shadowhive: (Lothcat Cute)
So the last few days have been eventful so it’s time, again, for a general post.

So on Sunday I started watching The Residence. I saw a trailer for it on twitter about a month or so ago and I was instantly intrigued. It’s a murder mystery and someone has gotten killed at a large house while a party is going on downstairs. Which yeah, sounds like dozens of other murder mysteries, except this is no ordinary large house: it’s the white house.

I watched the first two episodes and, so far, it’s really great so far! I love the detective as she’s so quirky and has absolutely no respect for any of the guys trying to tell her what to do (or what not to do). The cast is also wild as there’s been a lot of people I’ve recognised (The FBI agent from Ant Man and Wandavision, Tilly from Star Trek Discovery, Jane Curtain from 3rd Rock from the sun, one of the guys from OG Charmed, hughJackman and Kylie Minogue! Oh and the guy that plays Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian is in it too.) I really love it and wanna watch more cause I wanna know what happened!

The rest of Sunday was kinda low energy but I did end up starting a game pass game, Planet Of Lana. It came to gamepass last year and I wanted to play it cause it looks so pretty but alas I got sidetracked. It really is so pretty though and there’s a cute lil guy called Mui who is like a lil black cat thing. It’s pretty good so far, though some parts are tricky.

I found out on insta that there’s gonna be an indie horror short film thing at a cinema in Birmingham (here’s the list) and I’m kinda tempted to check it out even though I dunno exactly where the cinema is and it’s on a library day. We’ll see if I do it (they’re also doing full showings of Twin Peaks which is kinda cool but they’re on Sundays)

There wasn’t gonna be any plans Monday, but then when I was looking at the tv guide I saw there was a film I’d wanted to see for awhile on. It was The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes and I’d heard of it cause there’s a section at Loch Ness (which resulted in a prop being lost to the loch only to be found again a few years back). And honestly? It was a wild ride. It had Christopher Lee as Mycroft an opening story mostly unconnected to the rest (with Sherlock implying to someone that he was gay and Watson was his lover), a finale at Loch Ness and a closing scene that was so sad. (It’s on Sky Arts again Saturday afternoon.j I’m so glad I spottted the listing, though also so sad when I looked up later that there was intended to be more scenes to it but they got cut.

Since money, finally, turned up I decided to go to sainsburys this morning to look for eggs. As I posted on insta I did find some, in sainsburys and Aldi, but there really weren’t many options and it was mainly more expensive eggs left. M and S’s food also didn’t have anything which was a shame as I wanted to try some of their hot cross buns. I did get a lil Lego Yoshi and the new radio times from sainsburys though.

(Also Pets at home had the cutest lil Guinea pigs they were so adorable😭)

I did manage to get a Lindt eggfor mum though as thanks for all the issues, though the box could easily have been half the size it was. We also had dominos, which was good though I’m sure the price has gone up since we last had some.

Also today Elder Scrolls Oblivion has been remastered and was out today! It’s on game pass too so I might try it sometime but it’s 120GB thst means I have to figure out a way to make space (damn xbox and memory card things being so small)

Also today the local cinema put up the Episode III showing times and it looks like it’s only from Friday-Sunday which is a bit annoying. It’s also annoying it’s only one showing, 3:45 which means I can get there on bus, but have to walk back if I go. I’ll see what the weather is like, but I know Saturday is out cause of Doctor Who.

Anyway! I think that’s everything but I’m probably missing something super obvious.
shadowhive: (3rd Who's there?)
So after the post yesterday I did end up watching Inferno, to finish season 7 of Doctor Who (which I wanted to do before the new series started).

Inferno is the last ep of season 7 and its main story is about a drilling project that brings up a mysterious green goo. This ooze turns anyone that comes into contact with it into monsters called primords (though that name isn’t actually uttered) who attack others to kill and spread it. The lead scientist of the project wants to keep drilling regardless of the warnings before eventually being infected himself.

About halfway through a secondary story comes in. The doctor ends up in an alternate version of the earth where the project is further along so he sees what happens if the drilling isn’t stop (the end of the world!). But also this world is also populated by alternate versions of everyone. The Brigadier (here Brigade Leader), Liz, Benton and the guest cast are all part of a fascist regime. It’s basically like the Star Trek mirror universe (the Brigade Leader even has an eye patch!).

That second thread is an interesting concept because we often see situations where the doctor is like ‘you have to stop doing this thing because x bad thing will happen’ whereas here we get to actually see it. It’s an interesting concept but, much like the Silurian plague thread in the Silurians, feels like it’s there to bulk out the story. (Which, from the making of, is exactly what it was)

That being said it’s a pretty good ep, especially when the other universe side gets going. It’s clear everyone enjoyed getting a chance to play bad guys.as well as their usual selves. The guest cast also clearly had fun doing double duty too. It’s just a shame the primords are a bit… eh. Like at the start it’s just people that are green and then by the end they look more like werewolves. But others it’s pretty good, though like the rest it’s length is what makes it suffer

Overall though I think season 7 was a good season, but its main flaw lies in 3 of the 4 stories being 7 parts long. I think it’s especially noticeable how much of a problem the lengths are after Spearhead was 4 parts and was well told. Like if those other eps were just a little shorter there could have been a whole other 4 part story there.

(And it’s especially a shame there’s only one season with Liz and that he last ep doesn’t even have her leaving.)

I am wondering what the next boxset will be. Will it be one of the last two fourth Doctor ones or the last fifth Doctor one?

After that I watched something with mum though I wasn’t focussed on it, then I watched the special features on the Inferno disc (a making of and behind the sofa). I have disc switched to watch the Inferno second disc’s special features so might do that tonight depending on energy.

I’m hoping that my social battery and creative energy is gonna be better over the coming days (and energy in general).

Today I managed to watch Moana 2 on Disney+. I had been a bit worried cause if what people said, how it was meant to be a series and had been truncated down to a film. It isn’t quite as noticeable as I expected. There are a few scenes that you can tell would be ‘end of episode scenes’ and some of the new characters (Moana’s journey this time has a crew) clearly would behave got development if it was a show. But it was pretty good overall.

It does seem that there’s gonna be a follow up (some things don’t get resolved and there’s a sequel hook in the credits) so I just hope that the next one is just developed as a show or film instead of switching party way through.
shadowhive: (Techno Minecraft pig)
So yesterday I watched the rest of the switch 2 treehouse coverage and it was mostly nothing too special. I am sold on the Kirby game that’s getting an upgrade, it looks so pretty! And I’m a bit more interested in the Donkey Kong game now too. I missed the main part of the bravely default section (due to helping mum with spelling) but I it looked pretty good.

Last night I unfortunately ended up crashing a bit which was annoying. I hate my energy has been so trash lately.

Today mum’s friend came and that meant I had to go to town. My decisions were to use her ticket and either just pay money in, or get a few bits or I could get my own bus ticket to see a Minecraft movie since it was a decent time.

To be honest I was a bit indecisive about seeing it. The first trailer did look very… wtf and reviews seem to be mixed. But I was gonna be going to town anyway and, after how bad the recent weeks have been I decided to see it.

So what did I think? Thoughts under the cut (since it’s opening week).

After that I picked some stuff up from Morrisons then came home.

