Prompt 1: Hades
Hades is the god of the dead and the king of the Underworld with which his name became synonymous. Despite modern connotations of death as evil, Hades was actually more altruistically inclined in mythology; his role was often maintaining relative balance between the realms. He was often depicted as cold and stern in his judgement, and he held all of his subjects equally accountable to his laws. Above all else, Hades ensured the finality of death and that none of his subjects ever left the Underworld.

So when I first saw this I wasn’t sure exactly what to do, especially since I’d covered death a bit recently both in June something and a locked posted a few days back.

But then I saw someone mention Hades the game and figured that would be a good thing to cover.

I got Hades on the switch after seeing people hype it up (and catching it in a sale) and in some ways it’s not a game I’d usually get. Games where you go through and then have to start all over again when you die are usually so frustrating to me, but there’s just something about Hades. For one it has a lot of personality to it and everyone that you meet. For two no two runs are ever the same, because you never know what boons you’ll end up getting. And for three, yes, everyone is hot (which leads to there being a lot of horny art which I’m so glad about). Plus, you can pet the dog!

I’ve never actually completed a run yet. I’ve got to the final boss, Hades, twice but he’s beat me each time which is frustrating. And I’ve also only recently encountered Thanatos who I know you can romance. (I wish they’d let you romance Hypnos as well).

The game’s art style is so pretty too, especially the character portraits and the variety of weapons and boon are everything make, as I’ve said, every run different. Often when I play, even though I die, I find myself wanting to go back again.

It’s coming to game pass on Xbox next month and I’m looking forward to doing it all over again on that and hope the achievements aren’t too hard.

People that have played it, what’s your fav weapon and stuff?

Another game that I like on game pass is called Monster Train which is a similar in some ways (it’s set in the underworld, you have to start all over again if you die) though its set on a train and it’s card based. I’m not sure how to describe it but it’s fun and I’ve managed to beat it once (but it’s very tough and easy to die)

And another game on game pass that represents death is Dead By Daylight, which I went on yesterday cause it’s the fifth anniversary of the game and there’s some stuff for logging in. I’m not too great on it, in fact I have no idea what I’m doing and every time I died. But hey, at least the first two deaths were pyramid head and nemesis. Has anyone been on it and got tips?

The past few days I’ve felt a bit woozy which has been so annoying. I hate how bleh I’ve felt. It’s meant I’ve had no focus to read or watch anything in the afternoons which is annoying cause I really want to get into Into The Dark.

Build a bear have posted two new Star Wars plushies, a Loth Cat And a Jawa both are so cute! I really want to get the Loth Cat especially.

I’ve ordered a funko to try and do as a Bert cause someone on twitter suggest I try though I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m sure I’ll mess it up when I try.

Pokemon made yesterday Bidoof day and no one had any idea why. Everyone was very puzzled but they put a lot of effort into it, including merch and stuff. And then on the day they posted a video…. And it was a Rick roll vid only with Bidoof, which must’ve took a lot of effort to make but it’s still… very strange.

I watched some of the Who special features last night for Time And The Rani. I wish the making of was more about… the making of. It felt like half of it was to do with the troubles of getting season 24 started rather than the ep itself. It didn’t help that the narrator sounded annoying. I wish there’d been more with Kate O’Mara. The behind the sofa was more entertaining though

There’s also a new Who animation been done, for Evil Of The Daleks which sounds like it’ll be great.

I need to do a run of the animated Resident Evil films before the new series starts next week. Leon!

Being woozy has meant I’m definitely not going to the meet tomorrow, not that I was thinking of going anyway but it’s like a final sign not to.

I play Hades and my two favorite weapons are the sword and the fists, because I like to get up close and just button mash at my enemies. I have escaped 7 times with the sword and zero times with the bow and arrow, because I can't manage to figure out how to reliably kill things with the bow. (I stand too close or too far away.)

Defeating hades himself is really hard at first, then I think by the second or third time I did it, I'd figured out the knack of it and it wasn't nearly as hard. But the game ramps you up slowly enough that you don't really beat him until you're ready to beat him, if that makes sense.

I have learned (the hard way) that I really need to get at least a couple defensive boons because I never think to dodge away from incoming hits and so I die a lot when I maybe didn't have to. Athena is good for defense and Hermes is good for dodging automatically, and I love any of the "vengeance" boons where anytime I get hit my enemies automatically take a bit of damage.

Oh nice! Usually I’m the same, getting close and stabby, though with Hades I’ve been best with the spear and gun (the latter the only one I got to the end with) though yeah the bow is tricky.

I thought I’d got him last time and then it went to a second stage and he got me. Yeah it definitely takes some figuring out (and luck too)

Oh I’m the same at being bad at dodging! Sometimes I even forget it’s an option. I’ll keep that in mind, I usually got for Dionysus boons when I can

Hermes has a boon that is an automatically dodge when you get hit, and also a 'briefly sturdy when you dash', both of which come in very handy for me.

Ares and Zeus have some of the best offensive boons, their lightning and razor blade boons add extra fun to regular attacks. And I always have to get a boon on my dash.

Demeter has the best Call for Aid boon, but I don't know if you would have got her unlocked yet.

The spear was my favorite in the beginning, but then I was able to start ramping up my weapons with titan's blood and the sword and fists became my favs. Or at least the ones I'm best at. I like the spear for hitting things at a distance, because it doesn't matter if you are "too close" you still hit like with the sword but with the bow and arrow if you are too close you do nothing.

I haven't played any of these games, but I have watched a lot of Hades content on Let's Play channels. I love the storylines and characters, and I wish I had the patience to play it myself (but even with the knowledge that each run is unique as you keep gaining boons each run ... i know I'd get so mad having to die and repeat xD).

If I remember, you played FF15? Death plays quite the part in that story as well (spoilers, but even King Regis' death plays a HUGE role in the story and that's right out of the gate).

Oh yeah I usually get mad at games like that, but the characters are enough to make me wanna keep doing it.

Yeah I have, though not for ages. It’s one of those things I keep meaning to go on (and watch the companion film they did) but I’ve not.

Hades is better than most of the games of its genre specifically because it's got a very gradual ramp up of difficulty, so that the first few times you flail around and learn what's going on and die, you still feel like you made real progress. And then you start getting good at it and make progress and then die. Hades is an aggravating final boss if your boons aren't helpful for you. I like Athena's dash boon when I can get it. Depending on the aspect in play, I find I like the fists the most and the rail the least, because the rail is the one weapon that doesn't knock back or hit stun.

This is true! It’s definitely a game where boobs are make or break at the end. Have bad or not useful boons and it’s so easy to die.

I just love Hades so much!!! Everything about it is so fantastic. I usually don't play roguelikes either, because I hate having to start over when I die, but Hades rewards you so much for dying with the storyline and building relationships with everyone back at the house. It's just so wonderful. I'm coming up on 300 runs and even though I exhausted the plot a while ago, I just can't stop coming back.

My favourite weapon is the Shield, and I use it with the Aspect of Chaos; maxed out, it throws 5 shields for your special after attacking, which is just ridiculously fantastic. I love to put Athena's Divine Flourish on it and just play ping-pong with every projectile in the field. I also really like playing with the Bow's Aspect of Rama, though I see why that isn't for everyone; I just enjoy the tactical thinking that you have to employ with it.

I'm so tempted by the Build-a-Bear Jawa!

I kind of missed most of the Bidoof stuff? I tend to play Pokemon Go fairly early in the day before they get going with event stuff and since I didn't have internet I just...didn't know something was going on.
