It’s that time again for a post and the last few days have been pretty busy.

(And once again I will refrain on commenting on politics but just know I’m absolutely fuming about how this Labour government keeps managing to get worse. Like it feels there’s no bottom for them and feels their promised change is a change for the worse. Ugh)

Friday was the release of new Sleep Token with Even In Arcadia. It’s really good and my favs are, other than Emergence, Look To Windward and Dangerous. (I now also picture Mon Mothma during a section of Caramel for some reason.)

Also band stuff it is funny Matt Tuck of Bullet has apparently pushed his ego too far and fucked up the joint Trivium they were doing. It’s funny seeing the scathing stuff about him but damn I do feel bad for my boy Jay.

Saturday I woke up and… my glasses were broken. The frame around one of the lenses is broken which means the lens is loose and liable to pop out. I must’ve rolled onto them in the night or something. I’ve used tape to hold it together which does work but ugh, I’m gonna see if I can get superglue today. I could get them fixed but I fear the expense and also feel I’m due an eye test this year so it’d be pointless.

Mum’s friend didn’t need anything when she came which was good and, after some consideration I ended up going to town anyway under my own steam. I didn’t do too much, just getting a few things mum wanted (and a cute lil Lego set with Guinea pigs that was reduced).

However the main reason I went was to see Thunderbolts* so thoughts under the cut.

That night was also new Who and my focus was a little off so I don’t think I enjoyed it was much as I could have (I blame going out and the annoying heat!) though it was good to see the fugitive doctor briefly (thoughI wish it hadn’t been spoiled for me😒 I hate it going to iplayer in the morning instead of on the showing). And I did love how it was showing the doctor relating to his new blackness (and his lil moment with Belinda understanding was so sweet).

It did feel though that it relied too much on things that we didn’t see before. Like there were multiple references to things the doctor did in offscreen adventures which did feel a lil much. But other than that it was good. I have liked that this season has been a wild variety of things though it does make me sad it’s almost over (though yay this week is the Interstellar Song Contest!)

Speaking of it does feel odd that Eurovision feels a bit… I dunno subdued kinda? Like if it wasn’t for Doctor Who having that ep the same day I feel I wouldn’t have known it was so close. (It’s only in the past few days I’ve even seen ads for it.)

But circling back to who I also listened to a Who audio with the Empire Of Racnoss andit was… it was ok, but I just don’t like the Racnoss in general so it is what it is. But it was funny the empress was voiced by the actress who plays Martha’s mum.

(Also I have been listening to Night Vale and damn I’m hoping the university of what it is people fuck off soon cause ugh.)

Sunday I watched the second half of Tales Of The Underworld and the tone is so different to the first half. It feels the Cad Bane half tells a more complete story but at the same time it’s kinda… eh? I definitely preferred the Ventress half.

Yesterday I finished the Secret Of Chimneys. I’ve been chipping away at it doing a chapter or two at a time but I ended up locking in yesterday and read half. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming and there were a lot of twists and red herrings so it was really good.

But damn there were still so many issues and typos with this printing. (And it makes me wonder if, at the time, they sent out redone ones). Like it didn’t really stop me enjoying it, though did take me out when punctuation was wrong, but in one of the last chapters a page was printed twice. I’m really hoping it’s a one off issue with this book and not something that plagued the collection cause I’ve got a load of the books now (this was just the first one I read)

And now the gaming portion of the post.
*I finished Planet of Lana before it left Game Pass, yay! It is a very pretty though it is pretty open to interpretation. Still it was good and mui is so adorable
*I went on Lego Star Wars and finished the events on the planets (Coruscant was the last planet I needed to do) so that was two more achievements ticked off. I still need to play through the levels on free play (despite it being years old only Episode I is 100%) so maybe I’ll do that? But I do wanna do other SW games too
*I did a free days on Blue Prince, I still feel I’ve not got anywhere really but I unlocked the foundation, gemstone cave, grotto and got the boiler working
*I finally went back on Alan Wake 2 and finished the Casey chapter so maybe I’ll do some more
*I also used my Xbox credit to get the Dredge expansions, cause a pass for them was on sale (and I had xbox credit) and I’ve still not been on it.

I had been hoping to watch Sinners last night, but the cinema inexplicably had no showings of anything (I’m sure it had listening Saturday but when I checked yesterday afternoon there were none). The listings has been updated to how Thursday is the last showing so I’m hoping to see it tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Next few days the plan is this
*Sinners
*Work on (and hopefully finish) fic
*Do some gaming, maybe Alan Wake 2, maybe Star Wars
*Stranger Things (I still need to watch those last two eps)
*watch something spooky
*Finish the Who ray special features
*Grievous quests on Fortnite (when they’re live later in the week)
*icon organise

I’m sure I’m missing something super obvious too.

But for now I’m gonna zoom down to home bargains in search of super glue (I didn’t see any in town) and then wait on the food shop,
shadowhive: (Lothcat Sleepy)
So Saturday night was new Who time, I’ve not many deep thoughts this time other than the obvious, Conrad is a massive dick. I feel he’s gonna be the one to cause whatever happens in the finale which… I guess we’ll see.

Yesterday was May 4th which was Star Wars day! Before the Star Wars stuff I listened to a Night Vale ep (I am still so far behind but after listening to that it made me wanna listen more so I might try and try and put one ep on day) and we went to see the ducklings! They were further out in the water this time but! There were now a second lot of them! So there’s a group of 8 and a group of 5! They’re so cute!

For Star Wars day I did a bunch of Star Wars things.

*Read the FCBD Star Wars comic: it had three stories, tied to the current series and they were pretty good! It has made me intrigued to check some out which I guess is the main goal
*Fortnite, I used vbucks on the Star Wars music and Lando bundles, plus did a few games as Fennec (who is my main go to). I redeemed the first two battle pass pages so next is Poe yipee!
*I built the Lego Falcon polybag which is cute, though the dish has already gone awol
*unhixed the micro galaxy squadron ships and the scythe annoyingly has a pylon that won’t attach fully

I also watched the first three eps of Tales Of The Underworld, the Ventress arc. It is good to see her again and I liked how she came to befriend Lyco, though it did feel like it’s gonna lead into its own thing (and probably should’ve been). The Cad Bane eps I’ll have to watch another time.

Star Wars day always makes me wanna go on the games, but I didn’t feel I had the energy to go on either Outlaws or Jedi Survivor/Fallen Order last night. Hopefully this week I will though, but Planet of Lana is leaving game pass soon so I might be doing that too. (Or maybe I’ll go back to Lego Star Wars to finish some of the achievements)

It also makes me wanna the films though I’ve not done a run in forever. Maybe I will over the summer though I’m sure when I get to Episode IX my thoughts on it will drive me crazy.

Today I had considered going to see Sinners but, as it’s bank holiday, there’s no buses. I can, in theory, walk both ways but it is tiring and I don’t think I’d be able to. I might go for one of the showings this week which are late ones but at least I’d only walk one way. (Unless it has an afternoon showing Saturday but I don’t see it happening.)

As a result today ended up being a low energy day, with my eyes aching a bit so I just had Seapeekay’s stream on and was on Fortnite on the switch. But at least Midna has returned to snuggles again which is a sign the weather is cooling.

I hope to get some ficcing done this week but my issue up is that my brain has too many thoughts and can’t seem to settle on which to actually get down.

There’s also the usual last night (and this morning) that I just got hit by a random sadness wave which just… lowered my energy even more which… ugh.

But anyway this week is mostly gonna be low energy, there’s library tomorrow (I’ll read secret of chimneys some more), 3 new Andor’s on Wednesday and Sleep Token Friday, then Who Saturday (and mums friend coming ugh). I do wanna watch Stranger Things though not set on a day. Now though gonna snuggle Midna and see what my brain settles on doing.
shadowhive: (11th/Professor Cox Neck)
On Saturday night my focus was too off to watch anything or fic so I decided to put on a Who audio I got from the Easter sale. I decided to start the Classic Doctors New Monsters set I got, which is the second volume of the series. As the name implies the series has classic doctors up against new enemies so this one has the Vashta Nerada, Racnoss and Carionites.

The first audio, which I’d already heard cause it was a promo with the who magazine awhile back, was Night Of The Vashta Nerada. It’s a solid story with the fourth doctor alone helping a team find out why workers at on an amusement park suddenly went missing. The team is a pretty good one (there is one really unlikeable one but that’s absolutely intentional) but I think what lets it down is the fact the Vashta are a very visual enemy (have to count the shadows to see if they’re around) and that’s a thing that doesn’t really translate to audio.

Sunday I watched the next two eps of The Residence (so eps 3+4) and I continue to really enjoy it. I’m still not sure who actually did it as there’s been a few red herrings so far. But damn I really do not like that social lady.

Then in the night I decided to watch a film on Amazon and settled on The Last Voyage Of The Demeter. It was a pretty good film, though of course I was sad about the poor dog. Of course the central thing of it did feel like a problem. So dracula charters a boat to take him to England, he has one person he had bought along to drink from but then starts killing the crew when they find her. He does realise that a ship needs a crew to function right? Like they could have abandoned the ship in daylight (which, apparently, no one even things to do) or he could have killed so many that the ship could just end up drifting of course and then he’d be utterly fucked.

