Ok I am gonna do a kenobi post after all but it’ll be under the cut so read at own risk (also I need more Star Wars icons I should get on that some point)

Ok are all the people that want to read this here? Cause it’ll be spoilery for those that haven’t seen. Ok? Good.

So something I liked is that before the episodes began, there was a brief recap of the prequels which was nice and I sense a few things will end up playing into the series going forward.

But then there’s the first scene, which is a bit… the opening scene is of the jedi temple during order 66 and it shows a group of padawans getting attacked by clones. Not just any padawans but younglings. There’s definitely a case, in light of recent events, that this scene could have been cut, especially since it doesn’t relate with anything yet. I sy yet because I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that one of those younglings turns out to be Reva (although a line in the second ep makes me question that).

The very next scene is on Tatooine with the Inquisitors. At first it seems (and I think we all were assuming this) that they were there because of Obi-Wan. Turns out that no, this wasn’t the case, they were there for a different, random Jedi. The Jedi gets away from them, but does show up later to talk to Obi-wan, before being found dead in the town (suicide or murder is unclear).

It shows a little of Obi-Wan’s life, how he’s working cutting meat (assumingly from a dead Krayt) and living in a cave (and not the hovel from Ep IV). At least he’s friends with a Jawa, although his relationship with Owen is tense (most notably in when Owen comments on his failure with Anakin). At least Owen protects Obi-Wan even when he’s threatened.

I’m not sure what Reva’s deal is. In part due to her having a name (instead of just being third sister). Is she hunting Obi-Wan just for advancement or is there something personal to it. (And also Inquisitors are former Jedi but how? I never understood how the grand inquisitor, a temple guard, wasn’t killed as soon as the temple was assaulted).

Of course then there’s the big surprise of the Obi-Wan series: a visit to Alderaan! (Which I know is gonna give me feels) And we get to see a young Leia. Huge kudos to the casting people for finding this kid, because she is sassy and strong willed and athletic. Carrie would be proud. I love her come backs to her ass of a cousin. And I love Bail assuring her that she’s every bit an Organa.

(Also how cute is her little droid Lola? There’s already toys announced and I so want one)

And then she kidnapped, leading Bail to contacting Obi-Wan for help.

Now when the series trailers and pics showed Obi-Wan off world I was questioning it, because I knew he would need a VERY good reason to abandon his vigil of Luke. Leia being kidnapped is exactly that, especially when Bail comes in person and makes an impassioned speech which convinces him to go.

Cut to Part 2 and he’s on Daiyo, with him hunting her down. He manages to find her and there’s some funny scenes, with him saying that she should pretend to be he’s her father and her quipping back ‘grandfather’ without missing a beat. Her on the planet gave me vibes of Omega in one of the early bad batch eps. There’s also a touching scene towards the end where he says that she reminds him of someone, a leader and I just got all the feels.

Of course the kidnapping isn’t just random bounty hunters, it’s Reva who hired them because of the connection between Bail and Obi-Wan. She gets reprimanded by the grand inquisitor but that does stop her and later she even stabs him which was a shock. If she survives the series I’ll be surprise.

But the bigger surprise, while trying to draw Obi-Wan out is she says Vader is alive and you can just see from Obi-Wan’s face that he assumed he was dead. And then Reva says Anakin’s name and it’s like…. How the fuck does she know Anakin is Vader? I’d assumed that was a secret, so how would she know?

The aforementioned stabbing gives Obi-Wan chance to get away but you can tell he’s shaken, that he’d assumed he’d killed his padawan and friend and carried that guilt. I can already tell that Padme’s dying words will be in his head and that he’ll be going after him to try (and fail) to turn him back.

(Which is, again, a flip of what I’d assumed going in, that it would be Vader hunting Obi-wan)

So yeah I loved the first eps and am looking forward to the next ep, even though there was some issues with the scenes on Dayimo cause of most of them being dark and hard to see. And kudos for the faux Jedi there which helped Obi-Wan.
