So this isn’t gonna be a proper post (I might do one later). Instead I’m gonna go through the housekeeping checklist of

sunshine_challenge which is due to start next week on the 1st.

This year for it there’s gonna be 7 prompts done through the month of July and here is the master list. The housekeeping checklist isn’t an actual prompt but I figured I’d go through it anyway.

1. Transformative Works Policy + AO3 Profiles

I’ve already done this due to a prior challenge. So it (and my ao3 profile) is on my profile page. Anyone is welcome to do a podfic or art of my stuff as long as they let me know cause I wanna see!

2. Friending Policy

I like getting new friends! So feel free to add me if you want to (this goes in general not just for this). I try and comment regularly on people’s posts and I welcome comments in kind. Part of what I love about dreamwidth is that it’s akin to lj, which I really miss when it was active and everyone was super friendly. I think we could use more of that especially lately.

3. Sidebar + Profile Links

I don’t have a sidebar other than the tag one, but my profile has links to where I am elsewhere (twitter is the main other place that I’m active on)

4. Interests (in profile) + Introductory “About Me” Sticky Page

I regularly update my interests, which amounts to me adding things as they come to mind. I’ve not got a sticky about me page at the moment though I might change that. (Though sometimes first post in the challenge is one.) ~~I might sticky this post and edit an about me section here~~

I’m Stuie, I’m 33 and I’m from the UK. I’m a student with the open university (I just finished a course so I’m gonna be setting up the next one soon). I’m in a poly relationship with two loves and I have a pup, two cats and guinea pig (Naryu, Midna, Leia and Padme). I write fic primarily for The Umbrella Academy and bandom, though I’m taking a break from the latter as I’m disillusioned with the fandom and it’s toxicity.

Main fandoms I’m into at the moment are The Umbrella Academy (which will increase as I do a rewatch before the new series), Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, The Legend Of Zelda and The Magnus Archives (I’m not fully caught up yet though)

Other than fandom stuff I like gaming, reading (though I’ve been bad at it) and nature. I have depression and anxiety (and I suspect other mental illnesses too) so my mood is frequently unbalanced, which sucks. I’m a pretty isolated person usually, so the virus hasn’t really changed that though it has made me much more wary about going out and groups of people.

My dreamwidth is mostly random posts and fic, with occasional discussion posts about particular things and photo posts.

5. Master Lists

I have a master list stickied here but I’ve not updated it in awhile. I’m not sure I will since reading is mostly done on ao3 anyway now.

6. Post Tags

Tags are mostly for fic (fandom, person) but also for when I watch certain things and ramble (picard, doctor who) and there’s ones for the occasional depression post or photo post (which I meant to make weekly but kinda failed at)

7. Current Icons

I’ve meant to get a Picard related icon but never got around to one alas. I might do one for The Umbrella Academy season 2 as well (but alas icon space).

I might edit in descriptions at some point since it’s not something I usually use.

8. Access Filters

I only use the basic ones, public and access list. Public is pretty much everything, which is mostly a mix of rambles, photo posts and fic. Access list is usually used when my mood sinks and I feel like I need to get my feelings out.

Happy new year! I hope everyone and a fun and safe night. I spent it mostly snuggled and watching stuff (we ended up watching Spectre since it was on). Just before midnight we opened the bottle of Kir Royale and drank it while watching the Hootenanny and then I went on Elder Scrolls Online and did a quest on it and getting event tickets. I did finish a Christmas fic and started another so, yay!

Today has been slow so far, I spent the morning snuggling in bed and I read an umbrella kink fill. I’ve walked Naryu now and I’m watching Phineas and Ferb before iplayering some things. Today is new Doctor Who woo!

Anyway! It’s also the start of the snowflake challenge so...

Hi! I’m Stuie, I’m 33 and from the UK. Currently I’m a student with the Open University (currently studying cell biology). It suits me well cause I can do my uni reading at home, often snuggled up and don’t have to deal with people and travelling.

Fandom wise I‘m all over the place I love all kinds of sci fi stuff, like Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who. I like watching stuff on Netflix too. I’m currently watching the second series of Final Space and then I’ll be watching The Good Place, the latest The Dragon Prince as well as the new Lost In Space and The Witcher.

I also listen to a few podcasts, mostly Welcome to Night Vale and I’m currently going through The Magnus Archives which is so awesome and spooopy.

I also game, I’m working my way through Star Wars Fallen Order again soon and I’ve been back on Stardew Valley lately. I’m really looking forward to Animal Crossing this year, yay!

However the ones I write for are Bandom (usually My Chemical Romance and lately Fall Out Boy) and The Umbrella Academy tv show (which is awesome, watch if you haven’t!). I did write stuff for Welsh bands but I’ve not really found anyone that still reads it... I keep hoping to find someone that does but alas.

So what can you expect from my dreamwidth? I tend to ramble about my days sometimes. I also post fic. Occasionally I’ll do thoughts on films I’ve seen and I did ones for the Doctor Who collection blu rays last year as I watched them (I’ll probably do them when I get the new one at the end of the month).

This is my second year doing the snowflake challenge and I’m really looking forward to it since it was so fun last year.

So prompt 2 of the sunshine challenge is about identity. I figure the best way to cover this is to go through the suggested questions from the post so here goes.

What does your username mean?

