cancelling shows after 1 season it felt bad to leave so much unresolved. Hopefully a season 2 is coming cause I do wanna know but…

And also streaming annoyance I was looking the other day on Netflix to watch Star Trek Prodigy and season 1 is just… gone. Bah. And then I saw a preview for Dead Boy Detectives so I’m now intruiged about that but I also know it got screwed so do I wanna get invested?

***

And now for the cinema plans portion of the post.

I had intended on going on Monday, at least to the mystery film but that plans changed. The mystery film is now labelled as a general one, not horror like the others so the only label it has is that it’s 15. Trouble is there’s a bunch of 15 rated things coming that I’ve seen trailers for and wouldn’t want to see which wouldn’t be so bad if I could see another one before it, but because I have an annoying call after 2 that makes things tricky. So I might just not do it. (Especially as the odeon secret showing was for one of those films and the light seems to follow them)

I’m still planning on going next Thursday for Curse Of Frankenstein. It’s had an additional showing added so now there’s a morning and late afternoon one. I should be able to see something else for either one but the trouble is jigsawing what to see. The morning showing is 10:20 (so it’s the second film of the day) and the afternoon one is 5:30.

The trouble is that the morning one feels too early and the afternoon one clashes with some other options. There’s two early afternoon options The Roses and The Conjuring Last Rites, but I’ve still not seen Conjuring 2 and Conjuring 3 isn’t on streaming. (Other possibilities are Demon Slayer [which I’ve never seen and so would be lost], The Lost Bus [which I know nothing about] and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey [which I feel could be good or sad]) annoyingly I did considering giving The Long Walk a try before the listings went live but it has one time: just before the afternoon showing starts.

I should also still be going to the mystery film on the 6th which IS labelled as a horror. I should be able to see Him before it too, which I am curious about though it does seem to have a mixed reception.

It is odd the cinema doesn’t even have Black Phone 2 on its coming soon page despite them clearly getting it. (Plus no sign of Frankenstein either and I keep checking.)

Anyways, gonna watch Taskmaster now, then Hell Motel and hopefully poke my brain.
shadowhive: (Sherma Singing)
Yesterday I started watching season 2 of Wednesday with the first ep. It’s obviously a lot of setup, with Wednesday’s first day back at Never ore, dealing with hero worship and, of course, being annoyed by it. There’s also two mysteries already: an investigator that got pecked to death by ravens and Wednesday has a stalker. Are they connected? I guess we’ll see.

Xavier has been put on a bus which is a shame but at least had an in universe explanation that makes sense. Pugley is also joining Nevermore this year and already he has what might be a sub plot of his own. I already don’t like or trust the new head and it feels I’m right not too. Also it looks like Morticia is gonna have a bigger roll to play this year (which explains the Lego set!). It remains to be seen if that’s good or not. (Personally I wasn’t sold on Catherine Zeta Jones as her in season 1.)

Then there was dnd which went well, though I had to be muted at the start cause Leia was jumping everywhere and I was worried she’d knock things over. But it was also a mix of sad, sweet and ominous.

I started Borderlands 4 and did the opening quest though ran into trouble cause of a glitch. Thankfully exiting and restarting solved it though I am so pissed how it ended. (Why'd the hot guy have to die😭)

Then last night there was a nature documentary. I love nature stuff, even though Naryu tends to bark at the animals and get worked up, but I especially love stuff to do with the sea. This one was about a deep sea expedition to find coelacanth.

Now the coelacanth is famously known as a living fossil. It was around when the dinosaurs were and was believed extinct long ago… until one was found fished up. (Though if I remember right indigenous people already were aware of them.) Ones have been found fished up and washed ashore since but until now they weren’t seen. Luckily the expedition was successful! It found one hiding between rocks and they watched her for 30+ hours to see what she’d do.

And she spent that time just staying in the same spot, which is relatable. Eventually she went for a swim and joined a bunch of other coelacanth just chilling out in a lil cave. It was honestly so incredible to see them and you can even tell them apart by their markings. There really is something so strangely endearing about them too.

In the night I watched Alien Earth. I’m an ep behind so this one was The Fly. There was A Lot of poor communication going on throughout the whole thing (as well as bad decisions!), though I can’t help but wonder if at least some was intentional. Also Boy Kavalier shown off his feet again(If the alien universe has a wiki feet his must go crazy) and he proved that, while he appears dismissive he isn’t an idiot. (Though it does seem his head of security might be undermining him as well as Yutani plotting)

Today’s been an ok day, though tiring cause of taking Naryu for a longer walk. But! There’s finally a trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu! There’s also a description, but it’s so vague it could mean anything. It’s so cool seeing a u-wing and lil Grogu being cute and Sigourney Weaver.

There’s also more MCR dates been announced, though there’s not one in Birmingham (there’s more for London, plus Liverpool and Glasgow). I’m kinda glad for that though, it’ll be a feeding frenzy and I’m not prepared for that at all. But good luck if you’re gonna try!
shadowhive: (Farnsworth The box!)
My fear was right about student finance, it hadn’t gone through when I did my application like I expected. I did a text chat with someone Tuesday to make sure and then filled in the online form. Hopefully it’s right and should be sorted but… Ugh. I’m not gonna dwell on it. And at least I know now as opposed to what happened a few years back (where, just after Christmas break, I got hit that it hadn’t been processed asnd so was screwed)

Yesterday was the funeral of mum’s friend’s great aunt. I’d only met her a few times but she seemed nice and she was 101 years old which is insane. The service was nice enough but of course these things are always gonna be sad. And, for me it bought things back cause it was the same place my grandparents had their funerals. I dunno if it bought the same things up for mum cause we haven’t talked about it but…

Anyway into better things than those two issues.

Two shows came back to Disney+ this week, High Potential and Futurama. High Potential is being released weekly though damn I wish the opener wasn’t cause it ended on a cliffhanger. I wonder if the game maker plot line will be resolved next week or if he’ll come back later on. Either way it’s good to have Morgan back cause she’s amazing (and I love that tv guides have it listed as a highlight).

Futurama is instantly funny, but unlikely High Potential an entire season got put up. So far I’ve seen the first three and I did enjoy them, though the third did feel like the weakest. The relationship conflict between Fry and Leela just felt so forced, especially when Fry had gone to all that thought for the anniversary thing.

I still need to watch last weeks Alien Earth ep (and this weeks) and the new Lego Star Wars thing is tomorrow which looks fun.

Gaming wise I’ve not started Borderlands 4 cause I’ve not felt up to doing much at night again (ugh) but I did manage to find Pokémon Violet to get the mystery gift Pokémon. I also did all the post game gym rewatches which were fun, especially with the grass gym leader having a grass Tera type sudowoodo. Though ughhh I hate that my trainer name on there is Wilbur so much for obvious reasons.