Now I’m gonna flop a bit, I might watch Inferno to finish Doctor Who season 7 off before the new series starts (next week!) and I’m hoping creative vibes might come back later too.
shadowhive: (Link/Sidon The Turning Tide)
My energy has still been a but drained after Monday, so I’ve not been doing much at nights like I’ve hoped, mostly cause my eyes were too achy to watch stuff/game. So the other night I ended up just listening to audios (catching up on Magnus Protocol and a Who audio. The later was Tales From The Vault which was a really good concept, set at a UNIT vault that holds various artefacts and including recordings from prior companions. It was a neat idea and feels a shame they didn’t expand on it to more follow ups.

Continuing the Nintendo switch 2 thoughts there was day 1 of a treehouse stream yesterday and I watched it so you don’t have to (it was 4+ hours!). I did end up flagging a bit cause of the length though. Mostly it was playing through sections of the various games (and both Mario Kart and Donkey Kong got 2 sections)

*Mario Kart - Looks really pretty and it does look like it’ll be really fun. Someone did the sums and there’s (assuming every page of characters has 12 characters) 84 playable characters which seems crazy. No word on if you have to unlock them (I guess that’ll be in the direct) though I’m assuming stuff like free roam will include that
*Donkey Kong - Again it looks really pretty and some of the mechanics do look clever. Im not fully sold on it cause it seems to be destroying things a lot. BUT there is a cute lil rock guy friend
*Metroid - Looks really great, the opening cutscene especially looks suitably epic. I’ve not really played Metroid before but I feel I’d be tempted
*Welcome Tour - It looks interesting and there some cute mini game things… but it really feels like something that should be included on the system for free. I don’t see anyone paying for this
*Drag X Drive - I love the concept and the controls are original, but I’m curious if there’s any form of customisation cause all the players looked the same. Also I feel this is one game where you’d need a demo to see if the control system works for you
*Zelda upgrades - They showed some of BOTW side by side with switch versions and you could see the difference, especially in loading times. They also went over some of the Zelda notes features and some do look cool, especially being able to share things you’ve made as well as items. The many draw will be the new voice acted memories, though I’m not fond of them being tied to an app instead of just being in game

Day 2’s stream has started now so I’ll either post later or maybe edit here (first is Mario party).

Last night I’did end up feeling up to watching a thing, which was Hostile Dimensions. It’s a new found footage film on shudder which just came on the uk version (I dunno if it’s elsewhere) and I’d not heard it before but the description was interesting.

Synopsis time: While filming in an abandoned building a pair of documentary filmmakers find a mysterious door. After one goes missing the footage is found online and two more documentary filmmakers decide to find what happened.

Thoughts under the cut.

All in all it feels like a solid little film, I’d probably give it a 7.5/10 (though I’m never good at rating things). Solid concept, pretty great execution. Would watch again.

Now I’m gonna watch treehouse some more, snuggle Midna and then… I dunno.
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
So it’s been a little while since the last post.

Sunday night I decided I wanted to watch something, so I watched the scant Ambassadors Of Death special features I decided to watch a film. I was gonna watch Gods Of The Deep, something I’d seen on Amazon prime a few months back, but alas it was gone in the intervening time.

So I decided to see what Longlegs was like but I managed only 12 minutes before deciding that, nope I wasn’t feeling it. I dunno why but I just didn’t vibe with it. Instead I watched but on Lore, which was an anthology film that just came out last year. It had four people telling ‘scary stories’ around a camp fire and the result was four wildly different stories. It was entertaining enough (especially since the first had a guy from Primeval and the third had Rufus Hound as a creep) but I loved how the tones between there were kinda wildly varied. The first two played more serious while the second two kinda went off the rails.

(For context they are: 1- a guy getting chased by criminals ends up in a warehouse, where a monster stalks them. 2- a mother and son move into a house and there’s a haunted music player. 3- a man is going to sleep with another woman but it turns into an occult ritual, 4- a midnight cinema screening turns into a slasher film)

Then I decided to watch. The first Video Nasty episode and it was… ok. Like it didn’t feel like how I thought it was going to go and I was ready to check out of it until the last scene had two people in plague Doctor outfits attacking someone. Like that concept I’m down for, but the rest felt a bit… eh. I might see what ep 2 is like and if it builds on that last scene it’ll be interesting but I’m not too hopefully.

Sunday ended up being… ugh. Around lunchtime one of my headaches started and it was pretty bad which was annoying cause it was a DND day so I was more checked out then I would be. Unfortunately the headaches lingered a few days, on and off but very annoying.

Monday and Tuesday were the last No Dice eps which were pretty good (and the immovable rod came in clutch again who would’ve thought it would be so useful?) though it’s so sad it’s the last one. I really hope they do more dnd cause they clearly all enjoy it (and Owen is a really great dm) It’s also a bit sad it ended on an inconclusive note too. Like there was a last scene right at the end where the party was given a choice and they split into two groups over it which made complete sense in character and resulted in a complete impasse. (They could undo the damage done by the big bad, but as a result they would lose all their memories as to what happened.) But like I said it made sense for everyone in character to have opposing views and not budging (plus it had overrun already so was quite late). I did start a little thing based on it so we’ll see if I feel it’s good enough to post.

Tuesday I ended up listening a Doctor Who audio which was Dead Media where the 12th doctor was hosting a podcast (obviously about an alien encounter). It was really fun and the guy who played the doctor was really great at it so I’d definitely recommend it for anyone it that likes 12.

The bulk of the Sumerian music order came that afternoon so now I have Paradise City to watch (so maybe I need to find American Satan but I can’t seem to find a release anywhere, anyone know where it can be found?) and I spend yesterday ripping all the cds, putting them on the pod thing so I could listen to them today. I have to admit I really enjoyed House On Fire’s art and the tarot style stickers with it. (And there’s the vinyls though I didn’t even get to see them before they were squirrelled away with the rest.)

(Also ugh the government seems run by such soulless pricks it pisses me off but I’m containing anger from here)

Today was a trip to pick mum’s meds up and ugh, of course it decided to go insanely warm. Like by the end of it sweat was dripping off me which, ugh. Thankfully mum’s meds were there (and Naryu’s flea/worming treatments) and I picked up a few things. Some cheap Lego sets, a copy of the odyssey, a Pokémon book and Star Wars art thing. But ugh it was so exhausting due to the heat.

Also there were so many cute lil Guinea pigs and I love them all so much.

When I got back the Doctor Who magazine came which I did read some of and the new episodes sound like they’ll be really great! Lux even has hand drawn animation so that’s fun! I am really puzzled that the Savages (which came today too) has a 90 minute making of. Most making of’s are between 20-45 minutes (and I think the most are an hour long) and I’m just puzzled how a first doctor episode (where, sadly, most people involved have passed) can be so long.

There was also a nintendo direct thing today which did have a few pretty fun looking games, but I feel the last reveal, a new Tomodatchi life after about 10 years, is gonna be the main focus. (And also with the switch 2 direct next week too it kinda felt that exciting things will be there)

Anyway now I’m gonna flop a bit cause I still feel so exhausted. Though I might go on Superliminal later, which I started last night and is a pretty intruiging puzzle game though it can be tricky.

