Finally another time for a regular post. I’ve still not been through the snowflake friend post though, alas, maybe I will this week.

Thankfully I’m feeling much better, at least physically, now, though the past few days have still been its share of annoyances (and good things too though)

First was there finally a new Lost Tapes ep on Friday. It’s felt like so long since the last one, which has been a bit of a shame. Karl didn’t seem to take into account that this time of year would be hard to sort things out, hence why it’s taken so long. Still it was pretty good and the ending was a surprise to pretty much everyone.

(And also it sparked an idea that I had to do.)

Mum’s friend came Saturday which was a source of annoyance. It feels like the only reason she comes is to use our internet to find things to buy. I really don’t get why she doesn’t have internet herself, but what I understand less is that she doesn’t have a credit or debit card, so we have to buy these things and she gives us money. Of course this thing was over £100 (she wanted one almost three times as much, I’m glad it was out of stock) though it being Saturday meant that the bank shut early which meant I had to put it in at the machine outside. Which is annoying, because it takes days to go in (it’s thankfully in now) which is so stressful.

I’d not have even bothered going to town if it wasn’t for mum wanting to send a top back (cause the size was wrong) and there isn’t the store anywhere else. The town trip felt like a waste of time though there was nothing I hoped to get there (no donuts at Iceland, the Empire magazines in smiths were in bad condition) but at least I got nice bread and a fox plush (and a little muttley toy)

When I got back we went to a table top thing up the road and got a few books and I also picked up a pretty looking necklace and lil fox thing.

That night was the streamer awards, which ended up going in late into the night so was exhausting. (And of course most of the categories I was interested in were towards the end. Quackity won two awards which was kinda expected (though I feel Foolish should’ve won minecrafter), Etoiles won one and the one I’m most surprised is Name Your Price winning. Yeah it’s fun and always a good time but I was sure the fanbases of Paranormal Order and Gen Loss would’ve meant it was between them.

Though ugh why was everyone so pretty? I mean damn Foolish

Sunday I felt a bit out of it cause of the late night, but I watched a film and finished a fic, then put on an audio thing. Then today has felt even odder, though I did watch Ring and finished a chapter of my uni book (which felt overlong) and I have started infinite craft which I can tell can be a timesink.

Before I started this mum went to bed and made some comment about the washer, after not saying anything for days and I’m just? Why was she surprised I’ve not done it? She’s not out and out said to me which one she wants (she put one in the basket, but apparently it’s not the one with the right easy payments) so why is she surprised I’ve not just done one? If I had she’d only complain I’d done it without talking to her so it’s a complete lose/lose, ugh.

Also I’m kinda worried about Midna, she’s switched from being cuddly and always around to hiding away again and I dunno why. I hope it’s just cause she’s found a new comfy spot but.

Anyway ending this post with some film thoughts: Uncharted, Moonfall and Ring (so kinda spoilers for each?)

First is Uncharted. I’d heard Thanksgiving was coming to Netflix in America so I checked if it was coming here too. I couldn’t see anything about it when I looked (I know different regions get different things) but I did see Uncharted was there. Since I had a gap between Masked Singer and Streamer Awards I decided to put it on.

Going in I didn’t have any real expectations. I know it’s inspired by a game, but it’s one I’ve never played myself. I think it was mostly fun and for the most part I liked it. I always do like these action adventure type films that are like Indiana Jones and I guess the closest to this would be National Treasure? It felt like a similar vibe.

I loved the set piece towards the end of the flying ships, even though there was a suspension of disbelief there (there’s just a convenient hole in the cave big enough for them? And no one noticed?). If there was one thing I didn’t like it’s how the one villainess just turned on her boss suddenly, like what was the deal with that? (And the backstabbing in general was a little crazy) though I did like how the one tunnel they had to go through ended up not in a mysterious place, but a random disco! Cause that’s one thing that puzzles me about films with secret tunnels in big cities in these films, that they are somehow undisturbed.

Second film was Moonfall. It was on channel 4 Saturday, but the timing was wrong so I put it on the player. Moonfall is a disaster film, where the moon has suddenly started to change orbit and is coming crashing down on us. Again, I had no idea what to expect going in, but I figured it’d be worth a watch.

It’s a kind of strange film. I think it takes itself too seriously at times while at others it’s kinda goofy. I mean that last third of the film, with the reveal of what’s going on and why? That definitely feels like it comes out of nowhere and is very goofy. And of course the us military has a plan! Fire nukes at the moon! But only when it’s so close that the gravity is sucking the air away and doing damage and the nukes would kill everything!

Honestly it’s one of those films that I’m like ‘what did I just watch?’ (Although not as much as I did when I watched the film Piercing last week). I mean it was entertaining enough, although ridiculous (and hey humanity is probably mostly dead!) but I probably wouldn’t watch it again. (Whereas I probably would watch Uncharted again if it was on tv or something)

Lastly there’s Ring! I wanted to start watching the boxset I got last week since to check the discs (though they seem fine). Unlike the other two I have seen Ring before, albeit not for a long time. In fact it’s been too long since I’ve watched any Asian horror and, since this was the first one I ever watched, it was to go back to it.

And damn it’s so fucking great. There’s a good reason why this is the first J-horror most people see, as well as the fact it got an American adaption (which although I’ve not seen it for awhile, I’ve enjoyed to). As I watched it tonight, I realised just how quiet it was music wise. Most of the time there’s not any music at all and when there is it gives it an eerie vibe to the whole thing. The whole thing is so atmospheric and it’s just so eerie and spooky.

And honestly that scene toward the end is just so iconic.

I’m definitely looking forward to watching the other films soon, as well as the special features on the discs. There’s Ring 2, Ring 0 and also Spiral as well, so it’ll be interesting to watch and see how different that is from Ring 2. (I might also get The Ring Virus down, if I can find itt) I’m so glad I spotted the boxset and went back for it.

I very much enjoyed Uncharted :) And Moonfall was an odd one, not one I'd rewatch, but it had its moments. The death of the (step?)father annoyed me most; why couldn't he share the oxygen with the kid, why'd he give the kid it and lay down to die?! As you say, the whole "why didn't we do this sooner" was a bit out there.
