So last night I continued the watch of Doctor Who season 14.with The Robots Of Death. Robots is one of my favourite Old Who eps and watching again reminds me why. The first scene has a great attempt by the Doctor to explain to Leela how the TARDIS is bigger on the inside, using two boxes, it’s clever and I think it’s the only time such an explanation has been done. Leela is great in this, she’s inquisitive and caring and sassy.

Then there’s the setting. A sand miner might not sound the most exciting of locations, but once you see it you can see it’s totally unique. The Art Deco style of the crew rooms is really nice and different. And the costumes are, well they’re certainly different as well. I mean look at this picture of the captain and his snazzy hat. And then there’s the titular Robots which all look great too.

It’s also an enjoyable story with a murder mystery, even though the title does give away that it’s the robots doing the murdering but it’s the why and who that does it. Plus D84 is so adorable and the other characters are great too.

I’m looking forward to watching the special features later, since ?I went too tired to watch them last night.

This morning I was gonna listen to one of the Big Finish Who audios or Magnus archives but I was too snuggled and slept. I came down when I heard mail came (it was animal crossing cards) and was amused cause Naryu had been on the windowsill but made no reaction to the post lady knocking. (And then she went out in the garden and mum panicked but it was cause she’d found a dead bird (it might’ve been one from before that was buried).

I went out to get some things from Home bargains and the queue to get in was longer than before. There were no masks and still no flour or anything but I got most of the other things I was sent for so...

I had a doze after Father Brown, AC and watching NCIS from last night.🖤

I also had a delivery from amazon. I’d ordered the child, a plush one mum’s got me (coming next month and what I thought was the black series the child (to go with my figures). It was the latter that came today and it’s not that. My first hint was the box. The black series Child is tiny but the box was much bigger and then I opened is and instead it’s a different one. It’s still pretty cute but still.

And now today’s June something question.

Is there any fandom that you regret getting into?

None that I can think of. I mean there’s some films/shows that I’ve watched that I regret watching or lost interest in them.

I do regret knowing some people I’ve met in fandom. Some have just been unpleasant or horrible and I wish I’d never known them. Bah.

I’m gonna snuggle now and watch Springwatch and stuff.

It's a sad thing that the primary reason I can think of to regret getting into a fandom would be the other people. Unless, I guess, if a series went wanky and did something shitty that you didn't want to be associated with? Or an RPF person turned out to be an arsehole (hockey fandom had issues with that, I think?).

Good question though

That is a brilliant hat the Captain is wearing.

I do regret knowing some people I’ve met in fandom.

Yeah, not surprised at that answer. It's a shame such horrible people spoil things.

Robots of Death is one of my all-time favourites too! It's just perfect in every way! Well, except that D84 dies. That always makes me so sad. And I think he would have made an awesome companion.

I remember the Robots of DEath as being quite a good story and I had the book as well, because I used to have all of the classic series of who in book form. Tom Baker was my Doctor growing up and I honestly think that he beats the rest into the ground, no matter the story. Also Louise Jamieson as Leela is awesome.

We have all the Virgin Dr Who books at well which are out of print now and quite collectable. Not sure if you've come across them but they are Dr Who lost and missing adventures and they are written for adults. Sylvester McCoy's doctor in them is extremely manipulative.

Apparently he wanted to play the Doctor like that - cynical, worldweary and manipulative but the producers wouldn't let him.

They are definitely worth a read if you can get hold of them.

And there can be some awfully wanky people in fandom. I remember the aggravation that people got for writing kinky fic in SGA and the way that the 'fans' compromised Jared's wedding list in Supernatural and left messages saying that Jared was only marrying Genevieve so she could be a beard for he and Jensen. This is one of the reasons why i only interact with people who I like and who seem reasonable :)