I’m sure I missed something obvious I wanted to mention, which will come to mind later no doubt (or maybe not at all)
shadowhive: (Link/Sidon The Turning Tide)
Last night I ended up watching The Masked Singer final which was pretty good. Danny from Mcfly was the guest judge and he was pretty fun. Me and mum were right that dressed crab was Gregory Porter (she guessed him a few weeks back and I agreed). Continuing the music theme I watched a thing on bbc with music inspired by movies which was pretty good, I loved how utterly random it was. There was Madonna, Ella Fitzgerald, Lady Gaga, Bannanarama and a few others I wasn’t familiar with.

Speaking of music my recently played songs are Running Up That Hill (which I know I’m not alone with after that Stranger Things ep) and fields Of Elation which is a Sleep Token song from their first ep which I’d not heard until last week (which is here on Spotify). Fields Of Elation is just… I dunno, but you can just feel the despair in Vessel’s voice. I dunno what it says about me that I’ve been listening to it so much but it just makes me… feel.

On the other hand Running Up That Hill… I kinda was under the impression it was about exchanging places with someone that had died you know? And then I read something on tv tropes and then listened to the lyrics and it’s very much… not.

Anyway last night I kinda went drained and didn’t watch anything or game. Then this morning I woke up in a bad mood again which, ugh. I wish my brain wasn’t like this. It evened out a little over the sad, mostly morphing fro annoyance to the vague sadness that’s plagued the past days. Which ugh.

I did watch Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, which I picked up when we went to Birmingham a few weeks back. I’d wanted to get it after seeing Afterlife over Christmas so thoughts under the cut.

Today I also built a lil Lego set I got before I was sick. It’s a valentines set, with two lil hedgehogs and it’s pretty cute. The base of it and the mushroom are both shaped like hearts which is a cute feature.

Then I finally went back to Echoes Of Wisdom and I ended up doing the Holy Mount Lanayru temple. But man I felt so hard for poor Condè I hope his brother comes back (either as a side quest or in the end credits). I did like how the temple was a mix of hot and cold, that was pretty clever. Next destination is to the ‘eternal forest’ which I suspect may then lead to the final boss (or give something to beat them) but I guess we’ll see.

Tonight’s plan is… I dunno, it depends on my energy which feels a bit low. I do wanna do ficcing, 59 look for the phone, or some on ESO abut honestly? I dunno.

Tomorrow (or Tuesday) is likely Stranger Things, though which day depends, again, on my energy and mindset.
shadowhive: (Tate Rubberman)
Mood went on downswing again last night (coupled with a bad headache) which means I’ll likely take awhile to get to answering things.

In an attempt to distract my brain I ended up watching The Lazarus Effect last night, so thoughts under the cut after the premise.

Scientists have found something that they think will bring people back to life, after test on a dog goes successfully an accident in the lab claims one of the scientists so they decide to use it on her….

Todays plan is fortnite, maybe read ABC murders sone more, the masked singer final and then…. I dunno.

So this past weekend has been very *flops uselessly*

Right after I did the round up post we went to go and pick up mums meds. We were only gonna go there and sainsburys but we went into TK Maxx and I’m glad we did! I picked up a few books, a haunted house book called Hellhouse, a nice hardcover of Sherlock Holmes and another one. If you have ever been into TK a you know the books are random and disorganised so I always look through everything in case there’s something relevant to my interests (I’ve found some really good Star Wars books that way) and to my surprise there was a Stranger Things book! And then I pulled it out to see which it was and it was Flight Of Icarus, the Eddie one! So of course I had to nab it. I dunno when I’ll read but I’ll definitely try to soon.

In Sainsburys mum got some clothes she’d wanted in the sale, then I got a cute lil Lego set with hedgehogs and the two Lego magazines I get. But ugh it was tiring.

That meant my focus was a bit off Saturday night, Seapeekay had an event but I only half paid attention and then I ended up just flopping after it.

I did put a Steve funko in my watchlist that night and woke to an offer of 20% off so off course I nabbed it. And the flayed Billy funko arrived too.👀 I also put two Eddie ones into my watchlist Sunday, saying I’d not get one till I’d seen him… cut to today and I’ve ordered one oops.i di really need to find the Henry one I picked up, it’s gone awol (likely cause mum moved it)

(I have a problem I even changed my Netflix icon from Diego to Steve.)

Fortnite also has the Stranger Things stuff back in and I’m puzzled again how they have Steve’s bat and Eddie’s spear but neither Steve or Eddie.

Sunday I ended up watching the last of the ITV Marple series and… it was ok. It was a bit slow and the actual murder didn’t happen until about two thirds in and it did pick up a bit after that. The thing is it’s like a few of the Marple eps, Marple herself isn’t really properly intergrated (she just keeps turning up! Even when the main guy we follow is on his honeymoon in Italy) so it wasn’t a surprise when I saw it’s one of the stories the series adapted that didn’t even have Marple in. I guess that’s why Poirot was so well done, the series adapted only all of the stories he was in without randomly inserting him into others.

I dunno what the Sunday thing will be now though, I guess we’ll see. Maybe I’ll get back to The Umbrella Academy or something else entirely.

I did indeed to watch Spree on Saturday, but cause I didn’t have the focus I switched it to Sunday. It is pretty good! It’s a solid concept and Joe Keery is really good as the main character (and yeah looks good in tone two scenes he’s bloody) and it’s so funny to see the actress that played Jen in Agatha All Along in another role. But damn most of the people Kurt killed on his spree (at least to start with) were really dicks.

I did look on ao3 to see if there was any fics from it and damn, so many are Stranger Things crossovers which isn’t a surprise really and I’ve added some into my marked for later cause it was 3 am.

Today was meant to be the phone appointment so we went out with Naryu and then waited.

And waited.

And waited.

The call was meant to be at 2:30, but there was no sign of anything. Mum eventually decided to chase it up and apparently they cancelled it and tried to call Thursday. Yeah the first day i was out all day since the biopsy. I checked the phone and they called twice in the morning but didn’t leave a clear message, so why didn’t they call again on the Friday? I dunno, but it’s another example of their uselessness.

They’re gonna call again tomorrow at 5 but it seems just to be a chance up and not any real answers but I’m not too surprised.

The plan tonight is to do some gaming and start Stranger Things season 4, though it depends on my focus and energy. My gaming is meant to be Elder Scrolls Online and Dreamlight valley both of which have events ending soon which I need to speedrun to finish which is annoying.

And speaking of gaming it’s so sad that Multiversus is ending soon. It was really fun and had such potentional but they fumbled it.

The hope for this week is:
*Go through the prompt lists d maybe add things
*The next ep of the rig
*Read more ABC Murders
*Find the Henry funko
*organise and add to icons
*hopefully Indiana Jones or Alan Wake

(Again I’m sure I’m missing something obvious)
shadowhive: (Awsten Rainbow boy)
Another slight fandom post. (Before I finish fic and then reply to comments later)

So last night I did end up watching a film, Tarot. It’s a film that had been on my radar for awhile even though I’d not seen a trailer. That’s cause the monsters were designed by Trevor Henderson so I was immediately interested. I think that was part of the reason I didn’t watch trailers, not wanting to be spoiled by them.

I was hunting it down but had no luck getting it, then when I saw Smile 2 I got an Amazon digital code from a selection of films and since Tarot was one I got it. So it’s been sitting there for about two months or something. (Like with so many things stress has meant I’ve not been in the mindset to watch things in general)

But finally I decided to watch it last night and… it was ok, which was a bit disappointing.