Today I finished the last two eps of the first arc of Andor and, yep, those rebels Andor ended with are in total morons. Like they had no clue what they were doing, started shooting each other, had a game of Star Wras rock paper scissors and then got attacked by a creature which meant Andor could escape.

Huge kudos though for the design team for the Chandrillian wedding because damn. All the sets, the costumes, coming up with an entire culture and customs. That’s super impressive. The last ep was such mood whiplash though going between the wedding, Dedra meeting Syril’s mum and then imperials acting like utter assholes (including the assault scene).

Then I was finally able to finish up on Echoes Of Wisdom. Turns out the fight I thought was the last wasn’t the last (it was an echo Zelda) but this time I was able to beat it, go into Null’s body (a level that could’ve been a lil longer I thought) and then beat Null which I managed to do in one try, yipee! So now that’s done but ahh the end was sad with Tri going away but at least it seems, from the credits, that Conde’s brother is coming home.

Now I’m gonna bundle up a bit cause this is the busy week. There’s mums birthday tomorrow, voting on Thursday, then Star Wars fortnite on Friday, Free comic book day/sea life on Saturday and Star Wars day and dnd Sunday. So busy week, lots going on so I’m thinking next week I can do things I’d hoped to do, namely finish Stranger Things and get back to American Horror Story.

Good news everyone! I found my glasses!

Turns out they had slipped down behind my bed and were tucked under something so had been easy to miss when I first felt around there. So that means. I can see ok yipee!

My eyes were still a bit achy from using the others so I decided not to see Episode III in the cinema, which sucks cause I wanted to but the timing has really been so… ugh.

Good things yesterday was some mail came. The postman had a few things to deliver but instead of handing them over in one go handed over one, then slipped the other two through the door (so he came back three times which was odd). The mail was a fox hoodie I back pad on kickstarter last year (with some pins and stickers) which looks so pretty and had a nice package. There was a book, Appointment With Death and other plays. Lastly there was the new Doctor Who magazine which has a great cover of 15 with Mr Ring-a-Ding (and has previews for the coming eps, but I feel I’ve not learned anything really other than being most excited for The Interstellar Song Contest).

Today I managed to, finally, read Rise Of Hellfire issue 2 which I’ve had sitting around for about two weeks? (At least). I’m glad I read it cause it was so good and I’m looking forward to how the rest will go. I can tell I’ll be sad it’s only 4 issues.

I also started Andor after waiting a few days. They put up 3 eps and I’ve only watched the first (I might watch the next one later or tomorrow). So far it’s been pretty good with Cassian stealing a prototype ship, incompetent Rebels and Mon in new fancy outfits. And, of course, the Empire being utterly terrifying in wanting to ‘relocate’ an entire civilisation. Considering the Ghorman massacre is a known event… it’s gonna go horribly.

Also today was the latest Doctor Who ep and I managed to avoid spoilers for the ep. If you want to watch but haven’t yet do not read further.

Now though I’m gonna go on Oblivion, then watch a film (unless my eyes get tired) though I also might try and get some words out too.
shadowhive: (Qimir Sabers)
The past few days have been semi less stressful than before, but mostly because it’s a bank holiday so nothing can really be done (so money still isn’t in and I don’t expect it to be until Tuesday at the earliest which I’m trying not to be frustrated about)

The main source of stress was yesterday morning cause my glasses have gone completely awol. I honestly have no idea where they are. The problem is I can’t remember if I took them off downstairs Friday night before bed (and so they’re somewhere down here) or if I took them up and they’re in my room. I had thought it was the latter but they’re not under the pillows or either side of the bed so I’m at a loss. (Mum looked too and had no luck either.) the only good thing is that they’re in the house somewhere it’s just… where. (I just hope Naryu hasn’t hid them she did that with mums before but not for awhile)

Thankfully mum knew where my old pair was but… they’re an old pair. They’re good enough that I can see but when I was on ESO last night I couldn’t read half of the in game text which is irritating (Especially when I was gonna get back to Stranger Things this week and I just know there’ll be subtitles.) If it comes down to it I might have to contact my opticians for my prescription and sort a pair out but… ugh.

Anyway there’s also been Star Wars celebration but I’ve not been able to watch or properly able to catch up with the official streams. However there’s been some good things:

*The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming out next year (the title is so clunky though) and there’s gonna be Zeb from Rebels, a fight on an AT-AT and Sigourney Weaver is gonna be a New Republic commander and pilot
*There’s gonna be a new film in two years called Star Wars Starfighter, not much info other than it has Ryan Gosling and it’s set a few years after IX
*Other films are in development but I’ll believe them when there’s actual details
*The Hasbro panel announced new figures but not too many. There’s Dash Rendar (it still feels odd there’s a sudden big Shadows Of The Empire push) and stuff from Jedi Survivor including a two pack with Turgle and Cal (though his alternate head is…) the coolest looking thing is a furry bantha! (Still no Qimir figure though)
*Hayden and Manny were there and both got massive amounts of love which is so deserved
*The animation panel announced a new series, Maul Shadow Lord. A Darth Maul series was not on my bingo card but it does sound cool, though it’s another new Rise of the empire era thing.
*Theres a new Clone Wars era turn based strategy game called Zero Company which looks pretty cool
*Ahsoka season 2 is filming soon (damn why so long)but I love the idea of a Thrawn/Ackbar face off(and ahhh Loth kittens!)
*Visions was the only panelI saw and that’s coming in Octoberand the concept art looks so cool (and the was a clip of someone that’s very friend shape. The new volume has sequels to volume 1 stuff so I’ll have to rewatch them (and one is getting a limited series too)
*The next Fortnite season is confirmed to be a five week Star Wars one with Palpatine, Mace Windu, Poe, Phasma and Darth Jar Jar coming (at least) which is a crazy line up.I’m surprised they didn’t announce a Cassian cause surely there is one

I think that’s all the big announcements (and obviously Andor is coming this week and Tales Of The Underworld Star Wars day.)

Despite not fully being in the hype this time it has made me wanna get back to Star Wars stuff. I still have a massive pile of Star Wars books to get round to so I might actually pick one to read after the current books. (And even if not there’s a bunch of graphic novels that will be easier to check out instead.) There’s also Visions volume 2 and the other Tales Of The Empire stuff to watch so I might watch them (and Young Jedi Adventures and Bad Batch, fuck I’m so far behind). And the black series figures have made me wanna get back on Jedi Survivor which I might do this week if I’m not too tired.

But ahhhh Star Wars!

But of course last night was one of my other main loves, aka a new Doctor Who ep so thoughts on Lux under the cut.

Today’s plan! Start The zresidence, have another root around for my glasses, watch Shoto’s spooky stream, Grace and then a Wendigoon vid (and maybe more who knows?) I also wanna see if fic brain will work and read the Stranger Things comic that came the other week but I was too stressed to read.
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
The last few days have continued to be very low energy. It’s so annoying cause it’s meant I’ve not done things that I wanted to do cause my focus has been so off (namely, watch stuff, fic and game).

I did start a game on game pass the other night, a puzzle game called Blue Prince, but damn. It is very much a luck based game. The goal is to get to a certain room in a house and every door you pass through lets you ‘draft’ a room from a selection of three random ones. Each room is different from bedrooms, to corridors, even a pool and, if you have bad luck, all your options are dead ends. I thought I did well last night with it, I got to the room but couldn’t get in…. Because you need to find certain rooms to open the doors of the room. That seems like an infuriating decision especially when you’ve no choice over the rooms you get.

Yesterday I was waiting for a package that meant to come between 7;34-11:34 but did it arrive at those times? Nope. In fact it didn’t arrive at all which is so annoying but feels… typical.

While waiting I did end up reading (and finishing) The Mystery Of Three Quarters. I ended up reading the last 15 chapters over the course of the afternoon. It was pretty good. I ended up really sympathising with Annabel and wanted to give her a hug (and her pupper too).

Next I might get back to Flight Of Icarus (I only read three quarters next cause it was a library book mum bought back) then do this months read Christie book.

Yesterday’s main thing was that Doctor Who is back! So thoughts on The Robot Revolution under the cut.

After Who I ended up watching a few things and being on Fortnite then I dozed off downstairs. However when I went up I was restless and just couldn’t settle which …. Ugh.

And then today the first of the new payments was meant to go in but it’s not. And now I’m just stressing over that.is it late cause it’s the first payment? Cause it’s Sunday? Or has been some mistake, either on their end or did I make a mistake in my bank details? It’s so stressful and I’m trying to put it out of my mind (cause I can’t do anything) but I have sent a message to them. Hopefully a reply comes back. (Or better yet it’s resolved before then.)
shadowhive: (3rd Who's there?)
So after the post yesterday I did end up watching Inferno, to finish season 7 of Doctor Who (which I wanted to do before the new series started).

Inferno is the last ep of season 7 and its main story is about a drilling project that brings up a mysterious green goo. This ooze turns anyone that comes into contact with it into monsters called primords (though that name isn’t actually uttered) who attack others to kill and spread it. The lead scientist of the project wants to keep drilling regardless of the warnings before eventually being infected himself.

