shadowhive: (The Child Soup)

After using my glasses for good chunk of yesterday it seems that my eyes can adjust to the smudge’s presence, which is good so that meant going today to the cinema.

I did kinda regret going this morning though cause ugh. There were a team of three ticket people on the train but not to check tickets they instead harassed people. The machine at the station wasn’t working and they just weren’t believing anyone or helping, so that was needlessly stressful.

In town I just went to the cinema and they had the cool Tron Ares cups that light up! They posted on their insta so I asked and the guy just gave me one saying it was free, nice!

Trailers were pretty much stuff I’d seen before though the Zootropolis one was new as was the Avatar one, plus there was the Predator one which looked like it might be interesting. However! The best one was seeing the Mandalorian and Grogu one on the big screen! Ahh I’m excite!

Thoughts on Zoopocalypse and Tron Ares under the cut.

First film was Night Of The Zoopocalypse. The premise can basically be described as a kid friendly zombie film. A thing from space lands in a zoo and starts turning the animals in what can best be described as gummy creatures. It’s up to a group of animals to figure out what’s going on, try and put a stop to it and survive the night.

The animation is really nice and the gummy creatures has this strange otherworldly glow which really works. The group fulfils traditional survive tropes, plus there’s a lemur that’s watched late night films so knows exactly the sort of deal that’s going on. My fav was probably Gracie, the wolf who is the main character and she’s great. She manages to put a plan into action (which makes logical sense) and then when it goes wrong does figure out what the solution is.

It’s pretty fun, but I just wish I hadn’t had the train thing making me rattled so I wasn’t as focussed as I could have been.

Next was Tron Ares. I don’t think I’ve seen the original film but I have seen Tron legacy….once. Forever ago. The opening did include a basic overview, so I didn’t feel lost or anything. The film was about two companies wanting to get a ‘permeance code’ which would make digital things real. What they wanted to do with this couldn’t be more different. Dillinger wanted to use it to make soldiers and weapons, Encom wanting to use it to end would hunger. When Encom’s ceo finds it first, Dillinger’s decides to go to any lengths to get it.

Visually it looks incredible, with all of Dillinger’s digital tech being illuminated in ominous red. Any time there’s a visit to the digital world, it looks so otherworldly, like a cyberpunk cityscape. And of course the music is great too. And Evan Peters is pretty good as the Dillinger ceo that doesn’t seem to register that he’s gone too far. (And Gillian Anderson as his mum felt like she was the only sane one in that company)

I can see why people haven’t liked it the plot does feel a tad thin in places, but it was pretty good. I wonder if the sequel hook will be followed up on. Also during the climax I couldn’t help but wonder, would the military be so quick to scramble fighter jets when an unknown thing appears above a city? And would they also be so quick to get them to fire missles at it when there’s a number of skyscrapers around too?

Also Cameron Monaghan (who I know from Jedi Survivor as Cal) is listed in the opening credits but is in it for a literal blink and you’ll miss it scene. I thought people were exaggerating when they said that but nope. He’s in it for about 10 seconds (at least with his face revealed)

The rest of the night is gonna be spent flop and snuggling Midna (and watching Celebrity traitors). I might sort the Coheed ticket after noms.

Then tomorrow! That’s gonna be Pokémon release day yay! So I will likely be on that for the afternoon, then Taskmaster in the night.

That does sound stressful on the train.

That's awesome you got the cup for free.

I also agree with your Tron review. The plot was thin, like, excessively so, but I still enjoyed the film. I liked the characters and visually, it was lovely to watch.
