I fully intended to do a post yesterday after returning from getting mum’s meds, but I was just too wiped to manage it. So I’m doing it now instead, while I wait for my youtooz (which is coming in the next two hours and is the foolish shark ahhh!)

First off thoughts on Smile.

On the way home I usually go down a path that’s in darkness, which is where we usually walk the pup in daylight, but something made me not go that way and keep to the (slightly longer) road route instead. Maybe I was spooked from the film.

I intended to watch Nine Perfect Strangers when I got back but I wasn’t in the mindset so I watched some treehouse of horror eps and then just flopped in bed.

Yesterday we went to pick up mum’s meds (as well as sawdust, since it seems to be nowhere right now) and we got a few things. I got a Halloween mug and oven mitt from TK maxx (which has Halloween stuff on clearence already which seems wrong) and I also got some books too. From Sainsburys I picked up a crotchet pumpkin kit and a Lego Minecraft set which was reduced a fair bit (especially surprising cause it was one of the new ones). It’s got some pretty cool features to it, though the spinning wall is a little fiddly to set someone up in it (much like the dark trooper attack set).

When I came back there was two packages waiting on the doorstep (just left there!). One was something mum ordered, while the other was Tommy’s new book which I might take tomorrow to read on the train.

The trip did wipe me out a bit so I was pretty tired the rest of the day.

Last night there was Taskmaster which was pretty fun and that was followed by Name Your Price. It’s a completely ridiculous show, where streamers play games (mostly focussed, as the name implies, on the price of things). Because of covid streams of it used to have contestants stream in from their homes/set ups but the new season of it has had people come into the studio (other than Corpse who’s still faceless). The show has a 70’s aesthetic so contestants have outfits for them which are pretty ridiculous at times.

I was looking forward to this weeks one especially. I only usually watch when there’s someone I know on it and usually there’s only one or two people that I do. Last night’s one included four contestants that I all knew, which was a first and I was especially looking forward to it because Foolish and Ranboo we’re two of them.

The announcement pic of all of them used the Foolish pic of him shirtless, leading Foolish to ask ‘is that what I’m gonna be wearing’ and the proceeding slew of speculation he’d be shirtless. He wasn’t alas, but his shirt was open enough to show skin, as was Ranboo’s. (Before the show I did mention to a friend that Foolish would unbutton his shirt in an attempt to get points)

The show was absolutely insane, Foolish was so hot and during the intro he lowered his glasses to wink at the camera (he was also described as being in a will they won’t they with Punz who was also a contestant). Over the course of the show he proceeded to flirt with Austin (on of the presenters), then dance with him (twice!), then unbutton his shirt in an attempt to get more points. Then he asked Austin to come over and KISSED HIM! It was so wild and so insane I felt I was hallucinating the whole thing until I saw clips and pics that confirmed that yes, that indeed happened. And on top of that Foolish was just so charming and pretty and dumb (for one multiple choice round he wrote down the whole answer instead of just the letter, for another asking about expiry dates he wrote times instead of years). And I just… he came close to winning too! If Punz had got the last question wrong he would have won (because Foolish at that point was, somehow, in the lead).

It honestly feels like a fever dream and I might just do a pic post from it later or something.

Lastly [community profile] thefridayfive

1. How many languages do you speak?

(I so read this in EV-9D9’s voice, from Return of the Jedi) I only speak one language alas, English. I was taught French at high school but it hasn’t really stuck. I’ve tried to learn a few other things, but not done too well

2. What is your mother tongue?

English

3. What is a language that you would like to learn and why?

Spanish or Japanese. I did get a 3ds thing to learn Japanese which I did enjoy but then I misplaced it. I also tried to learn Spanish on Duolingo but I stopped after awhile, I’m hoping to start soon.

4. Does it bother you when people speak a language you don't know in front of you? Why or why not?

Not really, unless they’re like… clearly pointing at me, that would bother me. But otherwise no.

