Thanks for all the replies to the last post about mum and her fall. So an update on that before getting to the rest of the post.
For most of Sunday mum rested and seemed to be ok, though had a bit of trouble moving later and still had hand issues, struggling to use it. She did decide to try and call the doctor to see what to do, but alas it wasn’t much help.
She first called and they said they’d call back with info, but she had to call back. After making an appointment for next week and seeing a friend, she’s decided we’re going to the hospital tomorrow. We’re gonna be leaving at about 9:30 but who knows how long we’ll actually be there for (so I’ll take my pad, book and some stuff to read).
Hopefully everything will turn out ok and her hand is aching cause it’s shook up but who knows.
Hopefully we won’t be there all day too but…
Also Sunday I started building the phantom II and ghost Lego which is 13 bags so is a lot. (I’ve only done the first 5) The phantom II is so cute, if a lil smol and I’m glad chopper is in there cause he’s cute and a menace.
At the night I ended up blue screening a bit, likely cause of being so stressed. I was unable to decide on anything so just laid there for like half an hour plus, which was annoying.
Anyway onto the main part of the post, thoughts on various things. All the cut causa spoilers. First Late Night With The Devil, then Doctor Who, then Eurovision.
Late night with the devil was something I watched last week, but forgot to post about at the time. I was curious about it since I first heard about it and saw the trailer so when it came to shudder I knew I had to watch. (Even though it used ai for its art, which is so odd since everything else is period authentic)
It turned out to be pretty good I thought even though some parts were a bit odd. The opening exposition did feel a tad long, the sone of the behind the scenes segments felt odd (especially an early one would the producer guy really have been ok having a private convo recorded?) and the end did feel odd too.
But on the whole it was pretty good and I did enjoy it. It made me think of Ghostwatch’s studio segment a lot.
I really need to get back to watching stuff on shudder, I’ve got a bunch of things on my list there and meant to watch them but I’ve stalled. Hopefully I can watch something else soon, maybe Uzumaki which I’ve wanted to see forever and it got added awhile ago.
Onto Doctor Who now though.

The new series started a Saturday, and they’ve made an odd choice of having two episodes. I dunno why they did it, especially cause it’s not a two parter ep and this series is only 8 eps so is shorter than most already.
First there was Space Babies.
When I saw in the trailers there was gonna be an ep set on a space station with a monster, I was excited cause I love eps like that and it feels like there hasn’t been one in awhile. (Which is a shame cause they tend to be pretty good) however there’s no escaping the titular space babies which… I dunno I wasn’t sold on them (or the whole reason for them being abandoned).
The monster was pretty good though (even after the reveal) and the Doctor is just so amazing, he really elevated the ep and made it better than it would’ve been. (Although it did feel there was a scene cut towards the start, cause they kept talking about pushing the button which was apparently due to a song that got cut so it was odd to have cut it)
Second was The Devil’s Chord which was my fav of the two.
The info on the ep before release was focussed on it being a Beatles ep, so I expected them to be more of the focus. (I expected the baddy to have been targeting them specifically). So it felt odd that they were barely in it.
However the Maestro was an awesome baddy and had real presence whenever they were on screen and I really hope they return again. (Even though parts of their ‘plan’ felt odd)
Also I loved the mention of Susan, which I thing has been the first time she’s been named in the new series. It’s odd that the doctor doesn’t know her fate, so it feels like foreshadowing for her return (I hope so!). Also it was nice to have a cameo from June Hudson, the costume designer from the 4th doctor, as the old lady. That was so sweet to see her.
However it did feel like this ep was meant to be later in the series and was bought forward to have a music ep coincide with Eurovision, which feels like an odd thing to do.
Over both eps there’s a few things set up. A mysterious woman has made two more appearances (after making two in the specials), plus there’s more references to ‘the one who waits’ and the mystery about Ruby’s birth and who she is.
Next is Boom, which I expect to be different in tone and more serious, at least from the info.

Lastly is Eurovision which… ugh.
Usually this time of year I get in the mood for it by having a Eurovision playlist and such but this time I didn’t because the mood just wasn’t there. In part it’s cause of my iffy mindset but it’s also down to Eurovision’s dumb decision keeping Isreal in.
Really it should have been kicked out months ago, especially since they kicked out Russia a few years ago. It’s honestly baffling that they kept them in for so long, despite petitions, protests and various other concerns.
Then this past week the Israeli delegation and broadcaster has been actively disparaging and harassing other acts, which should be enough to get them banned but again, Isreal is allowed to get away with it’s bad behaviour (which like the country is now). Thankfully they didn’t win, so that means they can be dealt with (albeit they should have been sooner).
But damn you really felt the hate for them in the arena. They were booed, both when they were performing, whenever they were mentioned and also the EBU representative was booed as well (due to Netherlands being disqualified at the last minute, which made Isreal being kept in even more jarring).
But yeah the atmosphere was off for the whole thing but even more so when you hear about stuff happening there. Security was high (there was even snipers on roofs?? Which seems excessive), people had flags taken off them (not just Palestine ones but also EU ones and non-binary ones). And some artists have spoke about how terribly they were treated which makes the whole thing seem like a joke and not the usually one.
However on a bright not, Isreal not only didn’t win but one of the artists that they harassed won. And they were non-binary! (In fact there were two non-binary acts up this year, Switzerland and Ireland and both were so different and so awesome).
But yeah this year just…. Wasn’t as fun as it usually is and there had better be some systematic changes in the coming days and weeks because everyone is pissed
Anyway now I’m gonna bundle up and rest cause I feel drained and I’m not looking forward to spending tomorrow at the hospital.