Really it’s a standard horror plot: a group of friends (who maybe late teens or early 20s) are staying at a house, they find something strange (in this case as the title implies a tarot deck) and they mess with it, unleashing a curse in the process.

The problems are the usual things in films of this kind. The characters aren’t developed too well (I read on tv tropes two were a couple but that wasn’t made clear at all) and they did some incredibly stupid things (one is warned to surprse the instinct to run so… they run, one is told to avoid enclosed spaces so goes into an elevator). It doesn’t help that the film is also a 12 for some reason? If it was 15 it could be scorn, or with more than just a pair of blood splatters.

There’s also an old lady that survived a curse that killed her friends (that they just stumble onto??) and she somehow knows exact details of how it all started which just seemed so… how could that knowledge have been passed down so accurately when everyone involved died (and certainly the person that started wouldn’t leave a note saying ‘I did this, here’s how!’)

There are a few good things though. The creature designs are all really good, especially the Fool and the magician sequence was well done too. And the deck as a whole has some really creepy art. The concept itself is a good one too I just wish it could have been executed a bit better. (I also liked that, a rarity, there’s more than one survivor)

This morning the storm had come back so we stayed indoors. We ended up watching a Marple ep (A Caribbean Mystery which was pretty good) so now we only have one Marple left from the itv series before we’ve watched them all (cause we saw the middle one of the final series a few months back). Endless Night is next week then it’s done.

There was DND which was fun, though my brain was bad with thinking on numbers.

Then I watched the Nessie thing which was pretty good and it’s renewed my cryptozoology interest so now I wanna find other things on it.

I’m gonna do a lil bit of gaming after Pottery Throw Down, then maybe watch Spree (unless the storm messes with my head).

This week’s plans are:
*Finish the two ‘main fics’ before moving onto my WIPs and prompt stuff
*Get back to Indiana Jones (I wanna hit fascists with brooms again)
*More Stranger Things and The Rig (also maybe Beacon 23 and Horrors Greatest)
*tv stuff (Silent Witness, Father Brown, Death In Paradise, Masked Singer)
*finally get round to sorting icons
*Read the Cult Of The Lamb graphic novel
*Start ABC Murders
*Back to Alan Wake II
*The trip to Birmingham for Murder On The Orient Express at the theater

I feel I’m also missing stuff, but those are the main things that have come to mind.
shadowhive: (Rubius Sword)
So this post is gonna be a follow up to the nonsense in this one about the boiler nonsense.

So since we heard nothing Thursday we figured we would Friday, but alas we heard nothing. Mum was gonna call this morning (Saturday) but after her usual Friday call with her friend she decided to chase it up.

It took three calls, a lot of it on hold, to finally find out what the issue was. For some reason, despite the thermostat being an essential part of the heating system, they won’t cover it. To me that’s baffling, what’s the point of emergency cover if it wont cover one specific part, especially when said part is necessary for the boiler to function.

Naturally mum was both frustrated and furious at them, and she’s decided that we need to cancel the insurance and find someone else to cover it.

Other than cancelling the insurance I wasn’t sure what was going to happen Friday night.

This morning (so Saturday) she came up out of nowhere and quizzed me about money which I wasn’t in the mindset for. Turns out she’d called the person that serviced the boiler and he’ll come and sort it out for £200 which isn’t something we can exactly cover. Apparently he said he’d give us a month to pay which is better than having to find op it out of nowhere I suppose. I didn’t appreciate either that it was happening Tuesday which is gonna be a shopping day and she knows that but… eh, me saying anything doesn’t matter.

We had words while out with Naryu, about that, about the meter replacement happening Monday, about sorting the insurance (I won’t to wait to sort a new one once he next money was in she, instead, wants it sorted this coming week) and just… ugh. The whole thing is just extra stress.

It hasn’t helped that the stress, combined with the back pain and lack of sleep lately, has combined to make my mood really low and I hate that. It’s also trashed my focus (in part due to having to be alert for calls) and just… ugh. I hate the whole thing.

Mum had a call from my cousin and she bought up the situation and he said her brother would give money towards it though I’m doubtful because that’s doesn’t sound like my uncle, unless he’s had a personality transplant while in hospital.

But ugh. I hate the whole situation. I’m glad tomorrows gonna be a day if…nothing before three days of stress (Monday with the meter being replaced, Tuesday with food shop and thermostat and then Wednesday mum wants to sort the damn insurance).

***

Other things though and… there’s not a lot honestly. I’ve mostly just been watching the Realmathon and reading some of my book, plus doing games on the switch. Nothing big, just Fortnite/Fall Guys/Star Wars Hunters. Oh and James Marriott posted a new photoshoot where he looks really good, I wonder if the photoshoots related to the music vid (if there is one) cause there’s a new song in a week or two.

The Realmathon ends Monday and, despite all the disruption that’ll be exhausting, hopefully that will mean my time will be more my own so I can return to Stranger Things and The Rig cause I wanna know what happens damnit. And I still need to watch Tarot.

I did watch the second Escape Room film last night, Tournament Of Champions I dunno if it was causal my focus but it didn’t feel as good as the first one. I think it didn’t help that it kinda felt a bit… contrived. Like in the first one all the people were invited to participate whereas this time the organisation managed to (somehow!) get prior winners all on the same train. And not just a regular train, but a subway train. With no other people on it. In New York.

Some of the rooms were nice, but a lot felt kinda unfair and then the ending was a bit ??? What’s strange though is that there’s another cut of the film (included on dvds and blu rays) and I’m really curious about it. Apparently the start and end is different and one character isn’t in it at all (and at least two new ones are in it) so I might be tempted to look for it and see.

Today has been a low energy day though I ended up listening to two of the Rusty Quill Rusty Fears things they’ve done (it’s a contest and there’s 6 stories total, with a pool to decide the best) and I just have two more left which I might listen to tomorrow.

But anyway I’m gonna try and rest. I’ve been hoping to fic but my brain has been a bit bleh and I’ve not had the focus to even look properly. But eh I guess we’ll see.
shadowhive: (Liar Liar Quackity)
So it’s snowflake time but I’m gonna do that in a separate post later (after so:e thought) cause there’s further nonsense that we’re getting into.

So in a recent post I mentioned the thermostat acting up, so on Saturday mum decided to call up someone. (She would have done sooner but assumed I’d somehow sorted it despite me saying I’d not). We were told someone would call so we were pretty much on standby just in case but no one did.

Come Sunday morning and they had called and sent someone. I stayed upstairs out of the way (after all I’d only get in the way) and mum said the guy said it was some sort of pressure issue. I had to activate emergency credit on the meter, then put the heating on before going up to dnd. I put on 14 then didn’t really think about it.

When mum went to bed I turned it back down, then sat down and watched stuff. I’d assumed it had gone down until I got up to get something and saw the boiler light still on. I checked the thermostat and it was on 17. I tried turning it down but it did nothing so I left a note for mum about it.

At 2 mum had gone down and called me, before even reading the note, so I had to explain it was t coming down and she’d have to call them up again, which she did. (At this point it was 18)

It stayed high all night, burning through the emergency credit and mum fell when she closed a window she opened cause it was too warm for her (but I didn’t know until I woke).

