The past few days have been semi productive.

Main thing has been gamescom, which I watched mostly in case there was a game for Christmas (mum is looking for something for her and my godmother to get, but since there’s no lego sets a game it is). Most of the games, alas, seem to be coming out next year (and there seems to be a lot of horror stuff again). The main candidates for a Christmas thing? Sonic or the new Dark Pictures game, which looks like it has major Saw vibes.

Other main thing? I ended up sorting uni out. The next course is gonna be astrophysics. The uni person I’d been emailing said it should be alright for me to do, but I’ll guess we’ll see. (Watch as I explode from it)

Yesterday we needed up going with mums friend to pick something up from a museum. It’s only a little one, so I had a wonder why pile they waited for it to get sorted. Upstairs there was a little toy exhibit and it’s so odd, because there’s some old stuff (retro daleks, a womble) but then there’s Lego, Star Wars, and even a toy I remember having as a kid (I dunno what it’s called or how to describe it though). The other bit of the museum was about the mines in the area, including a little dark bit to go through. There was a sweet old lady when I came out of it, who seemed nice.

I ended up getting a few things from the little shop. A bracelet, a little onyx turtle, a chalcedony thing (I’m sure I’ve spelled that wrong) and a little cube thing that’s like a fidget toy.

Today was Insomnia, which ended up being a long day as predicted. The way there was a little annoying cause I didn’t get a straight through train (and the ticket machine was broke again) and the train from Birmingham got cancelled. There was one 15 minutes later so it wasn’t too bad but still.

Insomnia itself was… odd. There wasn’t as many people there as I’d worried about (thankfully) but it felt kinda… strange. One of the things I’d hoped to get somewhere was a wallet/money pouch (cause the zipper of my current one is broke) but alas, nothing. There was one stalled that had funko pokemon, but they were all £20+… but the same stall had mystery boxes with three Pokémon for £30 (I almost got one, but knowing my luck two would be the ones I got). There were also two military stands, the RAF zone was low key but the army one was pretty big (including a robot, two story rock climbing thing and an artillery thing) which just seemed… odd.

But anyway.

I went the main stage for the opening, ceremony thing, which would’ve been underwhelming if it wasn’t for the awesome show the drummer put on (including a roughly 15 minute thing at the end which was pretty cool). I had a wander between that and the next thing, which was The Hot Seat, a competition between Seapeekay, Smajor and audience members. I almost submitted my name to it, but as I didn’t recognise the games I figured I’d be no help. (Alas it wouldn’t have mattered, there were issues, disconnecting controllers, one mic being quiet and one game not working.) Seapeekay did win though, which is apparently his third win. (Again there was odd vibes as there wasn’t many people there for either thing)

Next there was another panel on the smaller stage, which was for Jon Campling, who played King Regis in the latest Final Fantasy (and was apparently in Harry Potter?). This was probably one of the best parts of the whole thing, he was just so charming and played songs on his guitars (one acoustic, one electric) including songs from Prince, The Bee Gees and Green Day, ending with a Bowie song. It was surprising considering he’d only been playing 18 months. (Which makes me wanna try using the one I have)

I ended up going to get his autograph cause I saw his stand on the way in (it hadn’t been listed beforehand) and he was just so nice. I got a pic with him too thanks to someone nice offering to take them. The pics are here.

While wandering around I did decide to get some things: a llama plush, an insomnia tee (since it was i69 they knew what they were doing), some dnd cards and a random bag of dice. I looked at the dice while waiting for the train and thought they looked nice (as they were green) but nothing special. Then when I was on the train I looked again and realised that they each have a little bit of beach and a starfish! That’s so cool!

I got some freebies, but nothing too exciting. There’s some stuff to make drinks (which was nice when I tried the sample), some stickers and a little rubber duck. I’m sure there’s something else that I can’t remember.

There were some game demos to go on but they weren’t too exciting. Annoying most were pc ones using mouse and keyboard which I was faily on since it’s been ages since I’ve gamed using those things. My fav game (other than fall guys, which I went on and was actually a comfort) was a VR one. The headset fit over my glasses (thankfully) and it was pretty simple, to hit the lights as they lit up. There was also a VR game that had a smaller headset so I had to take my glasses off, which was… bad cause everything was so blurry and I couldn’t see. Oop. There was also another game I liked but I can’t remember the name. It was like a coding thing, where you do change boxes (which is a simplistic bad way of explaining it but).

Other things? The stamp for Insomnia gave me cult of the lamb vibes for some reason. I ended up wearing my Tommy hoodie cause it was coo this morning and… I wore it till I came back. I fully expected to take it off at one of the panels but I wasn’t warm enough.

I ended up leaving an hour before the end time, cause I was just tired and couldn’t think of what else to do. It makes me glad I’m not going one of the other days, because I don’t think there’s enough to do. Like yeah, tomorrow has a meet and greet and panel but not enough for me to justify going.

Now though I’m back home and just gonna watch Ranboo and maybe watch new Lower Decks tonight.

Tomorrow the new washer is coming which, ugh at least it’s finally done.

Astrophysics sounds like a very intersting but potentially difficult course. Lots of good luck!

Nope, you got it completely right. That IS how you spell chalcedony!

Insomnia does sound like it was a bit lame but it sounds like you managed to enjoy yourself in a moderate way so yay!
