So this is a late one, oops. I blame things being stressful/distracting. Which is also why there’s some things here that aren’t done.

But yeah November ended up being stressful so I lacked focus to read or fic which was irritating. (And this month is similar).

But having said that I did manage to finish some shows! The new Futurama season, season 2 of Wednesday and vol 1 of Stranger Things season 5. The last two have given me so many thoughts and Futurama is always fun to watch.

I need to get back to the Doctor Who run of season 13, I still have Brain Of Morbius and Seeds Of Doom to watch, both of which I’m looking forward to. And I’m glad to finally watch the Sonic 3 blu ray and finally seeing It (and Thanksgiving too).

And, of course, Frankenstein was a cinema highlight (if you haven’t go see it! It son Netflix now) and I also loved Predator Badlands so many.

With Shudder I started the second season of Horror’s Greatest, though honestly I’m not a fan of animal attack stuff. I guess it’s cause I’m an animal love I just don’t vibe with it. Having said that I think the wildest one was something about worms attacking people that looked so wild cause ??

And speaking of roundups…

Month 5: November 20th - December 20th
3: Wake Up Dead Man, Zootropolis 2
10: Five Nights At Freddie’s 2, Pillion

Month 5 of the cinema pass has just been two trips, but back to doubling up with them. I think my order of them is Zootropolis 2, Five Nights At Freddie’s 2, Wake Up Dead Man and Pillion. Though they are pretty close. (And Wake Up is technically the better film, but I’m more likely to rewatch Freddie’s)

***

Last night I had hoped to do stuff, but after watching some things with mum and doing a little on ControlI ended up just getting absurdly tired. I think having mulled wine didn’t help, as it made my head a little hazy.

But right now I’m sat getting Midna cuddles which is good, then I can hopefully fic and do stuff later. (And it’s winterfest on Fortnite so hopefully the freebies this year are nice)

Today has been a busy day but first.

As I mentioned in the last post the library stint yesterday was quiet and I mentioned to mum about getting the tree sorted. I was saying it in the sense of ‘we’ll do it Saturday’ but mum took it to mean ‘we’ll get it down yesterday’. Cue me lugging the thing down after the food shop came, opening the box and getting it out… only to find the stand for it is nowhere to be seen.

I think we’d boxed it last year, forgot to add the stand and it got put with other things but do I know where they are? Nope. So we have the tree box where it would go cause I didn’t have the energy to mess with it. (Mums genius idea? Sort it while food was cooking and obviously that went wrong)

Sigh.

Today started with sorting out an order for mum (the gingerbread Lego that’s meant to be for Xmas, but it’s on back order, but at least doing it now got a freebie) then mums friend came, ostensibly to bring Xmas stuff but of course she wanted stuff ordering too ugh.

Mail came today too, the new Stranger Things annual (which I got under half price!) which looks really good on my flick through! There was also God Is A Bullet, the blu ray with hot Garrett Wareing (which I was told to expect by Jan 22) so I hope it’s good (and works!). Then when I came back Doctor Who books were here (I got some 2 for £5 deals from zavvi, which are mostly hardbacks so oop sorry mum that you had to move them).

Today I went to town, the town part was pretty short. I looked in smiths for the new stranger things stickers but they’re not out yet, but I did get a Stranger Things thing from b and m (the box that I lost when I lost my bag the other month) but they didn’t have the snack pack or bag alas.

I went into Smyths but alas they didn’t have the stranger things funkos I was looking for (even Vecna which was listed on the site, but I guess he was on the high shelves hidden) but I did get the Lego happy plants though (look how cute!). I also got the Frankenstein art/making off book which was a real bargain from Asda (less than half off!). I had a little flick through and it looks beautiful.

None of the trailers were interesting so I will just jump right into the film talk. (Unlike the last film thoughts these will be more spoilery. So let’s get onto thoughts of Pillion and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

That might be it for cinema adventures this month. I might see The Shining on one of it’s showings though but I’m not sure yet (it depends on mood, energy and weather) and I do wanna see Anaconda but that likely won’t be till early January cause it comes out just after Xmas.

Now though I’m gonna bundle up, watch stuff and might fic some.

Next days are low energy I might watch stuff (and the game awards is tomorrow) and I might go back to home bargains to get more Star Wars doorables (they’re so cute! And this set has some of my favs) but who knows if I’ll feel up to it. I also wanna make peanut butter booped cause I found recipes.

And there was something else but it’s gone out of my brain completely.

Tuesday was another library stint which ended up being tiring. Not cause of the library itself but mum. Last minute, after saying we’d not bring her, mum decided to bring Naryu as the ‘library dog’ which is fine, usually but Naryu got messy right before we got there so I had to take her back home (and she fought me every step cause it was me alone). So instead of walking there and resting I had to make the trip three times (and a fourth coming back) which just… ugh.

I did read the Stranger Things SFX article (just the main part, not the sections with the boys yet) which ahhh. I hadn’t intended to hold back reading it till after the season but any time I read the magazine (when travelling or at the hospital) I just read the short sections on other things. I’m so excite for the rest of the series. I also read another chapter of Halloween Party and it threw me off with the talk of computers and how they can cause bigger issues than people can. That was so surprising but so true.

Yesterday was the planned town trip, which was mostly to the cinema to see Wake Up Dead Man and Zootropolis 2. In between them (cause there was a gap) I went round town. I got the Hellfire Christmas sweater from Primark (it was on sale and I wasn’t sure if it was for Black Friday, but it’s not so yay! (here is what it looks like.) I also got the WQSK sweater, a hellfire bag (actually 2 by mistake, damnit), some nail polish and the stranger things body butter they have. I also went in bm and got two stranger things blind boxes (I am a bit annoyed pricing wasn’t on the shelves so they were more than I thought they would be) but I got Will and Vecna, and the Vecna seems to be special cause he’s clear red plastic instead of the image on the checklist.

But main thing was cinema.

I’m not gonna go over all the trailers, but there was something called the magic faraway tree which looks pretty good (though it has Andrew Garfield as a dad of children which feels wrong even though he’s probably old enough). There was also Moana and… I don’t get why making life action versions of animated stuff is so necessary but having said that it does, look really nice and I’ll probably see it.

When I got home mum had, as she tends to do, messed around with stuff. I swear she does this because she’s left unattended so no one can stop her. It wouldn’t be so bad but the things she does are often things that are acknowledged to require two people and yet she does them alone (even when we agree to do things together she’ll start them when I’m doing uni stuff). And it’s just so… ugh. But I was too tired to be anything but annoyed.

(And we also had a repeat of the record player fixation, as The Mousetrap is coming to Birmingham so mum insisted on getting the tickets to it right away which just felt like a rush, especially since we’ve not got the Death On The Nile ones yet)

The new Doctor Who magazine had arrived while I was gone and I’ve not read it yet but it does have free art cards from the new show which look nice as well as an audio freebie (a download of Seas Of Titan, a ninth Doctor sea devil story I’ve wanted for awhile). A quick flick through shows it’s got a lot of Sea Devil/Silurian stuff which I’m excite to dive into. The War Between The Land And The Sea starts Sunday and my optimism about it has been pretty low (mostly cause of how the last season of Who ended up) so I feel it’ll either be awesome, will be good but then end badly or just irritate me. Which sucks, cause I love sea devils so you’d think I’d be excite to see them back in such a big way but… (I’m also not hyped by how the main one’s face is so… human. One of the whole point of the Silurians/sea devils was that they didn’t look human)

I also saw a game I’d been really interested in, called Viewfinder, had came to switch and with a huge launch discounted do I had to get it. I love perspective games like this so I’m glad I can play at some point.