We were going to put money on the gas card when we walked the pup but due to her fall she didn’t feel up to going (and waiting for a call back). So I went alone. Its annoying the nearest pay point is 20 minutes away (the old one was 5 mins away) and as it was my first time going anywhere alone since much stitches I was a bit nervous, but I knew it needed to be done. (Plus side I got the first issue of the Dalek part work, not that I’m getting it cause it’s like over £1000 for it all) I’m not put it on the meter until it’s sorted cause I don’t want it eaten again.

But ugh it ended up being exhausting. I only went in two places, one to put money on the card and to look in the co-op but ugh that was exhausting by the time I came out. I was so glad to be home.

(Additional stiches downside I can’t pet dogs I see this is terrible)

At time of writing (2:40pm) there’s been no call or sign of anyone coming so I doubt it’ll be sorted today. Which ugh.

Ok that’s been a much longer ramble than I expected oop

Friday night I ended up watching a film called Escape Room on bbc1. I was looking for something to watch and saw it in the tv guide but wasn’t sure if it was one I’d seen before (there’s two Escape Room films, completely unrelated and released in a year of each other, along with at least one other unrelated one too). It turned out to be one I’d not seen and it was pretty good some of the rooms were so well done (though the first kill felt so wrong) and although the end was a lil messy it was still pretty good. It ended on a sequel hook, and the sequel is gonna be on this Friday so I’m gonna check that out.

Saturday I watched a film called Missing Link which was entertaining enough but then I suddenly got too drained ao couldn’t focus on reading like I hoped. Then when I felt I could it got too dark which was annoying. But then there was the masked singer which was fun. I guessed the singer that was revealed (well I recognised the voice but couldn’t think of the name till someone said it).

I had hoped to either watch something or game in the night but didn’t have the focus to do so which was annoying.

Sunday we watched a Marple episode which was pretty good. We only have a few episodes of it left so I think we’ll be back to watching it on Sundays now. Then there was dnd which was good as always (though we’ve been doing it for 2 years now what??) and then there was the Realm event which I found I couldn’t focus on properly, ugh.

But I was able to watch Quackity’s stream before heading up and it was so fun. There’s been drama again lately and people probably expected him to say something (even though he’s not involved) but instead he was like I have three things to say: that he cut his finger, merch is still available and there’s a new multi language game show thing he’s doing (which honestly sounds so fun!) and then he was like ‘I’m sure I had something else to say but I can’t remember bye!’ I love him he’s so unserious (but also genius using this to promote his cool new project instead)

As you can tell from the amount of times I’ve mentioned, but focus was too off to work on fic which has been so annoying cause I know if I lock in I’ll be able to finish them. Ugh. Hopefully this week

This morning mail has came in the form of dungeons and dragons adventure, which has new sets of dice (including a pretty glittery green set) and a case for the coins that have been with the issues. Also my shoto merch is finally in the country so should be here this week (yipee!)

This week is Seapeekay’s realmathon which is starting soon (it was mean to to be at 1 but Seapeekay standard time has struck again) which should be fun but will also mean I might not be able to continue Stanger Things or The Rig this week.

Now though I’m gonna flop and maybe post snowflake later unless I get distracted, inspired or unfocused.
shadowhive: (Prince Sidon Zora Prince!)
Last post of the year, (unless I finish a fic between now and midnight) so I hope everyone has a nice and safe new year night.

Sunday was a pretty good day, I watched Witness For The Prosecution and then there was Dungeons And Dodongos which is always a fun time. (Especially since Shad was back yay! 🖤)

Then in the night Taskmaster was on which was pretty fun. There wasn’t any details on whoever on whoever is in the next series though, which they do sometimes reveal.

Then I watched Gosford Park which the tv guide billed as a whodunit but damn. It was just so… slow and I completely lost interest and got bored. It didn’t help that the ‘victim’ wasn’t found until 1 hour 20 mins in (in a 2 hour 15 film) and it was just a bit… bleh.

Thankfully that was followed by the Quackity lore stream which was chaotic and very scuffed (it ended up having issues a few times). But it was fun, if tragic. I might try and get one of the merch hoodies for it (though damn why is the chip only in bundles?) but I half expect them to sell out first.

Yesterday was also a slow day. I watched Abominable which was fun, then The Incredibles 2 which I’d not seen before but it was pretty good. (I had my suspicions about who was working for the villain which turned out to be sorta right).

But also the Cult Of The Lamb graphic novel came! With cool physical versions of the games cards. I hope to read it soon.

That night I watched Cunk On Life, I’d not seen any of her stuff before but now I want to cause it was so funny and silly.

Then today was the day of the biopsy which… honestly I half expected either a cancellation call or to arrive and find there was an issue, thankfully it went ok. Though ugh. I told mum not to cause issues cause of all trouble and she promised she wouldn’t… so what happens the second I’m in the treatment room? She embarrassingly goes on about it. Which threw me off cause I wanted to ask questions and such but they went out my head.

The doctor shown what they were gonna do on a piece of paper. What they did is like an eye with the former wound being the middle. I dunno if they dug in further than that or anything, but I just lay down, got injected and then they went to work. I didn’t feel anything and had my eyes closed the whole time.

With the stitches I can’t bend down, or stretch really so I have to be careful for awhile. Now I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to see if I actually get answers though I’m not optimistic with the time frame.

Mum mentioned wanting to get cat food so I suggested we get it when we got home, cause I knew we’d be tired when we got back. After getting stuff in the co-op… I found my wallet wasn’t there. This time it was the other one and I assumed I’d left it at home only nope, it was back in the car again. So that was stressful time which I didn’t need ugh.

The rest of the day I watched The famous Five (which was set at a hotel and pretty good), then Seapeekay’s stream and then the lottery new year bash (which going on Star Wars Hunters). Mum said we could have domino’s cause of the stress so we had that so at least some will be for tomorrow.

Now I’m trying to get comfortable, its hard to find a position that doesn’t catch the stitches, and watch Black Panther cause it’s on tv.
shadowhive: (Shadow Ultimate pose)
So yesterday I managed to go see Sonic 3! Yipee! I did wanna do my nails for it but I couldn’t find black polish even though I know there is some which was annoying. There was a further annoyance in the morning of the bus website claiming there was no service for our stop (thankfully I spotted one go past).

Anyway, I headed to town and ended up being there an hour and a half early so I ended up wandering round more than I hoped. I didn’t get anything exciting though money did drain which was annoying. My best purchase was probably a funko mini puft from b and m and Mandalorian lip balm from there. (Alas nowhere had Frozen Empire). Also WH Smith’s didn’t have dnd stickers boo (if anyone spots them somewhere lemme know)

It was pretty eerie though, cause there’s been this mist/fog around on and off these past days so it felt pretty spooky.

Anyway! Once I was seated in the cinema there were a bunch of trailers, though I think the only interesting one is Elio (I’m a sucker for space). I’m still sceptical about the Minecraft movie though.

I loved that the rating card for Sonic was an art piece by someone, that was really cute. But anyway, film thoughts!

Unfortunately I missed the bus by a minute and at that point everything was shutting so I started walking and got the bus halfway back so that wasn’t too bad. Plus I liked the spookyness of walking in the fog.