I did start Silksong tonight too and I beat the first boss without dying (yipee!) and met Shermawho is so cute with his lil song. It looks and sounds so pretty, though I fully expect to lose my mind. I just got to the flea caravan and that’ll be where I’ll end it today

Focus has been off still writing wise. There’s a want to write but I dunno the words just don’t wanna come for some reason. It’s so irritating.

I do sometimes do a fic wants post but I might just edit the last one instead of making a new one.most likely it’ll just be adding 5 Seconds Of Summer and Anthony from Dark Divine.

Saturday is gonna be the first of many cinema trips. If I wasn’t gonna do that I might have done something tomorrow (the cinema has Galaxy Quest but only for one day, and I found out Armor For Sleep is in Birmingham but I’ve not listened to them for ages).

The rough cinema trips are:
20th: Thunderbirds (+ something else, most likely bad Guys 2)
29th: Mystery film (+ something else but ??)
2nd: Curse Of Frankenstein (+ something else)
6th: Mystery film (+ something else)

I suspect the mystery films are Him and The Black Phone 2 respectively, though the second might be something else. The other things I’ll see will depend on what’s on those days. (And if I’m wrong about the mystery films I do still wanna see them.) I might see something on the 17th or 18th but we’ll see.

I found out that the Doctor Who boxset is coming out on my birthday, so the daytime will be Pokémon and the night will be that. Which is great cause the first ep is Terror Of The Zygons which feels fitting.

I’ve seen this reading meme so I end the post in this.

What have you recently finished?

Clown In A Cornfield which I did think was really great! It has made me wanna get the second book though I’ve not had luck finding it yet. I’m gonna be on the lookout for the blu ray too, though that’s out of stock in some places too and we don’t have the cool steelbook.

What are you currently reading?

Currently nothing, it’s been dark due to storms and my heads not been the best. Technically I’m still reading Flight Of Icarus. I read the first chapters then got sidetracked and haven’t been back yet.

What are you reading next?

I should read my next read Christie book, but it’ll probably be I Want that Twink Obliterated or Shredded (another book of short stories) for spooky season. Or Halloween Party which isn’t one of the read Christie books but I have had the pretty one siting around for Halloween.

Past days have, again, been love energy.i was surprisingly tired after the trip Monday and then Wednesday I went to pick up mum’s meds. This proved tiring as I picked up potatoes for her which ended up being so heavy it drained me.

I did go in tk and, alas, it had none of the cute ghost things I saw before. I was hoping to get one but they seem to have gone already. Sadly I doubt I’ll be back to check if they get restocked. I had also hoped to get a Lego set from Argos, the Animal Crossing Dodo airlines, but alas it wasn’t there.

On the plus side I got the first issue of Disney paint by numbers, cause it was 99p so I might start that one time (though I wish it wasn’t Bambi, Bambi’s cute but not one of the things I like much… in fact I’ve not seen it in ages). Also I did get a Lego animal crossing set from sainsburys, Leif’s caravan which was even chreaper than expected when I got to the till. It’s a nice lil set, despite the ‘garden shop’ being too small. I posted thoughts/pics of it (and Goldie’s cozy house) on insta.

The horror film festival has got info on the films posted, however I only skimmed through and there’s an error (the same synopsis is used twice). It’s mostly two blocks of short films then a full length one so I’ll look properly when that’s sorted and debate going then.

There’s been deliveries too, of some comics I got (a random bunch, some which are spooky/horror coded and some that included two Star Wars ones, a random variant and Solo issue 1). Today there was the new Doctor Who magazine, along with dice sets I backed on kickstarted. They’re nice (especially the crystal like one) and the metal d20’s in them are pretty. Plus the one that was a random bunch of dice has a cute d4 with a lil shell in.

Today was the Nintendo direct, which was an hour long. The first 20 minutes (give or take) was Mario focussed cause of the anniversary. Oddly there’s not a new mainly Mario game, or dlc for Mario kart. Instead Mario wonder is getting a switch 2 update/dlc next year, Mario Galaxy 1+2 is coming next month, the new Mario film is confirmed for next year as Super Mario Galaxy and there’s a Mario Tennnis game coming out (which has an adventure mode??). There’s also Mario galaxy amiibo which look nice and a talking flower from Mario wonder which looks cute.

While there wasn’t a Mario game, there was a Yoshi one which looked very cute called Yoshi and mysterious book which I did love the look of.

Then there was the rest of the direct. A big theme of it was ‘spring 2026’ which felt like the release date for… so many things. Highlights/things that caught my interest:

*Hades 2 has a date! It’s coming 25th of September, for both versions of the switch
*Hyrule Warriors has a release for November 6th and there’s a cute korok playable character
*Tomodachi life is coming out spring, it looks nice
*Pokemon ZA has new mega evolutions for other starter Pokémon, which is a surprise. It’s also getting dlc which feels premature to add
*Donkey Kong Bananza also has dlc, releasing today! It looks fun but feels wild to have some already
*the direct ended on Fire Emblem which looked cool but felt like a strange choice.

I’m sure I missed others that I was curious about.

However! I think my highlight, or at least new game highlight, was Pokémon Pokopia. It felt extremely animal crossing coded, with the player character being a ditto and making homes for Pokémon. It looks so incredibly cute and I’m hyped for it.

Also switch 2 is getting the brand new Resident Evil game which felt like such a shock.

But overall pretty good direct and I am hyped for all of those things.

I’m still not decided on going to town tomorrow. I might, but it depends on my energy and, more importantly, if it’s raining.

Now though I’m gonna flop, then watch the proms tonight and maybe game/fic/watch something. No doubt though I’ll just zone out.

As I mentioned in the round up post, it’s September already. How did that happen?

The first week has been all over the place, not helped by my mood and energy pretty much collapsing on Wednesday. And not helped by mum deciding the follow morning that the chest of drawers she said we should get the following Sunday (from someone moving house and getting rid of stuff) should be moved. Which included moving another set of drawers and then moving the new one upstairs which was, of course, exhausting.

Midna has also been intent on staying on me whenever she can. She sits in my spot when I come down too which is sweet. However her being on me can be a problem, cause I never wanna disturb her so it’s been a few late nights as I don’t wanna move. (Plus she shifts from my lap to my chest to be closer which makes me wonder if she can sense my mood.)

Also there has been bad storms which might have contributed .