Unfortunately I completely crashed. It was a mix tiredness due to the long day, depression which has been coming in waves lately and my weaker eye just aching like crazy to the point of annoyance. Ugh. The latter is still aching a bit this morning so hopefully it’s not an all day issue.

(November round up post is coming though… at some point.)

Edit: Ahh! The next Doctor Who boxset has been revelled! Season 21! So that’s the last of the fifth Doctor eps with loads of fun/cool looking special features.
shadowhive: (Awsten Knife)
So after the last post I did see Welcome To Derry and ahh! I’m so glad I saw the first It film last week cause that made things hit so much better than they otherwise had (especially the last scene). This ep confirmed that Charlotte Hanlon is the best of the adult main characters. (And also that Taniel is the most pretty man in a Derry and so based) bring on next week’s ep!

Yesterday was the library stint and I read a few more chapters of Halloween party (said party has happened, a body found and Poirot introduced), then then rest of the day was mostly low energy.

Today was the town trip. My mp3 player is so odd. I put the member versions of Everyone’s A Star! as seperate files but the player has plays them as one which is so puzzling. And annoying cause putting the album on plays every song four times as result (bar bonus tracks)

Befroe the cinema I grabbed a drink then went in Asda and ahh! They had a plushie of scoops ahoy Steve! He was the only one there but alas the queue was too long and time was getting on. I did go back later though and got him.

Between films I got noms, using points that were due to expire, then went in a few places but didn’t get much. I did get the It Chapter 2 blu ray (cex had it filed under S instead or I which was why I couldn’t find it) and I picked the jacket up though haven’t tried it on yet. The Walsall primark does seem to have most of the Stranger things stuff too which is pretty cool (bar the jacket) so maybe I’ll get something later.

There were a load of food trucks/stalls along the Main Street (I dunno if it’s an event or what) but on the way to the station I saw one had churros so I had to get them. They were really nice and I saved some for mum when I got back.

New cinema day means trailers! And quite a few were new to me, yipee! (And smushing them all together)

Whistle: this was a very vibes based trailer, but it looks pretty cool from that. I’m curious.
Send Help: At the start of it I was like ugh, but then as it went on it got better. I don’t think I’d make the effort for it though
Five Nights At Freddie’s 2: A new trailer which is pretty cool, I really need to rewatch the first)
The Mandalorian and Grogu: this one wasn’t new but I still squeed when I see it!
Mortal Kombat II: my main thoughts on this was there’s a second one? And also this was attached to a 12a film? It looks like it might be good, but again I’m not sure I’m sold on it (even though it has the guy for Ring in it)
Anaconda: this looked so bonkers and I can tell it’s gonna be a wild time. It’s actually sold me on it.
Primitive War: I read a go review of this at the station ironically. It’s basically Vietnam War+dinosaurs. It sounds like a wild concept but could be fun, though apparently that’s out in just over a week.

The first film was Keeper, which is a bit like Him, in that I saw trailers for it regularly so got intrigued enough to want to see it so was it good?

The second film was Predator Badlands! I’ve not actually seen the mainline a predator films, just Alien vs Predator (I liked the first film but the second??) but the trailers made me so curious.

And since I’m not going to the cinema tomorrow that’s another month of the pass done.
Month 4: October 20th - November 20th
23rd: Black Phone 2
3rd: Frankenstein
5th: Shelby Oaks
19: Keeper, Predator Badlands

Five films this time which is pretty good considering. I think if I didn’t have the pass I’d have only seen one, maybe two. Again I. Glad the pass has let me take a chance on stuff and see stuff I’d normally not be able to or overlook.

Obviously my fav is Frankenstein, but Black Phone 2 and Predator Badlands are pretty equal I think, then Shelby Oaks and lastly Keeper.

I didn’t think I’d be seeing much for the next month but I think I’ll be seeing 5 things again: Wake Up Dead Man/Zootropolis 2, Five Nights At Freddie’s 2/Pillion and The Shining. The last one is a maybe, but I do wanna see it cause of Welcome To Derry which I didn’t expect.

***

When I got home I had a letter confirming Saturday’s appointment and ugh. At the bottom it says you can claim ‘a week’s free bus travel’ but only if you claim it 14 days before the appointment which is just so useless when I got 6 days warning. Ugh.

Also damnit Comic Con Birmingham announcing Jamie Campbell Bower with under a weeks notice. There’s no way I could go with the appointment draining me the day before (and lack of money of course) but damnit.
shadowhive: (Andy Bathing in blood)
Yesterday ended up, as I suspected after Monday, being a fairly lazy day. I didn’t do too much, just uni stuff and then flopping a bit.

It was the bake off finale and the result was predictable. (Mum wasn’t happy about that and thought one of the others deserved to win. Personally I thought having one person be star baker so often kinda took the fun out of it) Then we watched QI and I watched the Pokémon anime stream.

Last night though was odd. I just couldn’t settle and I dunno why. Maybe it’s cause there was a bit of a storm? But I dunno.

This morning I headed out to see Shelby Oaks. The trip to town was just to see the film so I went straight there. It’s a bit of a shame that this was the best time, every other showing was at about (or after) 8pm.

The trailers were the same as before (The Bone Temple, Keeper, Silent Night Deadly Night and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2) so you’ve already seen thoughts on them. However there was one I’d not seen and that was for Primate. And that is very much a no from me. It’s about a monkey that’s a member of a human family, only it goes feral and attacks people suddenly (seemingly cause something bit it). And, honestly, it just feels like it’ll be more upsetting than anything.

But anyway onto Shelby Oaks.

Next cinema adventure will be… I dunno when. I do wanna try and see Predator Badlands and Keeper but I dunno when. (If it wasn’t for the Stranger Things cafe I’d see badlands when I’ve got my gig next week)

And speaking of my gig ahhh James Marriott won’t Rock Sound award AND HAS HIS OWN COVER, (though damn I missed the signed posters, why do I keep missing signed posters of his?)

Anyway.

After the film I had 25 minutes before the next train so I popped in the Asda across from the cinema. There wasn’t too much interesting but as I was heading out there was a small Halloween section. I got a Hellfire Club glass which looks cool, plus some bags (2 Starnger Things, 2 Nightmare Before Christmas) which were nice. And on the way home I went in the co-op I got a Pokémon magazine that had spooky Pokémon to paint.

Tonight I’m gonna watch Planet Of Evil, the next ep from the Doctor Who boxset, then tomorrow is the trip out which will no doubt be so tiring.
shadowhive: (Steve His slutty lil outfit)
So this is gonna be one of those rambly posts about watching stuff. First, Wednesday which I watched Sunday (specifically the ep Woe Thyself).

Second is Frankenstein which I finally saw yesterday, yipee!

Before getting into that the trailers:
The Bride! - This felt appropriate since the titular bride is a bride for Frankenstein’s creature. It looks like one of those films that could either be fun or terrible and I’m not sure which it’ll be.
Silent Night Deadly Night - I saw this before for Black Phone 2 and my thoughts of it are mostly eh. It’s something I might see if it’s on tv or streaming but I don’t feel I’ll see it
The Housemaid - gotta admit I’m kinda curious about this one, even though I can’t tell the tone exactly from they trailer, but it has Amanda Seyfried from Mamma Mia in (and apparently it’s based on a book)
Wake Up Dead Man - The next follow up to Knives Out and it looks pretty good, I love a murder mystery. I really need to watch Glass Onion before it’s out though. (I do feel bad that it’s called ‘a knives out mystery’ instead of a Benoit Blanc one though)

Lastly, and even more finally, is the last ep of Stranger Things.

