The most tiring time of the year
Dec. 23rd, 2025 06:05 pmThis post is gonna be two halves. First Christmas related stuff, then stuff I e watched.
So first, thanks for the cards
turps and
turlough for the cards! They’re very sweet. Because of stress and everything I’ve not sent any alas (I only wrote on mums last night). Hopefully next year will be better for that,
So in a prior post I mentioned the Christmas food issue that suddenly came up and we went yesterday… at 6pm. Which ugh.
On Sunday mum had suddenly had the idea for us to go earlier, walking down in the morning instead of going by car as planned but I shut her down because it would mean we couldn’t get as much and the weather (which rained that night).
Going at 6 wasn’t ideal, we were under the impression we’d be going between 2-4 but it is what it is. Things were pretty crazy, especially when I went into m and s and Aldi alone (m and s especially I just got my sushi and left). But apparently it had been even worse., with people waiting an hour just to park! Alas nowhere had the veggie wellington I hoped to get, but I did get a wreath thing instead which sounds similar enough. (And Aldi had the churro bites we tried). Alas sainsburys was cleared out of a lt of things (none of the nice mini tacos boo!) but was at least a bit less crazy. It all did leave me so drained and wiped which, bleh.
Today I sorted mums Xmas stuff, which feels like not much but that’s cause a bunch of clothes is in a big and there’s a bracelet. Though I did have a panic thinking the latter had gone missing but turned out it had been moved to a safe spot that I’d forgot.
But yeah I’m all set for it now. The next few days are mostly gonna spent bundled up and watching stuff (it feels there’s a festive version of a show, a murder mystery and a good film on most days) and then avoid the internet until Saturday night when I can watch vol 2 of Stranger Things.
Speaking of good work Amazon, they had the preorder of the new Will Byers Funko last night so I did it. Which was good cause Funko had a day and time for him and they were sold out in under an hour and a half. I really think everyone is underestimating the Stranger Things hype for things. It feels primark is the only company that has been prepared.
Also speaking of my Funko order came this weekend, of course when we were out, all I had was it was ‘left with a neighbour’ but it didn’t say which one which was stressful, but eventually I got it. Along with another package I didn’t know was coming, an rpg calendar thing I’d done on kickstart which should be interesting.
Edit: Ugh I’d hoped I’d be able to have spare money to get something, but of course it’s had to go already cause the Lego mum ordered for Xmas is apparently ready now (I thought the money had been taken when the order was made and it was on back order till the middle of next month). The mail says I’d 5 days to sort it which isn’t ideal when so many are Christmas/Boxing Day. I’ve transferred the money and sent them a message (@;£ will try calling in the morning) but ughh that’s an annoyance.

Onto the media half. Strictly was pretty good, though it is a little sad it being Claudia and Tess’ last show (the tribute thing for them in the results was so sweet). I had hoped George would win but Karen was still a good winner too.
Sunday was a lazy day with watching a Poirot ep (Hercule Poirot’s Christmas), How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which was fun and then the finale of The War Between The Land And The Sea.
I had been worried about it not being able to resolve things but it managed to mostly, though I’ve gotta admit it’s ending was one I predicted and hoped was wrong. But of course humanity would fuck things up by genociding another race instead of working with them.
(I wasn’t a fan of how Aquakind acted in this either. Was there a faction of them always acting like the severance humans wanting to wipe humans out from the start? Or was the increased hostility a response to the suicide bomber from ep 3?it could go either way and it’s a shame we’ll never know)
Some people did criticise Barcley for leaving his family to live underwater but honestly, it was clear he wasn’t going to have much of a life on land. He’d essentially be a prisoner for life, is that really much of a life? (And I can understand him falling for Salt, I mean did these people not see the Aquakind guards? They were hot)
But yeah, I’m glad at least some Aquakind survived but it’s clear co-operation is impossible and they’ll just hide away. (And humans will probably memory hole it, like the events of miracle day and all the other stuff that goes on in the Who Earth)
After that was Beyond Paradise which was nice. I mean the central crime was a bit thin but the other parts of it more than made up for it (especially the ending which was so sweet).
Then in the night I watched God Is A Bullet. Thoughts under a cut to make the post smaller
I got the film solely because of Garrett Wareing being jn it and I saw pics of him and he looks so hot in his fits here is what he looks like. His character was easily my fav one, both for looking like that and having the best scenes (slashing the main guy with a knife, a convo wearing the wig, being in the background looking hot, beating the main guy with a baseball bat)
But the film itself? It was a bit of a slog. It’s about this cop whose daughter gets abducted (and ex killed) by a group of ‘satanists’. He goes on a mission to track her down, with the help of a former member of the group who escaped from it.
He didn’t endear himself to me in one of their first interactions when he said to her ‘maybe if you had faith it would have protected you’ when she talked about being in the ‘cult’. Thing is she was abducted at 11 (with the implication she was drugged/abused/raped) so that really pissed me off when that was his attitude. (Which made me glad when he got slashed and beaten)
My main issue with the whole thing is that this group are called satanists and yet you wouldn’t think it. There’s no sign they did rituals or anything like that at all. In fact they acted pretty much like regular drug dealing thugs. I don’t understand why they specifically made them Satanists only not to do a single thing with that. Maybe if they did I’d have enjoyed it mroe (or at least been more interested). As it was that felt wasted.
It’s also not explained why the ‘satanists’ took his daughter. It’s implied it was targeted (since she was taken from her home) but there’s zero follow up on it. It’s not as if the cop was investigating them and they took her as revenge (neither side knew each other) so it’s another unsolved mystery.
On the plus side the make up department did an amazing job. All of the ‘satanists’ had tattoos and a lot of them too. They all looked so incredible, so a+ work effects people you did amazing there. Also on the plus side (other than Garrett Wareing’s Wood), was Case, the girl that the main guy is working with. She is easily the better of the two protagonists and actually feels sympathetic (and funny and smart).
But overall it was kinda… eh. I might watch it again sometime but if I do it’s for Wood not for the plot. Cause it is kinda standard stuff and the interesting parts don’t get used nearly enough. (Apparently it is based on a book, so I’ve no idea if it’s a bad adaption that hasn’t translated well or if it’s a good adaption and the source material is similarly lacking)
Anyway happy christmas/holidays/Dionysia/time off, Ihope everyone has a nice time doing whatever you may be doing. Be it spending time with family, snuggling with pets or just being flop and watching stuff.
(There’ll probably be no more posts from me for a few days, unless I finish fic)