But other then my energy, mood and creative vibes still being annoyingly lacking…

When I saw Weapons I got mum drinking chocolate and a few nights ago she called me from the kitchen cause there was something in the container. Sure enough there was and it looks like it’s a tea bag (it’s the right size and shape). I’ve no idea how it got there, it’s clearly not mum accidentally putting one in (it was completely covered). I contacted Tesco and apparently I should take it into the store and they can sort it so that’s the plan this week, hopefully tomorrow. Apparently stuff like this is called a UFB - unidentified foreign body, which I didn’t know.

Friday night I finished Donkey Kong Bananza and it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the game and the npcs are fun and cute (I love the fractones so much). I knew I was close to the end a few days ago but it was so funny cause there were no less than three boss battles that I thought was the last one. Anyone that’s played Zelda will know the vibe: they introduce a new villain for the game and then bam! Ganon appears out of nowhere. Yeah Donkey Kong Bananza did that. There is some post game stuff, so I might do some of that at some point, but even if I don’t it was a lot of fun. If you are getting a switch 2 (or already have one) I definitely suggest picking it up.

Also gaming wise it was Hollow Knight Silksong’s release this week and while I’ve not got it myself (it is on game pass but do I wanna play it there considering I’m having text reading issues which Xbox stuff?) it was funny seeing every single game store crash. Steam, PlayStation, xbox and Nintendo shops all went down and it was so funny. Has any game ever done all of that? If nothing else the devs should be proud of that.

(I have watched people play it though, though my brain did tune out)

Last night was the Star Wars proms which I had been looking forward to. It was Star Wars and The Planets, and I was surprised that The Planets wasn’t first. (Though so many of the vibes of it made me think of alien funnily enough). The Star Wars stuff was well performed, especially cause they were the youth orchestra too so they were all teens (which is honestly impressive and it was sweet at the end seeing their reactions). The choices were so odd though. It started with the main theme and across the stars, but then everything else was sequel stuff. (I think the oddest choice of all was something from Episode IX, Psalm Of The Sith.) which on one hand makes sense but on the other they didn’t even play Rey’s theme? And it honestly felt so bizarre seeing a Star Wars concert and they didn’t play either Duel Of The Fates or the Imperial March.

Later in the night I watched the new Alien Earth which I’d meant to for days but due to aforementioned energy and tiredness I didn’t. This one essentially a prequel to the rest of the series, showing what happened on the doomed ship that crashed in the first ep. Turned out it was pretty much fucked. There was a saboteur (which led to a xenomorph prowling about) but even without that they would have been doomed. There was a nice twist that had me pretty much yelling and I liked that the whole thing played with expectations. Honestly the whole thing could’ve have easily been made into a film itself.

Though again it raises more questions. Where they got these nightmare things from is still a mystery and the plant pod things are still the most mysterious of the specimens. (I’m so intruiged to see what they’re like and can do. It’s clear they can move cause when the crashed ship was explored one was just chilling on a corridor ceiling far from where they were kept)

Today’s plan is Wednesday (I might finish season 1 today), Dungeons and dodongos, proms and then I might watch something. Also wanna fic (it might be finishing something off if I do but who knows with my brain being so bleh creatively).

Tomorrow as mentioned is the town trip, unless the storm returns. I might see Honey Don’t and Jaws, but we’ll see.
shadowhive: (Geoff/Seapeekay !!!)
So I was intending to do the fic meme post but I’ve not had the focus to finish it alas (not helped by being low energy, then being thrown off today by mum’s bitchiness and a scam phone call again). As such I’ve not done as much these past days as I hoped (I’ve not even watched the new Alien Earth yet).

But this is a good thing post so I’m not gonna dwell on that nonsense.

First as hoped the Waterparks set got added to iplayer, yay! It was pretty good and I am jealous of the people that saw them Monday. Both because it was in the Underworld (a tiny venue, that I went there once to MCR) though I had heard it was utter chaos cause pretty much everyone was vip. They also had the metalcore hoodie as merch which is a want! I’m so annoyed cause I saw it on Vinted the other day and it was in my size but I missed it cause it went so quick.

(And speaking of missing out Micheal Clifford did a thrift store thing with merch but I completely missed out due to the timings, damnit!)

But back to parx! Seapeekay was lucky enough to go to both gigs (damnit!)o there’s a new Geoffpeekay pic! Yipee! If there’s one of him with Otto or Awsten he hasn’t posted them yet. But ahh!

Then my twitter for you page actually did something useful. It shown 5 Seconds Of Summer dressed as Star Wars characters. Luke is obviously Luke, Calum is Chewie, Micheal is Han and Ashton is Leia *(and he is REALLY pulling the look off). I saw the first pic first then looked and found the second.

So I thought, oh cool, they dressed up to go to The Force Awakens premiere, that’s fun. And then I saw a clip which led me to this. And you see that first pic? They’re not just sitting there being interviewed, across from them are the actual actors from The Force Awakens. How this happened I have NO idea, but I love Harrison Ford’s reaction to Micheal’s first question. It’s so funny too seeing how everyone is being so vague, cause obviously no one knew anything back then.

But still, crazy.

Yesterday was The Thursday Murder Club which we watched and it was good. I’d not read the book but I certainly found it entertaining (and yay llamas!) and I hope they adapt the other books cause the actors all work well together and o wanna see more of them.

Today there’s a network test for the new sonic racing game so I just went on it. I did a Grand Prix and it’s pretty much what you expect from a racing game. However it has some fun things. The second lap of each race is a completely different level (chosen by the person in first, between a specific or random course) which adds a level of randomness. Then the final race of the Grand Prix is one lap on each of the 3 previous courses. There’s also a racer who is chosen as a rival, so you have to beat them as a fun thing.

Obviously I went with Shadow and managed to come in first somehow (only just and I didn’t expect to!)

I might go back on it to try other things later.

And speaking of Shadow he’s the two Shadow’s I got Tuesday(I really need to watch sonic prime.

Plans for the weekend
*Watch Alien Earth
*Watch the final Cabinet Of Curiosities
*Go on Two Point museum (for the summer event and Dredge collab!)
*fic (if I don’t get distracted)
*Some more Wednesday
*Maybe do the fic meme

I end with an eepy sleepy

Past few days have been, predictably low energy but it was even more so cause of Thursday.

Mum had ordered something from Sainsburys so off we went to get it… and of course came back with a bunch of other stuff, some of which (dog food) weighed heavy. I did get some things though, Argos had a Funko darth mail on his speeder on clearance and sainsburys itself had one of the new Lego fortnite sets on sale (with the cute lil llama!). I said I’d get it if I saw it on sale so I did. They also had some animal crossing ones (the set wi5 Leif and the able sisters, as well as Celeste’s one) but I had Celeste’s and wasn’t sure on the others.