About halfway through a secondary story comes in. The doctor ends up in an alternate version of the earth where the project is further along so he sees what happens if the drilling isn’t stop (the end of the world!). But also this world is also populated by alternate versions of everyone. The Brigadier (here Brigade Leader), Liz, Benton and the guest cast are all part of a fascist regime. It’s basically like the Star Trek mirror universe (the Brigade Leader even has an eye patch!).

That second thread is an interesting concept because we often see situations where the doctor is like ‘you have to stop doing this thing because x bad thing will happen’ whereas here we get to actually see it. It’s an interesting concept but, much like the Silurian plague thread in the Silurians, feels like it’s there to bulk out the story. (Which, from the making of, is exactly what it was)

That being said it’s a pretty good ep, especially when the other universe side gets going. It’s clear everyone enjoyed getting a chance to play bad guys.as well as their usual selves. The guest cast also clearly had fun doing double duty too. It’s just a shame the primords are a bit… eh. Like at the start it’s just people that are green and then by the end they look more like werewolves. But others it’s pretty good, though like the rest it’s length is what makes it suffer

Overall though I think season 7 was a good season, but its main flaw lies in 3 of the 4 stories being 7 parts long. I think it’s especially noticeable how much of a problem the lengths are after Spearhead was 4 parts and was well told. Like if those other eps were just a little shorter there could have been a whole other 4 part story there.

(And it’s especially a shame there’s only one season with Liz and that he last ep doesn’t even have her leaving.)

I am wondering what the next boxset will be. Will it be one of the last two fourth Doctor ones or the last fifth Doctor one?

After that I watched something with mum though I wasn’t focussed on it, then I watched the special features on the Inferno disc (a making of and behind the sofa). I have disc switched to watch the Inferno second disc’s special features so might do that tonight depending on energy.

I’m hoping that my social battery and creative energy is gonna be better over the coming days (and energy in general).

Today I managed to watch Moana 2 on Disney+. I had been a bit worried cause if what people said, how it was meant to be a series and had been truncated down to a film. It isn’t quite as noticeable as I expected. There are a few scenes that you can tell would be ‘end of episode scenes’ and some of the new characters (Moana’s journey this time has a crew) clearly would behave got development if it was a show. But it was pretty good overall.

It does seem that there’s gonna be a follow up (some things don’t get resolved and there’s a sequel hook in the credits) so I just hope that the next one is just developed as a show or film instead of switching party way through.
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
So it’s been a little while since the last post.

Sunday night I decided I wanted to watch something, so I watched the scant Ambassadors Of Death special features I decided to watch a film. I was gonna watch Gods Of The Deep, something I’d seen on Amazon prime a few months back, but alas it was gone in the intervening time.

So I decided to see what Longlegs was like but I managed only 12 minutes before deciding that, nope I wasn’t feeling it. I dunno why but I just didn’t vibe with it. Instead I watched but on Lore, which was an anthology film that just came out last year. It had four people telling ‘scary stories’ around a camp fire and the result was four wildly different stories. It was entertaining enough (especially since the first had a guy from Primeval and the third had Rufus Hound as a creep) but I loved how the tones between there were kinda wildly varied. The first two played more serious while the second two kinda went off the rails.

(For context they are: 1- a guy getting chased by criminals ends up in a warehouse, where a monster stalks them. 2- a mother and son move into a house and there’s a haunted music player. 3- a man is going to sleep with another woman but it turns into an occult ritual, 4- a midnight cinema screening turns into a slasher film)

Then I decided to watch. The first Video Nasty episode and it was… ok. Like it didn’t feel like how I thought it was going to go and I was ready to check out of it until the last scene had two people in plague Doctor outfits attacking someone. Like that concept I’m down for, but the rest felt a bit… eh. I might see what ep 2 is like and if it builds on that last scene it’ll be interesting but I’m not too hopefully.

Sunday ended up being… ugh. Around lunchtime one of my headaches started and it was pretty bad which was annoying cause it was a DND day so I was more checked out then I would be. Unfortunately the headaches lingered a few days, on and off but very annoying.

Monday and Tuesday were the last No Dice eps which were pretty good (and the immovable rod came in clutch again who would’ve thought it would be so useful?) though it’s so sad it’s the last one. I really hope they do more dnd cause they clearly all enjoy it (and Owen is a really great dm) It’s also a bit sad it ended on an inconclusive note too. Like there was a last scene right at the end where the party was given a choice and they split into two groups over it which made complete sense in character and resulted in a complete impasse. (They could undo the damage done by the big bad, but as a result they would lose all their memories as to what happened.) But like I said it made sense for everyone in character to have opposing views and not budging (plus it had overrun already so was quite late). I did start a little thing based on it so we’ll see if I feel it’s good enough to post.

Tuesday I ended up listening a Doctor Who audio which was Dead Media where the 12th doctor was hosting a podcast (obviously about an alien encounter). It was really fun and the guy who played the doctor was really great at it so I’d definitely recommend it for anyone it that likes 12.

The bulk of the Sumerian music order came that afternoon so now I have Paradise City to watch (so maybe I need to find American Satan but I can’t seem to find a release anywhere, anyone know where it can be found?) and I spend yesterday ripping all the cds, putting them on the pod thing so I could listen to them today. I have to admit I really enjoyed House On Fire’s art and the tarot style stickers with it. (And there’s the vinyls though I didn’t even get to see them before they were squirrelled away with the rest.)

(Also ugh the government seems run by such soulless pricks it pisses me off but I’m containing anger from here)

Today was a trip to pick mum’s meds up and ugh, of course it decided to go insanely warm. Like by the end of it sweat was dripping off me which, ugh. Thankfully mum’s meds were there (and Naryu’s flea/worming treatments) and I picked up a few things. Some cheap Lego sets, a copy of the odyssey, a Pokémon book and Star Wars art thing. But ugh it was so exhausting due to the heat.

Also there were so many cute lil Guinea pigs and I love them all so much.

When I got back the Doctor Who magazine came which I did read some of and the new episodes sound like they’ll be really great! Lux even has hand drawn animation so that’s fun! I am really puzzled that the Savages (which came today too) has a 90 minute making of. Most making of’s are between 20-45 minutes (and I think the most are an hour long) and I’m just puzzled how a first doctor episode (where, sadly, most people involved have passed) can be so long.

There was also a nintendo direct thing today which did have a few pretty fun looking games, but I feel the last reveal, a new Tomodatchi life after about 10 years, is gonna be the main focus. (And also with the switch 2 direct next week too it kinda felt that exciting things will be there)

Anyway now I’m gonna flop a bit cause I still feel so exhausted. Though I might go on Superliminal later, which I started last night and is a pretty intruiging puzzle game though it can be tricky.

I’m sure I missed something obvious I wanted to mention, which will come to mind later no doubt (or maybe not at all)
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
It’s time for another post that is a mix of things.

First off after the stress of the past weeks the last thing I need is one more and yesterday bought more. I’ve got to go in for another appointment in town and it just feels both annoying and pointless. I sent a message asking about it being a call which I had before, due to the stress, but apparently cause of the transfer the first one has to be in person.

(It also doesn’t help that log in to check messages is dependant on phones, which I always forget to charge so caused extra stress when I got the message and couldn’t check)

The timing isn’t ideal either: it’s on what would be on a food delivery and it’s mums library siting so she’d not be able to come (which she’d insist on and I’ve not told her yet about it at all) I could ask to change the time but I honestly can’t be bothered with the extra hassle (and at least the reply I did get put my mind slightly at ease that I won’t be forced into anything).

But still needless stress that’s just gonna be annoying. Maybe I can make use of the daysaver to do something else but… I dunno. Last time I just wanted to come straight home.

Better things, an eBay order came yesterday too so the books I had ordered came. They’re another set of four from the Agatha Christie partwork I mentioned before so now the total is 30 of the 85 they did.

Also yesterday I managed to get the spark of creativity back so I actualy finished something so hopefully that’s a sign I can work on more stuff. Hopefully I can finish the last of the 5 fics I set for myself post Christmas then switch between WIPs I had and the prompt table stuff.

Last night was also Comic Relief and I’m not sure if anyone else watched but it felt extremely… lacklustre. Only the Not Going Out/Beyond Paradise crossover was really good (the strictly thing was ok though) and we ended up stopping watching at about 9:30. (Right after they replayed the awesome Mamma Mia spoof trailer they did a few years back).

I had hoped to watch something last night but my eyes were achy (possibly from stress, possibly from my low mood lately) so instead of watching anything on tv I listened to a new Magnus Protocol, then put the next Wendigoon cryptid vid I had to watch (damn missing the cool tee he had) and then just laying.

This morning I woke really early, again possibly causa stressing. I watched the new Seapeekay video, about the new smp he’s in Misadventures which was fun. He’s not beating the alcoholic allegations of his characters (as he passed out drunk and got a house right across from the tavern) and he called no less than three men handsome. But it was fun and I’m curious how it’ll go.

We took Naryu for a longer walk and saw that there was a huge amount of frogspawn, as well as two frogs near some (so I assume one or both were parents). Alas I didn’t have anything to take a pic which often happens with this stuff.