Once home I found out mums friend, who was meant to come today, was too sick to come. I hope she feels better but it felt ironic. She was meant to come last week but mum got her to stay away so she wouldn’t catch what I had, only to get something anyway.

That meant today was a more restful day. I watched the rerun of the Agatha Christie documentary from a year or so back. I really need to read those books mum got me, I’ve not read a single one which is a shame. While the two poirot films were on (Death On The Nile and Evil Under The Sun) I built the next Lego set I got, the Up house.

It looks nice, though one piece has gone awol. The interior is a bit lacking though. There’s nice references to the film but it’s just a bit cramped which tends to be an issue with some Lego buildings. Still it was super on sale (and a gift) so I can’t complain really. The figures are good though and I love Russell’s overloaded backpack though it does feel odd that the bird’s not included.

Since this is a film post, mum wants to go see the Robbie film Better Man.i can’t say I’m too surprised cause she does like Robbie, but her interest has really peaked these last days. She wants to go to the Bentley Bridge cinema when her money is in cause the local cinema isn’t showing it, but that’s both an awkward place and tickets are twice as much which feels a lot to me. Of course the bigger issue is that I’ve got the biopsy in a few days, which means I’ll have stitches so 8m not sure how I’d be going. If I’m up to it we could go next Friday and eh, even if it’s not good I’ll be able to go to the Wolverhampton Forbidden Planet and Entertainer so should be able to get a sale thing or two.

But ugh I can’t lie I am starting to get anxious about it. I still half expect it to get cancelled last minute but then I’m also like… what state will I be in with stitches? Will I be able to sit or lay down without hurting? And, with it being new year, will I be safe to drink? And then, of course, there’ll be the waiting for the results. What will happen first, the results, Seapeekay finally sending the poster or the Set It Off gig?

Ah well.

Tonight I finished the last ep of Stranger Things season 2 and mum was down here for it. I put it on cause I thought she was heading up but she didn’t and I could see her watching occasionally, probably confused as all hell as to what was going on. It was really good though, we got Billy being sexy then a homoerotic fight with Steve and then everything going down. Clearly closing the gate isn’t the end of it (there’s two more seasons out already after all!) so I’m curious how it’s gonna go. Unlike with season 1 and 2 (where there was a massive gap between them and I forgot stuff as a result). I’m gonna start 3 next year. By which I mean in a week or two. (I’ll probably watch The Rig season 2 first)

It did make me wanna go back on Dead By Daylight though, so I did that and played a few matches as Steve un the winter event. I’m glad I got his slutty lil outfit but it’s a shame it seems to not have a bloody version to unlock.

Anyway, now I’m gonna bundle up, maybe fic and then there’s the rest of the weird days between Xmas and new year. (At least tomorrow has the Taskmaster new year thing and Quackity lore stream, then Monday has Incredibles 2)
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
So it’s another post time, oops!

Yesterday I finished building the four droids and ahh! I love them so many they’re so cute and smol and adorable. They’re all the same basic construction, bar Chopper who threw me off a bit cause his was different (he’s slightly smaller and his legs are mismatched). And I love the variety of accessories between them, even though some do look silly. I dunno which my fav is though they all look so cute!

I took some pics as I was building them but I’ll take more tomorrow and post them on insta, maybe tomorrow before Sonic 3.

Last night was the double bill of Do tor Who and Wallace And Gromit so it’s time for thoughts of them.

First it was Who with Joy To The World. My thoughts are a bit… mixed.

The setting of the time hotel is a good one, and it could easily have been an episode just full of hijinks (which the original script apparently was and it’s a shame it wasn’t). However once the star seed is bought in (and ugh it turned into what people theorised) that side felt a bit… last minute added on. Which, again, according to Who magazine it kinda was?

Another odd thing was the episode’s main quest ‘companion’, Joy, isn’t in it as much as you’d think. (And all the characters that were marketed for it only really appear at the start.) Also there was this odd thing where the doctor spends a year in a hotel with Anita, which would’ve been a nice set up for her to be a companion but instead she gets abandoned which felt a shame.

There were good parts though! Ncuti was such a good Doctor and he’s great whenever he’s on screen. I really liked seeing a Silurian in a random ep (please more of that!) and like I said, the whole concept was nice. And damn, the scene where the doctor is cruel to Joy with her being angry about lockdown and the parties… that hit so close.

But yeah it just… didn’t feel quite right to me sadly. There was a trailer though which felt short, but Mrs Flood is back! And what looks like Skaro! And the companion is giving me Tegan vibes! But the best shot is a cartoon thing coming out of a screen. I’m super into that.

Then there was Wallace And Gromit, Vengeance Most Fowl.

My words for you if you’ve not seen it? Watch it. Watch it now. If you have the slightest interest or liking of Wallace And Gromit, watch it. Because it’s so fun.

I’m not gonna go into too much spoilers in case anyone hasn’t (it should be on iplayer and Netflix get it soon) but ahh! It’s so funny! The sight gags! The punny names! The boat chase! The cameo! And, of course, one of the greatest villains is back in the form of Feathers McGraw.

Honestly it’s so fun I might have to watch it again myself. (Though I do wanna give Gromita hug, he is so long suffering and deserves the world.)

Today I watched Skeleton Crew which was a lot of fun (and damn that ending!). If I had a pound for every Disney princess that showed up in Star Wars as a bounty Hunter I’d have £2 which isn’t a lot but it’s strange it’s happened twice. (Please Pokkit show up more in the series!)

Then I spent today making the second Lego set I got, the desert skiff and sarlacc. The sarlacc is quite impressive, taking up 4 of the 6 bags and it’s bigger than I expected. The skiff is nice too, though I wish the clear stand was a bit taller so it could be properly posed with the sarlacc (or there was a connection point on it) and it would’ve been nice if there was a skiff guard. But other than that? They both look great!

Now I’m bundling with Midna and watching stuff, before sonic tomorrow.

Yo ho ho

Merry christmas/happy holidays everyone! Ihope everyone has had a nice day and had nice things (or if you don’t celebrate, just a nice Wednesday).

I’ve mostly had Lego, so I’ve been spending the day building one of them. It’s a set of four droids and they’re Socute! Each one is three bags with the first making the body, the second making the legs and head while the third makes accessories. These include hats, a bow tie and a duck floatie which are both cute and pretty funny. I’ve just got one left to do (Chopper from Rebels/Ahsoka) but I dunno if I’ll do him today cause it’s already getting dark.

Pics on insta when they’re done!

Today’s mostly been spent bundled watching stuff and building, as well as walking the pup. The highlight so far has been Minions Rise Of Gru which has been fun, but I suspect Doctor Who and Wallace And Gromit will overtake it.

Thoughts on yesterday before I finish the post off. As predicted yesterday mornings shop was stress and tiring. Mostly the shop in sainsburys was fine, if annoyingly bright, though I lost track of how much things were. Then we got to the till and… my wallet wasn’t there which naturally caused a panic.

Mum sent me back to the car to see if it was there (I worried it was left at home) but Joy, who took us, said she’d pay when I couldn’t find it and we could sort it later. Alas that meant we couldn’t use the nectar card to get points or use them but it was fine.

Mum sent me to aldi to get some bits, mostly the veg but I was still so stressed by it all.