When I got back I had noms, built the set and then just… flipped in bed where I ended up zoning out completely.

That night was good in the sense that I watched the next Alien Earth and the eps title (metamorphosis) really felt like it was leading in a direction that it didn’t go. Something that happened midway through was also surprising, so I’m really not sure what’s going to happen next. Which is exciting! I am kinda hoping that Boy Kavalier makes it through the series, though I sense he won’t.

I’ve been doing odd runs of Blue Prince lately to mixed success. Yesterday I had one that made me kick myself. I got the vault but dead ended myself so called it a day… as soon as I did I mentally screamed cause I had the shrine! I could’ve used the 40+ coins I had on it but instead wasted them ugh.

Tonight I felt I had a bad run too.i got the secret garden key but blocked off the east entrance it opens. I used the key anyway and the next room I drafted was the workshop with a battery pack. I was pretty happy cause that meant I could unlock the sealed passage outside, but it also meant I could unlock the west door with the garden.

Thankfully I got a room that opened the west entrance, so I could get and use the basement key, but I was also able to open the 46th door! Thankfully I had the steps to go back and I was able to get the end credits! Now I know that isn’t really the end of the game cause there’s loads of other puzzles (like the locked sanctum doors for one) but still finishing the main objective does feel pretty good.

I’ve been back to watching things and, other than the aforementioned Alien Earth there’s been Hell Motel, which was Blake centric so I knew he was doomed. The ep made me really root for him, because he was right to tie the others up (for all he knows at least one of them is a killer but the audience knows there’s also two other killers too) but damn the flashbacks of him… hopefully we can finish the series the next few days cause there’s two eps left!

Last night I finally went back to Cabinet Of Curiosities. I’d watched the first four.originally so this was ep five Pickman’s Model. As I said to [personal profile] fleshdoll last night it gave the vibe of A Ghost Story For Christmas (which are half hourish adaptions of spooky short stories the bbc do for christmas Eve night) which was further confirmed by the episode being an adaption of a short story (a Lovecraft one, which I sensed by the place names).

It was pretty well done, and had the guy that played Prince Caspian from the narnia movies as the main guy and the payoff of those last scenes was really good. Overall it was solid so I’m looking forward to seeing the others. (I might put one on tonight)

Also last night was the BMTH Reading set. I’d not listened to them properly for awhile (bar an odd few songs) but it was a pretty good set. The staging was really well done (I’ve not idea what the cgi characters are about but I’m curious) and it always takes me out when Oli speaks. But you could also tell how emotional he was about playing on a big stage which was sweet. Also based of them to have Palestinian flags being waved on stage during the final song.

(I’m hoping Waterparks set gets added to iplayer but the uploading is spotty. The livestream did have ten minutes of their set, but of course that was when DND was. Hopefully the full set will be up tonight which would be better than watching just three songs)

Today’s been Wednesday, which was an ep that did solve one mystery h why the sheriff thought Gomez was a killer) and I’m glad that the bee boy is alive (and has two mums!)

There’s not many plans for next week. I hope I do have the focus for reading Clown In A Cornfield, as well as writing. I am still planning on going to the cinema Tuesday, hopefully for Freakier Friday and the mystery horror film. (In theory I could watch a third thing but that might be too much).

I have also been noting down the things I wanna do in spooky season/october, which I might post after some more thoughts/additions.
shadowhive: (5SOS Luke Restrained)
I was looking at the cinema times for October, mostly to see if they have Frankenstein up (they don’t) and they are showing a bunch of spooky films on rewind. So far there’s Curse Of Frankenstein, Donnie Darko, The Exorcist, A Nightmare On Elm Street, It Follows, Halloween, Scream and The Thing.

What’s strange is that Halloween isn’t being shown… on Halloween. Instead it’s being shown on the 24th which feels like an odd choice.

But I’ve only seen 3 of those (Donnie Darko, Halloween and Scream) do people rec the others? (It Follows is a no go though due to timing)

(And speaking of the cinema it keeps more K-Pop Demon a Hunter showings. I’m sure it only had one per day originally, then went to four and now it’s at 8. I just wish they weren’t all sing alongs.)

Today I did a comics order, cause I’m not going to Birmingham any time soon I decided it was for the best. I was gonna order from forbidden planet but it would’ve been £5 postage for two issues so instead I just did an order on eBay. So I’ve got the next two Exquisite Corpses, The Umbrella Academy and Event Horizon Dark Descent.

That last one was a surprise for me cause I had NO an idea it even existed until I saw an article today. It’s a prequel to the film and I’m so hyped and I was planning on watching the film for spooky season anyway so this gave me more incentive.

Because Seapeekay has been playing Blue prince I’ve ended up going back on it and I’ve made some progress. I have all the blue flames light, I finally got to the antechamber (though not with enough steps to use the key😭) and I did the chess puzzle. I feel I could get to room 46 soon though I also sense there’ll be more puzzles.

I have to admit I am using guides a bit, but that’s mostly because I can’t actually read the text clues half the time. (I even struggle seeing the text on room upgrades) Makes me wish I was playing it on the switch (is it on switch??) but I guess it’s a sign my eyes are getting worse. Or that it needs an option to increase text sizes (but I guess they won’t cause of the magnifying glass)

But the past two days (other than seeing Weapons) has been low energy. I think I’ve been drained from the weather, the argument with mum and just being so bleh in general. Last night I ended up just laying in the dark with the Pokémon stream on and I just… zoned out and drifted off. It’s so annoying especially that it’s been so frequent lately. Meh.

Mail came today and it was a mix of eh (a clearly scam letter) and yay (the adorn magazine I ordered with Luke Hemmings). Luke looks so pretty in it and I wish I had the focus to read but alas I don’t.

That’s another annoyance mostly cause I wanna read Clown In A Cornfield but just don’t seem to have the focus for it. Bleh.

But also yay the Black a series Night Trooper I ordered came yesterday which looks cool, though I didn’t get a chance to look at it cause food shop.

Tomorrow it’s heading out to pick up something mum ordered and then who knows.

Next few days I hope I have the focus to read (if not Clown at least Exquisite Corpses), I wanna get back to Hell Motel and there’s Reading And Leeds showings. There’s only two actual shows (Chappell Roan and Bring Me The Horizon) so I hope iplayer gets the full Waterparks set. Walsall pride is this weekend but I don’t feel up to it, between general mood and not feeling peoplely.

As for tonight I was hoping to watch the new Alien Earth, but the future games show ran longer than I expected so I’m less sure about that.
shadowhive: (Yord Shirtless)
Last few days have been a bit strange, with days being ok and nights being… not. Like last night my focus and mood completely went and for no reason! It was so frustrating I was just lying here unable to do anything.

