Mar. 13th, 2025 12:37 pmTime for another post.
Tuesday ended up being mostly low energy cause of all the stress. I did try and watch the National Theater production of Frankenstein that was on Sky Arts but it ended up losing me 40 minutes in. I mean it start oddly with about ten minutes of the creature emerging from an egg/womb thing, crawling around the stage virtually naked and trying to stand. I guess it would’ve got better after I stopped watching, with the creature confronting Frankenstein (who hadn’t even shown up) but I think my mindset didn’t help.
In the night I had trouble sleeping then my stomach felt woozy in the morning due to the stress and we went and it was… fine. It felt pointless, cause she only looked at my paperwork/documentation for five seconds, but at least it answered when the money would come in.
We only spent an hour in town so didn’t do much. I did get the world book day books (cause mum gave me tokens from the library) and got some bits from Poundland and frozen party food stuff from Asda. And I got the latest Lego Minecraft magazine which came with a cool Ghast which is easily the biggest thing they included with a magazine.
After I got back I finished the next of the ReadChristie books, The Thirteen Problems which is a Miss Marple book.
Like the title says, instead of being one story this is a collection of 13 problems, however it’s not simply a collection of short stories. The premise is that it’s two groups of people telling each other ‘problems’ they have encountered and seeing if the rest of the group can work out what happened before revealing the solution.
As such most of the stories are told by different people and so tell them different ways. (I say most as two people are in both groups, Miss Marple and Sir Henry a former police commissioner so they each pose two problems) The problems are mostly murders (with one is a theft and one potential theft) and they’re all well told. Of course Miss Marple worked them all out (and sometimes I did too!) and I did enjoy how the first group kind of forgot she was there at times, despite the telling of the stories happening in her house. She was just kinda there, taking it all in and knitting.
Before making this post I did try and work out my favourite of the stories, but honestly I’m not sure. Like I said they’re all so well told that there’s something I like in most of them. But yeah I really enjoyed reading it.
Next to read is The Three Act Tragedy, though I’ve still got Flight Of Icarus and I Want That Twink Obliterated to get back to. (And mum got a book from the library for me, a Poirot book by someone called Sophie Hannah who seems to have done a few now).
Last night I felt like watching something but wasn’t sure what. I did think I had the focus for Stranger Things so instead I watched something else. I decided to finally watch Werewolf By Night which I’d wanted to watch for awhile but especially after getting a Funko of Ted/Man Thing from Forbidden Planet and wanting to see as a result.
I decided to watch the original version of it, which was in black and white and I loved the vibe from the start. Like to ally it’s so different and feels like an old monster film only this time the actual monsters are the ‘monster hunters’. And, while it was in black and white they had flashes of red for the bloodstone which was such a good choice cause it just made it stand out more.
But I’m not gonna spoil it, but Ted is awesome and Harriet Sansom Harris is perfect as the main villain for it. And I just love the whole aesthetic and vibes of the thing (while also hating the hunters on principle).
Marvel should do more specials like this cause it was so well done! (I dunno why they’ve only done two one offs, this and the Guardians Holiday Special)
Today the books were supposed to come, but it seems that’s not the case now (as the tracking changed this morning from coming today to on their way) but staying in did mean I got to hear the new Sleep Token song when it released at midday! Not only was there a new song, a US tour and a preorder for the album, but also there’s a new look for Vessel! I’ll miss the red on the mask but the gold does look cool.
Also Rock Sound are teasing something for Monday, most likely a cover with him but I’m so curious to see what it is.
Annoyingly the Sleep Token site doesn’t seem to say when money is taken out (is it taken now or when the album is released cause if the latter I’d get something preordered but I dunno what). Also it doesn’t help that the site has vinyls but you can’t really tell what the colours are cause they’re dark and the background is too.
But anyway I’m gonna walk the pup, then come back and flop and maybe do something else but who knows what.
