So after the last post I did see Welcome To Derry and ahh! I’m so glad I saw the first It film last week cause that made things hit so much better than they otherwise had (especially the last scene). This ep confirmed that Charlotte Hanlon is the best of the adult main characters. (And also that Taniel is the most pretty man in a Derry and so based) bring on next week’s ep!

Yesterday was the library stint and I read a few more chapters of Halloween party (said party has happened, a body found and Poirot introduced), then then rest of the day was mostly low energy.

Today was the town trip. My mp3 player is so odd. I put the member versions of Everyone’s A Star! as seperate files but the player has plays them as one which is so puzzling. And annoying cause putting the album on plays every song four times as result (bar bonus tracks)

Befroe the cinema I grabbed a drink then went in Asda and ahh! They had a plushie of scoops ahoy Steve! He was the only one there but alas the queue was too long and time was getting on. I did go back later though and got him.

Between films I got noms, using points that were due to expire, then went in a few places but didn’t get much. I did get the It Chapter 2 blu ray (cex had it filed under S instead or I which was why I couldn’t find it) and I picked the jacket up though haven’t tried it on yet. The Walsall primark does seem to have most of the Stranger things stuff too which is pretty cool (bar the jacket) so maybe I’ll get something later.

There were a load of food trucks/stalls along the Main Street (I dunno if it’s an event or what) but on the way to the station I saw one had churros so I had to get them. They were really nice and I saved some for mum when I got back.

New cinema day means trailers! And quite a few were new to me, yipee! (And smushing them all together)

Whistle: this was a very vibes based trailer, but it looks pretty cool from that. I’m curious.
Send Help: At the start of it I was like ugh, but then as it went on it got better. I don’t think I’d make the effort for it though
Five Nights At Freddie’s 2: A new trailer which is pretty cool, I really need to rewatch the first)
The Mandalorian and Grogu: this one wasn’t new but I still squeed when I see it!
Mortal Kombat II: my main thoughts on this was there’s a second one? And also this was attached to a 12a film? It looks like it might be good, but again I’m not sure I’m sold on it (even though it has the guy for Ring in it)
Anaconda: this looked so bonkers and I can tell it’s gonna be a wild time. It’s actually sold me on it.
Primitive War: I read a go review of this at the station ironically. It’s basically Vietnam War+dinosaurs. It sounds like a wild concept but could be fun, though apparently that’s out in just over a week.

The first film was Keeper, which is a bit like Him, in that I saw trailers for it regularly so got intrigued enough to want to see it so was it good?

First off it’s a film set at a cabin in the woods (95% of the film is there and the surrounding woods) and honestly I’ve seen enough horror films (and other things) to be completely put off going to one irl. Especially this once which had huge windows but no blinds/curtains. Like nope.

But anyway, thoughts on the film. From the trailer the vibes were very much ‘two people go to a cabin in the woods, things happen’. The trailer kinda implied that things would be happening to both of them, which would be different from ‘guy takes woman to a cabin but is actually creep’ that these things tend to have.

Unfortunately (spoiler alert) that’s exactly the direction it went in. It tried to hide it a bit towards the start, especially when it introduced characters that weren’t in the trailer at all but it quickly was obvious that something was off with the guy. Before that was definitely confirmed though there was some genuinely unsettling moments and visuals (mostly background stuff) that were quite effective but… yeah.

Once it was apparent that yes this guy is a creep but also he’s there is supernatural stuff happening and the two are linked it kinda… I dunno. Especially the flashbacks. I had to admit I did like how it ended but overall? It’s one of those films I probably won’t watch again, which is, ironically, like Him before it.

The second film was Predator Badlands! I’ve not actually seen the mainline a predator films, just Alien vs Predator (I liked the first film but the second??) but the trailers made me so curious.

I thought it was a bold choice to make Dek, a Yautja (aka predator) the film’s protagonist and to him he just speak with subtitles throughout. The opening is especially strong, because it really sells you on this character and honestly? By the end of the film I loved him and he becomes such a badass.

Early on he meets Thia, a Weyland Yutani synergic (from the Alien films) and she could easily have been annoying but she becomes so endearing. Their relationship shouldn’t work but it somehow does. Also the actress has a dual role as Tessa, another synth who is the total opposite to Thia to the point where I wasn’t sure if they were the same actress or not. A+ range on her for that.

The visuals of the planet Genna look so great and you have to admire all the worldbuilding to it. Again a+ making a whole planet’s ecology like that. (I hope they did a feature on that for the blu ray I’d be so down for a dive into the creature/plant designs.)

The whole thing was such a lot of fun and there’s real catharsis at the end. And there’s a whole sequence just before Dek attacks a base that’s so cool, as well as the attack itself. I was practically cheering the whole time.

So yeah I really loved this one. I wonder if we’ll see more of Dek (I hope so!) and I might have to look up the other a predator films, even though I know they’ll be vastly different.

And since I’m not going to the cinema tomorrow that’s another month of the pass done.
Month 4: October 20th - November 20th
23rd: Black Phone 2
3rd: Frankenstein
5th: Shelby Oaks
19: Keeper, Predator Badlands

Five films this time which is pretty good considering. I think if I didn’t have the pass I’d have only seen one, maybe two. Again I. Glad the pass has let me take a chance on stuff and see stuff I’d normally not be able to or overlook.

Obviously my fav is Frankenstein, but Black Phone 2 and Predator Badlands are pretty equal I think, then Shelby Oaks and lastly Keeper.

I didn’t think I’d be seeing much for the next month but I think I’ll be seeing 5 things again: Wake Up Dead Man/Zootropolis 2, Five Nights At Freddie’s 2/Pillion and The Shining. The last one is a maybe, but I do wanna see it cause of Welcome To Derry which I didn’t expect.

When I got home I had a letter confirming Saturday’s appointment and ugh. At the bottom it says you can claim ‘a week’s free bus travel’ but only if you claim it 14 days before the appointment which is just so useless when I got 6 days warning. Ugh.

Also damnit Comic Con Birmingham announcing Jamie Campbell Bower with under a weeks notice. There’s no way I could go with the appointment draining me the day before (and lack of money of course) but damnit.

I haven't seen the trailer for Anaconda yet, but saw the poster when I was last at cinema, and yeah, it did look like it was going to be fun.

Hope things go well tomorrow.
