The planet of gold
May. 7th, 2020 10:42 pmYesterday was pretty uneventful as days go, although I did see the baby geese! I took some pics which will be under the cut later.
Other than that yesterday was, as I said, uneventful. I did get an idea for a fic, but alas, turning the imagery into words wasn’t happening. I’m also annoyed that my zora sapphire pendant has gone. The cord came under and slipped off... and I dunno where it actually is. It sucks cause it’s so pretty. I hope it’s in the house but, like the triforce one, I think it’s gone.
I did end up watching Revenge Of The Cybermen last night and meant to post my thoughts earlier. (But it slipped my mind). Like many eps I’d only watched it once before, but I remember the dvd came in a boxset with silver nemesis in a cyberman boxset. I always thought that was odd because, unlike the Silurian and sontaran box sets, it’s not the full set of episodes with them. (Although that is, admittedly, more understandable since there’s far more cybermen eps then they are of them.) but I digress.
One good thing about these season boxsets is watching the episodes in context. This is especially good for season 12, where all the episodes follow one after the other. Revenge has some updated special effects, which look great (they’re mostly for the exterior shots of the Nerva beacon as well as the cybermen’s spaceship and some of the screens, I think anyway). However the episode itself, well it isn’t the best. First off the name. Cybermen are meant to be emotionless as the use of revenge seems odd. The cybermen also have these odd guns... in their heads. Which seems strange. Kellman’s plan seemed convoluted (being a double agent? Willingly killing his people?) and the Voga just... well they don’t look the best.
The ep does have some nice location stuff and Sarah Jane is great as always, as is the fourth Doctor and Harry. It’s just a shame really. The cybermen at this point hadn’t been seen for years (not since the second doctor, indeed the who wiki even mentions this was the first cybermen ep without him) and they’d not be seen again until Earthshock which is much better. I think one thing that lets it down is that the gold weakness isn’t mentioned until now (I don’t think anyway) so it’s significance seems sudden. And there’s another mention of cyber wars which aren’t seen. (It would be nice if the series actually showed one for once. Or better yet the Rutan-sontaran one)
I watched the making of last night which was interesting, apparently one of the guys saw a ghost and there seems to be a general feeling it was cursed. Maybe it was. It’s a shame it ends on a call from the Brigadier leading into Terror Of The Zygons (which was pushed back to season 13). I’m gonna finish the special features tonight hopefully so I can start season 14 Monday night.
Today has been oki too. I did an order on Qwertee and finally ordered the Klaus and Ben funkos. AC has been annoying cause I was hoping for Flick but nope. Hopefully tomorrow.
The new Lego Star Wars game has a Release date, my birthday, so I’m gonna ask for it. Yay!
Lastly here are the promised pics of baby geese.