When back I put on the new of the Who ray eps, Ambassadors Of Death. As mentioned I had no really memory of it and it was clear to see why. It is a tad… messy. I think the most blatant example of this is that the titular ambassadors get taken by one group to a lab, then they get kidnapped and taken to another lab. The reason that feels messy? Both labs are headed (albeit the second in secret) by the same person.

But you have to admire the optimism of the central concept, that Britain not only has a space command centre (in a base that looks impressive and the entrance of which instantly made me think of the one of Stargate SG-1’s base) but that we have sent a manned mission to Mars. And more than one! You have to admire the optimism of the piece (while at the same time being immensely sad about how it hasn’t come to pass at all)

And you have to admire the ambition of the piece too. The space probe (both as a model and on set) look great and you have to admire the scale. Like at one point the probe is stolen from a convoy and there’s a helicopter involved! And I’m curious for the making of to see where the exterior parts were filmed.

Liz again gets to be sciencey and while she is kidnapped she doesn’t go quietly (and manages to orchestrate her own escape! It fails as she’s caught soon after but still). Again it’s such a shame she’s only in one more ep.

Also it’s so odd seeing the tardis console just… sat in a living room which is such an odd image but gives some laughs. And speaking of laughs the title thing for the eps is so funny with The Ambassadors showing first then ‘of death’ coming with a sting. And speaking of the ambassadors I did feel so sorry for them being used like they were. They just came to make peace and were utterly screwed over (we don’t even learn their species name).

Next time is Inferno which is the last ep of the set already which is a shame. 4 story seasons always feel much too short.

Once I finished I went back to reading Three Act Tragedy which I finished. (Cutting in case anyone else is doing the reading challenge, thoug I’m not revealing anything too major)

The next book in the readchristie list is The Seven Dials Mystery and I have no idea what to expect from it. It’s not a Poirot or Marple and I’m not sure if it’s even been adapted before. So that means I’m truly going in blind which is gonna be interesting.

(Though I’ll likely go back to Flight Of Icarus first)

Tonight’s plan is to watch the musical thing on bbc 1, which has just started as I made this post, while also watching Seapeekay’s stream and doing Fortnite on the switch. And I wanna see if I can fic some more too.

I do wanna watch a film like I planned last night but I didn’t have anything specific in mind (maybe something on Amazon prime?) but maybe I’ll watch Ambassadors of death’s special features instead cause there’s only three and so could be watched in one go.
shadowhive: (Lothcat Sleepy)
The last few days have ended up being low energy again which has been annoying, as there’s been intent to do certain things but the will has gone.

First a follow up to the last post. The books did arrive (along with tees from zavvi and dungeons and dragons adventurer) though instead of between 8:45-12:45 they arrived at…. Just before 6pm which was crazy.

My cousin did call the other day and seemed to have realised he’d needlessly caused panic (I’m guessing he’d talked to a doctor/specialist in between) so has offered to have us round this weekend which… I don’t think either of us particularly want (I know I dont’t.) so it remains to be seen what’ll happen there. The whole thing is just… baffling. Why wait so long after we got tested to get tested themselves? And why the sudden care for me when they sure as hell never have before?

Mum said she’d handle the call Friday which I assumed meant she’d cancel it but nope. I still had to deal with it and I didn’t have the focus to bring up things I intended to. But even if I had needed testing it felt pointless cause all she said was ‘oh if you’d need it you’d have to go through them (the people that tested mum) not us’ so the whole thing would have been pointless.

Saturday was a lil tabletop thing up the road so we went up and ended up spending £2 on 7 books (including two veggie cookbooks, one about ancient Egypt, The Iliad and two Stephen kings) and a £2 boxset of parks and recreation season 1-3.

When we got back I watched the next of the Who ray eps which was The Silurians. I usually watch the eps at night but I think for the longer ones (The Silurians is 7 parts long) daytime watching might be better.

Silurians are probably one of my fav races because the concept, an intelligent race that inhabited earth before humans, is just such an interesting one. (I will always maintain we need episodes set in the future with Silurians and humans working together.)

This first ep with them takes awhile for them to show up, but I think that works in their favour and it gives a chance to set up the nuclear facility as a setting as well as the people there. It also sets a few lines going as there’s power drains and things going wrong, along with an evidence of a saboteur but there’s also something in the caves.

When the Silurians do show up (and the doctor asks one point blank if they are a Silurian which they respond with a nod) it introduces the central dilemma of the whole thing. Silurians see themselves as the ‘rightful rulers’ of the planet and humans as pesky apes. Whereas humans see the Silurians either as a threat or something to exploit for their knowledge. The Doctor tries to broker peace and almost succeeds until one of the Silurians turns on his leader, launches a plague and kills him. And then it ends on such a sad note…

As an ep it gives everyone stuff to do, Liz gets to do some more science, the doctor goes off exploring and the brigadier… is the brigadier. Plus Bessie is introduced!

I feel it does suffer, as all of the longer parted stories, with being too long. The plague is introduced in part 5 and feels clearly there to extend the story (I’ve not watched the special features yet, maybe tonight but that seems to be the case). On the one hand at least it’s not padding in how other eps were (which tends to be getting captured, escaping, getting captured again) and it does resonate more now after the pandemic with how people recklessly broke qua native and pretended it wasn’t happening despite having visual symptoms.

However on the other hand it’s something that feels like it deserved its own thing. I mean this plague gets to London, it’s mentioned of getting outside the country, you see people collapsing from it at train stations. And yet it feels it’s both resolved too quickly and forgotten about. Like yes the doctor is able to find the cure and it does get relayed to be distributed but even so it does feel like the damage is done by that point.

Next time is the Ambassadors Of Death which, as I’ve mentioned before, I’ve pretty much forgotten. Is that good or bad? Stay tuned to find out.

Yesterday was a mix of watching various things. There was the finale of Towards Zero which felt the best of the three parts, probably because it was the resolution of the whole thing. It’s not a spoiler to say that the whole thing is about how much of a prick Neville is (that’s clear from the opening ep) but damn he just gets worse every time.

Then there was High Potential which is good and seems to be pushing along the mystery of Morgan’s missing ex as well as the ep’s own murder. Then there was a War Of The Worlds thing about life on Mars which was pretty interesting. The show is coming to Bidrmingham but damn th tickets are so much. It’s a shame cause the war machine they have for it looks so damn impressive.

In the night there was the next No dice and while my focus was off towards the start it ended with Owen playing an unsettling Naga that the party had stumbled on. Plus I love that Zee and Martin seem to have a thing going on. Did they more than just sleep together a few nights prior? Only Zee knows for sure.(even the audience don’t as Owen dm’d it to Krow instead of saying it). But the image of an Aasamir and a goblin is so…

Other things the past few days.
*I read more Three Act Tragedy though didn’t on the weekend cause of other things and lack of focus.
*I started the Wendigoon cryptid iceberg (my first vid with him) and damn I just love cryptids so much. I’ve watched the first two and might watch a third tonight.
*One of my games, Star Wars hunters, announced its ending and I’m so sad cause it was so fun and different and it’s just frustrating.
*Found out there’s a Sumerian records spring blow out so may get some stuff from that

Plans this week
*See what the Sleep Token Rock Sound thing is
*Silurians special features (and maybe Ambassadors Of Death)
*Tubbathon - No Dice, Twitchmaster (at least)
*new tv stuff (new series of the Marlowe Murder Club and Madame blanc mysteries)
*Read more Three Act Tragedy
*We’re meant to have a town/Iceland trip tomorrow which I’m not too keen on but…
*Fic, I am determined to finish something this week which I always say but
*finish watching the Wendigoon cryptid iceberg stuff

I’m 100% sure I’m missing something (and something obivious too) but I can’t think what it is.
shadowhive: (3rd Who's there?)
So as mentioned in the post before last, mum’s friend came yesterday. However I didn’t need to go to town as the ‘big thing’ she wanted wasn’t in stock which was a relief. She did get us to ask if it would be back in stock and left money in case it would be, but personally I’m doubtful.

She did also bring me something, three Poirot dvds. They’re from different seasons of the show, one has four of the hour long episodes, 1 has a two hour one and the last has two 2 hour ones. Oddly the back of them has the same general blurb about the show instead of giving any info on the episodes themselves which feels like an odd choice. Still two are recognisable: Death In The Clouds is the solo ep and Five Little Pigs is on the double one.

After she left we talk Naryu for another walk around the park. There has been building work on one (which hasn’t helped my recent headaches) though it has finished now. They built a basketball court which I thought was a dubious choice, however yesterday kids were playing basketball on it (despite having to climb over the fences which were still up!) so I guess it will be used. More worryingly though was there was a kid who had climbed up onto one of the hoops and honestly I was worried he’d fall, especially when he climbed over the top of it. Hopefully kids don’t decide to follow his lead as I fear if so it’ll only be a matter of time before someone doing it falls.

When we got back I did end up starting the Doctor Who season 7 box set (thoughts below) so maybe for this run it’ll be afternoon instead of night showings.

