Careful what you wish for

Yesterday ended up being a flop day which is always expected after a trip to town. Annoyingly though one of my bad headaches came on and was persistent throughout the day. Thankfully it did fade some at the night, though as soon as I went to bed it returned bad enough it took me hours to sleep. Which ugh.
It’s a little better today but it’s still been nagging.
However yesterday I did manage to watch some things. First was the new Beregerac series which seems pretty promising from the first ep. I’d seen ads and figured it’d be pretty good and it definitely feels it has potential. (Though of course the cops are jerks)
Then there’s the start of the Tubbathon and there’s been a cool trailer for No Dice in Lego! The new series of it starts tonight, but alas is the last which is sad. There’s not been a full schedule but there is gonna be an announcement today of who is gonna be in this week’s events.
Thankfully my head had eased enough to watch Stranger Things and hoo boy, thoughts under a cut cause it was The Massacre At Hawkins Lab which is obviously gonna be spoilers.
The ep picks up right where the last ended, with Robin, Nancy and Eddie saving Steve which was awesome. I’m glad that this ep actually had Eddie and Steve having a proper conversation (and Eddie giving Steve his jacket 👀). Also love how their explorations turned out that the Upside Down Hawkins was stuck in the past (which was funny cause I was wondering if it would have new things added/removed to it not long after they entered). I also loved the transition of the party on bikes to the upside down gang on their bikes. (And yay Dustin figuring stuff out!)
But damn the mood whiplash between the talk on the stains on Eddie’s bed and the final scenes that followed as Vecna was in Nancy’s head.
Then there was the Russian arc and I’m glad Murray’s plan worked (and damn he acted as Yuri so well!) although of course Hopper’s plan didn’t work right. That demogorgon was such a beast none of them stood a chance. Hopefully Hopper’s reunion with Joyce means Hopper’s angsty suffering arc is over though I won’t believe it until they’re out of the prison and far away.
Of course the main part of the ep was dedicated to Eleven relieving the memories leading up to the titular massacre. Of course I had thoughts and theories beforehand, mostly that I was sure that Eleven was innocent and that Vecna was somehow involved. Which I was sorta right on both counts.
Eleven was innocent cause she didn’t kill anyone but her actions did result in it happening (though unintentionally). Vecna was involved, just not in the way I expected.
(And let’s address that elephant in the room, I knew Jamie Campbell Bower was gonna be Vecna. Thanks instagram account that mentioned that when reporting on his rock sound issue. Though even if I hadn’t seen that his announcement he was in Rings Of Power this week was followed by ‘know as Vecna from Stranger Things’. Even without that I also knew he was Henry/001 thanks to having the funko with both those names, though it’s still awol.)
So yeah I knew Henry and Vecna were related but my thought was this: during the Creel House incidents Vecna took control of Henry, possessing him to do those things. My thought too was that Henry survived his coma and Vecna still had some control over him, before taking him over at the massacre and killing everyone.
Again from a certain point of view I was right but from another I was wrong. Because Henry was Vecna, but not because Vecna was in the upside down controlling him but because he literally was Vecna, becoming him when Eleven banished him into the Upside Down.
So this episode answered so many questions I had about Vecna and his connection to Henry but also raised more too, mostly about the Upside Down. Was it always an alternate version of Hawkins or did it become that because of Henry? Were the demogorgon, mind flayer and other things always there or were they creations of Henry? Is the whole thing similar to how Ganon being banished into the sacred realm lead to it becoming twisted due to his presence? I feel some of that may be answered in the next eps or the new season.
But damn can we talk about Jamie’s acting? Like I his orderly persona he’s friendly and softly spoken but you also get the vibe he’s manipulating Eleven (but at the same time he doesn’t ask Eleven to remove the implant, Eleven offers that herself). But then the moment the implant is gone? Bam! He’s completely different. Gone is the friendliness and in its place is this malevolence and just… damn. It’s so well done (and yeah it’s kinda hot too).
I dunno when I’ll watch the next eps, cause Tubbathon events, but I hope so soon. Cause damn I wanna know how this all plays out. (Though I’m also ready for feels cause I know Eddie doesn’t make it😭)
A bit after watching Stranger Things I went to bed though and, as mentioned, my head hurt. Which sucks cause I wanted to read or put on the new Magnus Protocol but felt I couldn’t do either. I did outline a fic idea instead, but even that was a bit hazy.
This morning head seems to have eased some which is good. After walking the pup and sorting food I put on tonight’s ep of Towards Zero and the latest High Potential. Obviously both are very different in tone, but I really love Morgan in High Potential she’s so awesome.
As for Towards Zero the ep is really good, though it’s mostly set up in that it’s introducing everyone and getting them to the same place. (In fact no one even dies in the first ep, despite a nice opening monologue from the lawyer who really has a nice voice for such things.) There’s four people who I could see as a potential victim though I could see it being none of them or even more than one. And Neville is a jerk, who thinks ‘I know I’m gonna take my new wife on a honeymoon at the place my ex is staying’ like what??
Anyway! I’m gonna flop now, mostly to rest until No Dice and hopefully read or fic, though I’m at the mercy of my head.

Date: 2025-03-02 10:32 pm (UTC)Vecna though! See, I was kind of wondering about your theory as well. However, I guessed who he was in pretty much the first episode. Not by being clever, but because I saw Jamie Campbell Bower in the credits, and because I didn't "see" him in the episode, I assumed he must be the one under the monster makeup. Sometimes I wish my brain didn't do that. BUT it's still such a good reveal. He's so good at being creepy and manipulative. And it's not even entirely on him. The environment they're both in is so abusive and controlling, that made it that much easier for someone like him to take advantage of Eleven like that.

Date: 2025-03-04 08:48 pm (UTC)I had the same thought! I was keeping an eye out for him and when I saw him in the credits (and having not seen him) I figured ‘ahh he’s doing double duty voicing/playing Vecna’ I guess it comes from watching other things and knowing that sometimes they hide actors like that
But yeah it was such a good reveal, the way he turned was just so good (I need to see more stuff with him) and yeah exactly! That space was so awful and you’re so right