Thankfully/annoyingly when I put the stuff back in the cargo put the bag in I found the wallet on the back seat. I must’ve missed it when I first searched (it’s black in a black car plus it was dark with no light) but I felt so dumb over it all.

I was glad to be back home to rest.

One good thing from the shop though, I got the Dungeons And Dragons sticker starter set! I’d hoped to get it when I saw Sonic 3 so I’m glad I picked it up (I might see if I can find some packs when I go). The sticker book is much thicker than a regular one and it seems fairly detailed when I looked though quickly. The one odd thing, that will drive me crazy, is some stickers have 3 rarities: a common one, a silver and a gold and I??Is every one like that or just a few? I dunno, I’ll have to read and check, but I feel it’ll drive my neurodivergent mind crazy. (Also each pack has a card and they look pretty cool.)

We watched something about pantos on sky arts which was pretty fun, then it was the run of things in the night. Both me and mum dozed during White Christmas but thankfully were awake before then
End. The Doctor Who prom was soooo good! Doctor Who has so much good music and I loved all the creatures prowelling about, as well as the fun lil interludes. The focus did lean a bit much on the latest series though I guess that’s understandable. It does make me wanna watch more Who in general though. I might rewatch Rogue soon cause mum said she has no memory of it which??

Then there was Ghostbusters Afterlife which actually turned out to be really good! Id no real expectations, but I really enjoyed it and the end did give me feels (both the last scene and credit ones). I might try and find Frozen Empire.

I went to bed pretty early after the ghost story cause I was so tired.

Anyway! I hope everyone has a nice rest of the day/week!

So this last night I watched the final J-Horror Rising film which means thoughts ahoy!

Noroi: The Curse - 9/10

Premise: Noroi: The Curse is a chronicle of paranormal investigator’s investigation into a series of supernatural incidents.

Ok that premise is VERY vague, even more so than for Persona. However I think it’s important that if you watch this you go into it as blind as possible. (Which is easy cause the fair is fairly obscure, but it is on shudder in the US as well as this boxset.) As such these thoughts will also be more vague and general for this reason.

Like I mentioned before about J-Horror Rising, this is the one film on the boxset that I’d seen before and I consider it alone being worth picking the boxset up. I watched it first as a download (I dunno where from or why I got it) and then years later when it was on shudder uk (though alas it’s left).

The film could be best described as a found footage, since most of the sections are the investigator and his cameraman on their investigation. However the footage has been edited together (along with other footage) by the characters themselves into the titular documentary (apart from the opening and closing minutes). As such it has a feel of an actual documentary, complete with dates showing a timeline and captions when people are introduced (though not always translated alas, so I assume they’re names).

What Noroi nails is the sense of dread that happens throughout, especially as it gets more clear that something absolutely wrong is happening. There’s also a few moments towards the start that you think ‘wtf is this?’ But the reasons for their inclusion become more clear as it goes on. Of course there are things that don’t get answered, but that’s part of how good it is.

I’m curious if anyone else has seen it and what your thoughts are if you have.

There’s a bunch of special features for it (including 13 !! Deleted scenes) so I’m gonna check those out later tonight.

However with Noroi itself watched that completed my watch of the J-horror Rising boxset. Overall I think the boxset was pretty good. I can see myself watching most of them again at some point in the future, bar Inugami. But hey 1 film that I didn’t like out of 7? (Well 6 cause I knew I loved Noroi) I’d say that’s pretty good.

I really hope Arrow does another boxset like this, because it was so nice seeing these films get a release and directors being glad that they’re seen for more people.

***

The past few days have continued to be fairly low energy, not helped that it has suddenly gone really cold. Yesterday morning I woke, looked out the window and there’s snow. And, while it’s pretty, it means it’s suddenly gone so chilly which… ugh.

Yesterday was spent waiting on the mystery package which came pretty late but turned out to be taffy someone got me as an early Christmas present, yay!

I also did a little more on Echoes of wisdom and I did the eldin rift. The Goron’s are so cute and I love Ugh I did feel so dumb, not realising I could lift an an echo with wings to use it to fly until pretty late. Oops. I did a little today and met some deku shrubs, who are so adorable. I thought it was sweet they said they found some cotton candy… only I don’t think that’s what it is…

I’m hoping the iffy, hazy feeling doesn’t stay and goes away before the gig next week. I’m also not looking forward p to mums friend coming Saturday.

Tonight’s plan is to watch the Noroi special features and maybe start Alan Wake 2, but we’ll see what my energy/mindset is like.
shadowhive: (Awsten Mask)
So Monday and Tuesday I continued the J-horror Rising run with disc 3, yipee! So now there’s only disc 4 left to go which I’m really looking forward to, (and I’ve got the the included booklet thing to read to).

Carved: The Slit Mouthed Woman - 7/10

Premise time! After an earthquake children start to go missing and it seems to be related to the urban legend of the slit-mouthed woman. Two teachers decide to put a stop to it.

So I’m gonna preface this before I get into it, this film is about child abuse so that’ll be mentioned. (Also if you’re thinking of watching it, kids also die too)

Persona -7.5/10

Premise: Students start turning up in schools wearing masks. At first it seems like it’s a form of empowerment, since most are bullied, but then the deaths start…

What I find really sweet in the special features, which have featured new interviews with directors for some of them, is how they’re all so happy that they’re getting a release like this. Most haven’t had an international release and even those that have, have become obscure, so they’re so thrilled to get a release like this. It’s so sweet. And I’m glad for them most can see their stuff now.

Next week is the final disc, which is Noroi! Which is the one film on the set I’ve watched and know is so so good.

***

So my head is still a little hazy. Less so than earlier in the week but it comes and goes. It’s really super annoying and it’s making my focus so off which… ugh.

It wasn’t helped that I saw an old phone I thought lost and, yesterday, tried to get it working after charging it. It ‘works’ but it’s an android tied to Google to get apps sorted and it just wasn’t co-operating. I logged in with the right password, then it wanted me to do an ‘are you human’ test, then insisted sending a code to the backup email and even after I did all that it still wasn’t satisfied. Like, what more do you want from me??

I ended up giving up as the food shop was due. But it further makes me dislike phones.

Anyway, when I put the tv on the other day I saw a thing for a film on Amazon prime called Teh Lazarus Effect so I’m kinda curious cause it has Evan Peters (not that he’s seen more than a brief glimpse in the trailer) and Donald Glover (though he seems like he’ll die first). I think I’ll try and watch it soon though I dunno when.

Also from Amazon I picked up Thanksgiving cause it was still on offer so I’ll watch that close to the day, though not on the day cause the Sleep Token gig is then (ah! 2 weeks!!).

Yesterday was also tiring. Mum ordered something from TK Maxx to pick up and it was ready yesterday (actually Tuesday, but food shop) and I was meant to be going alone but mum inside on coming cause the litter didn’t come with the shop. As a result what was meant to be a quick trip ended up being a bit longer and we got more stuff which weighed heavy and so was tiring. It didn’t help that I woke up not particularly feeling up to going but not wanting to say it.

So off course when I got back I was all exhausted and flop.

