Snowflake Challenge 2025 - 5+6
Jan. 11th, 2025 01:45 pmSo I missed doing this a few days back (thanks back pain!) so I’m doubling up on snowflake today
Challenge #5
Talk about what has improved in your life thanks to fandom. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I know it’s a basic answer but the friends I’ve met along the way. Sure I’ve met a lot of people who have been terrible or just… vanished into the ether but I’ve also met some nice people that have stuck around and been nice and kind.
(And I know I suck sometimes, especially last year with my depression making me distant and low energy, but hopefully this year will be better)
Also there’s fannish things in general, for providing escapes be it in shows or games to get lost in or gigs (despite being stressful too) and giving me things to look forward to, focus on or distract from the horrors.
Challenge #6
Share your favourite piece of original canon. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Well I’m not sure on my favourite piece of canon cause it’s constantly changing, so I’m gonna switch it up slightly and do my favourite pieces of canon from 2024.
First of is The Acolyte which is my fav Star Wars thing from last year (I’m so sad there’s been no Lego but it’s hard to see what they’d do). It’s really such a great show despite being uneven in some ways. However I’m narrowing it down to a specific episode, Night.
The episode is easily the best of the series and it’s honestly hard to describe what makes it so good without spoilers. Basically it’s an episode long fight between a team of Jedi and the villain of the show and it’s just so…. It had me riverted the whole time and it made me gasp in shock at some of the things that happened. (And yes someone is very very sexy during the whole thing.)
Second is Agatha All Along. I really loved Agatha in Wandavision and the trailer for the show looked really good so I was super excited for it and… damn, it might be my fav show of the year. I came to love all of the main characters so much and it really is at its best when they’re all together bouncing of each other. And, of course, there’s the song! The Ballad Of The Witches Road has been stuck in my head ever since I first heard it and I love it so much.
Lastly there’s Sonic 3 which was the film I was looking forward to most last year because Shadow! And ahh he was so cool, he kicked ass and was just so awesome. Plus Agent Stone got some awesome (and emotional) scenes too! I hope both of them are back in the sequel. One of my fav scenes was right at the start, where Shadow first breaks out and he’s just so… damn.
I’m curious what everyone else liked most from their fandoms last year!
Now I’m gonna bundle up, I might start reading the Agatha Christie January challenge book (Five Little Pigs) or I might fic or just flop. Tonight is the masked singer then I might watch a film (Tarot most likely) or game (Alan Wake II most likely, or Indiana Jones And The Great Circle)

Date: 2025-01-11 02:42 pm (UTC)Agatha All Along is on my very long list of shows to catch up on.
Enjoy Five Little Pigs, I remember that one quite well!

Thanks! Alas I didn’t start it as planned (damn tiredness and then it going dark) but I will soon, the back cover did remind me of the Poirot ep based on it so although I’ll have it in mind I’m curious to read

Date: 2025-01-11 05:00 pm (UTC)Agatha all along looks/sounds so good ; ; I’d love to watch it but idk all the lore that leads up to it so I’d be afraid I’d be lost

Date: 2025-01-11 10:50 pm (UTC)It really is so good! I think it could work as a standalone (the only thing you’d probably need to see is Wandavision at some point cause that’s the only thing it’s really related to!)

Date: 2025-01-12 08:00 pm (UTC)I've just re-read my favourite Christie books, Five Little Pigs among them. It's one of her best, I often think.

Date: 2025-01-13 01:15 am (UTC)Oh nice! The most I’ve read of hers is a few short stories (despite getting a bunch of books over a year ago) so I’m glad I have an excuse. It’ll be interesting reading it cause reading the back cover instantly reminded me of the Poirot ep based on it so it’ll be interesting to read it

Date: 2025-02-10 08:20 am (UTC)I know it’s a basic answer but the friends I’ve met along the way.
I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. Fandom actually introduced me to the concept of online friendships in a way that I hadn't known before, way back in the day it was just merely lurking and occasional interacting but that was it. But fandom was something else, and being able to talk with people who shared a similar fannish interest and gaining friendships that come from that, it was detrimental when I first got into fandom. And while online friendships come and go over time, they've all been special to me. :)
And I hear you on fandom being a form of escapism.
Also, major yes to both The Acolyte and to that episode specifically. (And I want more of it, dammit. I'll forever be bitter with how that show and the actors were treated.)
I’m curious what everyone else liked most from their fandoms last year!
For me, it was Meet You At The Blossom, an uncensored BL cdrama that was filmed and produced in Thailand, and it was something that I was happy about happening while at the same time it was also a pleasant surprise with how obsessed I became with the drama. :D

Date: 2025-02-10 02:39 pm (UTC)That’s so great! I’m really glad fandom has given you that. And I can totally relate to all of that
That episode was so gripping I just couldn’t look away the whole time. And yeah in the run up it was kinda sold as being a one series thing but as it went on I did really hope for more cause it was something different and I’m still pissed it just got screwed over. But I’m both pissed at how everyone was treated and how they didn’t seem to be backed up when people were attacking them, that pissed me off so much. I hope they do end up following it up and bring them back but… ugh
Oh nice! I love how things can just hook you like that and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Date: 2025-02-11 06:56 am (UTC)Yeah, the show had a massive hate campaign against it before it even premiered, and you'd think that Disney would've done something to protect the actors from the hate and harassment that they were getting or make a statement denouncing such things beforehand, but nope. It makes me bitter and angry that they just let this all slide and cancelled the show so abruptly when there was no reason to. There was a fan campaign to help save the show and many articles were written to defend the show from the unfair cancellation. I don't know if they'll bring it back, or bring any of the characters back for future installments, like Qimir, for example, since he was quite a breakout character (and I would love to see Manny in the role again). It seems unlikely, unfortunately.

Date: 2025-02-12 01:31 am (UTC)Yeah it was kinda unavoidable and I hated that. Like fine if you don’t like something but people were hating it before it even started and I couldn’t understand why. (Yeah I know it’s bigotry but I still don’t get it)
And exactly! Especially after how Reva’s actress got treated during the Obi-Wan series too you’d think they’d have learned but…. Instead it felt like they abandoned them and quietly shelved it which pissed me off.
Yeah I’d love for there to be more honestly! Maybe they can da follow up show somehow just by another name (and yes! Qimir was amazing and I’d love to see Manny return as him!) I really hope they do something but…
I know there’s books planned this year (both prequels) and a guide, so I’ve got them all ordered hoping that’ll help somehow. (I’ve got some of the figures too and I’m so baffled there’s not a Qimir one yet like?? They made his helmet but haven’t even announced him yet??)
And oop that was a ramble but yeah I absolutely agree, the way the show was treated was unfair from the start and things should have gone so much better.😔