5. Speak to me.

Omelette du fromage

Now I’m going to rest, wait for the foolish shark, then walk the pup. And then get things sorted for tomorrow.

Edit to add: birthday is now just under a week away, ugh. Also He’s here!

Two posts in two days, I know what is this madness?

So yesterday was the Summer Game Fest presentation and…honestly? I can’t recall much of it. Maybe it was because I’d been super tired in the day, maybe because nothing grabbed me (the indie games in day of the devs following it seemed better) but yeah. A common thread seemed to be sci fi horror in games (seriously there was at least four) and I’m wondering what triggered the theme.

After it I ended up doing more Lego Star Wars, which was some of the Tatooine things. I really do need to free play the levels though still.

Today we went to the opticians. Mum had managed to get us an appointment after calling a few days back and it went… well. It seems my right eye has gotten much worse and it might be what has caused some of my recent headaches and achy eyes. I’ve got a heat thing to put on my eyes and a further test thing Monday (and she wants me to take a blood test to cover my bases) so… Oof.

After that I went in the co-op and finally used the card I have (for some reason it works at the one by the station/opticians but not the local one because they’re somehow different? I don’t get it) so I got £1.50 off the little shop we did (plus my student discount) and I got my Lego Star Wars magazine.

When we got back we watched Taskmaster from last night which was fun and then I watched Xbox uk play the quarry (mostly cause I was hoping to win a code). It looks pretty cool, just like a teen horror thing, and I’m still not sure what’s going on.

I finally tried the pink what the fanta bottle we got from when we took Naryu to the vet… but the flavour is, disappointingly, eh. I think it’s watermelon? But it doesn’t taste nice. I’ve only had two sips and I don’t think I’ll finish it, which is a shame cause I don’t like wasting such things.

Anyway, here’s tonight Friday Five, which I’m gonna try and get back into doing. And then I’m gonna watch stuff and maybe watch that Fortnite concert thing.

1. What is the last book you read and what book(s), if any, are you currently reading?

I can’t remember the last book I read, but I’m currently reading A Test Of Courage, which is a Star Wars High Republic book set during/after a ship being sabotaged.

Once I’ve finished that I’m gonna read the last Lesser Known Monsters and hopefully read more over summer.

2. How about moving pictures? Are you a fan of any TV show or movie right now?

I’ve currently been watching Grimm cause it’s one every week night, though I wouldn’t say my interest is there anymore with it. Season 5 of it just started last night.

I’ve got a few things I’ve started and need to finish, Disenchantment, Moon Knight, Inside No 9, but I’ve not done a good job watching them. Or the many things in my to watch list of doom.

3. What's your favorite genre, and why?

Probably sci-fi stuff. I’ve always liked space stuff. The world has been so terrible lately that I’ve preferred watching comedy stuff. I don’t think I could stand dystopias at the minute

4. If we were all evacuating the planet, and you could only bring 3 unique works of entertainment for posterity, which would you pick? Let's just assume that we've coordinated it so there are no repeats.

Hmmm that’s tricky. Mostly because the main things I’d suggest (Star Wars, Pokemon, Zelda) would already be taken by someone (at least I hope so!) so it’s a case of going for things that wouldn’t be as obvious.

So I mentioned above Lesser Known Monsters, so I think the series as a whole definitely needs to be included because we need more Queer books plus monsters.

Also mentioned above is Taskmaster, which is honestly one of the funniest shows on tv. I’ve seen the early seasons so many times and they always make me laugh with how ridiculous they are.

And then… hmmm. I’m trying to think of a film or game that I’ve watched or played, but is also fairly obscure or niche but I’m not sure…. Hmm, you know what, screw it. Mamma Mia. It’s fun and I’ve watched it so many times, it’s just so joy filled and I think it’s something we need.

5. Do you make new works as well (fannish or original both count)? Or is that not your skillset/interest?

Sometimes, though not for awhile because of stresses. Usually it’s just fic and the occasional basic icon.