Bleh.

It doesn’t help that the threatened heat came back which I do not like,

I have been doing more on Donkey Kong Bananza though which is funny. I finished the Tempets Layer (which had the hardest boss so far), then did the landfill layer (with the cute eelings!) and then the racing layer. Those last two only had one layer (most have two sublayers) so they were pretty quick. Now I’m on the Radiance layer which has some cute lil snake guys. The npc designers have done an amazing job there’s so many cute lil guys in this and I love it.

There was also a library stint so I read the Fantastic 4 comic I had, which had Doctor Doom in the cover…. Which completed spoiled that he was in it. It definitely would’ve been best to have him as a surprise as he only turns up in the last pages. I also read more Clown In A Cornfield which gave me a lot of feels, even though I know it’ll be ok (ish) cause of seeing the film. (I did take it with me today but didn’t read any)

I have also started making a lil list of things I wanna watch for spooky season (which yeah it’s early but who cares) and it’s mostly stuff I’ve seen before. There’s only two things on there I’ve not seen and that’s cause they’re releasing that month. (VHS Halloween and Black Phone 2). Hopefully there’ll be more spooky films at the cinema I can add to the list.

Today we did end up going to Birmingham, despite it seeming we wouldn’t for these past days. Although we missed the first train it was a nice Tim.

The best bargain of the day was in Worlds Apart. Their insta said they had a sale but it was very vague and didn’t include pics so I wasn’t hopeful. Indeed there wasn’t too much but! They had The Acolyte Balck series figures and I got Mae, Osha, Master Sol and Master Indara. They had been reduced so much that the four of them was the same as a full price figure which is crazy. I’m taking it as another sign to watch The Acolyte again. (They also had my boy Yord but I already had him)

From TK I got the Stranger Things Tarot deck which has some nice art but it’s also so bizarre. It has its own suits which is fun but it’s also strange. Like why is Mrs Wheeler the Queen of scoops instead of Robin? Why have a suit that’s dice and yet not have Eddie as any of them (instead the king of dice is Victor Creel which shows it's not just made before season 4). I’m not sure if there is an Eddie card (I’ll have to check) but there is an Argyle one.

Anyway.

We went in Lego to look at the new stuff and there was some stuff on displace, but it was odd. Neither of the big Star Wars ones were. Though that’s probably for the best considering one is fragile as hell. They did have the STAP and Wicket though which look nice (and the AC sets were in the window so I couldn’t get as good a look as I hoped) I got the Wednesday Black Dahlia, which looks so nice and is actually a decent price.

I was hoping to get stuff from hmv and it was a partial sucess. I got the 5 Seconds Of Summer live album, plus The Black Phone and Section 31 film which was reduced a bit. Plus I got an album from the till by a group called Tomorrow X Together who I’ve never heard of, but I’m curious (and apparently it has a dvd too?).

The other forbidden Planet was also a partial success. I got the Exquisite Corpses issues but there was none of the Hyperspace stories with Kit Fisto (boo!) but I got some cheap books and Star Wars unlimited cards, and the Star Wars magazine with the Andor guide. (And a human torch Funko which looks cool cause he’s flame on!)

Then we went to see the new The Naked Gun. The trailers weren’t too special, though The Roses looks like it could be fun. The film overall was pretty fun, I mean it was pretty silly and it made me laugh a lot which was good. It did feel that the villains plan was perhaps a bit too evil for something like this? If that makes sense. Pamela Anderson’s Beth was so fun though, I do hope the rumour that her and Liam are together is true. Like I’m not one for celebrity gossip but I think they are pretty cute together and I hope they’re both happy.

Now I’m back home and flop. I built up the Black Dahlia and it looks nice (though damn the petal stickers😭) and I’m hoping to watch Alien Earth later if my focus is ok.

Plan next few days is to dumb stressful call (tomorrow), watch The Black Phone (tomorrow), watch more Wednesday (this weekend), watch Sonic 3 or Section 31 (Sunday), hopefully fic and then Monday go see Weapons (and maybe Freakier Friday, I’ll have to try and watch Freaky Friday before then though cause I’ve never seen it)
shadowhive: (Maxx Hoodie horns)
I’m sure I had another video I had in mind for Song Saturday as well as this one, but can I remember it? Nope.

But anyway here is Set It Off - Rotten. (Morning for flashing lights)

So Set It Off finally do another video! After having teases for prior ones that never came I felt Rotten would be the same. But they really ramped up the teasers for this one and I was kinda hyped, especially cause of the one blood.

Unfortunately this came out during the bad heatwave that made me sick so I watched it that first time in a daze. I had been meant to do a rewatch and kinda lost track. So figured song Saturday was a good excuse.

First the song itself. I like it, it’s heavier than their other stuff and i do like that (other than the bad egg voiceover at the end which feels random). I think on of my fav of the lines is about bodies rotting in the basement.

Onto the vid itself. The aforementioned flashing is a bit overdone (and probably didn’t help with the first watch. It’s a mix of the band performing in a space (feels like a garage or basement) with the lights flashing and then other scenes with the guys in hotel rooms.

The first shot of Maxx of him watching a screen has the vibe of him being hypnotised by it but… it doesn’t t go further than that for him whcih gahh it’s so frustrating. Zach’s goes a little further but again it’s too short. Of course Cody, being the singer gets the lions share (which yeah is standard singer gets most attention) but does feel frustrating especially since most of his is singing in front of a mirror until he spits out blood. Which yeah it’s a cool visual but I just wish it went further you know?

(I just wished Maxx did more than just stare at the screen and drum)

****

Other things now.

I kinda spent yesterday zoned out which was annoying. Maybe cause of being out Thursday but it felt my brain switched off a bit which was annoying.

There was a hasbro thing at comic con with figure announcements and I was hoping there’d be one of the two ones I hoped for (Qimir and ND-5) and ahhh! They’re finally releasing a Qimir! And ahhh he’s coming out this year! I’m so hyped I’m gonna get him as soon as preorders go up!

While there’s not an ND-5 figure there is gonna be a book featuring him out next year which is hype. I really need to get back to reading my Star Wars books though.

I have been on Donkey Kong Bananza some more and I did the forest layer, though now I have to go back to the freezer layer. It’s really odd though, of all the animals they could have chosen for the layer which is, as the name suggests, snow themed what animal do they go for? Zebra. That’s such an odd choice.

Also yay my MCC cards are finally on there way, yipee!

I’m hoping to post the fic on ao3 at some point today, if my focus is up to it. At least ao3 isn’t blocked by that stupid online safety nonsense.

