Now my energy’s depleted

Gig post! There’s a few non-gig things to post about but they’ll be in a separate post, probably tomorrow (depending on when I post this and how tired I am when I get back to tomorrow.
Cause of mum’s fall taking up all my anxiety (as well as her and my doctors appointments), Ididnt have pre gig anxiety like I usually do. It also meant I had done no pre gig planning. If I’d had thoughts I might have gotten a phone with a camera, sorted wellies and managed to hunt down my Set It Off tees (both have vanished which is annoying cause one was brand new)
Anyway, yesterday (Saturday) was spent travelling. My friend picked me up to go and the journey was uneventful. It was nice seeing the green stuff go by and I read some of my who magazines (the Rogue in doctor who is played by kristoff from Frozen??). We did stop at the services and I got some Lego magazines, though I wish I’d used the cash machine so I’d had money on me for the festival.
When we arrived we both rested up, she had a lil doze and I shut down too for some reason. I’m wondering if it’s the meds I got put on cause I was yawning like crazy too which is a side effect I’ve had before. I’m glad I’d decided to hold off on the new antidepressants to avoid anything from those, cause I feel they would’ve hit me.
We had food, though it was only ok (and it meant missing new Who which is a shame, though from what I can tell it’s very polarising). Then when we got back to the room I was a bit zoned out. I did managed to watch some of Krow’s stream and felt so bad for it cause it sounds like it had whatever sickness I had the other month.
After sleeping (not great, I couldn’t settle maybe causa the strange bed. It was time for Slam Dunk, which is under the cut cause rambling. (If you just wanna see merch, it’s here
There was already issues in the morning, the car park was closed at the last minute due to rain, so we had to make alternate arrangements in town which was a pain but we managed to get there ok. Though ugh, cause of the rain the whole place was so muddy and slippery and, ugh. I almost went down a few times but didn’t thankfully.
My first band was Caskets, who were a band I didn’t know to well but had heard on Spotify after playing something else and I liked their stuff. Their set was pretty good, though I only recognised the last two songs (though they were good ones!) and the band was a local one. I liked that the singer thanked the bands tech and behind the scenes people, that was sweet.
After then I had a bit of time so I had a wonder round to check merch. I’d hoped to have some idea beforehand from the south festival, but Wi-Fi was terrible there so there wasn’t much to go from (other than parx and the blackout). I managed to find the tent that had a lot of bands merch and picked up a few things (see merch link above). I got a bunch of parx stuff, then a Blackout tee (though now I’m kinda wishing I got another one instead), an Asking tee (which I was worried I’d regret though it looks cool) and a caskets cd (and a cool tarot card! I kinda wish I’d got more than one cause they were so pretty but they felt like a lot). I also almost slipped in front of Jay, the blackout’s me4ch guy which was embarrassing but he liked my Ranboo hoodie which was nice.
After that I debated getting churros or fudge from the stands I saw and settled on fudge which I’m kinda regretting. The pieces are absolutely huge and so are a bit unwieldy (i only had one), so I’ll take them home and get them cut up into more manageable pieces. But also we do not talk about how much the fudge was🫣
Then it was time for Set It Off, who were one of my main draws for the festival. Cody instantly owned the stage as soon as he came on and he was so damn good. They played a fair few songs although most of their stuff was the new singles. There was no Lonely Dance, nor anything from Elsewhere which I thought was a bit odd. They did play a Linkin Park cover though which was so well done, though also a lil strange they’d give that a slot over their over stuff. Also I felt so bad for them, during their last song (punching bag) the sound completely cut out so all you could hear was Maxx’s drumming😥. I did have a decent view for them too though wish I was closer. Also they announced they’ll be touting in January which I’m gonna make everyone’s problem.
When they finished I went to the fearless records booth which was near the stage but had been having card issues all day (maybe cause they were at the outskirts of the venue). I’d checked in a few times to see if they’d been sorted and they finally were now, though it still took two readers to get mine working (it thought I was from another country!) I got an I prevail cd and, oddly (but good!) the new Kill The Lights. I also got their last Elsewhere tee which made me happy (and I got a discount cause it was the pinned one and a lil scuffed)
After calling mum to check on her I went to see The Blackout. They’re always a good time with their silly banter and mic swinging (and Sean jerking it off too). They played the best in town in full cause it’s 15 years old (which makes me feel old too😭) which is good cause it’s probably their best album but is a shame there wasn’t anything else added at the end causa time.
Then I went for more merch, I got the sole Set It Off tee the merch had (which is a shame they only had one design) and missed out on getting a long sleeve festival tee which was cool but they only had small. Sadly while waiting in line I heard the main stage had tech issues with sound cutting out about three times. I felt so bad for the band. Then I went to find food. It was between a Greek wrap and burrito and I went with the wrap and it was… ok, nothing special (a shame cause it had halloumi but which did they put chips in the wrap??). Festival stuff kinda feels like that though, expensive and not worth it but necessary.
Then the rain hit again in a big way, just as I decided to get a drink. (A pineapple/raspberry one but it tasted more like grapefruit ugh) I managed to seek shelter and it eased off but it made the whole place even worse.
Next was Asking Alexandria, who were delayed due to tech issues. They seemed to play pretty well but the set was mostly ones I was unfamiliar with which was a shame. I’d have got closer to get a better look at Cameron but it felt too risky cause it was a slope and all the mud, ugh. It probably didn’t help at this point I started to get a headache right before they started playing which sucks. (Though thankfully I put the parx hat on during palaye so that helped.)
As soon as they finished I rushed (carefully!) to see Palaye Royale. I’d missed the start of their set (I think just some of the first song though) and Rem was looking cute in a crop top (which he removed part way though). Sebastian did most of the crowd interaction though, which was nice. Most of the songs were newer ones which I’m not so familiar with but they did play them well. And damn I unexpectedly got feels from Fever Dream (their last song, dedicated to their recently passed mum).
Next was Funeral For A Friend, though I could only see part of the set due to timing issues. Though that’s probably for the best. Inexplicably they’ve got a new singer for these shows, so I was wary about them. And damn was I right, I only caught four full songs and he was so… it felt like he but he’d them especially Oblivion, the last one I heard. It especially sucks cause most of the songs I did catch are ones I like so it’s so depressing hearing their done so badly.
However next were Parx, in the same tent I saw Palaye. And damn, they put on such a great show it made me feel bad I missed them last tour (I’m going to the next one definitely). For some reason Awsten came onstage in a sparkly red mask, which made the first song a lil muffled (he posted it on insta). I love that Geoff had elevated bits to stand on, though he also sat in front of Otto’s kit and played a song or two there. But ahh their whole set was awesome and I’m glad I got the best spot of the festival for it.
Awsten was very chaotic. He asked how many people came in from the rain (there was no rain at this point) then asked how many people came for Geoff and people cheered. He bought up Geoff a lot, about five times, asking people to cheer for him which was sweet. He also wished he was able to see All American Rejects (specifically dirty little secret) and suggested we all should go ‘because whose going to stop us’ and wanting us to form a barrier around him as he did😭 I really love his chaotic energy. (They didnt play crave or not warriors sadly but I didn’t expect them to) though I danced so much it was great. I think they were my fav of all the bands (coupled with Set It Off, which I fully expected). Also Otto looked HOT his curled looked so pretty (Jawn and rock sound please post pics)
I managed to catch some of I Prevail’s set which I was glad for though I do wish they weren’t clashing so I could’ve seen more. I’ve not known them too long but what I’ve heard is so great and i loved all the visuals they used for it. (Especially the one which told a story before a song that had such a vibe). Alas I was pretty far back but they still put on such a good set from what I saw.
Thankfully we were able to get the the shuttle bus before things went crazy. (Id wanted to avoid you me at six so was glad the only song of theirs was the one I remember liking) and then we made our way back to the hotel. But ugh I’m aching so much after standing for so long.
I’m gonna try and sleep now but I wanted to get my words out before I forgot things (and cause, whcih I feel achy tired I didn’t feel sleepy tired).
Short version it was fun, despite the mud and sudden bursts of rain and I got to see all the bands I wanted to (i might have tried to see all American rejects if they weren’t clashing) and now am tired.
Tomorrow is mostly gonna be travelling, the Seapeekay 12 hour stream then Who watching. Maybe (cause im too tired despite downloading it to iplayer’s app)