So today I ended up going to the cinema again. My original intent was to go and see Black Phone 2 and Paranorman, but I didn’t feel up to watching a second film (and felt there might be too much noise). There was a morning showing and an afternoon one, with the afternoon being my original intent but at the last minute I decided to go to the morning one.

That seemed a wise decision, because after rain yesterday (and rain forecast) today was a decent day. In town I just got a drink and then went to the cinema to see Black Phone 2.

Trailers were ones I had seen before: The Bone Temple, Keeper, Shelby Oaks and Fnaf 2. I’m planning on seeing 3/4 of them. Also there was a standee up for Frankenstein! Yay! And a poster for Shelby Oaks. My intent is to see both next week, but I’m really hoping my glasses are sorted by then.

Anyway! Thoughts on Black Phone 2 under the cut (though trying not to be too spoilery in case anyone wants to see it)

After the film I had half an hour till the next train so I went to cex (to see if they had the IT films which the site said they did but alas I didn’t see them), the bank to put money in (I’m glad I did more on that soon) and smiths to get the new fantastic four.

On the train I used the net to send a message and bam! I got hit by news of 5 Seconds Of Summer doing a tour! This isn’t a surprise, preorders of the album on the uk site are meant to include a presale link, but ugh. First off yay! There’s a Birmingham date, but also boo presale is next week and it’s at the venue I saw Sleep Token.

Anyone around when I got the Sleep Token ticket will know that was insanely stressful and took forever. I should be able to get a ticket if I’m lucky (vip is likely out of the question though) but I’m really not looking forward to it.

(I guess it’s good I didn’t use those birthday voucher or got anything from the flying tiger Halloween sale)

Once I got back home I just flopped and dozed off, cause ugh I feel a cold has come on. It seems the net is back to acting up, disconnecting for a minute or two randomly and I dunno why. Blah.

I’m hoping tomorrow is a lazy day, cause Saturday is heading to the vet (hopefully Naryu will be fine and not need anything other than her jabs)

But now I’m just gonna flop some more and watch the new Taskmaster ep
shadowhive: (Bulbasaur Bulba)
So yesterday ended up being pretty tiring. I went to the opticians in the morning and yep, seems my eyes have gotten worse, especially the right one which has got noticeably worse. So no wonder I’m having trouble reading stuff on the tv and have headaches. The optician thinks there’s nothing wrong with that, cause he couldn’t see anything but did refer me to the eye department ‘just in case’ (he did make sure to stress about three times he was sure they’d find nothing). It’s gonna be a week/week and a half till I get the new glasses alas boo.

When home we caught up on things, Sister Boniface, Harry Wild and then watched Murder She Wrote. Then I went on Pokémon some more. Aloha Pokémon are no joke they can be so terrifying what’s up with that?? I haven’t got too much further but I’ve switched my flaffy out cause the game gives you a shiny mareep which is so cute. (It’s fur instead of yellow was pink so it looked like candy floss!)

But then I just went so tired I ended up dozing. It made me glad I didn’t see Black Phone 2 yesterday I fear I’d have slept in the cinema.

I had planned to go to the horror/gothic market in town today (even getting extra money out when I went to the opticians) but between waking up late and rain I’ve not gone. The rain hasn’t been too heavy, but it’s about half an hour each way to walk and SoI fear getting caught in it if it gets heavier. The site for it did have pics from prior ones and it wasn’t exactly as I expected it to be, but it has had pretty rocks and dice before (but knowing my luck if I went it would have neither).

So instead I’m just gonna stay home today instead, then watch High Potential and Wednesday before dnd and then twitch con and the fangoria awards stream later (unless I get eepy sleepy).

But now tomorrow is the next month of the pass so here’s the round of this last month.

Month 3: September 20th- October 20th
20th: The Bad Guys 2 + Thunderbirds Double Bill (Trapped In The Sky + Terror In New York City)
2nd: Curse Of Frankenstein
6th: Him + Mystery film - Good Boy
8th: The Long Walk
15th: Night Of The Zoopocalypse, Tron Ares

So it’s the third month of the pass and I knew October would be the busiest time for it. It’s just over halfway through the month and I’ve seen 6 things already. (Which, and I checked, is more films than I seen inthe cinema during the whole of 2024 which is crazy)

I think my ranking of the films would be this:
The Long Walk
Good Boy
Night Of The Zoopocalypse
Curse Of Frankenstein
The Bad Guys 2
Tron Ares
Him

Thunderbirds isn’t placed there cause it’s very much its own thing (and technically it’s not a film but 2 eps of a show instead) but if it was it’s pretty high. A lot of the ones this month feel at similar level and I have to admit I did enjoy them (I dunno if that’s the right term for Him though). Thoughts on each of them are in. The film thoughts/cinema adventures tag (I might come back and add them individually later)

There are three more trips planned before the month is over. Black Phone 2 is sometime in the coming week, I had planned Tuesday but it’s looking to be changed (mum did ask why not tomorrow but I just want a lazy birthday instead of doing a morning showing, plus we have deliveries due). If it’s Friday I might watch Paranorman as well. Then the following week has Frankenstein on Wednesday, yipee! I might pop in the art gallery and ask about the art stuff that day too.

Then there’s Shelby Oaks, which is due to be out Halloween. Trouble is it’s not listed on the coming soon section of the site so I’m not sure if it will be. There is a mystery showing on that Tuesday which might be it, but it could also be Bugonia (though it’s also a shopping day which would make it tiring). So that’s very much a wait and see.

But now it’s time to snuggle, decide which of the kanto starters to choose from on ZA (I got an unexpected side mission which lead to it right before I went to bed but I couldn’t decide) and watch the stuff as planned.

Edit: And just after I hit post the rain came and hard so yeah I made the right choice to stay home.
shadowhive: (The Child Soup)
After using my glasses for good chunk of yesterday it seems that my eyes can adjust to the smudge’s presence, which is good so that meant going today to the cinema.

I did kinda regret going this morning though cause ugh. There were a team of three ticket people on the train but not to check tickets they instead harassed people. The machine at the station wasn’t working and they just weren’t believing anyone or helping, so that was needlessly stressful.

In town I just went to the cinema and they had the cool Tron Ares cups that light up! They posted on their insta so I asked and the guy just gave me one saying it was free, nice!

Trailers were pretty much stuff I’d seen before though the Zootropolis one was new as was the Avatar one, plus there was the Predator one which looked like it might be interesting. However! The best one was seeing the Mandalorian and Grogu one on the big screen! Ahh I’m excite!

Thoughts on Zoopocalypse and Tron Ares under the cut.

The rest of the night is gonna be spent flop and snuggling Midna (and watching Celebrity traitors). I might sort the Coheed ticket after noms.

Then tomorrow! That’s gonna be Pokémon release day yay! So I will likely be on that for the afternoon, then Taskmaster in the night.
shadowhive: (5SOS Micheal Red)
Ok I’ve not done a spooky season recap for a few days so! Here goes!

Day 5: Wednesday - Call Of The Woe, Shoto spooky stream, A Haunting In Venice, Forty Five - Order Of Simplicity

(Wednesday/A Haunting In Venice thoughts here)

Other than the things mentioned in the post there was Shoto’s spooky stream though I did tune out a bit. Sometimes I do, it becomes more listening to him play than watching. Which if anyone has seen him stream knows he has a nice voice. Then I continued the who audio I started in the night.

