Don’t go in the basement
Jun. 12th, 2019 09:20 amI meant to do a post the other day but I just got too tired so I’m doing it now.
First off E3 stuff.
Monday I watched the Ubisoft stream and it was largely... eh. There was nothing I really got excited about. The exception was Watch Dogs Legion (but that just reminded me I’d not done the first two games). It’s an interesting concept, being able to play as anyone in London and I have to admit my favourite of the characters shown was the kickass old lady. However it all feels a bit... close. Like the dystopia shown within in it is less fiction and more scarily close to something that will actually happen.
After that I watched the inside Xbox stream, though most of it was for stuff I wasn’t fussed by. I actually ended up dozing after awhile.
I meant to watch the Square Enix stream, but since I dozed, I missed it. Ah well. It seems like it was mostly Final Fantasy from what I could tell. I’ve never played VII so I might get it cause pretty boys. I need to finish the Final Fantasy I have though.
Yesterday was the Nintendo direct which was pretty good. Ok, there were a few games I wasn’t fussed by but what they shown was good. The Pokemon bit was short (as predicted) with no really reveals but the show floor images showed new Pokemon. Link’s Awakening looks so cute and the main new feature looks fun, but I hope it’s not a full price game. It’s a remake of a game boy colour game so they have to add a hell of a lot more than that to justify it being full price. Here’s hoping there is something but... it’s Zelda, I’ll get it regardless. There were smash dlc fighters, as predicted, with two being revealed but I’m not super bothered by either. Ah well. I still need to get the dlc.
Of course they left the main reveal towards the end. Animal Crossing is coming yay! But it’s been delayed until next March, ugh. It looks nice though, but being set on a deserted island means it might be... well, deserted. The gameplay they showed after shown off villagers but it was still early in the game so... who the hell knows. I guess we’ll see.
After that (and the Banjo-Kazooie sopmash dlc) it seemed like it was the end of rather stream... until they said there was one more thing. And then they played the best trailer of the whole thing because there’s a breath of the wild sequel coming! And seriously, I got fucking chills! It looks so fucking spooky I love it. (And please let my favourite boy come back!)
After the show was the treehouse showing gameplay of stuff. It showed off some Pokemon (but notmuch), Animal Crossing (as said above) and some of Link’s awakening (though it was just the first village for most of it).
After it I gamed a bit on gamepass games, then finished Taskmaster season 1 before sleeping.
I guess should add other things, but there’s not really been much else to say. The weather has been miserable so we’ve not gone far with Naryu and I’ve been too tired in the afternoons to do any of my reading. I did get the MCR magazine yesterday (thanks love) though I’ve not read it yet. I will after the exam (which, ugh I just want it to be over, I think the nerves from it are throwing me off because I can’t focus on writing). I’m trying to do a Ray fic for seasonofkink but it seems to be going slow. Maybe once the exam is done I’ll feel better.
If anyone feels like doing me a short thing for after it, please do. It would be super awesome.
I’m gonna end now on the June something
11: What is the fandom that you're in, but none of your fen are?
I have to say the Welsh bands. Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout, Funeral For A Friend (And Lostprophets before Ian was a fucking dick. It didn’t used to be that way, I used to have friends into them, but it feels like they have all fallen away (with the deepest cut being the one last year). It really sucks because they’re all great band and I love writing about them but it just feels... the spark is gone because they have left.
Same with a Motionless in white, I love them but after being fucked over I’m not sure I want to write them again.
The New Regime is also criminally underrated, Ilan is amazing.
I can’t think of anything else that fits this for tv and films. I’ve watched some awesome shows on Netflix (The Hollow, Final Space, The Dragon Prince) But none are fandoms I’d want to be in other than watching and appreciating.
I did recently get into listening to King Falls which is a podcast that is similar to Night Vale (small community with strange goings on and the podcast is based on a radio show) but the tone isn’t very different. I’m still pretty early on (around ep 20ish?) But it’s super good.
12: What fandom did everyone else get into, but you never did?
Again I’ll start with bands. Ok back in the day there was (and still is) ‘the emo trinity’. It was My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy. While I was always super into MCR, my love for the other ps wasn’t as strong. I was super into Panic! At the beginning but that started to fall away over the years, especially when they started losing people. When one member leaves early on (and then the replacement and a founding member leave together), well... eh. I dunno why I didn’t get into FOB but something jut didn’t really click. I did recently start listening to the, again though and got super into Mania and stuff.
Now for tv, I’ve mentioned Arrow before (and it seems I’m not alone there, so I won’t go into that). But there are two shows that seem to have a lot of fans that I’ll mention. First, The Walking Dead. I started watching it at the start (before Sky nabbed it) but I quickly found myself losing interest because it was just too... grim and yeah, that’s to be expected from a zombie apocalypse but it just seemed to get more and more grim (and from what I can gather second hand it gets grimmer). I checked out of it fairly early on and I’m glad I did.
The second is Game Of Thrones. It being shown on Sky meant that I couldn’t watch it, but it seems everyone is super into it. I did download and watch some eps (just the first two) but I didn’t get invested and got distracted by stuff. (And, honestly, I’m bad at watching stuff on my laptop). From what I can tell though, it gets grim as well and virtually everyone dies which.., I dunno, I don’t think I could watch. It just seems depressing (though I am glad that the annoying brat died though).
Gaming wise I never really got into the big shooters (like Gears Of Wars) and, honestly, Overwatch. There’s so much hype around it and I love the art and stuff for it... but there’s not much there. I wish there was some kind of story mode to it, that’d be much more fun then what there is
