So it’s after midnight here which makes it technically Saturday so…. Song time! this time though, instead of focussing on a band (or a person that links them like Calvin weeks ago) it’s gonna be a theme, that theme being vampires. (I’ve had this in mind for awhile but it was just two vids then and now it’s three).

Surprisingly despite being a popular supernatural creature vampires don’t appear that often in videos. In fact it’s surprising that MCR never did a full blown vamp vid, especially since they were often compared to vampires, had two songs with the word vampires in the title and their return vid had vampires. But I digress.

So first we have Tonight Is The Night I Die by Palaye Royale which is the most recent video. A vampire theme seems appropriate for the boys, if only because of their aesthetic. I mean look at them, they often wear outfits that look as if they’re from another time, especially Emerson.

As mentioned before in regards to Palaye, they’re pretty boys and also brothers (though annoyingly there’s not much fic of them, damn purity culture).

But yeah the video is bloody (though not overly so), the brothers are hot and the ending is sad but also open. I really should get an icon from this. Its also quite impressive since this was filmed over lockdown. (Its also one of my fav songs off The Bastards so I’m glad it got such a good vid)

Anyway…

The second vid is one that you’ve probably all seen, Fall Out Boy’s A Little Less Sixteen Candles. The guys are vampire hunters, but Pete got turned sometime prior to the video. It let to quite a few Aus back in the day, understandably so not just because vamp Pete is hot but also the cameos from other bands. There’s Brendon from Panic!, Travis from Gym Class Heroes and William from The Academy Is… who is probably the most memorable if only because he has the most screen time nonchalantly watching a fight break out.

As such it’s a pretty epic vid especially the closing minutes and it even got an extended cut (which is the one I posted). I do wonder if Pete asked Mikey to get involved or if it was before their whole thing (I’m never sure on the timelines so). And also Spencer would’ve made a hot vamp, I wonder if he’s in the background somewhere.

Finally something completely different.

Lastly we have Phixx, Love Revolution. Now I’m sure all of you know Fall Out Boy and you’ve probably have heard of Palaye but chances are none of you know who Phixx are. That’s not terribly surprising. They released a few singles (3? 4?) and then they disappeared. They never even released an album in the uk (though it got released… somewhere for some reason, South Africa or somewhere). It’s a shame because the boys were pretty.

I remember watching this vid when I first had a music channel and it was on quite a bit. It’s a pretty good song but I liked it because, well, the guys are in states of undress (Hold On Me had a similar objectification thing with the boys). The vampirism part only shows up right at the end, and it bares no real baring on the vid but… eh. It was good to watch it again.

***

After the post yesterday I watched Mitchell’s Vs The Machines which was… it was fun, but it was pretty predictable a lot of the time. The part with the furby’s was probably my fav part.

Today was exhausting because I headed to town and I ended up getting a bunch of stuff. I didn’t get some things I hoped though but… I got some dye and a bug hotel from Poundland (and something called a Calico Critter which is so cute and I wish I got another), then from the market outside I got Among Us keychains and reversible octopus plush (though I wish I hadn’t got them from the first stall I seen). Everything else I got was random stuff, a few colouring books, some books from the works and some things for the pets.

But ugh it was exhausting being around people again.

We walked the pup and saw some fluffs and I got pics. They were geese, coots and moorhen babies, though there’s still no sign of the ducklings. Also the swans are awol, so I guess the adults took the babies… somewhere. I’m not sure where but hopefully they’re oki.

I’m likely gonna go get some snuggling upstairs then zzz. I’m sure there was something else I was gonna say but… it’s gone.

Heh, the FOB song is the first thing I thought of when you said "vampires."

It *is* weird that MCR didn't do more vampire-centric videos. I think there was one for "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" but it was kind of vague and not nearly as concept-heavy as their later stuff.

I'm also thinking of HIM now, who have several vampire-related songs, but almost all their videos are performance based, and none of the conceptual ones are vampire-centric. Wonder why?

You might like Hyde/VAMPS (not to be confused with The Vamps): J-rock with a lot of vampire-related songs, and vampire-related videos.

Also, Hyde did a movie with another J-rock superstar, Gackt, in which they play vampires, called "Moon Child." It is utterly ridiculous and I have watched it three times.

Summer of Like was 2005, which the hell, I've been in this fandom a long time. Which suggests Mikey could have easily been in the video. Guess I'll just have to tell myself they'd be role-playing as vampires off-screen.

Obviously, I've seen Sixteen Candles but didn't think I had the others, though when I watched realised I remembered Phixx. Probably from when I had Kerrang on as much background noise back in the day.

Such a great choice of theme for this weekend.

I'm glad you survived all the people, and thank you for sharing the floofs.

I remember well the joke "What happened to Joe (in the final battle)?" And the answer: "He went across town to get My Chemical Romance."

I swear that Spencer is in that video somewhere, but he's not featured. Mike Carden from the Academy Is... is there too. He's the one that's swinging a guy into a plate glass window.

I know of at least one author who turned her vamp FOB verse fic into an actual YA novel. I was very proud.

Hmmm, the Palaye boys are very pretty and enjoy their aesthetic and as much as I like vampires, I could really do less with men running down and attacking women...

Ahhh FOB and vampire AUs... It's been eons since I've watched this vid so it was fun to do. THEY'RE SO YOUNGGGGGGG, look at those baby faces. And oh Pete, living all his action hero fantasies.

Never seen the Phixx video before but they absolutely get bonus points because after a lot of squinting, I'm about 95% sure that the other couple on the sofa (with the singer and the f/f couple) is two guys and that is refreshing.