But for now I’m gonna watch a random Murder She Wrote on tv before the Seapeekay stream. Though I just heard the other day there gonna be a reboot and Jamie Lee Curtis is gonna be Jessica Fletcher which… I’m not sure about.

As always I’m sure I’m forgetting something which will no doubt come to me later.

Sunshine-Revival-Carnival-2.png

Sunshine Revival time. I’ll go back to challenge 5 when my brain is better and not… whatever it has been these past days.

Challenge #6

Journaling prompt: What games do you play, if any? Are you a solo-gamer or do you view games as a social activity?
Creative prompt: Write a story/fic around the theme "game night".

Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

It’s been forever since I’ve played a board game, though I did get a few I backed on kickstarter that can be played alone so I might have to play one of them at some point, though the heat and my brain has defeated my intent to try them.

So mostly I play video games instead.

Daily I usually play these
*Magic Arena - which is the app version of Magic The Gathering which is pretty good and I have fun with, though some of the daily quests can be frustrating. (The current pass is Final Fantasy so if you’re into that there’s lots of stuff to do with it). I just wish it had more deck slots
*Marvel Snap - another app card game this with Marvel which is fun and has nice art, though again deck slots are an issue. Currently there’s a Fantastic Four pass for it, and I just got the new Human Torch based on the new film
*Fortnite - which I go on to do dailies and current am trying to finish the battle pass (again, superhero themed)
*A Little To The Left - this has a mode called a daily tidy where each day there’s a new puzzle. I’ve been doing them for over a year now even though I’ve not finished the actual main game’s puzzles

I’ve also done a few games lately, namely Star Wras Outlaws dlc, Still Wakes The Deep dlc and Dredge (and some of its dlc). (I’ve talked about all these recently, just check out the game thoughts tag)

However the main thing I’ve been playing the past few days is the new Donkey Kong Bananza game. So I figure I’d focus my response on that.

So when it got announced on the switch 2 trailer I was a little uncertain about it. Sure it looked really good but DK running around smashing things didn’t feel too interesting. The direct on it did convince me though so I decided to pick it up when it came out.

Honestly? It’s really fun. It’s bright and colourful and it does look really great. And the running around smashing things is actually really fun! You can dig underground and make tunnels, plus you can find fossils which you use on cosmetics. (Currently I have Donkey Kong with purple fur!)

The basic premise of the game is you’re going underground and each layer is a different ‘world’. (I dunno why each layer does have a sky despite being underground, mayeb that’ll get explained later I dunno). The first layer was a lagoon, the second hills and the third (which I’m currently on) is a canyon. Your goal is to keep going down, chasing after a bunch of bad guys before they get to the planet core (and whenever it gets mentioned I thought of Episode I).

I really like the games npcs, at first there’s monkeys in scavenger outfits, but there’s also cute lil eel things and fractones which are these strange rock people. There’s also some fractones that are like giraffes which is fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what other npcs will be. (Because honestly a big thing for me and games like this is npcs)

Each layer so far has a main ‘goal’ but you can also run around hunting for collectibles such as the aforementioned fossils and also banana gems. Plus there’s these short levels which are a bit like shrines from Zelda in that they are self contained things you do for bananas. (And at least one is styled after the old school side scrolling donkey Kong).

There’s a lot to do and I feel I’ve not even scratched the surface (I’ve no idea how many layers there are and I kinda don’t wanna look it up to find out).

If I have one criticism it’s. Cause of the direct itself. In the first trailer you’re shown to find a strnage talking stone that becomes your companion. It’s a cute thing that follows you around, but at the end of the first layer it’s revealed to actually be a person, Pauline. This is revealed in the direct and I kinda wish it wasn’t cause it would’ve made the reveal more impactful (but I scan understand why cause you couldn’t exactly show much of the game without it).

And damn I will rambled there. But yeah it’s a great game so far and I am really enjoying it. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next layer is gonna be cause it feels like I’ll be close soon. (Though that might be tomorrow)

I leave with a lil eel guy

As you can guess from the title, the heat has resumed. Which… ugh. I am not liking it one bit. Just yesterday the same issues returned (tiredness, achy eyes, sadness creeping in) which ugh. I’m not a fan of and I want it to go away.

However today the Lego U-Wing did arrive so I spent the morning doing that. It was a nice distraction, as Lego often is and when built it does look nice. The wings fold back nicely (which obviously is the main thing it should do) and the lil windows in the doors are actual windows. The downside is the cargo hold is a bit cramped and there’s no way of keeping K-2 in place so he does rattle around. But otherwise it’s pretty good (though it is funny it includes Dedra who gets nowhere near it).

Yesterday I started Clown In A Cornfield and I’ve read the prologue and two chapters (I’d have read more but heat). The prologue is obviously different than the film’s one. I did like the films one (albeit not liking that it was so far in advance of the story) but I think it’s good to have actually seen what happened to Cole’s sister (as opposed to being told it). I wonder if there was a reason that they didn’t show it (though I’d understand why it does sound like it’d be a health and safety nightmare).

I did got back on Still Wakes The Deep the other night and, sure enough, a monster did appear albeit only one this time. I did finish the dlc and it was pretty good but of course it was sad at the same time.

The other week mum ordered shoes from the Clark’s sale and, of course, they fit neither of us. (I was against getting them without trying them but she’s been badgering me about new ones for months.) so part of tomorrows trip is taking them back in store. But, of course she finds new shoes already and I’ve had to do them (from Amazon's prime sale and from tk maxx) and I’m not a fan of having to do that. I’d rather just get some in store cause then I could at least try them before buying but ugh. I’ve told her if these don’t fit it’s not gonna be discussed again and, thankfully, she agreed.

Tomorrow is gonna be a busy day going to take the aforementioned shoes back, checking in b and m (there’s a Lego flamingo cheap and also I saw there’s daleks for £1??) and a few other plays before seeing Jurassic World.

But part of me is thinking about getting that pass for the other cinema. Sure it’s a train ride away but the train is cheaper than the bus and it would mean I could do weekday showings instead of hoping for afternoon weekend ones. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons of the whole thing to decide. Maybe if I could double up on films each time I go (to save travel expenses) that would make it better easier but I dunno.

I guess it would mean I’d see more films (both cause I’d have more options and be more willing to see things I wouldn’t normally). Plus there is a mystery film there at the start of next month and I’m really curious what it could be (the only hint is it’s a horror film)

Has anyone had cinema passes before? Is it a thing that you’ve found worth doing?

Anyway I dunno what I’m gonna do the rest of the night. I guess it depends on how melty my brain gets.

