I’d Trade All My Tomorrows For Just One Yesterday
Pairing: Five
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: angst, apocalypse, cannibalism
Notes: For the umbrellakink prompt reluctant cannibalism. It’s not super graphic, but yeah. Side note, I feel like a monster for writing this, I need to watch something happy now
Five was shaking. He knew what he had to do, what he needed to do, but he had put it off as long as he could. His stomach ached, worse than it had ever had before. He had searched for food, but everywhere near to the mansion had been a bust. In everywhere he had checked kitchens were on fire, or the food was unusable. He’d found a few odd thing, but it wasn’t enough. He knew if he was going to survive, to get back and prevent this from happening then he’d need to do this.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” He reached for one of the blades from the harness he’d taken from Diego’s body and took a deep breath. He bought the blade down and cut through his brother’s skin, tears welling in his eyes as he tore him apart. “Please forgive me.”

He held Klaus’ body tightly, trying to settle. His stomach wasn’t in pain anymore, but that didn’t change what he’d done. He’d eaten part of his brother. He’d eaten Diego. He’d carved him up with his own knives.
He tried to suppress his revulsion, knowing it would only bring sickness and then it would have all been for nothing. He had heard of people doing this before, survives of plane crashes or lost expeditions. He’d even read about tribes that had done it ritualistically. But there’s a difference between reading it and don’t it for himself.
He sobbed into Klaus’ shoulder, his body trembling as he forced himself to sleep.

When he found the remains of the mansion he had managed to find the remains of four of his siblings. Vanya and Ben weren’t among them, though they could have just been further into the rubble, buried so deep that they would never be found.
Luther and Allison had been trapped under too much rubble. He couldn’t get their bodies out, no matter how much he tried. He’d noticed that something had happened to Luther, that his body was wrong, much too big. It made him impossible to move. Five doubted even an adult could move him.
He’d been able to move Diego and Klaus though. That had been a blessing as they unwittingly helped him. Klaus had a jacket that was soft and warm, keeping him warm at night. Diego had a harness carrying an array of knives, although some were missing. He guessed they were in whoever had done this. He was certain a person had done this, though the glass eye in his pocket was his only clue to go on. If only he could go back and find them...
He had meant to give his brother’s a proper burial, but couldn’t bring himself to do so. Those first nights he had cried against them, holding them tightly. Now there was nothing left of Diego to mourn, his flesh had sustained him and he hated himself for it.
Klaus was in a similar state now and Five shuddered. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” He whispered, kissing Klaus’ forehead as he packed what he could of his brother into a bag. He had to to leave this place, to find other supplies at least. There had to be something, somewhere.
“I’ll make this right. I’ll find a way.” Five kissed Diego’s forehead and then he left the remains of the only home he’d ever known.

He sighed in relief when he found a mall. The outside was tattered but it seemed intact. He was close to running out of supplies, since there wasn’t much meat left to eat. He hated that his powers had failed him, even to jump across short distances. There had to be a reason for that. Perhaps it was the same reason that he was blocked from travelling back.
There had to be a solution, he just needed time. Time to run the numbers, to consider ever possibility. He shook his head, forcing his way into the building.
Disappointingly the first store he found was a clothing one. “Useless.” He cursed, pulling Klaus’ jacket tight to him as he walked through it. Maybe he’d come later, when he had something to use to transport them.
‘Five’
“Who’s there?” He called out, spinning around in his spot. He’d seen no signs of other survivors, but that didn’t mean they weren’t there. He waved his flashlight around, catching sight of something. With his free hand he clutched one of the knives, approaching the figure slowly. “Who are you?”
‘I’m Delores.’ The voice replied, sounding similar to his mother, the mother that was probably smashed to pieces. ‘I know what you did. It’s ok.’
“How could you know what I di...” Stepping closer he could see now that the figure was a mannequin, it’s clothing torn and tattered. “You’re a mannequin.”
‘And you’re a thirteen year old boy out of time.’ The voice, which had to be in his head replied. ‘You can’t spend your time here alone. You need company, companionship. Even if it’s just me.’
Five considered it for a few minutes, then resheathed his knife and approached the mannequin.

That night he had the first restful sleep he had in a longtime, his belly full of something other then human flesh and his arms wrapped tight around Delores.

It had taken the better part of his adult life, but now here he was, with his siblings. The last few days had been a mess, nothing like he had hoped. They’d saved the world with minutes to spare, saved it from Vanya of all people and now there was a moment of quiet, of peace.
He turned to his brother’s, to Diego and Klaus who had been through so much. They were stood together, their fingers close to touching.
Five thought of them. Of what he had done.
He ran to them, tears flooding his eyes and he wrapped his arms around Diego, sobbing into his chest. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry....”
“Five what is it, what’s wrong?” Diego held him close, running his fingers through his hair.
“I’m sorry...” Five dissolved into sobs and felt fingers on his back, another arm wrapped around hi.
“It’s ok Five.” Klaus’ voice whispered, soothing and soft. “We did. Everything’s going to be ok.”
Five nodded but that didn’t make him feel any better. Maybe in time he would, but for now. Now he was able to cry.