My username is pretty much as old as I have been active online. I first used it when I set up my livejournal way back in 2004. (The only difference is that it has a _ between the words which I lost later.) The two parts of the name came from different things. The shadow was from my general personality, because I’ve always been quiet shy and kept to the shadows, avoiding people (a defence mechanism from high school). The hive part came from the Resident Evil film (which has a facility in it called the hive), which I guess was on my mind at the time. It ended up sticking and the rest is history really.

How is it pronounced?

It’s pronounded as it’s written so... there’s nothing to really say there.

What's your origin story? Is it fannish?

Honestly, I can’t remember what made me start up at livejournal (a lot has happened in 15 years after all!). I think I pretty much got it as somewhere I could just... ramble. I didn’t start writing until much later.

What is your default icon about? Does it have personal meaning? Why did you choose it? What is it from?

Since these are all about the icon, I’m gonna answer all these in one go. My default icon for dreamwidth is of Jay James, who was the former bassist of Bullet For My Valentine. He was my favourite member of the band and, unfortunately, he has vanished off the face of the earth. I had hoped he’d come back as part of another band, but alas, that never happened. It’s sad because he was talented and sweet and pretty. I miss him. (And still resent Matt, the singer from the band, who I’m sure is responsible for it.)

So when I started up my dreamwidth account (in 2013) it was for the sole purpose of joining kink bingo. As such I only uploaded two icons at the time, Jay and a Waycest one. I never expected to end up using dreamwidth for anything other than that, but eventually I moved over here fully.

So why that picture of Jay to use as a default? I’m not sure. On lj I had the infamous pic of Jay with the drawing of a cock as the default, but for some reason I went with this one. It’s from a photo shoot for an Australian magazine (that I can’t remember) and, although you can’t tell, he has a phone cord around his neck. The whole look of it though, makes it look like he’s having an orgasm, so I guess that’s why Iike it.

I’ve not used the icon in awhile, mostly since I don’t write about him much anymore (mainly because I’m not sure anyone but me cares to read about him anymore) but I’ve used it for this post so you can see it.

Tell us anything else you want to share publicly that would help people know how to interact with you. Preferred pronouns? Do you have a first language other than English?

I’m pretty much an open book. I’ve never been one to compartmentalise, so I tend to have one just account on whatever site I’m on.

I guess I can do an intro thing though. We’ll I’m Shadowhive (or Stuie) I'm 32 and my pronouns are he/him/they. I’m pansexual and currently in a relationship. I mostly use dreamwidth and twitter, though I do use discord and ao3 too. The first fandom I wrote for was Blue, a British boyband and my current ones are My Chemical Romance and The Umbrella Academy. (I have to get back to writing for the latter.) I have anxiety and depression. I’m a student with the open university (currently off for summer so I have to sort out my next course). I’m pretty much a geek, I love sci-fi stuff but especially Star Wars. I game a lot too, though mostly on the Xbox lately. I play all kinds of stuff, Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars battlefront 2 and Call Of Cthulhu being some of the ones I’ve been on lately. (I love Pokemon and Zelda but not been on either in awhile.)

My music tastes are all over the place. Lately I’ve listened to a mix of Kylie, Silverstein, Death Spells, The Used and My Chemical Romance as well as the Solo soundtrack. Filmwise I love Star Wars, Mamma Mia and (most) of the Marvel films. I also like watching horror stuff though I’ve been not as good at watching them lately. Tv is all over the place, with Taskmaster, Killing Eve and Lucifer being current things I’ve been watching.

I only speak English fluently, though I wish I did speak more languages. Sadly they just don’t seem to stick except a few odd words. I have four pets currently, Naryu a 1 year old poodle puppy, Padme a guinea pig and two cats, Midna and Leia.

I think that covers most things though I’m sure I’ve missed something

What does "fannish identity" mean to you?

Honestly I’ve never really thought about it that much so I don’t think I can come up with a good answer to that really.

Yesterday I didn’t do too much after the post last night. I watched The Descendants though and I really love Jay. He’s just so cute and pretty. I can totally see why people ship him and Carlos after watching that. I’ll try and watch the second film soon (probably not tonight though).

I’ve not done much today so far. I might try and write some more later, but I dunno since mum’s friend is here now and she can be loud making it hard to focus.

I feel a bit calmer now, more at ease. I’m still irritated, but the twitter idiots seem to have found other things to focus on.

I’ve realised I’ve posted every day so far this month, mostly thanks to snowflake. Yay? I dunno. I suspect i’ll post less as they year progresses. We’ll see.

I’ve updated my fic master list with the ficlets. Though in the process I accidentally added someone I didn’t mean to. Fuck. I quickly unadded them and it’s not as if they’ll give a fuck but... eh,

There was a tutorial earlier about the project. I’m not the only one that has no fucking idea what to do for it which is... reassuring. I have a vague idea that I might go with now though, that I might grow something but I dunno.

Other than that I’ve not done much today. I wrote a few lines but that’s it really and I watched the usual stuff. The first season of Legends Of Tomorrow finished today (and I’m surprised the second one is starting tomorrow too). Poor Snart. I shoulda expected to get feels for him.

I feel exhausted but I dunno why, maybe dealing with morons drained me. Whatever. I’m gonna watch The Core some more now.