Day 6: Forty Five - Casualties Of War, Him, Mystery Film - Good Boy, Forty Five - The Word Lord

(Film thoughts here)

Monday was mostly, as I expected the two films. Though I did finish Forty Five which was a good selection of one parters. They were all quite varied which was good, though I think the Word Lord was my fav of the set (and did make me wish it was longer).

Day 7: Eso, The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror, Treehouse Of Horror II

Tuesday was an easier day, I did some of a quest on ESO (I meant to go back on later but got sidetracked) and two eps of Treehouse Of Horror. Sometimes I do a run of them around Halloween so we’ll see how much of a run I’ll do. (I do wish Disney+ had an option to just… play them instead of each ep wanting to play the next of season. The Raven is easily my fav segment of the first two. It’s honestly such a classic and I love that they did it.

***

There was an additional annoyance I didn’t mention in Monday’s post. I had an email from Student finance saying there was something missing, so I looked and they want my I’d which they didn’t mention before, then when mum found my stuff to do it I just got an error and the website has been down ever since. Like what the fuck? It’s another stress I don’t need.

Anyway.

I’ve not heard anything about the missing bag, but there is a purple fabric bag listed on the lost and found site so I have sent in my info for it for them to check. I don’t expect to hear anything though.

Today I went to see The Long Walk. Beforehand I went in the Poundland and got the bat tea light holder I lost, then a K-2S0 Funko and bitty landspeeder from smyths and, after debating, a replacement to the missing hocus Pocus bag.

On the train I read the Who magazine that came today and there’s a Halloween set of audio stories which I’d been curious about but now I want more cause Jonathan Sims (of The Magnus Archives!) wrote one. And there’s an article about the Dugga doo song though I’ve not read yet.

The trailers were the same ones I saw Tuesday: 28 years later, Keeper, Shelby Oaks, Black Phone 2 and Good Boy.

Thoughts under the cut.

I feel I’m cursed though. On the way back to the train (which I didn’t miss this time!) I passed the art gallery and bam! My messenger bag strap broke. Fuck! I’m baffled how it happened because there wasn’t anything heavy in it and when I sat down to check it was the metal part that had snapped. Like ??? How does that happen?

I’m so annoyed cause it was my main bag (I have two now one with my wallets/meds/phone and this one which has my pad and usually a magazine or something). I have ordered one I saw in prime day, a rogue one one, so we’ll see if it’ll be any good.

Tonight I’m gonna rest, then it’s a tutorial and celebrity traitors, then I’ll likely game some. I might have another trip Friday but we’ll see.
shadowhive: (Andy Bloody master black)
Before I get to the cinema part, I headed to B and M to get mum mints and look for a lightbulb for the oven light (I couldn’t find them). What I did find was a lil Stranger Things display, so I got fruit roll ups, a demogorgon tin (with some kinda sweets inside) and pop tart things. Plus I got a drink thing that was a game and some dice.

(Plus I picked up a Hocus Pocus bag from Asda.)

Before I get into the films there was the trailers.

Keeper (x2): Why do people in horror things keep staying in cabins in the woods? Have they not seen *unrolls list of films why that’s a bad idea*? I have been curious of this cause the cinema has had a poster of it but this was the first time seeing the trailer and I’m kinda intrigued by it?
Shelby Oaks (x2): let’s go! I had hoped there’d be a Shelby Oaks trailer today and it was (like Keeper) for both things. It was the one I’d seen before, but more importantly it confirmed the uk release date of Halloween. I’m tempted to see it if the cinema does get it then (which it should! It’s just not listed)
Chainsaw Man: I’d seen two eps of Chainsaw man on a stream once and it looked pretty good. I’m kinda curious, but like the other recent anime film I fear I’d be too lost.
Black Phone 2: it was the new trailer, yipee!
Good Boy: this was my first time actually seeing the Good Boy trailer.
28 Years Later The Bone Temple: I’d not seen 28 years later, but this follow up trailer makes me kinda curious cause what the fuck is going on?
Five Nights At Freddie’s 2: I think up this was the newer trailer, confirming we get it December 5th

Now onto the films.

I missed a train by a few minutes again but got the next one. Though I was so pissed. On the way home I realised I didn’t have the Hocus Pocus bag (which had the stranger things drinks/dice, a Star Wars cos baby of Fennec Shand, a Halloween choker and bat that I got from a closing Poundland). I’m so annoyed at myself and cause it’s so late I feel someone will just take it (after all there’s no one there to hand it in to). I’ll call in the morning just in case though but ugh. I’m so annoyed. I might be able to get some of the stuff later in the week but the cosbaby was the only one and the dice/drinks only had another one. Bah.

I’m gonna rest now, maybe watch something (or game).
shadowhive: (Cinnamoroll Spooky boy)
It’s time!

Spooky month is here! Rejoice! (Along with dozens of -tober month things, why is October the month for those?)

This spooky season I’ll be posting what I do spooky season.

Day 1: Welcome To Night Vale - Date Night, Fall Guys done Fall-o-ween Frights, ESO

First there was the new Welcome To Night Vale which, despite the name was spooky via the presence of the citizen eating town founder crashing the date night. As usually it was a fun ep (I giggled at the ai comments) and it was funny that though they did puzzle the founder so much was happening they didn’t know what it was. Also the restaurant was a mix of cute (awww bee petting!) and horrific.

Fall Guys had two Halloween events start and I completely the first one, which had rewards including a costume that looked like a robot jack o lantern. Elder Scrolls Online was more obviously spooky, with a quest to pet daedric princes causing trouble. (I’m also way behind on ESO cause this was an Apocrypha quest and there’s since been two story areas since then).

I did consider watching a treehouse of horror ep, but Disney+ didn’t have the Halloween section up and I didn’t have focus.

At the end of the last post I mentioned there not being Frankenstein dates, well today I checked the cinema site and there is some! Strangely Netflix said it would be one day only, on the 17th. However my cinema has at least a week of showings! So from the 24th-30th(at least!) and what’s more there’s not one but three showings per day! I was so worried I’d miss it on the 17th so that’s much better. My thought is to see it on the Wednesday, cause that’s when the Halloween art event at the art gallery is.

Speaking of cinema today was a cinema day. I had hoped to go see two things (my plan was to see The Roses) but my stomach had felt funny last night and so I didn’t feel like seeing it. Thankfully my stomach was ok today so I did go.

Before I did I had a delivery of t-shirts from qwertee, a silksong and an alien earth one. (And yesterday my tubbo cargo pants came!) And mum did some messing today in her room and found loads of things I’d been missing, including the Ranboo tee I won, the Hellfire Club tee I got and the Sorry Boys Book Club tee which I never wore before it was squirrelled away.

In town I picked up the new fantastic 4 comic, then some Halloween bunting and hello kitty Halloween tattoo things then went to the cinema. The Black Phone 2 display was set up and looked cool, plus I had a compliment from the guy that scanned my ticket for my Silksong tee which was nice.

The trailers were a strange mix. There was Corpse Bride and Paranorman, which are both getting seasonal re-releases. Then there was one for Battleship Potemkin (cause they’re getting silent film re-releases, this one with a musical score) and lastly was I Swear. This was the strangest choice to me. Cause the film was rated 12A the trailer was cut to hell to remove the swearing which just made it play out so oddly.

Curse Of Frankenstein was in one of the back screens, it might even have been the same one as Jaws, so it was one of the smaller screening rooms. There was a quite a few people there though which was nice.

