The realm of half remembered things
May. 29th, 2026 12:35 amThe week has continued to be low energy, mostly due to the heat.
After the last post the Lego Anzellan ship I ordered came, so I spent Tuesday building that and it’s a really nice lil ship. I love the lil Anzellans so much and they’re so cute. The only thing is they’re so small they can’t interact with anything (even more odd as they give them a full range of toys but they can’t hold them so ??). Also one of the pieces flew off again, like with the x-wing (and two engine pieces, I’ve found one but..) oddly it’s not on the site to order a replacement.
Wednesday I made a start on my pile of blu rays that came recently and watched Obex. It’s about a guy that gets transported into the world of a computer game, on a quest to save his dog. The main issue is that it takes half the film to get to the titular Obex (and spent, mostly, with one guy) but once you get there (but he has someone to bounce off of) it’s really good. It’s just a shame it takes so long to get there, but at least the dog is a cutie.
I was intending to watch through the blu ray pile one a week but I added another thing to it (oops) a film called Touch Me which has a tentacled alien so of course I’m intruiged (it also comes with a bonus film, Hypochondriac, and a booklet called Queerness Made Flesh)
We had to get stuff from the co-op and, to my surprise, they finally had Pokémon cards so I impulse got some (one yesterday, one when I went back today) and the art is so good and ah! One of the ones I got was mareep!
Last night I decided to watch Gonjiam Haunted Asylum on shudder and damn! It was so good and done so well. Easily one of the best found footage films I’ve seen in awhile.
After that I finally watched Welcome To Derry. The plan was to watch both of the remaining eps together but I wasn’t up to it so just watched the first one. Damn though, that ep at the Black Spot was so horrific. Like what the fuck? I’m planning on watching the finale tonight.
Today was the town trip and I went in a few places before the cinema. I didn’t get some of the things I was intending to (I saw there were Star Wars lollipop collectibles at b and m but I didn’t see them, I might look Monday, Smyths didn’t have the Imperial Remnant Snowtrooper Funko and the entertainer didn’t have the Young Jedi Adventures ship, Burger King didn’t have anything, though maybe that ones for the best cause I just ebayed the last two). But I did get other stuff.
The clearance place had the micro galaxy squadron Sith Infiltrator (Darth Maul’s ship from Ep I), a black series Princess Leia (in her iconic white outfit) and a pumbaa plushie which was more of an impulse by. Smyths hana randomly reduced Black Series Vader and the squark van. (I still don’t understand the figures for Stranger Things, how they hardly make anyone and only do one wave.) and Asda had a tee of Mandalorians.
At the cinema I got the combo with the cup and the tin (I wasn’t given a choice of tin but I got the capper of Grogu with the scope which is cute). It seems the At-at’s were gone though which was a shame but I guess they didn’t have many to begin with.
The trailers for Backrooms were mostly new, bar Ice Cream Man (don’t wanna see) and Disclosure Day (which I do). There was also a new trailer for Evil Dead Burn, which does a better job of making me wanna see it, plus the new Insidious film (which does look pretty good).
But anyway, Backrooms! (Under the cut, but I don’t say much about it beyond what’s in the trailers)
So I’ll be clear I didn't know much of Backrooms before the trailers started showing up. Like, I knew it was a thing, as a concept but didn’t know much. The director of the film did make a YouTube series on it, which led him to doing this. (And WTF? He’s only 20? That’s crazy.) So I went in not knowing much and I didn’t feel at a disadvantage for that which is good, cause the trailers made me really hyped for it.
The basic plot is that a guy, Clark, finds an entrance to the Backrooms in the basement of his store. The Backrooms is this strange liminal space, with lots of rooms (mostly yellow) but all somehow… wrong. For instance one room has just a pile of furniture in the middle of it while another has a hole in a floor and a tiny door up a ramp.
The film is strongest during the exploration of the rooms, along with some found footage type sections which are so well done. All the rooms are oddly unsettling, partly down to the colour (most of the rooms are a sickly yellow) but also just how… off everything is.
It is one of those films where you don’t get any answers, but I didn’t expect to and it works for it. (Unlike Rose Of Nevada where that lack was just frustrating.) I really hope it does well and the director gets to do more (I know from an sfx interview he has ideas and, if projections are anythign to go by, it’ll do really well).
After the film I went in Asda then Poundland to get a drink and it was then I realised I was flagging big time. There was no way I could make it through my planned second watch of Mandalorian And Grogu so I just came home. I dunno if it was cause of the heat or lugging around cat food or both (along with the prospect of going to sainsburys tomorrow to pick something up for mum, ugh).
Ah well, maybe I will rewatch another time. Next film trip will be Masters Of The Universe next week (along with Amazing Digital Circus maybe, or Scary Movie but it depends).
I did nap once I got back, but I still feel pretty tired. I’m just gonna watch stuff on tv then hopefully Welcome To Derry and bundle up.
Tomorrow is that annoying trip, plus hopefully watching the Doctor Who Movie.
And I just opened up the Strnager Things van and it’s such a nice set, it’s a shame they didn’t bother making many figures for it. (For reference, they did Eleven, Dustin and a demo as figures, plus Steve with this and Robin with a bigger set of the studio) It’s so baffling. I might get have to find the Dustin at this scale so Steve isn’t alone, if I can find him (I do have the bigger one cause I was gifted it but the 4 inch one seems hard to find. Fuck they really screwed the distribution over). Oh! But I do have a Will though, but that’s a season 1 Will.
