One step backward
Nov. 10th, 2022 11:57 pmI’m gonna preface this by me being sure that the tonight has been cursed.
But first, yesterday.
After the post we went to get a dry food for the dog. Which ended up being exhausting. But hey there was Guinea pigs to look at they were so cute and small. I didn’t leave with them but they were cute.
When I got back I listened to the Xbox uk sonic stream, but mostly dozed off.
I did watch the Nintendo indie world thing on a vod, which had several cool games but mostly Once Upon A Jester (the game Foolish, Karl and, I found later, Corpse, do voices for) was out that day. So of course I impulse bought it despite not really having time before pokemon is released, especially since I want to finish Legends.
I watched them stream some of it and it looks pretty fun.
Today started ugh. I tried to do uni stuff and there was both drilling outside and mum hoovering (which echoed up the stairs). I did a little but not much.
I watched Andor (which was pretty good and at least not completely depressing) and mail came. Both the Doctor Who magazine, plus Ghostwatch (which I’d wanted to watch for ages and came out in a special blu ray). The latter came just before I came out.
(And of course Tommy announces lore starting from tonight which I couldn’t see and will have to watch the vod.)
Trip nonsense ahoy.
The trip out has been… well it started ok (despite the ticket machine being sealed for some reason) I couldn’t get one thing mum wanted, but I got some small Pokémon books, a signed Blue album, a discounted nightbrother figure and the mini build a bear axolotl plush (which is so cute and shiny and soft). (I will admit I did look at Tamagotchi’s damnit Wilbur)
I stuck around in the hull ring for a bit and then went to the venue. The roadworks were still going but had eased a bit (but there’s more further in the city) but ug. The security guy at the end of the line was rude and said my bag, which I’ve taken to gigs since I got it was ‘too big’ so I had to go to the station luggage place (there was no way I was going to leave it at the corner shop like he suggested). Which meant no pics. And also it was £12.50! I did consider just calling it a day and going home there.
I didn’t.
Part of me wishes I had.
So after dropping it off I went back to the venue and, honestly, I felt antsy the whole time. It felt wrong not having my bag, especially cause my pad was still in it, and, since it was my timepiece, I worried i’d lose track of time. Thankfully the set it off merch (bar the anime tee which I can get on the site) was ugly as hell. (And of course they let others in with bags my size and there was a fucking cloakroom!)
Turns out the room I was in is the room Lovejoy is gonna play in so I spooked to see the upper balcony and, yeah, it looks like it has a pretty good view. So then I camped out next to a pillar, which was my intended place for the night.
First artist was ok but forgettable. The most memorable thing was the singer lady’s skirt, which was pretty nice. (Apparently there was one support that couldn’t make it, so weather she was a last minute replacement or the sets were extended I’m not sure).
Second band were Weathers and I must’ve heard them somewhere because one song was familiar (and I’m apparently following them on Spotify? I think they must e been part of the mental health thing Mikey did) The singer for some reason gave me Awsten vibes at first but damn did he have charisma. He said this was the band’s first tour outside of home and I bet it will be their only one as support.
About halfway through the set they started playing a song, a song I knew, but also knew wasn’t theirs.
They only played Famous Last Words. (Yes the MCR song!) it was an incredibly ballsy move but they pulled it off so well, damn.
I was impressed enough to leave my prime spot and head to get an album (a something I rarely do of supports). In the two+ minutes it took me to get down there (and the guy in front to be served) the band’s singer had come down to sign things. And oh no he was hot. He served me and he had sparkly eyeshadow stuff and just… pretty pretty pretty. I got their second album and ep.
I was worried I’d lose my pillar spot, but I got a place around the other side which was a slightly better one. I got a clearer view of the stage, not that it was too much use cause there were lights and smoke (and Maxx was in such an odd place, he was on my side of the stage but in a corner so he was hard to see). All eyes were on Cody though so it wasn’t too bad. (They could’ve been on earlier but they did announcement things which were kinda funny)
. I think I stayed for most of the set, though I was, sadly, trying to time myself. I left just before the medley (so I think I missed Bad Guy and the encore… I dunno if bad guy was in the encore). Ah well. At least I got to see Lonely Dance which is my fav song. (And they played Skeleton which is. Awesome too!) he did remind us a few times the show was originally meant to be 2019 which is so crazy.
By that point I was hot and a little tired anyway so I rushed back to the station, picked up my bag (realised, with annoyance, I could’ve stayed for the medley) and then found the earlier train I could’ve caught was cancelled. And the next one. So now I’m on the train to Wolverhampton and… I’m not sure what I’m gonna do from there. I got a taxi back from there before for a Sunday gig but… ugh. It’s annoying and yet another fucking expense.
Update I’m in a taxi and holy fuck it’s gonna be almost £30 what the fuck. I’m not made of money but I’m too tired to argue I just want this night to be over. (And I have to stop and get cash cause the guys card reader isn’t working ugh) *insert Ko-fi*
I was gonna try and watch the lore vod but I dunno if I have energy.
Tonight did prove my point that the universe is just… fucking with me at this point and I really, truly hate that.
Tomorrow I was gonna try and finish uni but I sense I’ll be exhausted (and also I wanna complain about the train and serif I can get compensation)