I had been wanting to watch more Hammer Horror films since seeing a documentary on sky arts about it awhile back so I’m glad that the cinema had this one since it was so well done. It did surprise me a bit that most of it was focussed on Victor’s experiments, including reviving a dog (where did it go?) and then getting body parts. (Which, again, surprised me that it was 12A) And the creature only appearing in the last third (ish) of the film.

(It also makes me wonder if this is the film that put in the public imagination that the creature is a mindless lumbering monster. Hopefully the new film dispels that a bit)

I was surprised that Frankenstein’s mentor survived honestly. A few times it felt like Frankenstein would kill him but he didn’t. It did feel a little strange that Frankenstein went from reviving the dog to… make a man, like it felt he was making a leap there between the two instead of just taking the win. But like I said it was all well done and the vibes were pretty great. It probably wasn’t a faithful adaption but what it was still done well. (Apparently it had a limited budget which meant it was filmed largely in one location and they did use it so well despite that)

(It does feel a bit that words have failed me alas)

Next cinema trip is Monday which is gonna be Him and the mystery film. I’m 70% sure it’s Black Phone 2, 30% sure it’s Good Boy. Either is a good option, as it would be an earlier showing than the other Good Boy ones and I am wanting to see Black Phone 2.

Now though I’m gonna snuggle with Midna and watch the Pokémon stream jn a bit.
shadowhive: (Queen Amidala)
Yesterday was the release of the new Rebuild The Galaxy series so I ended up watching it and it was really fun. The Lego Star Wars shows are always really great and fun, and this was no exception. It was really cool to see Pirate Queen Amidala and to have the Skywalker family altogether which you really couldn’t have anywhere else. I watched all four eps (the first 3 in one go, the last one at night) and I’m glad I did.

At times though it did feel a little… product placements. Like there were the big K-2SO, droideka and most prominently Chewie. Plus there was the new Death Star set shown off. Having said that it did make me wish there was more than one set down specifically based on it. Not that I’d know what but it would be nice to have Jaxxon and pirate Queen Amidala.

I also did some more Silksong and the bell beast battle was so much harder than the first boss fight. I died so many times damnit but at least I beat it and now he’s my friend.

In the night, after debating what to do, I watched the new Ghost Files which was fun, though so funny to have Ryan say daddy so often. (And even as he said it he knew it would be clipped like crazy)

This morning I had a delivery, which ended up being the last issue of Dungeons And Dragons Adventurer. Now I’ll have to sort them out (along with the many MANY dice sets). I wish I was able to use the stuff in them though.

Today was the trip out so off I went to town. I made a few stops, including getting a pumpkin kit and bat bag from the works, some cute pins from a Pokémon card shop (that I didn’t know was even there??) and picking up a copy of SFX. I did go in B and M and it’s infuriating that it has two whole aisles of Christmas stuff and only half of one for Halloween. What the fuck is the world coming to?? I did see they had void series stranger things figures, but just Hopper and Eleven. (Does anyone know if there’s a list of the figures? I can’t seem to find one and wanna know if there’s one of my boys to hunt down?) The bm site said they have other Stranger Things stuff but I didn’t see them alas.

It’s sad that town only has one place that has new dvds and blu rays, Asda, which is utterly useless. I didn’t expect there to have Clown In A Cornfield but it’s still sad they didn’t.

I did manage to go in the art gallery which was nice. I didn’t know there were two more floors and one is impressively high ceilinged with an exhibit called shelter which was mostly nice. There’s even tours of it so might look into them. There was also the exhibit mentioned in the fest which was so random, it included metal sculptures and even prosthetic wound make up.

And ahh I looked to see about the tours and they’re doing some Halloween crafts! To make lil bats and pumpkin art.

(Also there’s a scare maze coming to town too which I didn’t know would be a thing there?)

The trailers for today’s stuff were mostly kids stuff (bar the last two) but most did look pretty good.
The Cat In The Hat: This looks like it’ll be really fun, it’s bright and colourful and I feel I’ll definitely see this.
SpongeBob: I had heard there was a SpongeBob film coming. I’ve not seen any SpongeBob stuff in ages but this feels like I remember it.
Zootopia 2: looks like it could be fun, I do really enjoy the first one. I have been guilty of not watching Disney stuff in cinemas cause it comes to Disney + but with the pass I might see it.
Pets On A Train: I’d not heard of this one but it did look pretty good, with a train being hijacked and the titular pets trying to stop it.
Night Of The Zoopocalypse: I’d seen a poster of this and was curious. It does look pretty good though, with something turning zoo animals into zombie like things.
Hamilton: Yeah that surprised me to be there too. Apparently it’s getting a cinema release, with a reunion of the cast too? I’ve never seen it personally but if there’s any Hamilton enjoyers look out for it
The Golden Spurtle: this is a documentary about the world porridge making contest. Yeah I didn’t know this was a thing either

Bad Guys 2 was a lot of fun so I’m glad I got to see it cause I didn’t expect to. I saw the first film on tv earlier in the year and that was fun and this one was too. (Ok I mostly went for Mr Wolf, but have you seen him?) It’s mostly a fun caper film though the last part is set in space cause of a wild plan (using mcguffinite to make a magnet for gold and attaching it to a strangely empty space station to steal all the worlds gold). The last scene did feel like set up for a sequel (as did the mid credits scene) so I do hope it gets one.

Also the art style is so great, it’s bright and pretty and the effects look so great. Plus everyone just bounced off each other so well, you can tell they had a fun time.

After that was Thunderbirds which ahh! Thunderbirds was a show I grew up with as a kid (which, of course was a rerun since it originally came out in 1965). I dunno if non-uk people know of it, but it’s about a group called International Rescue who save people from various disasters. And it’s all done with puppets and model work. The models are absolutely incredible and still hold up even all these years later.

This was a 4K re-release of two episodes, Trapped In The Sky and Terror In New York City. The first makes sense cause it’s the first ep of the show, the second is the 4th ep.

Trapped In The Sky is about a plane (the very cool looking Fireflash) that has a bomb in its landing gear which means it can’t land. The rescue here really shows off how awesome the model work is, from the Fireflash itself to all the airport rescue vehicles to the radio controlled things used to help it land.

It is funny though that the Fireflash is able to fly for 6 months because of its atomic reactor… but that same reactor means the people on board would get hit by a fatal dose of radiation in a matter of hours if not serviced, which seems like a pretty big design flaw!

The second ep has the navy shoot down one of the Thunderbirds (cause it didn’t even bother to give the unidentified craft a chance to identify itself!) which means it’s unable to be used for the main rescue. Said rescue is certainly a crazy one. There’s redevelopment in New York and they have decided to move the Empire State Building. (Yep move the whole thing in one go) naturally it goes badly due to underground streams causing subsidence, trapping two news crew as the whole building collapses, rending the whole thing moot.

I do wonder if this was chosen cause it gave thunderbird 4 a chance to shine (which didn’t happen too often!) though it could be that it was done because it had a lot of awesome model work again. As bizarre a concept as it is, it was all incredible well done and you have to admit it’s an original idea.

It has made ime wanna get the fancy boxset of the series that’s coming later in the year, and to find something with cutaways if the ships/locations. I feel I had one as a kid but who knows where it might be.

As I was leaving they were setting up a new promo thing for the Black Phone 2, which looked like the phone booth from the trailer, which is pretty cool. I’ll have to get a pic when I next go. Alas I missed the train by 2 minutes, but cause everything was shut (and it was starting to rain) I just stayed at the station and read some of the SFX reviews.
shadowhive: (Default)
After Friday’s post a few things happened that I didn’t post on the Saturday post.

