Through all that’s foul and fair
Oct. 6th, 2024 06:06 pmSo the past few days have ended up being draining which is mostly due to Thursday. It’s time for Naryu’s annual jabs. The trouble has been on Tuesday night we found out the phone died so we couldn’t just call up and book, so the plan was to just go and turn up (I secretly hoped it would rain so it could be delayed a few more days). However mum emailed them in the morning and managed to get us a slot but only told me an hour before, so there was no time to eat and we just had to go.
I assumed it’d just be in and out (and I could check for Halloween stuff in m and s and check for SFX in sainsburys) but alas that didn’t work out.
Not cause of the check up which was a relief. This time she was fine and had no issues, but mum decided ‘since we were there’ to see if she could get a grooming appointment in the attached groomers. And they could do it right then. So now instead of just coming home we had to stay there for 2 hours which was far from ideal.
We went in tk maxx and, disappointingly, the Halloween section is now basically nothing already. The display upstairs is now Christmas which is annoying so all there was now was one shelving unit by the stairs, ugh. Then we went to sainsburys and I got a lil Lego set (a Jurassic Park one, with the jeep Nedry steals and crashes with the dino he encounters) and got the nightmare before Christmas tote they have. I went in m and s and they don’t have Halloween food but I did get the ghost train tin.
Of course when we got Naryu they said there was an issue cause they found fleas so mum panicked and got some flea stuff and then as soon as we got home insisted on doing it. Note at this point I was drained (both in terms of tiredness, hungry, socially and money wise) and just wanted to flop and rest. It didn’t help she told me to stay in the kitchen with the girls while also complaining with she was doing it alone.
We left at 10 and I wasn’t able to sit back down and eat until almost 5, which was annoying. At least the Agatha All Along ep was really good, as they are and it even included a new version of the song.
But ugh that whole thing really drained me. It didn’t help on Friday a man came to sort the phone and then Saturday mum’s friend came (though at least I didn’t have to go to town, though I had wanted to this time).
Sigh.
So continuing on from the last post vhs thoughts. I had hoped to watch 99 and 85 before Friday but alas I couldn’t watch 85 before Beyond like I hoped.
VHS 99
Segment 1: 7.5/10
Segment 2: 7/10
Segment 3: 7.5/10
Segment 4: 7/10
Segment 5: 8/10
Overall 99 was really strong I thought. Instead of a traditional wrap around there was stop motion shorts which were well down but led into the fourth segment. I did love that the fourth one also utilised a gorgon and I feel more things should have Greek mythology based horror (and Egyptian too).
Then on Friday there was the new VHS! VHS Beyond. I did almost watch 85 on Friday before it. But decided to just dive right in. (Thoughts under the cut)
VHS beyond
Wraparound: 8/10
Segment 1: 8/10
Segment 2: 9/10
Segment 3: 8/10
Segment 4: 8/10
Segment 5: 8/10
These ratings might change when I next watch it, because there’s the newness factor, but overall as you can tell I thought it was really good. All of the segments this time are based on a theme and this one is sci-fi. Most are alien based though two aren’t. One of these is the second segment which is also subtitled (and set in India) and that was my fav one. (It also includes a musical number which is so unexpected but works so well).
One of the segments is also written and directed by Justin Long and I wasn’t surprised when I found out it was Segment 4. (Which is also the other non alien one)
I also loved how all of the aliens are so different (though you don’t really get a look at the last segments one) and they all have completely different vibes. The first one has a spec ops unit, the third is a skydiving accident, the fifth is a solo person investigating ufo sightings, and the wrap around is a documentary. I’d say definitely see it!
It also makes me wonder if the next one is also gonna be theme based rather than year based. Agaain I’d like to see mythology based things as well as something water based.
I was gonna watch 85 last night but might tonight or tomorrow.
Friday I was able to get back on Echoes of Wisdom and I went to Jabul Waters because I’m a sucker for Zora stuff.
I really loved this area and I love the sea and river zora, their relationship and them playing music together! I’m glad the chiefs resolved their differences over the questline and I love the lil river zora that Zelda was able to help. The dungeon had a similar vibe to the water temple which I liked too.
Next time it’s to the gerudo desert if I don’t get distracted.
Other gaming thing I’ll have to speed run the fall guys and Fortnite passes cause I didn’t realise they were almost over but both have spooky ones coming up. Fingers crossed I can do them (though I’m annoyed at Lego fortnite as I lost my inventory pack and can I find it? No cause the marker isn’t working for some reason)
Last night my mood went down really hard which was so annoying and that continued to this morning. It was was so annoying. Is this a sign more downswings are ahead? I hope not. I’m just gonna have to try and distract myself from them which… ugh..
Thankfully it eased up for todays dungeons and dodongos though t was annoying that both the laptop needed updates and the lamp next to the bed seems to have messed up so I couldn’t use the cam. The session was good though it does make me wanna go on Majora’s Mask again (is it on the switch’s 64 thing?). Also I noticed the small Ranboo particle is awol and I couldn’t find it when I searched so I have no idea where it’s gone and it’s gonna bug me.
Other good things. I won a Ranboo particle tee on their stream the other day so that should be here in a few days (it’s already in the country) and I had a Magnus Archives tee with the fears come (cause it was on sale) which looks so pretty.
It’s two weeks till my birthday, which ugh. I’ll probably just flop with cake and dnd.
Next weeks spooky stuff plans:
*Finish reading Rogue, start I Want That Twink Obliterated
*Start Stranger Things season 2 finally
*Get back to Song Of Horror (or some other spooky game)
*Watch Smile on Netflix and Uzumaki on shudder
*Start the horror baking thing on Amazon prime (I’ve forgot the name)
I’m sure I was gonna post something else too but it’s gone out of my head.

