shadowhiveSo on Monday I started season 18 of Doctor Who, so like with 10 before it I’m gonna post my thoughts.
First episode was The Leisure Hive. The Doctor and Romana decide to take a break at the titular hive, but of course nothing is as it seems.
So I’ll be honest, I couldn’t remember anything about this one. With season 10 I could remember something about each one going in but this one? Nothing. The story is also a four parter, which as I’ve mentioned before, is a better length for them.
As there is a jump from 10 to 18, there’s a lot of changes between the two. The doctor has regenerated and he has different companions in the form of Romana and K9, although K9 isn’t in it beyond the opening scene. (That’s due to the new producer not liking him and wanting to get rid of him, because he was considered too op.)
As for the story itself, it’s good in some ways. I liked the design of the aliens, both the foamasi and argolins looked good (and I thought the good foamasi was cute) and it was nice to see alien races that were more varied. Usually there’s a tendency for races to all be ‘evil’ but this time both races had good and bad members. It was also sad in a way, because of the war between the species that had destroyed the argolin homeworld and led to them making the hive as a last bastion of their race and culture.
Overall though it’s not terribly memorable of an episode and I’m not sure exactly why that is.
I watched the special features yesterday morning, since most were fairly short. Some of them were rather... dry in the ones from season 10. The costume one was nice, due to the costume lady being sweet. The behind the sofa for it was the best though, since the people doing it were (unlike the season 10 one) mostly members of the cast, along with the aforementioned costume lady.
I’m hoping to finish off the season 10 special features disc tonight, since one of the features for it was long. The main thing on it to watch is the Sarah Jane Adventures story with Jo, which I remember fondly. I’ve not watched Sarah Jane in awhile, not since her last episodes before her untimely death, so it’ll be nice to see them again. I did find out something though and that’s Luke was supposed to come out as being gay in one of the episodes that didn’t get filmed. That’s a shame, because I loved Luke and it woulda been awesome for the show to have a gay character (and for a kids show too!). I knew I got vibes from him.

Other things now.
Yesterday a payment option came up to do the damn bag pay after delivery so... it’s been done now. It’s gonna fuck up the next lot of money and the stuff I have ordered, which... is so irritating. I think it’s also made me stress out over money again (since, between Shudder and the Birmingham trip there’s not much there as it is). It sucks, but... eh.
I’m hoping even more for a back pay of my money but... it seems unlikely. I’ve heard nothing from them and I don’t want to chase it up. I keep checking the mail with a mix of hope and apprehension about it. Hope that there’d be a chunk of money, apprehension that they decide to go the other way and fuck my money up. I hate it.
Between that and the weather, which has gone hot again and is irritating as fuck, I’ve ended up having an early few nights which is annoying. I’ve got stuff to watch and things to go on damnit. I didn’t have a restful sleep last night either which is annoying.
I’m hoping to write soon but the heat is making it hard again. I want to work more on this Frank/Ray idea but my documents has loads of ideas and wips noted which is annoying. And I want more Bert stuff which I guess I’ll have to do at some point.
Bake off started last night and it’s good to have it back. Of course being the first ep and everyone being knew it’s hard to form attachments or remember names or anything. It’s a shame the tattooed guy left though I’m not surprised since he had a bit of a disastrous few bakes.
I’m gonna listen to a Magnus archives now before going to walk Naryu. I’m almost at the end of season 1 of it now so... we’lol see what happens.

Date: 2019-08-28 05:27 pm (UTC)I agree about it being hard to remember names in Bake Off, especially as they had an extra baker this year. I was surprised about who went, I was sure it was going to be the young identical twin. Though I liked him so would have been sad if he had gone.