First I had some luck, I was half watching the x-box uk stream and ended up winning a game, a deluxe version of Borderlands 4! I looked it up and it was £90 which is crazy.i expected to need to mess about with the Xbox storage but it was only 30gb which surprised me. I’ve never played Borderlands before so I am curious, but cause of the weekend (more on that later) I didn’t get to go on it yet.

Awsten was doing a signing of his book and merch with purchases on Friday. I wasn’t going to do it cause shipping is horrendous, but the live said the anniversary version of the book was gonna be gone soon so… I caved. Having it signed does justify the expense a little but still…

In the night I watched Hotel Transylvania 3 cause it was leaving Netflix. It was entertaining enough and I liked the music and performances though it’s one of those things where you kinda knew how it was gonna go. That’s not a bad thing necessarily though.

Saturday night the last night of the proms which was very eclectic. The conductor was very sweet and got into conducting cause of fantasia, so it was so cool that it included two pieces from it, especially sorcerers apprentice which was her fav. The rest included all kinds of things, a musical section of my fair lady, boherimian rhapsody and Bill Bailey on the typewriter. It was pretty fun and it’s good to have something that’s good as opposed to *gestures*

Yesterday though ended up being a bleh day. I was tired from all the working Saturday and then mum decided to be bitchy and the two combined to make my mood low so I just kinda spent yesterday tuned out.

In the night I did finally go on Dave the diver which does seem pretty good so far, though it does feel odd to have sushi made from every single fish you find.

Today I woke up and I’ve been headachy so I ended up lying down and napping, which seemed to help a bit.

Other than that my Owen pins came today and they look nice. Also I read the fantastic 4 issue 3 I picked up and that was fun too. I felt so bad for Doom though cause for all his brilliance he couldn’t solve the problem at hand.(and then there’s a strange wooden thing that can mind control people?)

This week mostly feels like it’ll be low energy. I have to chase up student finance to check if it’s being processed ok. There’s the food shop delivery. A funeral (of a relative of mums friend, I think I only met her twice but she was about 100). And then there’s going out Saturday and dnd Sunday.

I do wanna do a few other things (like the aforementioned Borderlands 4, plus the Isla hope to fic and catch up on Alien Earth). But also there’s new stuff coming this week with new Futurama tomorrow and High Potential Wednesday.

***

Since it’s unlikely I’ll be going to the cinema again before Saturday here’s the second month round up of the cinema pass. I went twice and saw 4 films total. I think my ranking is this:

Honey Don’t
The Toxic Avenger Unrated
Freakier Friday
Jaws

The first three are all pretty close to each other and I really enjoyed all three of them. Jaws is a classic thing and I’m glad I saw it even though I enjoyed the others more.

Speaking of Saturday some of the cinema times have been put up. I’m going to see Thunderbirds and it looks like I might see The Bad Guys 2 alongside it (the last conjuring film is also a possibility, but The Roses is out cause there’s currently one showing and it clashes).

There’s two mystery showings been put up too, one on the 29th and one on the 6th. Assuming they’re different I’d bet the first is Him and the second is The Black Phone 2. The first would be a welcome distraction after the stressful phonecall that day.

I feel that’s everything though I also feel I missed something.
shadowhive: (Liar Liar Krowfang)
I’m back from my cinema adventure so now it’s post time.

Before that, last night I decided to watch The Conjuring. The new film made me curious cause I’d not seen them before. I saw the first two were on Netflix, so I decided to watch it. My thoughts on it? It was pretty good. I mean it is a haunted house film so it does play out much like you’d expect. There’s a creepy basement, a child makes an invisible friend, someone gets possessed and they have to perform an exorcism. (The poor cute dog dies😭) It hits all the tropes, but it does them well. And also there’s a creepy doll which for some reason the ghost from the house can communicate with? I can tell why Annabelle got a spin off cause that thing looks creepy but also… why would anyone have that in their house??

Today I had weird manic energy in the morning (as evidenced in the spooky season post. Thankfully the weather was good so I headed to town.

First main stop was Tesco and I handed the UFB in. They asked if I wanted to be notified, so I should get a letter at some point. But they both let me have a new one and refunded me as well which was nice.

I got the new Fantastic 4 comic from there, a Minecraft magazine (cause it had a cool torch) and they had one of the new Lego Animal Crossing sets reduced so I got it. It’s Goldie’s Cozy house which is a tiny house with just Goldie. I might build it up later, if not then tomorrow. I also got the meal deal cause I was there and it was ok, though they had Fanta bottles with the horror icons on! Fruit twist had the grabber so that’s the one I got.

When I came out it was raining so I sheltered in a charity shop, got a lil bandana for Naryu (and a book for mums friend). Then I went in smyths. I’d seen they had the Byers House Funko bitty set back in stock so I picked that up cause it’s cute. (I have no other bittys I might have to get them) and I got a lil thing with Jack from Nightmare before Christmas in a coffin. They also had, though too high to reach, Shadow as a buccaneer which I didn’t know was a thing and I want. I mean look at him,

I then went to the cinema. I had forgot my phone cause I charged it (oops) but thankfully I had the email with the code still.

The trailers for both films were mostly uninteresting, though I did see in the Tron Ares one Evan Peters. I knew he was I. It I just didn’t know what role he was playing.

Now thoughts on films, Honey Don’t and Jaws.

There’s a maker festival in town Saturday and I picked something up about it to look at one the train. I had been considering going, but I saw there’s gonna be some of the robots from robot wars there! That makes me super curious so I might go, unless another storm hits.
shadowhive: (Rust Pretty)
It’s time again for another post, this time it’s almost entirely reviews of various things.

Cabinet Of Curiosities

Over the past nights I have continued my Cabinet Of Curiosities run with Dreams In The Witch House and The Viewing.

Dreams, like Pickman’s model is a Lovecraft adaption. I dunno how faithful it is to the original (tv tropes says not really) but I just know the man would have hated that two of the characters were played by black women.

The main actor in this one was Robert Grint, as a guy who lost his twin sister when he was younger and is obsessed with finding her in the afterlife after seeing her spirit get taken. He does a pretty good job with what he’s given and plays it pretty well. And there is some good other stuff in there, like the paintings (I’ve never seen triangular paintings before) and the visuals of vines/branches dragging him in the afterlife but…

There’s this rat thing with a human face and he is just… it’s strange and not in a good way and kinda takes away from it (not helped by the accent that he’s been given). And it really took away from the final scenes too.

6/10

The Viewing was the one I was most excited to see from the synopsises and it started promising. With a group of people being gathered to a rich guys house to view… something. What surprised me was the setting was the 70’s but I really loved the vibes, the electronic music, and the aesthetics of the rich guys house so I was hopeful it’d be good.

The rich guy clearly picked these people for a reason (and knew a concerning amount about them all) and then they got plied with booze (and drugs) before the titular viewing happened. It was a mystery object and it had an eerie vibe to it… but then it opened up and went down hill a bit.

With a thing like this one it’s the reveal that matters and, to be honest, it wasn’t a great one. Partly it was the design, partly what happened to the people but I dunno I just didn’t vibe with it which is a shame as the build up was good (until the drugs came out)

5/10

Clown In A Cornfield

So I finally finished the first Clown In A Cornfield book. Yipee! I probably would have finished it soon but my focus just hasn’t been there and being at the library today meant I could. I only intended to read a few chapters but it just pulled me along and I had to finish it (only pausing to get hime and have lunch)

It was really good! I’m glad I read it and it made me love Cole, Rust and Quinn all the more. Of course having watched the film first there were obvious comparisons between it. The film did make some changes, most understandable. But honestly? The killings being a one off thing feels better than the film where it happens every few decades. That kinda felt it was only done to have the opening scene of the film happen which, yeah was well done but ultimate caused more issues and took away from the suspense of other parts.