I’ve not watched too much of the Tubbathon the last days. Watch box felt entertaining at first (it’s like big brother with streamers) but quickly it’s descended into bitchiness and feels like a popularity contest, with people doomed before it even started. It’s a shame cause the first night was entertaining but the rest? Not so much.

Today was Dungeons and Dodongos and I decided to use the laptop for it which was fine… until discord decided to completely crash and then update which was so annoying. It feels every time I try and use the laptop for it it pulls some annoying thing like that.

I did have my eye on a few Agatha Christie collections of the partwork from over 20 years ago, which are nice hardcover copies. I’ve already had two lots now and tried to get a few more today though only succeeded in getting one (I lost most in the last 30 seconds so there was no chance to outbid them). At least this one has both the first and last Poirot book, as well as Murder On The Orient Express.

The plus side on missing out. I got some things from zavvi with the money I’d have used. Namely a set of tees, mostly for a Hlelfire Club tee and more Stranger Things funko cause I have a problem (I need a Vecna and Will though).

Tonight’s plan is to finish the Spearhead From Space special features and maybe fic, but we’ll see. Then tomorrow it’s head out to home bargains to get a few bits and then? I dunno.

****

So like I mentioned I started Season 7, which is Spearhead From Space. Spearhead has a lot to do: it’s the first episode with a new doctor, the first episode in colour and the first episode with the Doctor’s exile on earth. As well as that there’s new enemies and a new companion too. (And also the show almost ended before this ep and only came back when they couldn’t find a show to replace it)

Having said all of that it does succeed really well. First the Third Doctor gets a lot to do, he manages to escape from auton captors, then from the hospital, he gets to be cunning and charming as well as smart. Honestly the third doctor might be my fav of the classic doctors. I often say it’s between him and the fourth but the third feels more consistent if that makes sense.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Liz’s episodes and this one instantly reminded me of just how good she is. From the opening interview with the brigadier to her first meeting with the doctor in the lab and then them going off investigating together she’s such a great character. It’s a shame she’s only in this one season and doesn’t get a proper departure.

Then there’s the Brigadier who I just love his attitude. (Though UNIT’s outfits this ep? Not so much.) one thing that really stood out is how his superior officer made some quip about Liz being a ‘pretty face’ and he was quick to say that isn’t all she is.

And then there’s the autons in this ep, which is just such a terrifying concept. Shop window dummies coming to life, with guns in their hands, walking down the street shooting people. It’s just a classic image. And the fact they can also disguise themselves as other people too, looking almost perfect (if slightly shiny). The Nestene though…. Let’s be honest the sight of it in a tank it looks like something else entirely. Of course I appreciated the tentacles though felt more like a sudden addition than a proper threat.

But again there’s a lot to love. The whole premise is such a great one, the nestene coming by asteroids in formation, the scenes at the hospital (filmed at an actual bbc location due to strikes), the whole creepy vibe of the autons and the factory (and the plastic ‘waxworks’). It’s all such a great ep.i think it helps being just a four parter so it’s not overly long too.

The next time is The Silurians, which I’m curious to watch again, then Ambassador’s Of Death (which I’ve completely forgotten) and Inferno, as well as all the special features which I always love to watch.

A few days late on posting this but…

First let’s start with the things I did which is something for most things this time! Most things I’ve made individual posts about such as Ghostbusters - Frozen Empire (which I really enjoyed),:ABC Murders (a pretty good read), High Potential (really great and fun), Horros Greatest (which made me wanna watch more j-horro) and Stranger Things (which I have had MANY thoughts over).

Things I’ve not mentioned, or mentioned as much is Selene’s second story arc The Doll Hospital which… I dunno it didn’t really click with me. Maybe it was the content of the piece but I think it was more the doll part wasn’t really used all that well despite being in the title? Likewise The Rig season 2 didn’t feel as good as the first one. Like it started strong but it ended up with a bigger focus on corporate politicking.

Then there’s the audio I listened to Tropical Beach a sounds And Other Relaxing Seascapes #4 which ended up being so great. It was about a self help tape which was possessed so you had the voice of Micheal Palin being all sinister throughout. And damn there were some killer lines, like how did he make ‘you will get your biscuits’ sound so sinister? As well as talk about sexual assignations and Ianto having ‘nothing to be ashamed off’. Such a wild time.

Also with reading I did start two other books, Flight Of Icarus and The Thirteen Problems and the later I’ve continued to work on already this month and the former I might soon too.

Alas sickness and stress ruined my focus for this month so there’s not been a fic posted. There were a few times I got inspired and did write, but then the following day or days killed inspiration which really sucks. I hope to get back to writing when my head eases but ugh.

I did hope to read a graphic novel too before the month ended but couldn’t find the focus.

I had hoped to see something at the cinema but between a lack of energy, money and bad timing I just didn’t.

***

Second part of the post is about the new Doctor Who trailer which released Sunday night.

The new season (it still feels so wrong calling it season 2) looked good from the teaser at christmas but this one makes it look even better. I mean there’s so much in the trailer that I’m really curious about and Belinda is giving me Tegan energy with her demanding to be taken home.

The four main things I’m curious about:
*That Giant skeleton of… something, I wanna know what its deal is
*The episode with Mr Ring-a-Ding (the animated character that comes out of the screen) which looks really good
*The creepy thing that Ruby (I’m assuming it’s her) says ‘wants you scared’ because it ‘likes the taste’
*The Interstellar Song Contest, because how could I not love that as a concept?

Also Who related but the Doctor Who season 7 boxset arrived Monday, yipee! Though as mentioned before it’s timing is terrible because as much as I really want to watch this month is the worst for watching stuff causa the Tubbathon. Hopefully I can work in at least starting it sometime but who knows when.

Speaking of the Tubbathon it’s been really great so far. No Dice is a highlight, though the end of the first session definitely caused Owen have to change things (damnit Sloevi😭) and Twitch Master on Monday night was so fun (Freddie was so horny for Tubbo and his painting was so unhinged) so I’m curious how the rest ones. The next main event is tomorrow with Watch Box which is billed as being like big brother and has Seapeekay and Piso so will be… something.

Yesterday was a library day cause and I ended up reading some of my Who magazines and the second of The Thirteen Problems (which I really liked and figured out just before Marple said the solution). And ahh we got a visit from puppies which were so cute!

Now I’m gonna flop and maybe do some more reading (either The Thirteen Problems or the season 7 booklet) and then tonight is a big question mark. Maybe I’ll watch another Stranger Things but we’ll see.

Challenge #3

In your own space, talk about a fannish opinion you hold that has changed over time. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I had meant to answer this yesterday but my focus has kinda been off yesterday and I couldn’t really think of anything.

One that has come to mind since is Doctor Who related, specifically classic Who.

I came into classic Who in a rather haphazard way, s I mentioned in one of the other days my first one was The Five Doctors and then I went from there. I ended up getting all the dvds but the trouble with them was that (bar a rare few boxsets with episodes following each other) they came out in a completely random order so that’s how I got them in a random order. That made for a strange watching experience, one time you’d get a third doctor ep with Jo the next could be a seventh doctor and Mel or a Fourth and Leela. Thankfully most stories are self contained (and ones that weren’t were released together in boxsets). And speaking of boxsets some of them made sense, being interconnected episodes or ones about specific things (the Silurian or sontaran boxsets) whereas others were completely random (I’m looking at you Earth Story).

Anyway! My point is that you’d be dropped in randomly and it wasn’t exactly the rest way to watch. It also meant I quickly came to dislike certain doctors and companions.

A few years ago Doctor Who decided that it was gonna release classic who as blu ray boxsets, so instead of being random releases these would be full seasons. Of course there’s still a random element to it, as the boxsets are released in random orders but at least you get full context on things. (And the boxsets are made with such love there’s so many amazing and fun special features as well as some truly touching documentaries about people involved in the show.)

But watching the show like this has made my opinions on certain doctors and companions change. I’ve found I like the ones I didn’t more and I do feel that some have been kinda… screwed over by their episodes or behind the scenes stuff (im looking at you Sixth Doctor).

Wow that ended up being a longer ramble than I expected I was gonna try and think of another thing but that kinda feels enough?

***

Lil bit of non-snowflake stuff (cause I don’t feel like making a separate post).

I ended up listening to some Magnus Protocol stuff the other morning and then it had the first episode of Selene on the playlist so now I’m intrigued by that. Ie died up listening to the second ep this morning and it’s all about the mystery of a black pond and a body that’s been found in it. Of course it’s being intentionally vague right now about the identity of said body. Is it from someone that fell in? A ladies missing peacock? Or has it been there for awhile? But I’m definitely intruiged and wanna know. It helps that the narrrator for it has a nice voice too.

Mum’s friend came Saturday and thankfully it wasn’t stressful. She did bring us belated presents and usually she’s not great at getting me stuff (tothe point she now gives mum money towards Lego) but this time, as well as some stuff that was eh, there was actually a nice thing! She went to Agatha Christie’s house and got me a book from there, a copy of Hallowe’en Party and the cover is so nice and pretty. Here’s a pic and the gold leaves are so shiny which isn’t picked up in it.

I found out there was an Agatha Christie reading challenge thing on her website cause it’s 100 years since her first story was published. There’s one book a month and the list is here. I’ve got three of the stories so I’m gonna try and read them and see if I can get the others as I go. Hopefully this encourages me to actually read at least one book a month!

