Coconut hospital
Mar. 15th, 2026 05:55 pmPast few day have mostly been low energy days, mostly spent playing Pokopia (I’m working through the third area now and this game is just so big already it’s crazy). So far in the game I’ve learned electricity, moving water, more transform abilities and, most recently, cooking to boost abilities. There’s still move areas to unlock (I dunno how many, at least two?) but I dunno when I’ll be able to access them.
(I need to get back to requiem sometime)
Other than that I managed to fic a bit (on one day, randomly) which is at least something. I hoped to do more to it but I got sidetracked and unfocussed.
Seapeekay has announced he’s gonna be at a con in Birmingham this month which… ugh. This and next month are the worst timing for something like that (this month causa gigs) but I do wanna try and go. The schedule got announced Friday and he has two panel things one say so I’m gonna try and hit that, but we’ll see.
Yesterday I decided I was able to go and see a film so it’s film thoughts time. I pretty much only went to the cinema in town. The shopping street is partly closed off now cause refurbishment to the Center has finally started after signs being up for months. Who knows how long it’ll take or if it will be worth it. I did pick a plushie up from Asda cause it was discounted but that was it.
I went to see Hoppers and How To Make A Killing.
Trailers
Seen before are Super Mario Galaxy, California Scheming and Arco.
Minions And Monsters: this honestly looks really fun! The minions summon Cthulhu, I’m not kidding that’s a scene in the trailer and that alone has sold it on me.
Toy Story 5: short thing, dunno if I’m sold on the concept though.
Magic Faraway Tree: A new trailer, seemingly dealing with later parts of the story. I’m kinda curious about it, might see if there’s something else. (I feel there’s a lot I wanna watch these next weeks) It feels like a fun watch
Devil Wears Prada 2: I watched the first film on tv forever ago and rememebr it being ok, I don’t think I’ll see it as the trailer hasn’t sold it. Might be a ‘see if on tv’ film.
Michela: Micheal Jackson biopic, feels like it’ll be well done but I’m indifferent to biopic sin general so…eh
The Drama: seems like the story of a couple only the guy finds out something about the girl and it derails the whole thing. Again kinda indifferent about this. It feels it hinges on what the ‘thing’ is, the trailer shows reactions to it but not what it actually is. Is that wise? Who knows
Project Hail Mary: new trailer, again looks like later parts of the film and ahh the lil alien guy! I do really wanna see this.
Anyway onto the films. I could have watched them either way around (they had similar showing times with equal gaps between them), but I went with Hoppers first.
First was Hoppers. I’m sure you’ve seen trailers or at least ads for Hoppers. It’s the new Pixar film, with the basic premise of a girl (Mabel) gets her mind put into a robot beaver body and then hijinx ensue (including her inspiring an uprising against humans).
It does take a lil while getting to that point, establishing Mabel’s character (animal lover, anger issues) and her relationship with her grandmother who helped her appreciate nature. It also gave her reason to show why Mabel was invested in this particular place, a glade threatened with destruction to make a pointless highway.
As a Pixar film it looks great, all the animal animations are amazing and it looks beautiful. It’s also heartfelt and funny. There’s a lot of characters that are fun (for humans the scientists, for animals the council and the group that Mabel meets) and that whole thing is a lot of fun. I’ll definitely watch it again at some point, when it comes on Disney+.
My fav scenes were ones from the trailer, which is a scene where the animals have the mayor in his car and try to communicate with a text to speech phone. (And then a follow up scene with a shark). And the last scene too was so sweet. And yeah parts of it were a bit ridiculous, cause of the central concept (‘it’s nothing like avatar!’ One of the scientists says) but it is really used in an inventive way before the finale.
There is a mid credits and post credits scene, which I was the only one to stay for.
In between I had waffle fries again, which were nice (dunno if the addition of cheese is worth it though) and then How To Make A Killing.
This one is about a guy called Beckett. His mother is from a wealthy family but she got pregnant at 18 and decided to keep it. As such she was exhaled fit the family home. However Beckett was still inline for the family inheritance, as it went to the oldest surviving relative, regardless of who that was. So he decided to ‘prune’ the family tree.
The trailer made it feel like it wouldn’t be too serious, but this was played more as a straight drama, sure some of the kills were a bit ridiculous (even funny) but others were devious. The whole thing is framed as Beckett telling a priest about his crimes as he’s on death row, which allows the story to jump to the major plot points. (Starting with a basic retelling of his childhood, then his various kills and befriending the family)
I’m not gonna lie I ended up watching cause I saw that Margaret Qualley (Honey from Honey Don’t, one of my fav films of last year) was in it. And she plays Beckett’s childhood sweetheart who inadvertently starts the whole thing off (and manipulates him later) and she was pretty good in this too.
I think my issue with it (apart from the tone being different than the trailer implied) is something addressed in the film itself. Part way through Beckett has a better life, a nice home, a fiancé and yet that’s not enough to stop him. Even with a suspicious fbi around, it feels a lil baffling and his answer didn’t really make it clear why.
But anyway it was good, but not as good as I expected
Next cinema trip might be Project Hail Mary (maybe with Ready Or Not) or if I decide to go to the Bring Me The Horizon gig they’re showing. Either way I’ll know when the listings go live.
When I got back I found out I’d missed a package but I’ve got nothing coming. All that’s due soon is the Doctor Who season 21 boxset but that’s not even marked as sent yet.
Night time was low energy. But yay qsmp started again. I didn’t see much cause I got timings wrong, but what I saw (and clips on my for you) was it’s already very gay. Which we low, we love all the yaoi both returning and new.
In the night I wasn’t gonna watch anything but ended up watching Bodycam on shudder.
Bodycam is about two cops that get called out to a house late at night, but things go wrong from there.
Bodycam is a found footage film, with everything shown from bodycam footage. The premise is simple, cops go into a house, something strange is clearly going on and one of the cops shoots someone who comes for him. If he was right to do that is unclear (the guy was unarmed, but had a child under a blanket in his arms and it’s unclear if he was actively dangerous but he almost certainly was possessed). The adage of All Cops Are Bastards comes into play almost immediately though as the one who shot him (his colleague was elsewhere in the house) instantly wanted to delete the footage and cover up what he’d done. Instantly any empathy for him I might have had was gone.
The film largely plays out as an extended vhs segment (a compliment), where more things get happened. There’s a chant of ‘you took something from me I take something from you’ throughout, strange symbols everywhere and it’s very clear that they won’t survive the night. There’s some good parts, one cop has a mum who is spiritual and could sense somethings wrong, there’s cam glitches when something creepy happens, there’s a driving section at the end that’s really effective followed by liminal spaces.
It was a decent enough story but when it’s clear the cops you’re dealing with are honestly bad guys (at least the one definitely is) it’s hard to root for them at all, especially when said guy does worse and worse things. But for what it was it was good.
Now I’m gonna bundle up, watch the Paralympics closing and maybe watching Clown In A Cornfield or fic
Then tomorrow… ugh mums annoying friend is coming which ugh. I might try and see if I can use the book tokens mum got from the library cause I forgot them yesterday but today is the last day so it might be useless.