Date: 2024-05-28 01:00 am (UTC)Anyway, idk I think the Linkin Park cover was a good inclusion for the normies like me!
I was really happy that Danny was on form for AA, he sounded really good and I love that they're including Paul and giving him a bigger role, the back and forths between him and Danny were life, especially in Dark Void 😭❤️
I Prevail used the storytelling visuals for quite a few song intros, it's all lyrics from their Fear Of Letting Go track. Ugghhhh they were just life, still not over how good they were, massive pick me up after how disappointing FFAF were too

Date: 2024-05-28 09:10 am (UTC)Oh yeah it was a good inclusion! I just would’ve liked another song as well heh
Yeah I’m glad they played so well! I think that was definitely a fav one and yeah I’m glad Paul’s included too💜
Oh nice! I loved the main one I got to see, I do wish I’d got to see more but timing. I’m so glad that they were so good, especially cause I knew how disappointed you were with funeral (😭😭)
Thanks so much for it🖤

Date: 2024-05-28 10:13 am (UTC)yeah last time he was just hidden at the back. yeah he is still hidden at the back but he does have a bigger role. hopefully with the next album cycle they'll promote him to a proper member but we'll see
yeah for me the band of the festival. i was a little worried about them being without brian, and i think they probably would have been even better with him, but eric completely carried the band and it was awesome

Date: 2024-05-28 12:39 pm (UTC)Oh nice! I didn’t notice him too much, but mostly my eyes tracked Cameron and Danny hee. I hope so! It kinda feels inevitable from how much he worked on the last album and such
Yeah that’s fair to have worried about! But I’m so glad they were so good! 💜I definitely loved what I saw of them

Date: 2024-05-28 03:44 pm (UTC)Tbh I mainly watched him for the whole set 🤣 he was so into it, way more energetic than he was last time as well. Made me happy 🥰
I'm really pleased they were so good. Great setlist too, like I said, they favoured the heavier ones but that's all good with me

Date: 2024-05-30 12:49 pm (UTC)Of course! Awww I’m so glad he was so into it, hopefully next time he’ll be a bit more center stage💜
I’m so glad! I know you were a bit worried about them too so I’m glad they turned out to be so great!

Date: 2024-05-30 01:34 pm (UTC)I think they were like...my "least" worry. If that makes sense. I knew Eric could do it, I was just worried we'd lack Brian's parts, but between him and Dylan they ironed out the creases and still delivered anyway. Really happy ♥
