So I figured I should do a new weekly thing, inspired in part by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith‘s comment on my last snowflake post. Every Saturday I’m gonna post a music video and then talk a bit about it. (so technically is Music video Saturday but that doesn’t have the same ring to it)

So the first one is Lonely Dance by Set It Off. (Tw for aliens, body horror, death, though none is really graphic)

So last year someone on the MCR discord (who is now gone which sucks) introduced me to Set It Off. They did so with two music videos, Hourglass and Lonely Dance. I was hooked pretty much instantly and it helped that the drummer (Maxx) is so cute and Cody, the singer, has his moments too. I actually think that Lonely Dance is my favourite song of theirs. The lyrics just... resonate so much.

That being said the Lonely Dance video is one of those things where the video isn’t what you’d expect it to be. (Much like how the Ghost Of You video by MCR isn’t what you’d have thought it would be.) In fact it makes me curious about how the idea came to be (I dunno if there’s an interview of behind the scenes thing about it, it’s one of the reasons I want the recent book that the band have done for that reason).

It’s set on a spaceship and, in the vein of alien there is a monster aboard. By the end it feels like it has an Among Us vibe, since there is an ‘imposter among us’. The sets and costumes and make up are all great (to the point where I wonder if they were from something else and they just were able to borrow them) and it makes me wonder why there’s no real fic inspired by it.

Causa this I’ve gotten into the band in a big way to the point where I’m like ‘why I had I missed them?’

But yeah, let me know what you guys think if you watch it too!

*

Last night I did some Valhalla and then watched Disenchantment. I thought it was just gonna be the opening ep but it turns out to be the whole season so I’m likely gonna watch a few eps a night. I watched two last night and it’s so funny and I’m curious to see how things turn out (thankfully the recap at the start was long and necessary)

When I was looking for it on Netflix I noticed that Carmen Sandiego has new eps so I’ll be watching that soon as well (I still need to finish Julie and The Phantoms too).

This morning I put on the next Penumbra podcast but I got strangely unfocused part way through so I’ll have to finish it another time, boo.

We’re gonna walk the pup then it’s watching stuff including the new QI and Wandavision before the Masked Singer later (and hopefully a shudder film with Doritos tonight.

Ahhh, Set It Off is so much fun! I barely "know" them at all, but they were one of the opening bands last time I saw the Black Veil Brides, and they played a fantastic set. At one point, Cody walked out over the crowd, and I was one of the people holding him up. Good times! *sigh* I miss concerts so much.

And hold up, Carmen Sandiego is on Netflix? Oooh, I need to put that on my list.

I miss concerts! *sobs* We are still quite a ways away from them being safe, too. Dammit. I need to live vicariously through DVDs and YouTube captures.

Cool! *adds to queue* I used to watch the TV show all the time as a kid, and played the computer game, and the board game, *and* saw Rockapella (the band that did the theme song) live once in college. I'm usually wary of reboots, but the Netflix cartoons have been knocking it out of the park lately.

I really liked that video and song, and in fact, have just tabbed it on YouTube so I can watch more after posting this comment.

Thanks for linking.

I enjoyed The Masked Singer last night, and need to watch Wandavision. I'll be interested to see what you think.

Ooooh, hey thanks for the band rec. I loved the video (what a great au premise!) and the sound and after checking out a few of their other vids, they are now on my Spotify follow. Love finding new music. So catchy. And very easy on the eyes, all of them.

I've had this on my list to come back and listen to for a while, and have finally gotten around to it. I like it; it's catchy, but with a bit of an edge to it (it's got that vaguely threatening feel to it that I love in my music).

Really reminds me of someone though, and I can't place it.