Mum had got two new years things (I think on impulse and cause of the biopsy) and one of them was Sleep Token’s album Sundowning (yipee!) and the other was an Agatha Christie collection that has one of those three stories, which came today.

Biopsy is still a bit painful when I move, stretch or laugh. The dressing has been taken off now and the scar is about four inches which is bigger than I expected so not wonder it hurts.

I’ve been trying to finish some in game events to mixed success. Dead By Daylight has gone well (and given me an excuse to play as Steve some more) but Elder Scrolls Online has been annoying (cause some challenges are hard and the level one doesn’t work for those at max level) and Marvel Rivals seems odd (there doesn’t seem to be a mission with the last reward you need). I gave up on ESO which is annoying cause the final reward is cool but I hope to finish Dead By Daylight’s tonight.

This week I’m also hoping to get back to watching stuff. I wanna start the second seaon of The Rig (I’d have done it sooner but the events distracted me), start the third season of Stranger Things and watch Tarot at last. And get back to the DS9 run I was doing too, though I have to fully Netflix that now.

Will we be going to see Better Man this week like mum wanted? I dunno, mostly cause the weather has turned and we’ve had rain and snow so we’re a bit wary (and also mum seems to constantly going back and forth on it anyway) so I guess we’ll see.

Anyway I’m gonna bundle with Midna, have lunch, maybe Lego build and hopefully fic some.
shadowhive: (15 Hot)
So it’s another post time, oops!

Yesterday I finished building the four droids and ahh! I love them so many they’re so cute and smol and adorable. They’re all the same basic construction, bar Chopper who threw me off a bit cause his was different (he’s slightly smaller and his legs are mismatched). And I love the variety of accessories between them, even though some do look silly. I dunno which my fav is though they all look so cute!

I took some pics as I was building them but I’ll take more tomorrow and post them on insta, maybe tomorrow before Sonic 3.

Last night was the double bill of Do tor Who and Wallace And Gromit so it’s time for thoughts of them.

First it was Who with Joy To The World. My thoughts are a bit… mixed.

The setting of the time hotel is a good one, and it could easily have been an episode just full of hijinks (which the original script apparently was and it’s a shame it wasn’t). However once the star seed is bought in (and ugh it turned into what people theorised) that side felt a bit… last minute added on. Which, again, according to Who magazine it kinda was?

Another odd thing was the episode’s main quest ‘companion’, Joy, isn’t in it as much as you’d think. (And all the characters that were marketed for it only really appear at the start.) Also there was this odd thing where the doctor spends a year in a hotel with Anita, which would’ve been a nice set up for her to be a companion but instead she gets abandoned which felt a shame.

There were good parts though! Ncuti was such a good Doctor and he’s great whenever he’s on screen. I really liked seeing a Silurian in a random ep (please more of that!) and like I said, the whole concept was nice. And damn, the scene where the doctor is cruel to Joy with her being angry about lockdown and the parties… that hit so close.

But yeah it just… didn’t feel quite right to me sadly. There was a trailer though which felt short, but Mrs Flood is back! And what looks like Skaro! And the companion is giving me Tegan vibes! But the best shot is a cartoon thing coming out of a screen. I’m super into that.

Then there was Wallace And Gromit, Vengeance Most Fowl.

My words for you if you’ve not seen it? Watch it. Watch it now. If you have the slightest interest or liking of Wallace And Gromit, watch it. Because it’s so fun.

I’m not gonna go into too much spoilers in case anyone hasn’t (it should be on iplayer and Netflix get it soon) but ahh! It’s so funny! The sight gags! The punny names! The boat chase! The cameo! And, of course, one of the greatest villains is back in the form of Feathers McGraw.

Honestly it’s so fun I might have to watch it again myself. (Though I do wanna give Gromita hug, he is so long suffering and deserves the world.)

Today I watched Skeleton Crew which was a lot of fun (and damn that ending!). If I had a pound for every Disney princess that showed up in Star Wars as a bounty Hunter I’d have £2 which isn’t a lot but it’s strange it’s happened twice. (Please Pokkit show up more in the series!)

Then I spent today making the second Lego set I got, the desert skiff and sarlacc. The sarlacc is quite impressive, taking up 4 of the 6 bags and it’s bigger than I expected. The skiff is nice too, though I wish the clear stand was a bit taller so it could be properly posed with the sarlacc (or there was a connection point on it) and it would’ve been nice if there was a skiff guard. But other than that? They both look great!

Now I’m bundling with Midna and watching stuff, before sonic tomorrow.
shadowhive: (2nd + 3rd A dandy and a clown)
So thankfully I am feeling much better, I’m probably about 75-85% better. I’m still a little drained and tired, but I’m able to eat again and have walked Naryu twice now.

I did consider if I was well enough to see Sonic 3 today but decided against it. If I wasn’t going alone I might have done, but alone? I didn’t wanna risk it. Plus it would’ve been so peoplely and I’m not sure I could have handled that. (And both Leia and Naryu were determined to keep me in bed!). Thankfully it’s being shown at the cinema from Friday at 1:30 so I should be able to see it before the biopsy (which’ll probably render me inactive)

One annoyance from the sickness is I’d hoped to do some ficcing (I’d four fics I hoped to work on and I expected to get two done) but alas I’ve stalled due to being drained and Christmas will no doubt distract me. Bah. Same for watching stuff. I’d hoped to finish Stranger Things season 2 and watch Tarot but… again nup. Hopefully before the year is out.

Anyway today I ended up watching a few films, though I zoned out for ghostbusters, and then watched the top of the pops 98 Christmas special cause it was on bbc4 and that was… a wild experience, but it also makes me feel so ancient. There was a wild run of songs going from Angels, to C’est La Vie and then Horny, followed by the reminder that Chef from South Park was number 2 in the charts that year. Crazy times.

Tomorrow is gonna be another draining day. We have to pic up a Christmas food shop so we’re going at Sainsbury's and aldis (at the horrendous hour of 6:30) so that’ll be draining and I’m not looking forward to that.

Then there’s a run of 6 things on tv in the afternoon/night (White Christmas, Doctor Who proms, Ghostbusters Afterlife, Bake Off Christmas special, Madame Blanc Christmas Special and the new ghost story for Christmas).

Then it’s Christmas itself which isn’t gonna be special but at least there’s the Doctor Who special and the new Wallace And Gromit! Both which look really good. (There was a thing about Aardman on tv the other day from years back which was really good).

But speaking of Who…

***

There’s been some new Who things lately but sickness has meant I’ve not posted about them.

First there’s a new animation been announced, this one for The Savages which is Steven’s last episode. I didn’t even know that until the announcement post. Honestly I know absolutely nothing about this episode so that makes me real curious.

Also announced was the next blu ray collection! I suspected it’d be a third doctor one and it is! It’s season 7! That seems like a good choice after tonight’s showing of The War Games. It’s like the last boxset, only four stories but I’m looking forward to seeing them again. Ambassadors Of Death is one I’m curious to rewatch cause I’ve no real memories of it, while the rest I remember more clearly.

And I just know the special features will give me feels again.

Lastly there’s tonight’s thing, the aforementioned The War Games in colour. Someone in the comments of the Doctor Who twitter made a good point, ‘if you want to make an old story 90 minutes why not do it with episodes that’s close to that length’. And they have a point. While there’s a lot of long episodes in the second and third Doctor eras there are still some four parters that could be made into 90 minutes very easily (just cutting the opening and closing titles and recaps would do that). But I digress.

It’s been forever since I’ve seen the full length version which meant I went in pretty blind. Obviously it’s been trimmed down a lot though. The original is 10 parts and this version works out at being the length of 4. That’s a lot of stuff that’s been cut! At times it does feel like there’s not much more to breathe, that is a bit of a rush. But since I’ve not seen the original in so long it’s hard for me to say what’s actually been lost.

But personally, I think they’ve done a good job with it, it feels better than the daleks in colour from last year and it feels like it tells the main story well. (Of course with so much gone comparing the two will probably reveal too much was cut, which I’ll definitely concede.)

I will say that whatever you may think about the length (or the noticeable additions, more on that later) that the colourisation team have done a fantastic job. The work they have done is amazing and I loved seeing the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe in full colour. (And they’re such a fantastic team together, I really do love them all).

The story as a whole still works pretty well and there’s both likeable characters and despicable ones but they’re all played really well.

Now I did mention there’s some additions which are very noticeable that they couldn’t be missed. There’s been new exterior shots of Gallifrey, based on the new series depiction of it which I don’t really mind. However there’s two things that are gonna be really controversial. First there’s the addition of the Simms era master music when the war chief is on screen, which heavily implies that he is the Master. No doubt that has been a fan theory before, they do share similar traits but this seems to take that theory as fact now.

The second one is when the second doctor is shown other faces he’s instead shown obvious promo photos of 12, 10, 11 and 13. This was something I didn’t like and I feel others won’t either. Maybe it would’ve been fine if it was just one of them but four?

But overall I did think it was a good adaption. I’m curious if they’ll do a colourisation of something else for next year too (I suspect a cyberman or ice warrior ep, though hopefully it’ll be a four episode thing instead of a long one).

