So Eve Of The Daleks just finished and I have thoughts, which are behind the cut for those that haven’t seen it.
So the ep was pretty good. It managed to stand on its own, despite having some aftermath from the flux (fixing the tardis, the daleks being pissed about the destruction of their warfleet). The ep is basically a time loop, which is obvious from the ep, and it’s just daleks, the tardis team and two people from the storage center.
Now it could be annoying having such a limited cast, but thankfully the two guests were awesome, especially Aisling Bea who was great (telling a Dalek to shoo for one). And their chemistry was, thankfully, good enough that their final scene together felt right. (I was so glad that both of them lived at the end of the loop).
I suspected the daleks were there to get something from the storage center, but it quickly became clear they were actually an executioner squad to kill the Doctor, having detected her tardis. Does this mean that they will keep coming? After all their whole thing this ep was daleks learn and don’t give up. But of course they will, because you can’t behave them in every ep. I do wonder if they went after the sontarans first, after all this was all the flux thing was their idea
Their was actually a surprisingly heartfelt moment in the ep, between Dan and Yaz, where Dan asks the simple question ‘does she know?’ And with that 13/Yaz people rejoiced as it was confirmed. Whether the doctor feels the same however wasn’t confirmed (I half expected them to kiss at the end) but we’ll see if it gets addressed going forward.
But yeah, overall it was a pretty solid ep….
And then right after the credits, it started the trailer music. I wasn’t sure if there would be one because I didn’t know when the next ep would be but it looked pretty cool. It looked all piratey, so maybe it’s about that famous Asian pirate lady. The subtitle was ‘the legend’ and that felt suitable…
And then in the last scene it shown something walked towards the screen and they came into focus and it became the legend of the sea devils. Sea devils are back, let’s go! They’re one of the old Who races I’ve really wanted back so I honestly squeed to see them back. I hope that they decide to bring out series 9 as a collection blu ray because it’s their first ep.
But ahhh! Bring on spring!
So since we’re talking about things, here’s some thoughts about the first ep of The Book Of Boba Fett.
So yes this is kinda faily cause it’s a few late so I’m a bit fuzzy but here’s some thoughts on it.
People did expect that it would have flashbacks and I was kinda iffy, but it turned out to have them. It shown a brief shot from Kamino and Geonosis, then went to how a boba escaped from the sarlacc, lost his armour and got taken by tusken raiders. I’m not sure how I feel about that, although the creature at the end is pretty cool. I do hope that most eps aren’t so reliant on flashbacks though.
So onto the ‘present’ day part of it, which I think is the better part. Fennec and Boba together is just so awesome, I love their interactions and I’m so glad Fennec has equal billing to Fett, because honestly, I think it’d be boring without her (and Ming Na is awesome).
And also nice, a topless Twilek guy. And double awesome Max Rebo’s back! (Just how many people survived the sail barge blowing up and how?)
So yeah I’m definitely curious. Though it was a bit strange how something things were like ‘oh the trailer only had stuff from the first ep cause there’s gonna be a big reveal at the end’ and there just wasn’t. M which I’m not sad about but it was in my mind a bit.
Anyway gonna watch bake off now, then taskmaster and maybe try to fic,