Ugh. I was afraid of that. I still haven't been out to get the rest of my costume. I need to find the nearest Spirit Halloween, but I dunno where they've set up shop this year. I should just drive around one day until one appears. They're kinda like cryptids--you can find one when you're not looking, y'know?
Skimming the VHS stuff bc I've only seen 94 for my marathon so far! The stop motion idea sounds cool though! Ooooh, and I had no idea Uzumaki was on Shudder. That's awesome! It's been ages since I've seen it, and it was . . . an experience. Prepare yourself for a lot of random wipe edits. Like even more than they do on Star Wars.
My latest movie watched was Late Night With the Devil, on a rec from my new horror movie buddy coworker. It's a fake documentary/found footage of the last episode of a late night talk show that was supposed to air on Halloween, and one of the guests is . . . possessed? It was neat. Very kitschy.
Next on my list is Hausu, if I can find it. Last I checked it was Archive.org, but who knows if that's still the case. I've been meaning to watch it for years, but it's maddeningly elusive. I guess that's what makes it a cult classic.
I'm really curious to see what you think of Smile. One of the most divisive movies that's come out recently. People seem to either love or hate it.

Date: 2024-10-06 08:42 pm (UTC)Oh no that sucks! I hate that we can’t even have Halloween before Christmas takes over😭 I hope you find it and a spirit Halloween!
Ohh I hope you like the next ones! Yeah the stop motion is cool. It is here at least, I’ve lays anted to see it (I think the trailer was on my ring dvd) but never have. Ohh👀
Oh! I saw that a few months back and I thought it was really good too! It totally nailed the vibe it was going for
Ohh I’ve not heard of that
I saw it in the cinema when it came out and remember liking it for the most part (other than the cat😭) I mostly wanna rewatch before the new one

Date: 2024-10-06 09:05 pm (UTC)Ugh, I know!! I might just dig through my existing costumes and throw something together. I have several pieces of spooky jewelry that I can do something with if I need to. I really wanted to be a Dark Jedi this year, but oh well.
I'm looking forward to it! I always like seeing new directors, and this is a good way to check some out. Isn't there also a movie called Stop Motion that came out this year? I've vaguely heard of it. Not sure if I'm interested or not.
It was so good! They nailed the vibes of the time period, and all the character types they had. The fake--OR IS HE?--psychic, the homespun parapsychologist, the condescending skeptic. And of course all the long-suffering producers and behind-the-scenes people just trying to get through the day. I was less convinced by the spooky child, but that's a high bar to be fair. You've seen one spooky child, you've kinda seen them all, know what I mean? It was good though.
Also known as "The House." Japanese haunted house cult classic with REALLY bizarre visuals. It looks garish and cartoony. I think a piano comes to life and eats someone at one point? I'm excited.
Ugh, I know. I saw that coming, but I was still like, "Really? That's your best idea?" I think that was my biggest problem with it, from what I remember: it was so predictable. Even the jump scares barely worked for me.
Side-bar: CAN WE TALK ABOUT ANDY'S SWEENEY TODD ERA FOR A MINUTE??? I only saw the "Bleeders" video for the first time like two days ago, and only then because I've been looking for inspiration for my Spooky Season playlist this year, and it came up as a suggestion. I was like, "This has been out for HOW LONG? How did I MISS THIS?" And yeah, it's because that's when I was moving, and had no internet for like a month and a half. That's exactly what happened. Also missed them coming to Virginia this year, for the same reason. Gah!!

Date: 2024-10-06 09:15 pm (UTC)Oh that’s a good idea! I dunno if I’m dressing up but dark Jedi sounds fun!
Yeah it really is! I think so, it definitely rings a bell.
Yeah everything was so well done it was so impressive. Though yeah I get what you feel about the spooky kid. If you liked that I have a similar thing that you might like. It’s a show called Ghostwatch. It was shown on tv on Halloween 92 and it plays out like it’s a live broadcast looking into a haunted house. It has a similar kinda vibe to late night (it has a skeptic, a parapsychologist, even spooky kids) but the vibe is so different
Oh that does sound really fun!I'll have to look into it
Yeah I saw it coming too but hoped I was wrong😭 I guess we’ll see what I think when I rewatch
I’ve still not seen it just the photoshoot the icon is from and loved the vibe I’ll have to watch it

Date: 2024-10-06 10:40 pm (UTC)Yay! It sounds like they really picked up again. I'm glad this franchise is cooking.
I've heard of Ghostwatch! It definitely sounds fun. I'm kind of putting off new TV shows until this particular marathon is over (apart from the Buffy rewatch I got myself into), but I'll keep it in the queue!
Yeah, I wonder how it holds up on a rewatch. I wasn't inclined to watch it again, but let me know!
Oh man, you gotta check it out. It is fully a Sweeney Todd homage. They went extra bloody with it.

Date: 2024-10-07 12:02 am (UTC)Yeah it is! Like I mentioned in the post I wonder if they’ll making the next few themed like beyond is, but I guess we’ll see
That’s fair! I can relate I have so many things on my list and I’m not getting through any! If it helps Ghostwatch is a one off thing (so it’s more like a movie kinda)
Yeah I wonder too! Im mostly watching so I have the lore fresh for the sequel (which does look like it’ll be better) so we’ll see
Oh nice! I’ll have to watch it soon! I’ve been so sidetracked and bleh lately I’m behind on so much
