See how they run

So Tuesday was the Zelda anniversary direct so I watched it live. So here’s my thoughts.

*I loved that it opened with a performance of Zelda music, that was cool (and felt like foreshadowing)
*Starting with news on the movie was good… until it revealed nothing just the title and date which we knew. No pics, no trailer, nothing new, which felt odd
*There was a quick section that speedrun a LOT of reveals. Zelda trading cards coming (I first thought they were stickers), a new Lego set (Link on Epona), a replica master sword and a few things we already knew (figures, amiibo)
*Zelda concert tour next year! I’m hoping there’s more than London (apparently there two Scottish dates so I’m hoping that means Birmingham gets one too)
*2 Physical Ocarinasof time coming, one an instrument, one electronic

The majority was taken with Ocarina Of Time (so nothing about any other game) and it’s coming in November. A chunk of gameplay was shown (perhaps too long), along with some info on specific details. (Cut scenes are voice acted, there’s some new dialogue added, you can hum to play the ocarina)

It does look so beautiful and the locations revealed look so different (especially Kokiri forest and castle town) but there’s no word on if there’s any new locations or anything, though they could just be keeping them secret.

My take is basically that it’s an anniversary year, it makes sense to do a remake based on one of the games for it. And yeah Ocarina makes sense but it has been done before as well. (I did a rough count I’m pretty sure I own ocarina 4 times at this point and I’m sure I’m missing one.) If I’d been asked if I wanted a remaster of Ocarina or something new I’d probably have gone for something new. But also having said that…. This means that Majora’s Mask is likely to be redone too and while that’s also probably unnecessary too I’d love to see my favourite Zelda game looking incredible.

Preorders for it was a nightmare though. Instead of putting it up the same day they put them up yesterday and people had so many issues getting it. It took me about an hour to get through when I got back and physical were gone, but I was able to preorder digital and get the spiritual stone pins (which look really cool).

I ended up not seeing Camp Miasma Tuesday night which felt like a good call, both because of it trying to rain and being so tired. I’m gonna try and see it tomorrow night. I was gonna pair it with Practical Magic 2 (seeing the original tonight) but I think I’ll just see it alone. (Of course I need to check the night train times first)

Yesterday was the trip to Birmingham to see the Mousetrap. We ended up having a wander around Birmingham first of course. I was only intending to get a few things (including the Pokémon pjs, which I saw had come back in stock) but got some more stuff

*Flying Tiger: A Haunted House kit, a fish kit, an excavation thing, a blind box cat
*Primark: The Pokémon pjs, a Pokémon tee (that I didn’t know they had!), an extra large hellfire tee to use as a night tee, Sleep Token Bag, jogging pants
*Lego: a Lego smart play tag polybag
*Tk Maxx: An MR James book of Ghost Stories (with shiny edges!), an Egyptian Mythology book (with Hieroglyphics on the edges) and an Alien book (river of pain)
*Forbidden Planet (by the theater): 3 Star Wars graphic novels (all reduced and in a 3 for 2), one of which was the collection of Return Of The Jedi one shots which I was sexcited to realise (the other was War Of The Bounty Hunters and Hidden Empire, the latter part of a trilogy so I need to find the middle one)

The best finds though were at the other Forbidden Planet. I got an Elder Scrolls book for £4.99 which was cool enough but they had signed copies of Exit 8! (With a £1 off too) so of course I got that. But! They also had Clown In A Cornfield 2 which I’ve been looking for a year! Huzzah! (They also had the new one but not 3, I didn’t get that though)

The show was pretty good, especially the set design which was really nice. It was pretty well acted too, though I think because it’s a one location thing with not much action (similarly to And Then There Were None) it lost mum a bit. But it was good to see it.

(And they’re right Three Blind Mice really is a horrible rhyme when you think on it)

The next Christie adaption they’re doing is The Hollow, but we’ve not booked it yet or anything.

The theatre is also getting Paranormal Activity next month and so had promo stuff for it, so I might look into going if it’s not awkward.

But ugh there was an irritating guy one person over from me that just yammered on during the preshow/intermission about pro Isreal and right wing talking points and just.. ugh.

Once home I watched the Nintendo Direct I missed. There wasn’t anything hugely exciting reveal wise. A lot of it was ports of other things, but it really is a statement that stuff like Witcher 3’s new updated version will be playable on the switch 2. Absolutely bonkers stuff. I think the main thing I liked the look of was the new professor Layton cause of the steampunky vibes. And stuff like Kirby and Tomb Raider look beautiful too.

Then I watched another Strange New Worlds (Four And A Half Vulcans) which was pretty fun, then did daily gaming before ending up being so zzzz.

Today’s plan is most to flop (especially now call is done, though it wasn’t with the usual person it should be), poke my brain and maybe watch something.