But oh I did sort out uni yesterday finally. It’s still annoying my options were only 30 point things but whatever.

Challenge #3

Journaling prompt: What are your favorite summer-associated foods?
Creative prompt: Draw art of or make graphics of summer foods, or post your favorite summer recipes. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So when I saw this earlier I had a ponder, cause I was trying to think what I consider to be a ‘summer’ food. The one that came to mind was ice cream, but I wouldn’t say it’s a favourite. It’s more of a thing that’s nice to have, but I have to be in the right mindset.

The other thing that came to mind is tropical fruits so that’s what I’m going to mention.

My fav ones are mango, which is a fruit I often try and get when it’s on offer. I always like mango flavoured things too. Now I’ve mentioned it I’m wanting to get one, hopefully there’ll be one somewhere in town when I go.

There there’s pineapple, which, again, I love pineapple flavoured things (especially sweets) and I am one of those pineapple on pizza enjoyers. Again I’ve not had one for awhile and I should get one (and some to have on pizza).

I’m sure there’s another one I really like, but I guess it depends what’s considered tropical.

Hopefully I can be more active in reading other peoples entries this time as my brain has been very bleh these past days.

Gaming thoughts now.

On a whim/needing a distraction, I went on Star Wars Outlaws Sunday. It was my first time going in it since finishing the main game, so I decided to check out the dlc. (Though first the Naboo cosmetics are VERY pretty) I decided to start with Wild Card which was the first one.

I assumed, from the description that it would be sabacc centric (which is a card game in the game), especially since the setting was a tournament. However that amount to just three rounds of the game, which was fine for me but probably felt lacking for people hoping for more. As it was it was a kinda linear story, mostly set on a new location but then going to one of the game’s planets for the climax. Don’t get me wrong but it was very enjoyable and I did get swept along with it (i ended up finishing it in the day). I might go on the other dlc at some point.

Also ND-5, the droid character in the game is still hot.

On Monday night, while looking for a distraction, I started the Still Wakes The Deep dlc. Like Outlaws, Still Wakes The Deep was a fav game from last year so I was excited when they said dlc was coming. Unlike Outlaws it’s set after the main game with completely new people. Which makes sense as the first game ended with everyone dead and the rig sank. In true horror fashion no one knows what happened to the rig, so of course in the dlc we get people sent to find out what happened.

As such it’s set on the remains of the rig, which is now deep underwater and you’re tasked with exploring it to find out what happened. So far the main ‘threat’ isn’t from anything from the base game, it’s the rig itself. Being a wreck, and so deep underwater, it’s unstable. Scares coke from parts or it falling apart, from creaks in the rusted metal, but not the actual… whatever it was in the base game. But there’s also a sense of a sense, other than bodies there’s no sign of the thing from the base game and so, as a player, you expect there to be something there. I wonder if there is going to be, as I’ve played a decent chunk but not seen anything yet.

It’s prime day and this time it feels more disorganised. Usually there’s an option to search through things but this time there’s nothing which has made it hard to search through. I got Clown In A Cornfield (the book, as there’s no word on a uk release for the film) which I might start tomorrow. I had got a £15 off thing from downloading an app but it’s strange. It offered me to use it on the who ray preorder, but now iponly seems to let me use it on prime day stuff (I assumed it would go on the book but didn’t) so I’ve ended up using it on a u-wing cause that makes it half off (and Lego building eases my mind).

The plan for Saturday (as long as money goes in) is to see the new Jurassic World film but, ugh. I thought it would have a lunchtime showing (last week there was a 1pm showing) but now there’s only a 3:30 showing instead (and 6:30 but that’s too late). I blame Superman taking that slot since it’s out this week but it does make things tricky.

The plan was to do get some stuff after the showing from Morrisons and stuff, but cause of the timing it’ll be a rush to the last bus. II commented we could in theory go to town, go in those places, come back, drop the stuff off and go back but I wasn’t serious. Of course mum heard that and thought I was so it seems like that’ll be the plan which makes it a rush which… ugh.

Today I finished reading Cards On The Table. (Sunshine revival people, I have been doing the #readChristie2025 challenge, to read 12 Agatha Christie books this year, but I’ve slipped behind on it mostly due to health issues.) Still this one was pretty good and I did enjoy reading it. I would start the next one next, which is Crooked House, but Clown In A Cornfield arrived yesterday so I’m gonna read that I think.

I feel I had something else I was gonna mention but it’s gone.

So today there was a new Doctor Who announcement, with the new next collection boxset! I was hoping one would be due (cause fuck knows I needed something to restore my excitement with televised Who). I had a feeling the next one would be either season 21 or one of the two remaining fourth Doctor ones.

It was the latter, season 13.

Honestly season 13 is a pretty based season from what I recall, with lots of gothic horror type eps and, of course, the zygon ep (with THE Loch Ness monster!). Plus it has Sarah Jane!

So yeah I am pretty excited for that, even though it doesn’t have a release date. I’m sure that will change when the next Who magazine comes out, no doubt with a disc breakdown of the special features.

As I mentioned in the other posts I was close to finishing the Dredge base game. I didn’t realise just how close I was until I went on the other night and… it took me about ten minutes. So I could have finished it in the weekend after all. Sigh. I did end up doing the pale reach dlc and it was pretty good, I did the main pursuit so it’s mostly done (though there is apparently a hooded figure I missed so I’m glad I’d not warped back to the main area.

All that’s left now is a few odd pursuits and The Iron Rig.

Once that’s done I might go back to crypt custodian which I started while food was cooking in the weekend and damn it made me feel so bad for the poor kitty you play as.

Though ugh I’m so pissed off at xbox cause they have done masssive layoffs again. And for seemingly no reason other than greed. That just pisses me the fuck off.

I am thinking of picking up the voice of cards games on the switch, cause the whole collection is on sale and I had my eye on them for awhile (plus the sales on going for a few weeks).

And also, completely unrelated, but ahhh there’s new Waterparks being teased. They posted mysterious yellow things (leading people to call it pissparx or watersports) and then there was a presage link for… something. Again like Who there’s no date, other than a vague ‘soon’ and ‘sooner than you think’ whatever that means.

Speaking of Awsten Kerrang put up a zone with him and Micheal so I ordered that (and the Sleep Token one) though I’m so annoyed I missed the signed version (though Ithink it went absurdly fast). I’did make a typo in my email when I made the order so I’ve had to contact them and hopefully there’ll be no issues (cause there’s a digital version of Micheal’s album) but I’ve heard nothing back yet.