Anyway I’m gonna bundle up with the baby girl (Midna, she’s curled on my lap), mayeb try and fic or just plain snooze.

I hope everyone has a stress free festive time (or regular week).

My brain is still feeling hazy these past few days. I think part of it is at least anxiety induced but it’s just so annoying. It’s meant my focus has been more off than I’d have liked which… ugh.

It hasn’t helped that a few things have gone wrong. The net has died at least 3 times the past week, always at night and ranging from 20-40 minutes each time. I dunno if it’s cause of the storm (even though it hasn’t come as far as us) but ugh. Also the pad lead has decided to act up too, which is just another annoyance.

Mum’s friend came yesterday and that just added to the anxiety. Thankfully she didn’t want anything major, but I still used her pass to go to town. I was able to get a replacement pad lead (it charges so slow though but it’s better than nothing) and some stuff from Iceland. Smiths also had a cute fox plush but I exercised rare restraint and didn’t get it.

Even though I only spent about half an hour in town it was still draining so I just flopped a bit when I got back.

Good (ish) things though. I started Alan Wake II the other day and it’s been so good so far. It’s very much investigation base, reminding me a bit of a Sherlock Holmes game that was on Xbox games with gold awhile back. At least that’s how Saga’s parts plays, I’ve not done an Alan section. What did surprise me is the prologue because you start as a naked man who emerged from a lake only to get killed. And when I say naked, I mean it, you can see everything if the angle is right which is so wild.

I finished the Noroi special features over two nights too. There were 13 deleted scenes, most to do with a subplot about dogs, but also there were a few extra report sections. There was also two bonus promo features which were both wildly different and fun. And there was a few interviews with people which was intresting (especially how the producer also produced virtually ever j-horror film including Ring).

Yesterday Sleep Token confirmed that there’s pop up shops for the uk tour this week and I decided to look up where the Birmingham one is and… well it’s better if I show you. here is the map on what three words. The black box is where the pop up shop is. I assumed it would near to the venue, however the venue is on the left of the map (where the sea life centre is). So the shop is in the complete opposite direction of the venue from the station (in the middle) so I’m completed baffled why it’s so far away (and not only that but in backstreets too).

Thankfully the Birmingham date isn’t the first one so I should have some idea as to what there is and prices on Tuesday but ugh. I’m kinda exhausted a bit cause so much has gone wrong and I don’t have as much money to go with as I planned. Thankfully pics from the Europe leg hasn’t had anything too exciting but of course prices there and here are likely different.

But ugh I feel it’s gonna be stressful until I’m actually sat there.

***

Yesterday was also Doctor Who day and I wasn’t expecting any announcements or anything, but they did a surprise announcement of The Wars Games in colour! It’s gonna be on tv around Christmas and they’ve somehow cut it down to 90 minutes (the original is over 3 hours) which does make me worry abit. The cut down version of The Daleks was a bit too breezy in places and I suspect that’ll be the case here too. But we’ll see.

Also last night I felt it was fitting to finish the Season 25 boxset with the Greatest Show In The Galaxy.

It’s a pretty good ep and it’s fortuitous that they had it set at a circus. They filmed the location stuff first and when they got back to the studio they found asbestos had been found so they couldn’t film inside. Thankfully they were able to set a tent up and film inside that, which I think really lends to the atmosphere.

The clown is so creepy especially with his mannerisms and they had a good job nailing his look. The whole story does have a pretty good vibe to it design wise, you can feel that everyone did a good job especially under adversity. The ringmaster rapping is certainly a choice though. I’m curious whose idea it was (the making of doesn’t touch on it).

But yeah it’s a good ep overall (I’d probably have more thoughts if my head wasn’t so hazy). The season as a whole is pretty good, with only Silver Nemesis being a weak one which is a shame.

There’s one disc of special features left so I’m gonna watch them tonight then the boxset is done. I wonder which they’ll do next. I’m guessing it’ll be a third Doctor one, with his first and last ones being left to do so I’m curious which they’ll pick.

Now I’m gonna flop, think of questions for the last post, watch Brokenwood Mysteries and maybe fic. Or maybe nap.

So this weekend I continued the Who ray run with Silver Nemesis.

Silver Nemesis is the 25th anniversary special and it’s also a cyberman episode. But the problem is it’s not very good at being either.

In the anniversary front it’s kinda undermined by Remembrance Of The Daleks, since that featured both locations from the first Who episode, was set in the year it came out and, of course, featured the daleks. Nemesis, by contrast, doesn’t feel like an anniversary episode (bar the mention of a 25 year orbit).

As a cyberman episode, they’re undermined by not being the sole villain (instead sharing it with neo Nazi’s and Lady Peinforte) and their weakness to gold is taken to an almost ridiculous extreme. (The weakness previously is that it’s to gold dust getting into their systems, here all you need is a gold tipped arrow or even coins and a slingshot!) While getting them back for the silver anniversary was a good idea this just… wasn’t it for them.

Them having competing villains presents another problem. There are now three enemy factions, each competing to get the titular nemesis. However that definitely feels like there’s too many, especially with only three parts. It doesn’t help that Lady Peinforte is a new person who has familiarity with the doctor, knowing far more than she should and it’s not really explained why or how.

Here are fun parts though, the locations are good and Lady Peinforte’s interactions with her manservant (who is not handling being in a new time very well) are funny (though the is a needless feeling segue with a woman who gives them a lift) and Ace is pretty good in this too.

I think what doesn’t help is that it feels like it hits a lot of the beats that Remembrance does. The core thing in both is multiple factions trying to get their hands (or protuberances) on a gallifreyan weapon that the doctor has left on earth (or in orbit in this case) and the end result is the doctor tricking them and using said weapon to defeat them. It’s especially obvious as season 25 only has four episodes so to have two so similar is really noticeable.

Ah well. Last ep is The Greatest Show In The Galaxy but between them I need to watch the rest of the Silver Nemesis special features and Noroi.

After watching Solver Nemesis I was able to finish the sims 4 reaper event and then I felt a lil more energised/motivated for Sunday.

So of course my hazy head returned about half way through the day, making me annoyingly drained. Bleh.

This morning I had to go back to Sainsburys cause mum got some clothes that needed returning and ugh, I wasn’t feeling up to it, but I pushed myself to go. (Mainly cause of bad weather reports for the rest of the week.) I was able to get the Doritos off op at the nearby Tesco and a snuggly capybara plush but when I got back I was tired and flop.

Annoyingly I came back to find there was a package that wasn’t delivered. I dunno what it is exactly (nothing I’m expecting has been sent) so I am a bit puzzled. It’s gonna be redelivered tomorrow so I guess we’ll see.

I was gonna add something else but now it’s completely gone from my head. Ah well.

I’m gonna snuggle with Midna, finish watching the unhinged Seapeekay vod from yesterday, finish the Silver Nemesis special features and then? We’ll see.

So Sunday was the next episode of Doctor Who season 25, the new special edition of The Happiness Patrol.

The premise is that the Doctor lands on a planet, only something is wrong. Unhappiness is criminalised enforced, resulting in cruel punishments. The Doctor being the Doctor decides that this needs to end, tonight.

Almost immediately we see what’s been added to this new version. New effects have been added to elevate the sets, making the locations feel bigger so it feels more like an actual city. There’s also new establishing shots of certainly locations and deleted scenes added back in (I’m less sure which those are since I’ve only seen the ep once before a long time back).

What I find interesting is that this world has a rebel movement, called killjoys (I wonder if it inspired those killjoys) and yet unlike some episodes that are similar, they don’t become the focus. Sure the doctor meets a few and riles up a crowd of demonstrators, but that’s about it.

What’s also interesting are the villains of the piece. Leading them is Helen A, the colony’s leader and she’s a pretty unique villain. She’s always almost softly spoken, but her words are laced with malice (even as she sentences people to a ‘fondant surprise’). Then there’s the patrol themselves which have the wildest hair (a big of pink and purple) and almost all of them are women who are gloriously sarcastic.

And finally there’s the Kandyman who is a man made of sweets (no I’m not kidding) and hike he looks a little ridiculous he oddly fits in with the world and clearly has a sadistic glee in what he does. (And also there’s Helen A’s animal fifi which is a gloriously well made puppet)

What works less well is the pipe people, who are natives of the planet before the colonists arrive. They kinda feel almost tacked on and don’t look too great either.

But overall I think it’s a really good, fun episode. And I love that the mantra of Happiness will prevail, instead of being something positive, is twisted into something almost malicious and threatening. Like the doctor says happiness and sadness are two sides of the same coin, one can’t exist without the other.

Other things now.

My Chemical Romance have made an insta post teasing… something. Is it a new song? A new album? A tour? No one sees to know, but Mikey at least posted it to his story last night too. What do I think it means? I’m not sure. But it means something.

The other day I had the Odeon code come for 40% of a selected film on Amazon, so I used it yesterday. The choice I narrowed it down to was between Thanksgiving and Tarot and I went for the latter. Do I know much about it? Not really, but I know it has creatures designed by the guy that made sire head which made me instantly curious. I’ll have to watch it (and Spree) soon.

