The past few days haven’t been terribly exciting. Yesterday I went to home bargains when we took Naryu but that just left me drained. Picking up dog food, little a mop bucket and other things tired me out. I also got a cactus growing kit, which I started today (though it seems plant food was missing from it) and pop tarts which I tried last night.
It meant I was tired and dozed in the afternoon instead of writing or reading (and, after Ghost Light, I ended up sleeping early). My Xbox magazine came yesterday and I failed at giving more than a cursory glance over it. Also yesterday was the battlefront update which added BB-8 and BB-9E. This time the new heroes were free so I jumped on heroes and villains to try them. I managed to try them each once, though when I was using BB-8 the game crashed ugh, and they’re actually quite fun to use. I’ll try and use them again soon.
I was thinking of getting a ticket for the Palaye Royale show but, alas, I checked trains and there’s still no late night a Sunday ones. Ugh.
Rest of the post now is gonna be Who thoughts, first about Praxeus, the latest ep and then Ghost Light from the season 26 collection.
So, again, I should’ve done this right after watching but ah well.
Praxeus was an interesting story. Early on I wondered if the ask wearing aliens were trying to stop the infection or had caused it. Turns out, it was a bit of both. In trying to find a cure they bought the infection with them and released it to see what would happen, which... yeah.
It meant that the Doctor and her team were spread out at first, between various locations around the globe, which meant a lot of zipping around in the TARDIS. That did a good job of showing that the threat was global, but it made me wonder why no one else had noticed it was going on.
I liked that we got a same sex couple and that they survived! I was worried when the cop stayed in the shop, thinking he’d die but then the a Doctor saved him at the last second. (Which of course made me think of Adric and it seems from twitter that I wasn’t alone there). In fact I did like all the guest cast, though I wish the alien scientist hadn’t died.
I like the effects of the Praxeus infection too and that the a doctor mentioned Autons while thinking about it. I’m curious about next weeks ep too.
The Doctor Who twitter account said that there’s gonna be a two parter as a finale this year. I suspect that it’s to do with Jack’s lone cyberman warning. (I’ve no idea though, but it seems likely right?)
Last night I continued my watch of the Doctor Who season 26 collection blu ray, which was the second episode Ghost Light. Ghost Light is a bit notorious for being a bit... tricky to follow (so much so that even some of the cast were puzzled). I watched the extended work print version, though since it’s been ages since I saw the dvd version I’m not sure how much different it was. (There were parts were there was a fuzzy bar at the top of the screen which I assume indicated the added parts.)
The story’s focus is on an old Victorian house that’s not what it seems and also evolution. The house is suitably creepy, with lots of stuffed animals and strange goings on. As a set it is quite an impressive one. I liked that it was a story that focussed so much on Ace (and she gets three outfits over the course of this) and it delves a bit into her past as the Doctor tests her in an ‘initiative test’ (though why he does it and how much he knew in advance wasn’t exactly made clear).
All in all then it was better than I remembered it being and there were some good parts to it.
I’m gonna watch the special features on the disc tonight and then next week is The Curse Of Fenric.
