Time for a post, cause it’s been awhile and the last one was mostly squeeing over getting my Set It Off ticket

First off last week, during Owen’s birthday stream, he did a contest using marbles on stream races and somehow I won! So I’m getting a set of his pins which is cool! (I think they’re the new ones he’s revealing tomorrow.) I didn’t think I’d win despite coming first in one race and fourth in another (cause I didn’t place in the others) but somehow I did. It was funny though, I got hit by an ad just as the races ended so I was very confused as to why people were saying my name in chat until they ended!

(Now I’ll see which come first these Owen badges or the Seapeekay ones I’ve been owed for months!)

The weather these past days has been so annoying and changeable, one day it’ll be ok the next it’ll be stormy and then yesterday and today it’s been really hot. Ugh that heat has been draining.

It was even worse yesterday cause we had to pick mums meds up and ended up getting a bunch of things which was tiring and weighed us down. (I didn’t get anything too exciting just the regular Lego magazines and two Pokémon mega sets, plus some chilli mango thing to try).

Monday had mum’s friend come, which I expected to mean I’d be sent out but I wasn’t. Though ugh I had to cover something she wanted that she decided on just before she left which was annoying. Tuesday was a library trip which was last minute foisted on me, but it meant I read my book some more so…

Also Tuesday was the Nintendo direct which was pretty good, though my main highlight from it is the new Zelda game which looks pretty cool. It’s gonna be interesting playing as Zelda this time and I’m curious about the echos she can make, I guess they’ll be a proper direct focussed on it before release.

Tuesday night Deep Space nine started (taking over from Stargate Universe that finished Monday though ugh it ended so inconclusively which isn’t a surprise cause it was cancelled between season so they had no warning) and I was debating watching but decided I should cause it’s deep space nine and it’s awesome. (Kira and Jadzia are my favs, though honestly everyone is so amazing in it).

Thoughts on other things are gonna be under the cut now. These are gonna be, in rough order, American Horror Story: Murder House, Doctor Who (The Legend Of Ruby Sunday, Pyramids Of Mars), The Umbrella Academy (cause I finally watched another ep), Still Wakes The deep, The Acolyte.

So first is American Horror Story’s first season, Murder House. As I mentioned when I started watching, it’s been something that’s been on my radar for awhile but I’d not gotten round to watching until now. Last Thursday I watched (with [personal profile] fleshdoll) the last two eps of the season.

On the whole, I really enjoyed it and it’s a very strong start for the show as a whole. They played into so many of the haunted house tropes, but it also felt very much like its own thing as well. And, of course, a lot happened over the course of the run of episodes. Of course the important thing with something like this is to get the set right and they did such a great job with that house. And everyone was so amazing, even though the family kept ignoring the countless red flags about the place.

It did leave it a bit open ended about the nature of the house itself and why all the ghosts were trapped there. Was the hosue (or the location it was built on) always evil or did it become that way because of the bad things that happened? Also the fact that the baby plot line was left as hanging thread feels like a strange choice (though apparently it does get picked up in a later season so I’m interested to see where that goes). I’m sure I had other questions but I can’t think of them now.

I’m curious to see what the other series are like, though alas tiredness and other things has delayed that this week

On Saturday was the new Doctor Who ep, the first of the two part season finale. It’s really felt like this series has gone by so quickly and, like other people have said, it still feels like we don’t quite have a handle on 15 and Ruby. But alas here we are and it was a pretty strong finale.

It was an ep that really played with expectations in a way, playing with the fact that S Triad was an anagram of Tardis and also that Susan had the same name as the doctor’s grandaughter, both of which were red herrings. It also, unexpectedly, gave an answer to 73 yards: the distance isn’t as random as expected, it’s how far Ruby’s mother was from the camera footage of her.

The ep was mostly build up to the reveal at the end and damn that speech from Harriet gave me chills. (Though I also loved the Time Window section that felt very much like the ring video.) Also they’re using Mel so well again, I’m really glad they bought her back. (Rose, on the other hand, felt like such an odd inclusion.)

There was a mystery Tales Of The Tardis that was announced for yesterday that was revealed to be Pyramids of Mars (because of the reveal) which made so much sense and I wish they’d done that before when they bought old Who races back. It’s a pretty good episode and it was so nice to see Sarah Jane again (and the new scenes with 15 and Ruby at the start on the end gave me such feels). Of course, despite the title said pyramids aren’t actually seen which feels like a missed opportunity. Obviously I love that the ep plays into the Egyptian aesthetics, though the mummy robots are pretty funny cause they’re so… stacked. (And how they crush that one guy between them!)

I finally got back to The Umbrella Academy with the Worlds biggest ball of twine, which again threw up some more questions (mainly Klaus finding out that their parents all died) and ugh it looks like Lila has stolen the case they need to fix things, ugh I really dislike her. Also it was sweet how the Viktor thing was handled cause I was worried it’d just be a sudden random thing that came out of nowhere so they worked it in better than I expected.

On Tuesday Still awakes The Deep came out and to game pass, which is a game I was really looking forward to since I’d heard of it. It’s a horror game set on an oil rig and something bad happens, caused by the drilling. What the bad thing is I don’t really know but there’s a weird fleshy thing in the rig and some people have been turned into monsters. I’m definitely curious to play more and see how it plays out, because it looks so great. Hopefully I can go on it some more this weekend (though that depends on the Isle Of Woght festival coverage I’m watching).

Lastly is The Acolyte which was a pretty good ep though the last scene was obviously the best, with the reveal of the master (which people are calling Darth teeth) and how he effortlessly brushed off the Jedi. Obviously there’ll be a fight next week and I’m so curious how it’s gonna pan out. Also interesting was the scene of the Jedi being all concerned about keeping the whole thing under wraps which definitely feels kinda shady. (Though it does seem the Jedi as a whole don’t know whatever actually happened all those years ago).

Anyway now I’m gonna bundle up, watch the Isle Of Wight Festival coverage (I’m hoping they’ll show some of James Marriott’s set though I dunno) and maybe work on something, though my mind has been annoyingly scattered lately

aww i hope your pin sets arrive soon :]

i do think that a lot of red flags were ignored in murder house lmao but not any more than your average haunted place horror movie. and yeah michael langdon does come back but it’s not until ahs apocalypse (which people seem to either love or hate, and the ones who love it usually feel that way because of michael in particular, or at least that’s the vibe i’ve gotten lmao.) i’ve never watched it myself but that’s mainly bc im so tired of post apocalyptic settings lmao i am simply just bored of them. 😭

i don’t think I’ve watched tua since like… s2 ep1?? rip i remember feeling the cohesiveness of s1 wasn’t there and it was like a million things were going on at once in a way that didn’t work for me 😔 (like im pretty sure idek who lila is lmao) BUT im super glad that they handled viktor’s coming out well and it’s rly cool that Elliott gets to play a character that shares his gender id :]

Congrats on the win!

One of the things I enjoyed about the Horror Stories series was seeing how all the different actors were used in each new series, and how different characters kept turning up. It was interesting seeing each new telling, and while I didn't like them all, I was always impressed with the creativity.

I'm so glad I came back to DW this year as I've enjoyed this series so much! I actually watched it live last night and wasn't disappointed.
