I meant to do a post the other day but I just got too tired so I’m doing it now.

First off E3 stuff.

Monday I watched the Ubisoft stream and it was largely... eh. There was nothing I really got excited about. The exception was Watch Dogs Legion (but that just reminded me I’d not done the first two games). It’s an interesting concept, being able to play as anyone in London and I have to admit my favourite of the characters shown was the kickass old lady. However it all feels a bit... close. Like the dystopia shown within in it is less fiction and more scarily close to something that will actually happen.

After that I watched the inside Xbox stream, though most of it was for stuff I wasn’t fussed by. I actually ended up dozing after awhile.

I meant to watch the Square Enix stream, but since I dozed, I missed it. Ah well. It seems like it was mostly Final Fantasy from what I could tell. I’ve never played VII so I might get it cause pretty boys. I need to finish the Final Fantasy I have though.

Yesterday was the Nintendo direct which was pretty good. Ok, there were a few games I wasn’t fussed by but what they shown was good. The Pokemon bit was short (as predicted) with no really reveals but the show floor images showed new Pokemon. Link’s Awakening looks so cute and the main new feature looks fun, but I hope it’s not a full price game. It’s a remake of a game boy colour game so they have to add a hell of a lot more than that to justify it being full price. Here’s hoping there is something but... it’s Zelda, I’ll get it regardless. There were smash dlc fighters, as predicted, with two being revealed but I’m not super bothered by either. Ah well. I still need to get the dlc.

Of course they left the main reveal towards the end. Animal Crossing is coming yay! But it’s been delayed until next March, ugh. It looks nice though, but being set on a deserted island means it might be... well, deserted. The gameplay they showed after shown off villagers but it was still early in the game so... who the hell knows. I guess we’ll see.

After that (and the Banjo-Kazooie sopmash dlc) it seemed like it was the end of rather stream... until they said there was one more thing. And then they played the best trailer of the whole thing because there’s a breath of the wild sequel coming! And seriously, I got fucking chills! It looks so fucking spooky I love it. (And please let my favourite boy come back!)

After the show was the treehouse showing gameplay of stuff. It showed off some Pokemon (but notmuch), Animal Crossing (as said above) and some of Link’s awakening (though it was just the first village for most of it).

After it I gamed a bit on gamepass games, then finished Taskmaster season 1 before sleeping.

I guess should add other things, but there’s not really been much else to say. The weather has been miserable so we’ve not gone far with Naryu and I’ve been too tired in the afternoons to do any of my reading. I did get the MCR magazine yesterday (thanks love) though I’ve not read it yet. I will after the exam (which, ugh I just want it to be over, I think the nerves from it are throwing me off because I can’t focus on writing). I’m trying to do a Ray fic for seasonofkink but it seems to be going slow. Maybe once the exam is done I’ll feel better.

If anyone feels like doing me a short thing for after it, please do. It would be super awesome.

I’m gonna end now on the June something

11: What is the fandom that you're in, but none of your fen are?

I have to say the Welsh bands. Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout, Funeral For A Friend (And Lostprophets before Ian was a fucking dick. It didn’t used to be that way, I used to have friends into them, but it feels like they have all fallen away (with the deepest cut being the one last year). It really sucks because they’re all great band and I love writing about them but it just feels... the spark is gone because they have left.

Same with a Motionless in white, I love them but after being fucked over I’m not sure I want to write them again.

The New Regime is also criminally underrated, Ilan is amazing.

I can’t think of anything else that fits this for tv and films. I’ve watched some awesome shows on Netflix (The Hollow, Final Space, The Dragon Prince) But none are fandoms I’d want to be in other than watching and appreciating.

I did recently get into listening to King Falls which is a podcast that is similar to Night Vale (small community with strange goings on and the podcast is based on a radio show) but the tone isn’t very different. I’m still pretty early on (around ep 20ish?) But it’s super good.

12: What fandom did everyone else get into, but you never did?

Again I’ll start with bands. Ok back in the day there was (and still is) ‘the emo trinity’. It was My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy. While I was always super into MCR, my love for the other ps wasn’t as strong. I was super into Panic! At the beginning but that started to fall away over the years, especially when they started losing people. When one member leaves early on (and then the replacement and a founding member leave together), well... eh. I dunno why I didn’t get into FOB but something jut didn’t really click. I did recently start listening to the, again though and got super into Mania and stuff.

