shadowhiveFriday night I did another hunt for the missing new pod thing before deciding to give up. I checked Amazon, just to see how much a replacement would be, and it turned out there was another time limited money off voucher on it like I had when I got it last time. (I honestly don’t know where they come from because I’m not told about any of this and only stumble on them) the discount was more than the last one was, making it almost half off so I decided to say fuck it and order it.
Now watch as I find the missing one over the coming days.
Anyway yesterday we went to Birmingham for free comic book day and it was a good job we did because it meant we missed all the coronation nonsense. There wasn’t much up about it in Birmingham. A few shops had decorations int he windows but not many. I expected there to be something in the bullring but there wasn’t. I expect if there was anything it would be at the square near the museum but we didn’t go anywhere near that way so I’m not sure (though cause of the rain I doubt anything was there).
On the train I’d also took my switch to see if I could finally get the cafe remix updated sorted. For some reason it refused to download at home so I figured I’d try other wi fi and it worked first time to my surprise and annoyance. Months of events missed because it was being so odd. Ugh.
Anyway for Free comic book day I hit up the two forbidden planets. The first lets you pick (but only three) so I was able to get guarantee I got the main ones I wanted (Umbrella Academy, Star Trek and Animal Crossing). Nightmare there wasn’t the Star Wars one (for someone reason they never make it over here) nor the Nightmare Before Christmas one (which was more odd). I might look them up. I got the Frog Lady funko from there, but I didn’t see anything else to get (I should’ve got another thing cause there was a raffle if you spent £20 but there wasn’t any indication of that there).
At the other forbidden planet you’re instead given a bag which contains a bunch of random ones. This also included Umbrella Academy as well as some other ones (mostly marvel and DC, but also street fighter and another one). From this one I also got the Dungeons And Dragons movie prequel comic as well as two of the Return of the Jedi one shot comics (Lando and Jabba’s Palace) and two reduced Doctor Who graphic novels (including a third doctor one I’d been looking for). I also got some comic grab backs which mostly had random ones cause there were offers on them which included some nice variants and such (though why does the cover of the second Batman one in this pic looking kinda…). I was also hit by an additional charge from this one as one thing was scanned twice which I’m glad I checked the receipt so I could get that sorted.
Then we hit the bullring and I got the lego key ring I wanted to get (yay Fennec Shand! Though I also got an Ahsoka one too). I had hoped to get the night sushi cat I saw at lovejoy but they didn’t seem to have any (or moved them) booo. Last stop there was the entertainer and I got some reduced things, the lego tie bomber one of the new Mario blind boxes and a funko of B2EMO from Andor.
Then after eating we went to see the new Guardians film (thoughts under the cut).
Right front the opening it kinda sets the tone for the whole thing. The opening song for this one was less upbeat than prior ones and more sad. Which I guess was fitting as this was billed as the last Gaurdians film.
As it was meant to be the last one I did expect there to be losses from the team and, indeed, it felt that most of them could have died over the course of the film. Thankfully they all survived till the end, so they could in theory come back. I hope so because the guardians films are the ones I enjoy the most (I think I part due to it being in space and far removed from the earth stuff).
I actually got super emotionally a few times too. Poor Floor, they deserved better. And the high evolutionary is a total evil bastard prick. But I loved the Nebula got to be a badass a few times over the thing.
I was surprised that there were two surprisingly gory scenes, especially since this was a 12 rated film. I wonder how they managed to keep them in and not bump the rating up (especially the second one)
I do think they could’ve used the return of the high priestess (and Warlock) better. It felt like Warlock was gonna be a bigger issue then he was which felt a shame.
I’m sure I had other thoughts but I can’t really think what they were now (possibly causa feeling tired) so I’m gonna leave my guardians thoughts there. I do hope we see them show up again, there is a promise of a legendary star Lord return though what that means I’m not sure. (I’ll be honest, I don’t think a so,o Star Lord film could work but does the legendary addition mean it’ll be someone else?)
I’m all achy and tired today which is to be a bit expected but is still annoying. The pod thing should come today, along with the high republic graphic novel (I’d hoped to get it yesterday but had no luck). I checked to see if the Disney order tracking had been updated and it says ‘we need you to take action’ without giving any up hint as to what action to take It’s also odd cause the delivery driver Evri always uses knows exactly where we live so that shouldn’t be the issue. There was a chat bot thing so maybe it’s sorted? I dunno.
I might start reading some of the comics today (or tomorrow) or build some of the Lego in a bit.
This week I’m gonna try and speedrun the last few things on Pokémon violet and maybe fic (though fic energy has been hit by the drained feeling) but it’s also Eurovision this week and Zelda, both of which will be huge distractions. I’m not sorry for the person I will become when I find Prince Sidon again

Date: 2023-05-09 10:09 am (UTC)That's so often the case. James had to buy a new driver's licence a few weeks ago as we looked all over and couldn't find his. So he paid for a new one, only for the old one to turn up under the stair lift a couple of days later.
But I loved the Nebula got to be a badass a few times over the thing.
Yes! I loved that!
Also, I forgot to say in my post but I also think Warlock was underused. I know he had some key parts, but only minor ones and I kept forgetting about him until he popped up again.

Yeah, he kinda appeared as a major threat in the first fight then kinda got…. Underused which was a shame