Today is gonna be a rest day though. I wanna try and work on fic, then there’s Seapeekay’s squidcraft stream (he’s made it to day 3! Yipee!) and the Taskmaster final. (Alas this series hasn’t felt as good, but we’ll see who the next team is gonna be after it. Junior taskmaster was surprisingly good!) and then I wanna watch Stranger Things. Maybe I’ll watch more than just one ep but we’ll see.
shadowhive: (Parx Heads)
So earlier in the week (Monday and Tuesday), I want he’d the next two films on the j-horror rising boxset. I had intended to post my thoughts on them sooner, I did write them up after watching them, but between the trip and tiredness I just lost focus.

However here are the thoughts on the two films, Inugami and St John’s Wort which couldn’t be more different from each other.

Inugami - 3.5/10

Oh boy where to start with this one.

The basic premise is this: a new guy comes to a village, where he becomes involved with the woman who runs a paper mill. Unfortunately her family is, apparently, cursed by Inugami.

St John’s Wort - 7/10

The premise of this one is that a young woman, Nami, has inherited a mansion from her father who she never knew. She goes to look at it with her ex Kohei, in hopes that it will help inspire the video game he’s working on. But naturally, things take a turn.

I didn’t make a post on Halloween, because my focus was off but happy Halloween (belated!). I did do some cupcake decorating and pumpkin carving but as you can see I lacked creative skills.

Halloween was spent finishing Agatha All Along (definitely my fav of the marvel series I’ve seen, and I definitely hope they do follow ups) and watching the new 4k of Trick R Treat. I also watched a Hammer documentary which wasn’t as good as the Christopher Lee one which was a shame.

Friday I had even less energy, I woke up with a head and it wouldn’t go away, only getting worse couple with my stomach being funny. I think it’s due to anxiety of medical stuff (I might make a post about that sometime but locked, though there’s no updates). It was annoying cause I wanted to watch the Traick R Treat special features that night but alas nope. (So that’s delayed for awhile)

I intend to start the Doctor Who Season 25 boxset tonight, cause I do feel a bit better today which is good.

But onto the main post, which is thoughts on films! Starting with the two j-horror rising ones.

Shikoku - 7/10

So I’ve finally started the J-horror rising boxset! I was hoping to do it sooner but head’s been fuzzy. I always was hoping to do double bulls with them (3 of the 4 discs have two films on them) but alas when I watched this Monday I knew I’d be too tired for another to.

So! First one is Shikoku, which is named after a Japanese island. I dunno how many of the customs/rituals shown in this are actual things that go on there or how much is fictional to the film. I’m gonna guess there’s equal parts of both though. (I did just skim the wiki briefly and there IS a 88 temple pilgrimage on the island like in the film, so at least that is true)

The central premise is a woman comes back to her home town (it seems she’s gotten a house somehow, possibly from an inheritance but it’s not elaborated on) only to find her childhood friend has died years ago. Said friend’s mother has been going on the 88 temple pilgrimage, but backwards. (That’s how it’s described on the blu ray back, which made me think she was literally walking backwards but no, she was doing them in the reverse order)

Isola: Multiple Personality Girl - 5.5/10

The premise behind the second one is that, after the 93 Kobe earthquake, a woman with psychic abilities goes to help out in the relief efforts and, in doing so ends up starting with a school psychologist who is helping a girl with multiple personalities. The problem is a new one has shown up, resulting in mysterious deaths.

If either of these sound interesting as well as the boxset both are coming to Shudder in a few days. (It seems that most of the boxset films are on the same day which feels strange!)

Trick R Treat

Trick R Treat is a film I’ve watched annually on Halloween night for years (I think there’s only one time I didn’t see it on the night itself, cause I lost the dvd and had to replace it… only of course to find it later).

Anyway if you’ve not seen it the basic premise is this: it’s Halloween nights a town in Ohio. Over the course of the night four main stories are told. (And honestly I dunno how best to describe them without giving away what happens in each)

When arrow posted there was gonna be a new 4K edition I knew I had to get it, especially with J-horror rising. Included is a poster, some art cards and a booklet and there’s a bunch of new special features I’m looking forward to going through soon.

I’ve not rated it cause that’s for the j-horror rising stuff which is new to me but if I did I’d say it’s a ten, or at least close to it. There’s a reason why it’s one of the very few films I watch annually.

Anyway, I’m gonna walk the pup, then hopefully fic some more and maybe go on Fortnite before starting Who (expect a post on that tomorrow!)

Fun thing to wake up to today. The clinic that’s been treated me called and want to call me in the morning. I dunno why they couldn’t just tell me this morning (mum took the call) so now I have a call in the morning. I’m sure it’s gonna be nothing serious but still.

Ugh.

Anyway! This post is mostly gonna be about spooky stuff I watched yesterday.

I was gonna watch Hocus Pocus 2 in the afternoon, but I saw that the Corpse Bride was on itv 2 so I decided to watch that instead (I blame the Christopher Lee documentary reminding me he was in it). Before it was also two Halloween shorts, scared Shrekless (which is always fun, I love the duloc music box thing) and then there was the legend of smurfy hollow which was funny too.

I’d seen the Corpse Bride before and it was good, the stop motion is well done and I like the land of the dead (certainly it’s more fun than the human world).

After that I had Shoto’s spooky stream on, though my focus wasn’t fully there. (I did finally join his patreon cause I had a code for 30% off a first month so👀)

Then the night there was a few spooky things on BBC4. There was a documentary on MR James presented by Mark Gatiss, and his horror documentary stuff is always very good cause you can tell he has a genuine interest and love of it. Following that was two shorts, but neither of them really caught my focus.

Following them, though, was the main thing I was looking forward to a reading of Frankenstein by Alex Kingston.

I’d saw it mentioned on an ad during proms, so had been keeping an eye out for it. I’m glad I spotted it in the tv listings cause it was really good! Although it was a reading (and probably truncated a bit to fit an hour) she really gave it her all and sold it the whole time.

It’s amazing what Mary Shelley came up with at so young an age, but it’s also amazing how many things associated with Frankenstein aren’t from the story.

If you think of Frankenstein so many of the things aren’t there. The creature’s creation wasn’t done in a castle, Frankenstein wasn’t a doctor and he didn’t have an assistant. And, while the spark of life for the creature is commonly portrayed as being a result of lighting, that isn’t stated here. (In fact the process isn’t really described, mainly cause it’s told from Frankensteins pov and he doesn’t want people to do it).

However what surprised me most was the creature. He’s not just some lumbering brute, he’s intelligent, articulate. And, while he does kill, it’s not random. What also surprised me is he wanted a companion, mostly because I kinda pictured that ‘the bride’ of frankenstein was a concept came up with in adaptions wanting a follow up. Here he wants Frankenstein to make him a companion, pressuring him to do it until his creator destroys it instead of giving it life.

Which, of course, goes as well as you’d expect.

I might have to pick up the book to give it a read because I’m really curious about it now. And I’m also curious if there has been an actual faithful adaption (with an intelligent creature and scenes at the arctic, which again surprised me). Does anyone know if there’s one out there? There’s gotta be right?

But yeah it was so well done and I hope they get Alex back to do another reading. (It’s on iplayerhere if anyone is interested)

(I’m fully sure I had other thoughts about it but of course they deserted me as soon as I typed this post)

Tonight I’m gonna bundle up and hopefully start j-horror rising (unless a stream distracts me?).