Now for tv, I’ve mentioned Arrow before (and it seems I’m not alone there, so I won’t go into that). But there are two shows that seem to have a lot of fans that I’ll mention. First, The Walking Dead. I started watching it at the start (before Sky nabbed it) but I quickly found myself losing interest because it was just too... grim and yeah, that’s to be expected from a zombie apocalypse but it just seemed to get more and more grim (and from what I can gather second hand it gets grimmer). I checked out of it fairly early on and I’m glad I did.

The second is Game Of Thrones. It being shown on Sky meant that I couldn’t watch it, but it seems everyone is super into it. I did download and watch some eps (just the first two) but I didn’t get invested and got distracted by stuff. (And, honestly, I’m bad at watching stuff on my laptop). From what I can tell though, it gets grim as well and virtually everyone dies which.., I dunno, I don’t think I could watch. It just seems depressing (though I am glad that the annoying brat died though).

Gaming wise I never really got into the big shooters (like Gears Of Wars) and, honestly, Overwatch. There’s so much hype around it and I love the art and stuff for it... but there’s not much there. I wish there was some kind of story mode to it, that’d be much more fun then what there is

This weekend has been mostly a lazy one. Saturday I watched a few Good Omens eps then Killing Eve and games a little.

Sunday was even more lazy I meant to watch more Good Omens or Enterprise but I did neither. I ended up dozing in the afternoon and the day just... went. I didn’t even write any, but ah well.

At least I was up for the E3 streams.

First was the Xbox one. Like the last few ones it’s shows off a load of game trailers and there’s so many shown which is both good and bad. Good In that it shows off a lot, but bad that there’s nothing in depth shown for most of them. Games I’m hyped for though: The Outer Worlds, Blair Witch, Star Wars Fallen Order, Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, Cyberpunk, most of the indies. Cyberpunk was one of the few that got some in depth stuff and that was thanks to Keanu Reeves being announced for it! Like a lot of people I’m wondering ‘is he romanceable?’ And he was actually there (and had a guy from the audience say he looked good).

Xbox game pass ultimate was up for £1 and getting it converted the Xbox live that I had so now I have game pass for a year, woo!

Then there was the gap between Xbox and Bethesda which I filled with random gaming (I went on one of the new game pass games for a bit, but it was a bit... I dunno.

The Bethesda stream was 1:30am here so I decided to watch that before sleeping. Bethesda does a bit more in depth with stuff which is good. Ghostwire looks spooky and awesome (and the Japanese lady presenting that section was so sweet and adorable, she just looked so happy to be there). Elder Scrolls Online had a new cinematic but not much in terms of info (probably since the new expansion for put out the other week, which I’ll likely get next week). One of the big news was a free patch adding things to Fallout 76 including npcs which is very much yes! I’ll need to go back on it soon.

Tonight is the Ubisoft stream which I’ll watch, there’s Square Enid too but I can take or leave it. Tomorrow is the Nintendo one which I’m looking forward too. Please let there be animal crossing info.

To end, the last two June Something questions before I revise some (and fic later).

9: What is the smallest fandom that you're in?

I’d probably say the Welsh bands. Especially Bullet For My Valentine. 98% of the Bullet fic out there is either by me or for me. Alas, there’s not much of it and I’m dying for new stuff.

The other welsh bands somehow fair worse. I get it for Funeral For A Friend, but The Blackout is inherently slashy due to Sean being... well, Sean. It sucks that there’s not much for British bands in general (like Fightstar) and it puzzles me why some bands (Madina Lake, Palaye Royale, Coheed And Cambria) don’t have stuff despite having pretty boys.

Also Hatari has no fics on ao3 yet. What the hell?

Ugh, I just don’t get people.

As for tv or film fandoms? I dunno. I’m not a super active reader or writer in those so... I dunno. There’s probably something I watch that doesn’t get enough love but my mind is blank.

10: What is the largest fandom that you're in?

Usually I’d say My Chemical Romance. It’s a weird fandom in that it never has truly died, but it’s also not quite as active as it once was. Most of the content on ao3 is also focussed on Frank/Gerard, more so than it used to be, and it seems there’s a shame culture around others. Especially Waycest, which there never used to be, but I got harassment on twitter because of it which is sucky but lead me (and someone else) to spite write it which was awesome.

Plus, poor Ray gets reduced to little more than a side character often which sucks.