But anyway! Like I said it made me love Quinn even more and the scene of the big damn kiss at the end… I just loved that. Quinn being terrified that something had happened to Cole and he was getting cpr only for it to become clear it was actually a kiss.

9/10

The book did have a preview chapter of the second one, which made me wanna get it even more. The problem is it’s out of stock pretty much everywhere so does anyone know any book sites?

Also the film is getting its uk dvd/blu ray release next month and I hope we get that cool steelbook America has.

I was debating going to the cinema today, cause my eye had felt strange and with the library today, and there was dark clouds so I felt there’d be a storm. Said storm didn’t come so I ended up going. I got some earphones since mine inexplicably stopped working (I’m not sure about them), got a lil Halloween spooky succulent and a sonic mystery capsule. I opened it up and inside was Shadow! I took it as a sign to go to smyths since the site had sonic x shadow generations for over £10 but alas no, that offer wasn’t in store (it was only £2 off) but there was a shadow Funko so I picked him up.

Film thoughts under the cut but first trailers!

Freakier Friday had a bunch of things I’d not seen of heard of. (Wicked For Good was one I’d seen before and there was a different I Swear trailer). Regretting You isn’t something I’d wanna see probably. Good Fortune has Keane Reeves as an angel which feels like it could be a fun concept. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey seemed to be a romantic thing to start with but then went more… strange so I’m slightly curious about that.

The mystery film trailers were almost identical to the ones for Weapons, though I think the Him trailer was slightly different and this one also had fnaf 2. It’s funny thought that all but Him were sequels.

Sadly there’s not another mystery film listed which is a shame. Maybe there will be closer to spooky season but who knows. The next cinema trip might be next week, cause ai am thinking of seeing Jaws but if not it’ll be for the Thunderbirds thing in a few weeks.

I did see a fic meme post Monday that I am working on doing (so that might be the next post). It probably would’ve been done yesterday morning but as I was at the library I didn’t finish it (I did some then got sidetrack by Clown. (And I might post pics I wanna flail over then too)
shadowhive: (Billy Spell)
This is gonna be another film post, since the past few days have been watching stuff.

I did hope to watch The Loved Ones Saturday but I didn’t manage it cause my eyes and focus were too off. I did watch the next Agatha Christie’s Marple, At Bertram’s Hotel. I recognised a name in the credits but couldn’t place her so I looked it up between the parts and it turned out to be the original Mon Mothma from Return Of The Jedi (and somehow mum recognised her too which is wild cause of how different she looked).

(Though yay new 5 Seconds Of Summer got teased again, though I didn’t watch Micheal’s veep stream cause it felt too much and the timing was off)

Sunday though was a big watch things day. I finished the new Phineas And Ferb which were really fun.im glad more are coming though and I might have to rewatch some.

I always watched the next Wednesday ep, which was Woe What A Night, most notable for her dancing which… was a thing. I still love Tyler the cute barista guy. (Is the guy shirtless and collared in the season 2 trailer. I wanna know what the deal is there??) but yeah it was a good ep though ugh I hate those jerksass bullies.

There there was the first of 3 films. Section 31.

I’d been curious about it cause the trailer looked good and I did love Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou. It was meant to be a series, but then ended up being a film instead. Overall it was pretty good. After a flashback to the Terran empire (who has a battle royale/hunger games thing to decide emperors) it goes into the present with the main story. It is ‘split’ into three parts, which makes it feel episodic even though it’s all the same thing. Overall it is pretty good, I did like the team she was paired with though I did wish we got to know them a bit more. But at the same time it did feel it played things ‘safe’ in places. Like section 31 don’t do anything really immoral, plus a few twists can be seen coming. It was funny that there was a voiceover art the start and I was so sure I recognised her voice and, sure enough I did and it was Jamie Lee Curtis. Wild.

I do wonder if there’ll be a follow up cause there is potential there, though I feel there won’t be.

Then there was The Loved Ones which was an absolutely crazy time. Brent is so cute and I could see why Lola went for him, though damn I felt so bad for him. (And the self harm scars…) It goes a few places I didn’t expect (the basement, the dane, the mom) plus there was the contrast of Brent going through the horrors while it cut to his friend having his best night. Kudos to the film makers though, we love films where boys are in pain.

Today I was gonna go and see Weapons, but I almost didn’t, cause as I was getting ready to leave mum decided to start an argument so I missed the train I was hoping to catch. Thankfully I got the next one, though it meant I couldn’t pick up a drink or anything.

The trailers for films were mostly ones I’d seen before (The Black Phone 2, Him), new ones of things I’d seen before (The Conjuring, The Long Walk) and there were 2 completely new ones, The Toxic Avenger which looks like it could be fun though I dunno if I’ll go to the limited run of it and the strangers chapter 2 which looked pretty good though I’ve not seen the first.

I’m not gonna say much about the film itself. It’s one I think it’s best to see blind, but I thought it was really great and I was glad to see it. It fits a lot of things I like, it’s an investigating type horror (especially at the start) and it’s also like The Grudge where you have sections following individual characters and they intersect. But I won’t say more than that.

I will say I was surprised when I saw it was rated 18… until the two scenes which are clearly responsible.

I’d say if you watched the trailers and were in any way intruiged go and see it and avoid spoilers.

I had considered seeing Freakier Friday too, but decided not to. Both cause my mindset was a bit off but also because it feels like Weapons isn’t a film you’d wanna make a double bill of (if that makes sense) which I did suspect. So instead I just went in the big Tesco (I got the nee sfx, a chibi drawing book and some colouring pencils. I’ve not even opened the sfx cause it’s Wednesday centric and I sense I’ll see spoilers (or Tyler? Shirtless and collared and get distracted).

So since Wednesday is the end of the first month of having the cinema pass (since I’m not gonna be going tomorrow) that means with the first month I’ve watched:
*Fantastic 4 First Steps
*I Know What You Did Last Summer
*Superman
*Mystery film - Together
*Weapons

Without the pass I’d probably have seen two of those, First Steps and Superman so I have seen more films already than I would have without it. And I am glad I’ve seen them all as they’ve all been pretty good in their own ways. (My fav is probably Fantastic Four)

For the second month I dunno how many I’ll see, mostly cause the coming soon for the month isn’t fully up. However there IS another mystery film next week so I’m hoping to see that with Freakier Friday. (I’m less sure what this mystery film is cause it’s 18 and there’s not an 18 rated film in the coming soon section other than the toxic avenger and I suspect it’s not that.) K-Pop Demon Hunters is getting a cinema this weekend but I’m not sure if I will see it. I am tempted to see the Jaws showing, plus there’s gonna be Thunderbirds next month and I’m definitely going to see that (though it does come out on the third month’s first day).

I said this before too but what’s with October 17th? Now there’s a fourth thing happening that day. Netflix are gonna have a cinema showing for Frankenstein (the new one with Oscar Isaac) and I hope the cinema gets it and it’s not just a nighttime showing.