No song Saturday today as I’m feeling a bit bleh still.

Yesterday ended up being ok, though I was still a bit unfocused. I did watch the new Bad Batch which was pretty good, ugh ugh the Empire. At least they didn’t start firing on civilians. And Alexander Siddig from DS9 did a voice which was pretty cool.

I’m still useless at Dead By Daylight. I tried being a killer for one of the daily things, but was so bad I had a message from someone saying I was. (Which was rude.) I did try the space jam game which was kinda fun but tricky. And I forgot how retro the Lego Star Wars game was.

I did manage to finish of the time and the rani special features last night, which had some interesting things. There’s also some which were annoying though.

I found out last night that Bob Bryar made a tweet…. and then was bombarded with harassment and deleted it. I really hate that the MCR fandom has decided that this is an acceptable way to behave. As much as I miss the good parts of the fandom it’s hearing things like that which remind me why I’ve essentially left it.

I put on the next Penumbra Podcast this morning, Dragon’s Den and damn, Juno is so grumpy even at a theme park. I’ll likely put part 2 on tomorrow.

I found out there’s a new Magic The Gathering set coming based on Dungeons and Dragons and it looks pretty cool. I’m tempted to get some but I’ve got no one to play it with. Boo.

Gonna snug, watch Murder On The Blackpool express and maybe watch a film tonight. Either the first of the Resident Evil or fear street.

There’s a fire in the ocean in the gulf if Mexico because a pipeline has broken and it looks… as insane as it sounds. When I saw it I was sure it was from a film something but no, it’s real.

Ending with the new Friday Five

1) What one event from your lifetime would you change if you could, and why?

Hmm there’s two main ways of answering this. If I can change anything it would be so nan didn’t have Alzheimer’s.

If it’s change in just things that I can control I would tell myself to completely avoid two people, who have both left lasting damage on me due to their presence.

2) If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be and how old would your younger self be when they got it? Do you think your younger self would listen?

General advice, be careful who to trust. Specific advice, avoid the people mentioned above.

I’m not sure if my younger self would listen, I hope they would.

3) If you could have a conversation with the historical figure of your choosing, whom would you pick and why? What would you talk about? (You can't give them advice, though - they'll think it was all a very strange dream!)

Hmm an interesting question. I don’t think there’s a proper historical figure that comes to mind. Would Carrie Fisher count? Id wanna meet her she seemed like she was so fun.

4) There are many things that we've lost from the past -- how to make Roman concrete, countless episodes of Dr. Who, most of the plays about Oedipus, my favorite stuffed animal . . . . What one item or secret would you retrieve if you had the power to do so?

Ohh retrieving the last Doctor Who episodes would definitely be tempting. And now that’s all I can think of.

5) What would you like to say to people in the future?

I hope things are better then they are now. Don’t repeat out mistakes,

No song Saturday this week, mainly because my eyes have been achy today. I’m not sure if it’s a side effect from the jab or if it’s exhaustion from everything but… yeah.

I was gonna watch Bad Batch today, maybe go on Story Of Seasons, but I did neither. Boo. I did watch Missing Link this afternoon though, which was entertaining enough. It felt like parts of the trip could have been explored more (and wouldn’t it have been quicker to go the other way round the world?) but ah well. I liked the appearance of Nessie. There should be more stuff with them. (And sea/lake creatures in general)

We watched the masked dancer tonight, which is liked the masked singer only with dancing. It’s so irritipsting that the best one of the bright, Viper, was the first to go. Ugh. Plus his whole get up was hot.

I’m not gonna watch anything spooky tonight like usual for two reasons. 1: the aforementioned tiredness, even though it’s lessened greatly, and b: because I hadn’t actually decided on anything to watch. I’ll have to think on what to watch for next week.

I did manage some gaming though, doing some of a quest on ESO (yay Fennorian🖤) and tried Maneater which is kinda… I dunno. Scaly Pete is an ass and I want the shark to kill him already.

