May. 18th, 2026 09:16 amThe weekend ended up being so… ugh. But especially yesterday where I was drained and anxiety ridden and ended up having to skip dnd cause I didn’t feel peoplely in the slightest. I also ended up going to bed early but not sleeping for like… three hours +. Which…ugh.
We’re heading out in about 30 minutes (from now) so we should be able to look around the place near the hospital (not that there’s much there, I’d still rather have stopped off in town to check forbidden planet but…)
Mail did arrive this morning so at least we didn’t miss out. It was a doctor who vinyl from eBay mum decided to get, Max Warp, an 8th Doctor audio which has Duncan from Blue (and oddly it’s a misprint it’s meant to be a splatter vinyl but it’s a solid orange instead). Also came is the blu rays I got from that hmv offer I mentioned weeks back. I settled on getting: Broadcast Signal Intrusion, Obex, Something In The Dirt and We’re All Going To The World’s Fair. Once everything is settled I’m gonna set a day and that’s gonna be a day to weekly go through the blu rays. (It might be a midweek day cause of the Friday cinema trips planned for the next three weeks).
I still need to go through the things I planned to watch too but getting the appointment threw me off so much.
(I had considered getting some Who audios from the big finish warehouse clearance but again, the appointment stuff threw up me off and I missed out, damnit)
I did end up watching The Twin Dilemma Saturday, finishing the Doctor Who season 21 boxset (the episodes anyway, there’s two special features discs including the tales of the tardis version of Earthshock which I might watch the weekend).
Twin is consistently rated as one of the worst Who eps and… yeah it’s not the best but I dunno if I’d say it’s the worst either. There are issues with it which do make it stand out as bad, mostly to do with the sixth doctor. His regeneration has made him erratic, even violent and while I can see what they were going for with it, it’s obviously a mistake (especially strangling Peri). It doesn’t help that, since this is the last ep of the season, this is the impression you’ve got of Six, without other eps to soften him right after.
There’s also the wardrobe with Six’s ridiculous outfit (his actor had wished for a black outfit to blend in but was overruled). But not only that both Peri and a one of character go in and end up in questionable outfits too.
I did like Lang, the police character that ends up coming along for the ride and there were some nice scenes at the police Center when the titular twins were kidnapped (shame they essentially give up on the pursuit) and there’s nice model work. I did like the Jacondans design, but didn’t read that they were meant to be birds at all (probably due to the lack of wings). And there is a nice scene at the end where the doctor loses his mentor. And, even though the doctor’s attitude is terrible it is acted well at least.
But it is pretty telling that this was an ep with behind the scenes issues. (The story needed to be written, they had issues with studio time and prep as a result) and it’s one of those where the issues really show sadly.
I should rank the eps now I’ve finished the boxset but I don’t really have the time to ponder on it. I’d say Resurrection Of The Daleks was probably my fav of the season though.
Off now though. I don’t expect to have any answers, I just expect to be waiting around and be tired and annoyed.