Also yesterday I went back on Echoes of wisdom to chip away at it though I’ve not done too much, just a bit more on Eldin (namely helping the goron elders) but not much more. The new goron leader is so cute though I wanna give him a hug.

After watching the Who ray special features I watched the next J-Horror Rising film (thoughts late!) which was carved the slit mouthed woman which was pretty good.

Annoyingly the past few days my head has been feeling hazy. I can’t exactly put into words what that means (hazy feels the closest I can get) but it’s not helped that it’s been joined by headaches and a lack of being able to settle to sleep, which… ugh.

It’s really annoying and is starting to make my focus feel off as well as rile up MNy anxiety which isn’t exactly great. Bleh.

Today’s plan is wait for the food shop to come this afternoon, then it’s new Multiversus and Magic Arena stuff, plus Squidcraft 3 starts (with a lot of people including Seapeekay, woo!) and then I wanna watch the other j-horror on disc 3, Persona. Maybe I’ll get some writing in too if my focus comes back.
shadowhive: (Dalek WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME TEA?)
So last week the mail bought me the next of the Doctor Who blu ray boxsets, with season 25 arriving. For this boxset (the last of the seventh Doctor ones and his middle season) they’ve decided to do new editions of the four episodes on the boxset, reinserting stuff that was cut and adding some new effects.

So I started the silver anniversary season with Remembrance Of The Daleks, the last Dalek ep of the original series.

It’s a strange title really, and one seems to know exactly why it’s called Remembrance and it just seems a strange choice of word. But I guess it rounds out the last three Dalek story’s each one being ‘r-word of the daleks’.

Anyway it’s a pretty good episode and it’s widely considered the best seventh Doctor episode (I’ll see what I think when the season has been rewatched again). And it has a lot of standout moments, like the special weapons Dalek, the Dalek going up stairs, the Dalek shuttle landing and Ace beating a Dalek up with a baseball bat. The later of which is such an awesome moment and probably the best remembered one of the whole thing.

I love the imperial daleks in this, there gasping looks so nice in the fancy gold and white.

I really loved the counter measures team, which is essentially a proto Unit. Professor Jensen is a fav with her reactions to everything and it’s a shame the doctor didn’t get back to this time period before the show was cancelled. (Thankfully big finish decided to make an audio series with them and I do have one I picked up in the sale so I’m gonna listen to it soon).

What’s depressing about it though is that you could make the episode work set today, since there are a racist group of humans working with a Dalek faction, spouting the same sort of nonsense that is sadly used against immigrants to this day. But the episode didn’t shy away from showing how unpleasant they were and how wrong they were. Because the episode is about racism, the daleks are fighting because they’re slightly different and the association hates people of different races for the same reason.

It is funny though that, during location filming the explosions were so big that people thought it was a terrorist attack. Even firemen got called to the scene only to watch, slack jawed, as daleks emerged from the smoke.

Other good scenes, the fake out with the Dalek battle computer, the cafe scene, the creepy girl and the Doctor out gambiting Davros.

I managed to watch the special features over the weekend and it was bittersweet. Behind the sofa was fun as always (this season they’re rotating in a different guest actor each ep, which is interesting) and it was so cool to see the Dalek shuttle was a full sized model that was lowered by a massive crane! Like damn it really shown they put the effects team to work with this one.

The sadness came from the new ‘looking for’ documentary, this one into the actor that played Mike (the young man that acted as a spy for the association). And damn it was just so sad because he died so so young from aids and it was so sad because he was so full of life, right up until the end.😔

Anyway other things. I e not done much this weekend though at least I feel better than I did on Friday which good. I’ve also been hit with creativity again, which is hopefully a good sign, albeit I get sidetracked from the WIPs I wanted to tackle.

Yesterday was getting back to the Marple run, but the ep wasn’t too special, then Dungeons and dodongos which was fun (my dice seemed to like me!) though I couldn’t use my cam cause the laptop’s didn’t wanna work and it was too dark for the pad one.

Also there’s the new Fortnite season, though their changes to the music pass seem odd. Instead of only being able to level it up on festival, it’s now tied to general xp. Whcih is fine, but it means, without even trying, I’ve mostly completed the pass in one day. Which would be fair enough if it was short to watch the new season, that this is meant to last about 10 weeks? Hopefully they add additional rewards but…

Today I did some more Echoes Of Wisdom and I got to the goron city, yay! I love the Goron’s they’re one of my fav races (almost joint with the zora) so I was glad to fix the rift in the city. Next time I go on it’s gonna be hunting for missing elders. (I also did a wrecked ship, with the boss similar to one in OOC).

Tonight’s plan is to write some, do some more Marvel Snap (I wanna get the main conquest reward) and then it’s the finale of Solar System and then I wanna continue J-Horror rising.

The main plan later in the week is to head back to Birmingham, to go and see the museum which has been reopened after refurbishment.

Next post might be fic, October’s monthly round up or a locked one, we’ll see.

Time for another post, which'll likely be disjointed a bit but hey, they always are.

So I found my Celestial Toymaker blu ray (it was where I thought it was in the end it was just hiding under a bag) so I decided to watch it on Sunday. It’s another old who ep that’s been animated, only this time it’s in a new 3d animated style. I wasn’t quite sold on it from the announcement trailer, but it really works, especially for the surreal characters that are in it.

But as for the ep itself it’s kinda… not too special. Like it’s fun seeing Dodo and Steven handle the various riddles and puzzles (and the aforementioned surreal characters that they meet along the way) but the doctor’s side feels a lacking. They get separated early on, with the companions doing a series or games while the Toymaker and the Doctor play their own. It could’ve been an interesting battle of wits between them… except the doctor is rendered invisible and then mute for most of it, so it’s just the Toymaker talking to a hand. As a result that side is pretty disappointing.

I do think the animation elevated the ep from what it was, you get the sense that the ep was ambitious when it was written but they didn’t have the budget to realise it so I’m glad the animation has at least managed that.

There was also a new special feature of a doctor who escape room. It’s clear that it’s been done for the boxsets (and thankfully seems to have been filmed for all of them) so it’s gonna be interesting seeing the different teams tackle it. For this one I dunno though my focus drifted after a bit likely causa tiredness which... boo.

But also I’ve gotten back to American Horror Story Asylum and it keeps getting wilder especially with the reveal on who bloodface actually is which is so…

Yesterday there was a trailer for sonic 3 and I’m so hyped for it! We got to see Shadow in action! And he’s voiced by Keane Reeves which is a truly wild sentence.

Also yesterday I was thinking of going to town to see a film, but I wanted to see how I felt (back thing has been acting up) and the weather (it was meant to rain). But I decided to go anyway. I had two choices of film to see: Deadpool and Wolverine or Alien Romulus. I went with the former, solely cause I might be in Birmingham next week and it’s more likely Romulus is still showing there then.

There was a load of trailers beforehand.
*Alien Romulus - looks really good I’m definitely gonna see it
*Wicked - looks pretty and good to see Michelle Yeoh but I dunno if imply see it
*Gladiator II - I didn’t see the first one so eh, but was that Joseph Quinn as an Emperor? And Pedro Pascal!
*Venom The Last Dance - looks like it’ll be pretty good, I still need to see the last one
*Captain America Brave New World - it seems to have vibes of Winter Soldier which was really good and I do wanna see Harrison Ford in the mcu (but eh including an Israeli ‘hero’? That seems bad, even though she’s not touched on by name in the trailer)

I had meant to see Deadpool 2 before it because I’ve not seen it (despite having the blu ray for awhile) but I didn’t have chance to. However while events of it were referenced I didn’t feel I missed out by not seeing it which was good.

Ryan Reynolds is so fun as Deadpool, making quips the whole time and he’s just so funny. And the opening scene was so brutal but also I now have Bye Bye Bye stuck in my head (which I sense is a common thing). I can also totally see why I saw a lot of art in the back of a Honda odyssey between Deadpool and Wolverine.

I other thoughts under the cut cause semi spoilers.

Alas it finished after the last bus had gone so I had to walk back. I popped in Asda first and got some cheap stuff (and the nice burrrito bites) but ugh that meant I was tired from the walk home.

However I couldn’t just flop when I got back, I watched Masterchef and then Chucky (which is really fun I hope he kills the bullying bitch).

I was also able to start Star Wars Outlaws (thanks Ubisoft+) and it’s fun so far. The data spike thing is gonna take some getting use to and I need to work out the stun setting (I fumbled it when I tried to use it). But ahhh Nix is so cute I love them!

Other gaming wise I have been working on Steamworld Heist 2 and I feel I’m close to finishing it (I hoped to before outlaws but…) and ahh seeing some unexpected people from the first Heist was so cool!

Plans this week:
*actually sit down and fic (I’ve missed it but my focus has been so off)
*watch the Nintendo direct from yesterday (I missed it by going out)
*Some more American Horror Story/hopefully start vhs run
*watch something on shudder (maybe)
*get back to reading Rogue
*Look into sorting uni (again ficus has been off ugh)
*watch something on shudder

I feel I’m missing something too (as always) but ah well. Now to flop and wait on mail so as the song says: bye bye bye.
