So today was the day of Naryu’s surgery and it seemed to be ok. She was very much her usual self, if a bit more snuggly than usual (though it could be due to the colder weather). Mums friend from the library gave us a lift so we’d not have to walk her down and they offered to pick her up later if able (mums other colleague from the library had offered too if need be).

So we dropped her off and everything seemed fine. Mum’s friend had to pop to town to drop charity money off so we went and I picked up a few things, some stuff from Iceland, the Doctor Who special from smiths and mum’s card.

And then when we got home I checked the phone and there was a missed called from a few minutes prior. I assumed it was an update to say everything had gone fine and a time to come pick her up.

Of course that’s not what it was.

Because no, when they were shaving her fur off they found another thing, a lump or something on one of her nipples. It could be hormones or something, which would fade after she’s been spayed. Or it could be something else.

And of course this makes me panic, because that’s like the worst thing it could be. And then they say how much it is, which is more than double the cost of what it was gonna be.

And just…. Mum took the phone then and I’m still shaking, still panicking. I’m just… my poor girl. I hope she’ll be ok.

I dunno how we’re gonna cover it, I assume we can pay some now some later, because mum took over and talked with them then but it’s still. I hate having to put the ko-fi back for her but…. here it is

We had her home yesterday and she’s currently having a snooze. She’s gotta be inside for awhile (so no walks) which is gonna be an issue later

Oh no! Most vets will let you pay in installments (you basically end up with an account with them and make payments as you can). They understand that sometimes money is an issue but pet health can't wait.

Is she home now? Do they have a better idea of what they found?

Yeah they’ve let up us split it, so we’ve paid over half and the rest in a month but still..l it was a shock.

She’s home now, curled up and sleeping. But no, we don’t really know what it was

At least it's done. Brain has a million health issues, which make me so glad we took insurance, even though pet insurance is a goddamn scam in a lot of ways, but it's scary as shit when they're ill and you don't know what to do.

Don't stress about it. It's done; keep an eye open for any other lumps that show up, just in case, and enjoy the snuggling!

Hopefully *hugs* awww no that’s sucky 🥺 apparently the issues with Naryu (the hernia, the mystery lump) were more likely cause we hadn’t had her spayed… but when we were looking into getting her spayed that’s when the pandemic happened and fucked things up

I hope none show up, I think the problems were was the positioning, when they could easily be missed as just a nipple if felt. She’s currently having a doze next to me.🖤

Eh, dogs can get health issues, spayed or not, and there are good arguments to also not spay, depending on the dog . Don't feel as though you have to excuse it (both of mine were neutered before I got them and too young, I think, and it's impacted on their development).