Other than that? The heat has diminished, though I’m still tired to varying degrees but at least I got back to reading earlier. (Though ugh mum’s friend is coming Saturday which…. I fear being annoyed)

Hoping to fic a bit now though while Murder Most Puzzling is on, then the Taskmaster Final on +1 and hopefully Hell Motel. I’m gonna look through other sunshine revival posts tomorrow but otherwise it’s a question mark.

The weather continues to be irritating. It’s so hard to focus or do much of, well, anything. Between lack of focus and being drained the last few days have been a bit eh. And it’s been really annoying cause, as mentioned before I can’t even do much at night cause my eyes or head aches which ugh.

And I can’t even listen to audio stuff half the time without losing my focus and having to pause and rewind.

Bleh it’s so annoying.

It feels it could be shifting cause there’s been rain but at the same time it doesn’t feel enough.

But anyway onto things the last few days.

Tuesday was the library stint where I started Cards On The Table (which seems pretty good so far) and I also read one of my comics, Exquisite Corpses. The premise is pretty intriguing, every four years an American town is cut off from the world and the 13 richest families send killers in there and the family withkiller that survives gets to rule for the next four years. Being a first ep it’s mostly introducing the concept, the killers and some people of the town (who are no doubt gonna have a terrible not good time caught in the crossfire). I am tempted to get the other issues, but I’ve got conflicting info about how long it’s gonna be so I need to find that out.

That night we watched Hell Motel on shudder which was pretty great so far. I dunno if anyone else is thinking of watching but you should! The first two eps were really good and I have no idea of where it’s gonna go. (Well other than more people are going die, but that’s a given)

Unfortunately that night was probably the night I did the most cause every other night was draining or achy cause of this damn heat. Bleh I did do Dredge some more in bits and pieces. I finished the third area, the one in the swamp, so I’ve got one area left of the main game (though I have the dlc stuff and started fixing the rig). I do wanna get the ship’s hull expanded before going and see if there’s side quest stuff to do first but we’ll see.

I got a mail saying there was £10 off a £40 shop at the co-op so after debating (cause of the heat and cause it’s at the co-op by the station) we decided to go Friday which probably was the best day to do it. Of course doing that was pretty tiring too but, well £10 off is £10 off.

After debating I did end up getting Civilization vii from cdkeys so I played two games and damn I forgot how long they could be. First game was as Hatshepsut and ended in a lose but I blame having two ai people near me who constantly picked fights with me at the same time. Second game was Harriet Tubman and that was more peaceful (two ai’s picked fights with each other and tried to get me involved but I was like nah) but it still ended up in a loss, though I was close to a scientific victory. I dunno when I’ll do another game cause it is a massive timesink.

Today we might watch Better Man (I picked it up for mum) and finish an ESO event thing (though ugh it seems the new season isn’t included in the eso+ for some irritating reason) and then maybe Saltburn tonight cause it’s on tv. Though I sense I’ll mostly flop and have no focus again.

But speaking of films I did use the Amazon credit I got on I Know What You Did Last Summer (cause most of the things I thought of weren’t there and the trailer for the new one made me wanna watch) so I’ll watch before the new one, whenever that is.

And also yay! James Marriott’s album is number 1!

The past few days have been, again, pretty low energy which is annoying. I blame the weather because it’s both warm and heavy which is a bad combination. We’ve meant to have a storm for the last few days and there has been dark clouds sometimes but they don’t last. I hope we get one sometime, just not today.

Cause the food shop messed up last week we had to go to home bargains on Friday which didn’t help, not least cause mum insisted on getting compost (at least it was by the door so we didn’t carry it around the whole store). But yeah, carrying a load of stuff back in the heat was not it.

I had been debating getting another game for the switch 2 when my money went in and I narrowed it down to Sonic x Shadow Generations and Civilization VII which are vastly different games. While we were down at Home Bargains I did pop in game to take a look at things but it’s so weird cause 80% of the stuff has no pricing and it just felt off. (I went in for the Final Fantasy MTG starter and they didn’t have that either)

I’m still undecided on one of those (and I know there’s another too but it’s gone out my head) but I did get another game instead. Seapeekay played Lost In Random - The Eternal Die and it looked pretty good, plus there was a 15% launch discount so I picked it up. It’s very much a similar style of Hades (you do runs beating enemies in hopes of getting stuff to upgrade and do other runs better) and I am really enjoying it. It does have the thing of ‘one more run’ so I do multiple ones in a row oops. I did manage to beat the first bosses yesterday but only just.

Speaking of gaming I finally started Dredge this weekend. It’s funny I’ve had it for months and only started now it’s on game pass. In a similar vein to Eternal Die it has a ‘one more day’ but it did take a bit of getting used to at the start. I’ve just got to the cliffs so I’m gonna explore round there when I’m next on. But I do love the lil boat and sailing round. The only issue is sometimes it’s tricky to read the text (especially when it’s purple) so I kinda wish I had it on the switch but that feels a small issue.

Yesterday was DND which was really fun and I’m so looking forward to the next sessions (cause there’s a reverse heist and acdemics cluelessly in love). But ugh I got hit by the curse again. Like why does my laptop decide to either mess around or demand an update right before a session? This time it decided that it was going to just stop detecting the internet which I knew was fine cause I was in my pad but ugh. I wish it would behave. (I am fine with joining the sessions on the pad it’s just the webcam in it makes it awkward)

I found out yesterday that Warped tour was doing a stream and I looked at the listings for it and the only band I had any possible interest in was Asking Alexandria. I checked the time and it was around 2am here and since I was still awake I decided to watch.

The thing is though, I had low expectations for it. I’d heard such bad things about the recent tour that my expectation was pretty much on the floor and yet I watched it anyway. It was better than I expected though only slightly. Danny was still wearing his absurd get up. Like I love an aesthetic where you can’t see a person’s face but it really doesn’t suit him at all and you can tell it’s not an aesthetic thing but only there for one reason: To hide him not singing. At times you can’t blatantly hear it’s a backing track (sometimes his mic is no where near his face!) whereas other times he is actually singing so the whole thing is very weird. I’m glad I didn’t pay to see them cause you can tell that they either need to get rid of him outright or just get someone (Paul) back to support him (and you have to wonder why they haven’t already). I mean they played one of my fav songs of theirs and it was just… not great which does suck.

Though it was funny seeing comments badmouthing him (and get deleted) before their set even started.

I also found out yesterday that there’s an adaption of The Seven Dials Mystery that has been filmed which sounds cool but I had to laugh cause I looked it up and who is playing Superintendant Battle? Martin Freeman. I dunno who I’d have pictured in the role but him? I’d not have thought that in a million years.

Today I’m off to Birmingham though I have woke with a funny tummy though I’m hoping that’s just nerves. Fingers crossed it settles some.
