I had meant to do a post yesterday for song Saturday too but I didn’t feel up to it so didn’t.

Instead the next June post is about this

So for June we’re gonna watch the Indiana Jones films before the new one comes out and we see it in the cinema. We’re watching it on Disney+ since the films have been added there now. I don’t own the films bar crystal skull alas. Usually we watch the films when they’re on tv, which they tend to do a run of at some point (and likely will before the new one comes out) so I’ve not felt the need to buy them.

(Although this is mostly about Raiders I do enjoy them all, even though Temple is obvious the weakest one at least it has Indiana shirtless and sweaty.)

So yeah today we watched Raiders. I kinda wanna get the new Lego set they did of the opening scene, because it looks so cool and has a bunch of features which is nice.

Anyway, watching Raiders today reminded me of a twitter thread I read once. It was around one of the times it was on tv and I can’t remember the exact post (of course because it was awhile back) but I do recall the basic gist of it.

If Indiana had stayed at the university the plot would have gone exactly the same way.

The nazi’s would have gotten ahold of the ark regardless of his involvement and when they did they would have taken it to that island, opened it and got their faces melted. Indiana’s presence didn’t prevent them getting ahold of it (despite the mayhem his presence caused) and even in the climax he’s tied up and unable to prevent it.

Arguably the only thing he contributed was getting the the ark locked up in a warehouse at the end (but even that might have happened regardless) and, of course, keeping Marion alive (since the nazi’s likely would have killed her without him(

I remember reading that thread and thinking it was such a wild thing to think about, that a film’s protagonist could just be removed from the situation entirely and the same thing would result.

Like I said I’m gonna watch the other films over the next weeks (probably alternating days on the weekends) but I just figured this was such a wild thing I had to share.

(And it’s also impressive that Harrison Ford did his own stunts and the scene of him just shooting the sword guy was his suggestion too [cause he was sick alas])

Minor edit: it’s also made me wonder if there is actual tombs with traps. It’s such a common trope it makes me wonder if there’s ever been an actual one.

I dunno what I’m gonna do with the rest of the night, I’m a bit tired but we’ll see,

I love the Indiana Jones movies and it's been so long since I did a rewatch! I should do that soon.

I think every time I'm in the mood for something like Indiana Jones I end up watching The Mummy instead and that's why it's been so long since I've rewatched Indy XD

Raiders may be objectively the better movie but Temple will always have a special place in my heart, maybe because I remember it more being a bit older when I first watched it. I'm not sold on seeing the latest at the cinema but might reconsider :)
