shadowhiveThis is meant to be a longish post but I woke up headachy and kinda gr7mpy (not an uncommon thing lately) so we’ll see.
First yesterday.
The Tubbo charity merch came which was a surprise because when I last checked it (on Thursday) tracking said it was still in the US. I love the jacket, it’s so pretty and the long sleeve (I dunno why I thought it was a sweater or something) looks so nice too.
Of course the good mood from getting it diminished because someone was back to looking at those ridiculous silver things despite saying she’d stop. We talked about it when walking the pup, I thought it was settled (again) and then later it came up again and I just… I can’t with her over these things anymore. I even offered to put some towards it for her birthday but that didn’t seem to matter. Ugh
(And now as I’m typing this post she’s looking at something else about it again, ugh!)
I think I’ve talked myself out of going to the Tommy show. Sure it’s in Wolverhampton so it’s pretty close and I know where it is, but the timing is bad (though there’s still tickets now despite them being on sale over an hour ago which is a surprise) and I don’t particularly want to be in a room with that many teenagers because ugh they’d be so loud and annoying. Maybe if I wouldn’t be going alone but… eh
Last night was Picard so thoughts end the cut.
This ep answered some things and has also raised more. We get an emotion conversation between Picard and Beverly about why she didn’t tell him and why she left. Her reasoning, that Picard was in danger every week at the time and so it would put a target on his son’s back, was actually so valid. Was it the right decision to make though? I’m not sure, it certainly wasn’t fair on Picard (and she could have told him when things had calmed down) but at least there is an understandable reasoning there.
Back on the bridge the captain gets incapacitated, leaving Riker in charge though he is clearly not happy about this. And for good reason, these two men have commandeered his ship and put his crew in danger. Shaw maybe an ass but that’s a valid concern one which came up over and over again during the ep.
It became clear they had two choices: hide and then run or hide and the attack. Run was the one that made most sense to me (attack would put lives at risk and it’s not as if it was their ship and they knew all it’s capabilities) but at the end it proved pointless either way. Because Vadic’s ship has portal gun tech and used fun with portals to prevent both. (And thus dooming them all as a result.)
Because that’s a clear link between them and who Worf is tracking we go back to them. Worf had definitely knew more than he first told Raffi and it turns out that the people behind it are, of all people, founders. Yep, changlings from the dominion war that didn’t accept the peace are involved which was a massive surprise but makes sense (like when the Crushers were attacked but every time it was someone different). (And the reference to Odo was also 🥺). Worf also thinks the Daystrom attack was a distraction, that they stole something else. My theory here is that they stole Lore (cause Brent is gonna be in the series but they didn’t say who) although why? I’m not sure. They could have also stole a bunch of other things too.
The changelings being involved also means they have a saboteur on the titan (found by Jack who frees Seven to figure it out). He sees… something too. It could be a hallucination or result of the head wound but I suspect it’s to do with the nebula thing they’re in.
Of course this also raises an issue: if the changeling’s goal is to kidnap Jack for an unknown reason why did they not just take him while he was knocked out. And why even want him in the first place?
I guess we’ll see.
Also Trek related but Discovery is ending soon which isn’t a surprise but… I dunno. I’m still pretty behind (because it got yoinked off Netflix before I could finish the season on there and so lost my place) but it kinda also feels… fatiguing? Because every season felt the need to have a new and worse universe ending disaster which was just… ugh. I dunno maybe the eps I didn’t see were pretty good but I dunno.
Last night I managed to continue the Who run with The Chase. The Chase is pretty ambitious in that it’s a chase (as the name implies) which means that there were plenty of different locations over the course of it. It went from a desert planet with two suns (not that one), New York, the Mary Celeste, a haunted house attraction and the planet Mechanus. It meant that there were a wide variety of locations and sets and so many were different that it made me wonder how they actually pulled it off (at least this has a making of).
It does take a bit of awhile for the chase to actually get going, with a large chunk of part 1 being looking at different things on the new time space visualiser after fixing it (is it shown again after this? I can’t remember). Once the chase gets going it’s pretty good, although some places are less effective than others. The top of the Empire State Building feels a bit out of place (and kinda overlong and odd) and the Mary Celeste bit feels a bit strange too with the crew seeing daleks and just… jumping off the boat to their deaths (they don’t even get to exterminate!). The other places work better.
The desert planet works pretty well and I felt sorry for its inhabitants who seem to just be screwed over (by losing their once an before the ep, getting the more beasts, losing their city and now daleks). Mecanaus has a swamp that gives web planet vibes (and there’s cool giant mushrooms) and then there’s the Mechanoid city which looks so cool (it’s a shame they’re only in the last part and don’t show up again, I really should watch that Dalek animated thing with them). The haunted house is pretty spooky too, and gives the visual of Frankenstein’s creature and Dracula vs the daleks which is a wild visual (although sadly Vicki gets left behind but at least she has the sense to sneak in the Dalek ship)
The robot double of the doctor doesn’t quite work, because in some shots it’s clearly not him (and the doctor isn’t even in the same shot so he could have played him, especially since in other shots it is him).
The ep is also odd cause it introduces a companion in the last part… only for him to seemingly go back into the burning city instead of joining the tardis so I’m curious how he’ll turn up next time. It also has Ian and Barbara heading home at last which is actually kinda sad (but at least they get a good ending).
There’s a bunch of special features on the discs (though I suspect they’ll be short) which I might watch tonight).
The new Who magazine just arrived this morning and I know I’ll have such feels because the main thing is about the Sarah Jane Adventures which will no doubt fill me with feelings.
I’m gonna head out soon to pick some stuff out then I dunno.