Now though I’m just gonna flop a bit and maybe fic later depending on my brain.
shadowhive: (5SOS Luke Restrained)
So before I get into the main post, I opened the MCC cards Monday and Tuesday. Overall it was a good haul with 2 signed cards and quite a few shinies. Unfortunately some of them are multiples and are for ones I don’t care for, so I’m hoping there’ll be ways to swap. I am sad I didn’t get the rare Seapeekay, all of the Purpled or 5up cards or the Techno cards. I dunno if it’s worth getting an overstock box when they do them (I dunno how much they’ll be) but people are already selling rares for £15 a pop. Ouch.

The official discord is gonna be opening up trades so fingers crossed there’s uk people interested in ones I have.

Also damnit! I was watching a Fandom live thing on eBay and the price went down 40% and I was gonna try and get it once I’d put my money in. Alas I just checked and it’s gone, fuck. I should’ve just done it on mums and paid the money in there. Ugh that’s gonna annoy me cause it’s so hard to find. (Anyone know a site that has it?)

Anyway today was the cinema trip to see Superman and the mystery showing. To quote Mamma Mia ‘it’s an adventure it’ll be good for you’ so that was my mindset.

I did spent a bit of time looking around the town beforehand, mostly cause of getting to the bank. But damn it is sad. There’s one shopping arcade by the bank and it was just… it had three shops. Three. That was so sad.

From a charity shop I got a DBD of somehting called Paradise Lost and Dispicable Me 2 on blu ray and a purse that looks like a fox. From Game I picked up a black series figure (Morgan from The Mandalorian/Ahsoka/Tales Of The Empire) and a Vulpix and Ninetales set. From Smiths I got the Fantastic 4 comic, though it was sneaky, and two 2025 annuals.

Then it was off to the cinema. Before I saw anything I almost gasped cause the price of the ticket to the Superman showing alone would’ve been almost as much as the month long cinema pass, which is so crazy. So just this trip would’ve more than paid for it.

The trailers for Superman were largely the same as Fantastic 4 - The Odyssey, The Running Man (why does no one simply hide in nature instead of be in a city?), a wrestling thing with Dwayne Johnson (I missed the name and The Life Of Chuck which I know nothing about but I was surprised when it said it was by Stephen King cause it seemed so… I dunno not scary?

Also the trailers for the mystery film . Not a trailer but there was a weird kfc ad that felt cannibal coded because why did a group of people dip a cute guy into water and he came out as a breaded piece of chicken?? Anyway! there was a trailer for The Black Phone 2 and it looks so good that I wanna see it. What is it about October 17th though? There’s the Coheed gig I’m thinking of going to, Pokémon ZA and now this. Then there was Him which I’m really curious about. Then there was The Long Walk which still hasn’t sold me though it is funny that Mark Hamill is in both of the Stephen king trailers (and I didn’t realise he was in walk until comic con. Them there was The Conjuring and Weapons as well as one for Jaws’ 50th anniversary which I’ve not seen in a long time so maybe I will.

Anyway! Superman thoughts.

After Superman I decided to try the cinema food cause of having the discount. There’s a little restaurant and it has nachos, pizza and a few things. Apparently you can get the pizza sent straight up to you in the cinema which is strange. I tried a capri pizza which was nice enough, though they gave you a strange device that beeps when the food is done, which was strange but pretty cool.

Then I went up for the ✨Mystery film✨. What was it? Find out under the cut.

One worry I had was it’d end after a train came and I’d be waiting for 50 minutes for the next one. Luckily I could catch the train without waking. Funnily on the way to the station I noticed a restaurant called the Toro Steakhouse and then also a poster for Walsall pride. I didn’t even know the town had one?? It’s at the end of the month so maybe I’ll go if I have the energy. I might look it for more info.

So the last post I mentioned sorting out the cinema a pass and I was gonna go either today or tomorrow (depending on weather and mood) and I ended up going today. Yipee!

But before I comment on that, I decided last night to check the local cinema last night (the one I usually go to) just to see and… they’re not getting Fantastic 4 till next week at the earliest. Like ???? That’s baffling to me. Sometimes they have had films later than release (like Smile and Sinners) but I never thought they’d do that with a marvel. It makes me glad I got the pass.

So I had a few options today. Fantastic 4 had multiple showings but I was between 10 and 11:45. Then I had the option of either just seeing it or seeing I Know What You Did Last Summer (which had a 12:20 and 3 showing). I didn’t know what I’d go for until this morning. (Mostly cause the weather has been dicey and the forecast said rain was possible)

So I went to the 10 showing of Fantastic 4 and then the 12:20 showing of I Know What You Did Last Summer right after.ten I spent half an hour around town, picking bits mum wanted and got the new SFX and the Starburst Star Wars Episode III issue (that I was sure was out of stores by now). I had hope to get How It Works but I didn’t see it so it was probably tucked away somewhere.

But anyway! Before I go onto the films proper here’s the trailers

The trailers attached to Fantastic 4: First Steps
Odyssey - Honestly I was surprised to see this. I’d heard there was a trailer out but didn’t expect to see it. It doesn’t show too much but honestly? It makes me wanna see it.
Avatar Fire And Ash - It looks really impressive and beautiful but at the same time I’ve not seen the second and I know it would be depressing. In the sense of ‘here’s this beautiful world and here’s humans that wanna trash it again’.
Tron ares - the same trailer I’d seen before, it does look pretty cool though (Evan Peters is apparently in it so I’m curious if he’s in it a lot)
Naked gun - this feels like it was mostly the last trailer of it I saw but there was a few new things. It does look really funny. I might ask mum if she wants to see it when we go to town.

The trailers for I Know What You Did Last Summer
The Long Walk - This is one of those things that looks like it’ll be well done but…. Honestly I hate the concept of it.
Conjuring Last Rites - Honestly I’m not sure if I’ve seen a Conjuring film. I feel I have at some point but I’m not sure. But this did look like it’s really good
Together - Same trailer as before
Bring her back - I’m not sure what to make of this but at least there’s a cute guy
Weapons - I read it was something to do with kids so I didn’t look more into it. But honestly? The trailer left me intrigued. Since I’ve got the pass I may go and see it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if one of those were the mystery film in a few weeks (there’s also one at the end of the month, also a horror film!) but I know there’s a preview showing of Bring Her Back.

Speaking of the mystery film I’m hoping to see Superman before it, but if it’s not showing then (I’ll know next week) I might go and see it next week instead.

But anyway! Film thoughts. Obviously it’s the first day and this may have spoilers so please avoid if you’re avoiding them! However if you are going to see there is a mid credits scene and there’s also a small thing at the end of the credits (though only the mid credits one is important).

Has anyone seen either I’m curious what other people thought.

And now non film thoughts, well non these films anyway.

It’s comic con and yesterday there was already interesting things.
*The Lego Game Boy got revealed and it has a Link’s Awakening cart and screens!
*A new V/H/S is coming this year! V/H/S - Halloween and that title alone makes me hyped. I hope there’s a trailer soon
*Theres a Stranger Things dnd thing themed on the campaign Eddie is running which sounds so cool
*I jus saw the new FNAF film trailer has been posted so I’ll watch soon

Also yay I finished a fic! So hopefully that block has shifted. I do need to find a copy of The Loved Ones from somewhere for research though.

And Hell Of A Summer is finally on Amazon prime, alas it’s a paid thing so hopefully there’ll be one of those discount things they put out randomly.

There was also Pokémon Presents Tuesday which, as always is most eh. But there was a trailer of the new Aardman show (of course featuring Wooloo) and some info on ZA which looks so good! Also there’s a new sexy guy and, for some reason, a team flare person working as a researcher with team flare logos just… right there which is kinda?? And there’s a mega dragonite which is cute.