Last night I watched the Friends Reunion (though I missed the start) and it was pretty fun, it made me wanna watch the show again (and it could so easily have been longer). Maybe I’ll watch a few random eps.

I also watched Intergalactic last night and I have… mixed feelings on it. It’s pretty depressing and the vast majority of the characters are unlikable, plus pretty much everyone outside the main cast ends up dead. However it’s got to a point where… I do wanna know what happens. But it’s definitely not something I’d wanna watch again. The theme gets stuck in my head though.

Friday five under the cut.

1) Have you read more books, or fewer books, this past year than usual?
About the same probably? Though I felt like I was a slow reader.

2) What book are you reading now (or what book did you read most recently)?
I’m currently reading through Light Of The Jedi, the first High Republic book. I wanna finish it before reading any other High Republic stuff, even the comics. It’s pretty good so far, though kinda sad in the first part. I’m part way through the second section and meant to read more this week but only did a bit today.

I also was working through From a Certain Point Of View book for Empire Strikes Back before that, but have took a pause on that since it was kinda grim in places.

3) What is the best book you read in the past few years?
I’m gonna have to see the last Night Vale book, The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home. It came out last year and it’s a book that surprised me because I couldn’t put it down. It’s about the titlular Faceless old Woman and her life before Night Vale which is incredibly surprising. It’s an adventure for the most part and it’s really cool and good, though at times heartbreaking. I think it’s something you can enjoy without listening to the podcast (Night Vale itself only shows up towards the end) so if you’re looking for a female centred book...

4) Do you read more than one book at a time, or just one?
I usually try and just read one, because I lose focus. I will read other non-novel books sometimes though (like reference books or such)

5) How big is your to-be-read pile (or list)?
Oh boy, I have a lot of books in my to read pile of doom. (Though I recently moved most of them tomy book shelf.) My next few books I want to read are Thirteen Stories (by the guy that does The Magnus Archives) and into The Dark (the next High Republic novel)

***

Mum had done a thing through the bbc site for some sort of arts thing and that was on Wednesday. It was a rather strange thing, it was done by Zoom and was for the bbc worlds service, with people from Stockholm. It was a bit of a mixed bag. The comic was funny and I found out Stockholm has a beautiful metro system that’s full of art.

Wednesday was also Mario day so I went back on Sunshine a bit. I’m still useless at the secret levels, which is so annoying, but I unlocked the village which is good.

Today’s been oki, I did some messing around sorting the stuff out near me. I watched the circle from Wednesday and boo, Duncan left. Then tonight I did some Fenyx Rising, finishing the Aphrodite’s quest line. The vault is a real proper dungeon, complete with a boss which was a surprise.

Why does iPad have an other space in storage that you can’t do anything about and is always huge? Ugh.

I’m probably gonna doze soon though I’ve got Maxx’s stream on. I think tomorrow is uneventful.

So I followed [community profile] thefridayfive cause someone posted them but I’ve not Done them before so...

1) How is your year going so far?

It’s... going. Recent weeks have been rough cause depression has resulted in a lack of motivation.

2) Have you gotten vaccinated yet? If not, when do you think it's likely to happen?

Not yet and I’ve no idea. I will as soon as I can, provided my allergy doesn’t make it risky.

3) Are you bored or are you busy these days?

Depends on the day. Often a mix of both. Mostly the bored comes from depression or tiredness induced blah ness. Busyness is usually in the form of uni stuff but aforementioned motivation issues have messed that up.

4) Is this pandemic good or bad for your finances?

It depends. It’s better now I’ve got a regular food shop delivery (going in store was frequently overspending). I’ve not had any gigs or streetpass meets and I’ve rarely been anywhere but I've spent stuff online to varying degrees.

5) What are you missing most these days?

Live gigs, I do miss them despite the people. I miss the streetpass meets too. I miss certain people, some that I should some that I shouldn’t.