However, my current big one is The Umbrella Academy (tv). Honestly I never imagined it to get so big. I hoped there’d be more content (there wasn’t much for the comics which was sad), but I never expected it to get *checks* over 4500 fics and it’s been, what? A few months? The community is all so nice (apart from the purity side on tumblr, ugh) and I love that Klaus/Diego has so much fucking content it’s insane. I’ve met so many good people through the Kliego discord and I also mod it now which is awesome. It’s so great to be part of such an active fan base for a thing, I’ve never had that before.

Plus the other brother pairings are awesome too. Diego/Luther, Ben/Klaus and the rpf ones for David/Justin/Robert are amazing (although theres not much of that alas).

So a few days ago someone mentioned about the lj day’s and it made me nostalgic as it always does. I miss the lj day’s so much. Everywhere was active and there was just so much amazing content. It was a time where I felt connected with people.

And then it all kinda fell apart. People either left it or vanished into the ether. Now lj is a dead place and it’s sad. I miss the the friendships I made there and the people that just vanished. I hope that they’re doing ok, though I wish I could contact some again. It’s always sad seeing stuff that’s been deleted or lost forever. And yeah, thinking about that reminds me of the times before last year, before getting fucked over by people I thought were friends too.

After lj it feels like people scattered to the wind and nothing really replaced it. Some went to twitter or tumblr, some came here. I’m glad for dreamwidth, even though it’s not as active as lj was back in the day. Or maybe it’s just because I’m not in active fandoms here, I dunno.

The constant, though, seems to be ao3. It’s still an... odd place to me. People leave kudos, but hardly any leave comments. There’s no real sense of community there like back on lj (no places with prompts or recs or anything like that. Small fandoms there stay small while others end up with a flood of content). I’m trying to save some bookmarks on there. I’d not saved many, instead having them saved as bookmarks on Firefox when I had my laptop, so I’m trying to go through stuff like mcr and bookmark.

I was on Spotify the other day and ended up listening to Death Spells. I’d not really heard them before and there’s something... hypnotic about them. Motionless In White’s album came out yesterday too so I put it on Spotify too and it sounds better then I had expected it to be.

It seems like November is going to be busy. My love is planning a trip, to come visit around the time of comic con (just watch though, no one interesting will there). It’ll be nice to meet and show her around (not that Birmingham is terribly exciting but it’s the company that matters). It’ll be my first time leaving Naryu for more than a day trip so I hope she’ll be ok. The whole idea makes me excited/nervous.

The rest of November is destined to bankrupt me, between the new Star Wars novels, Fallen Order and Pokemon, I’ll be busy and distracted by everything.

E3 started today with the EA stream. Beforehand there was a bit of Battlefront into, with droideka coming and Felucia being added as a map. The EA stream today was unusual because, instead of doing an hour long conference they’re doing half hour segments for various games. This is good because it’s more focussed (and Star Wars being first meant there was no sitting through sport) but bad cause there was no info on indie games or battlefront footage.

However the Fallen Order footage was awesome. It shown off 15 minutes of gameplay on Kashyyyk which looks great. I love the new droid and Saw appearing! Which dates it as being sometime before Rogue One. The purge troopers look pretty cool too. I have to admit it’s made me more excited about it,

Tomorrow is the Xbox stream and Bethesda, with Ubisoft Monday and Nintendo Tuesday.

I did a bit of writing last night, starting my other seasonofkink fic idea. It’s Ray centric and I’m gonna try and do some more to it soon hopefully. It seems the first thing I’m gonna clear on the card is a vertical line on the left hand side.

Speaking of fic I really need to get back on the serial killer one. I’ve not even looked at it in ages and I really want to do it sometime. Maybe after the exam.

Tonight I might put on Good Omens some before Killing Eve and then may do some sort of gaming,

June something

8: What is a fandom that you never thought you'd get into, but did? Bonus: How did you end up getting into it?

I never thought I’d get into the Arrowverse stuff. DC stuff never really interested me, but The Flash came on tv and I decided to check it out. To quote night vale, I fell in love instantly with Cisco. He’s just so cute and geeky and pretty, he’s awesome.

Since then I watched Supergirl and Legends of tommorrow and I enjoy them too. The only one I didn’t get into is, ironically, Arrow. Maybe it’s because it’s grimmer, or maybe it’s because it was on one day a week (compared with the others 5). I dunno.
