Happy new year! Here’s hoping that 2024 is better than last year, but who knows? I hope everyone had a good new years night.

This will probably be the first of two posts today (three if fic inspiration goes well) with the other being todays snowflake challenge (which at time of starting this isn’t live yet).

The past week has felt very odd, but then the week between Christmas and new year always is isn’t it? I’ve not done too much during it. I did a bit of gaming but not as much as I hoped and it was mostly spent watching whatever random stuff was on tv. (Well bar Thursday when my eyes decided to ache really badly which was annoying).

The weekend started pretty well with Shoto posting this vid. He was doing a mini subathon and one of the goals was to crush a watermelon with his thighs which is what the vid is (it’s so impressive, though kinda nsfw causa the noises he’s making). It makes me wish I was a watermelon. Though he mentioned on stream the other day that the vid makes his thighs look smaller than they are which ?? (Just do a vid of someone’s head there then or something)

Anyway, Saturday I was waiting for the sorry boys merch, the book club tee and poster, to arrive but of course they got delivered to the wrong house so I had to pick them up. My Xbox uk coin was there too so at least I got that, but ugh! It’s so annoying stuff gets sent there when they should know better.

(Also annoyances, I missed out on the square one magazine with set it off and as it is cause I hesitated and I also lost out on a Amazon prime video credit that I forgot I had but expired before I decided to use it)

I did manage to finish one goal on Saturday, which was to finish the Poirot eps with Curtain. It’s such a sad one to end on really, but it was nice to see him and Hastings together one last time.

That night The Empty Man was on film 4 so I was able to see it fully which was good. I liked it, but I’m not going to say much about it because it feels like a film best to see going in blind. What I will say is that there’s about three or four concepts/ideas in it that could easily have worked as films on their own and yet they manage to work together. One of those parts made me think of Ringu/The Ring and now I’m wondering if there’s any other ‘investigation’ type horror like that that I’ve not seen.

Anyway! Yesterday I watched the new adaption of The Famous Five and I thought it was pretty good. I remember reading the books as a kid (I have them somewhere) but it’s been so long that I forgot the details so was essentially going in blind. But I thought it was really good and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with the others. They said one is coming but not when. The only thing that felt like an odd choice was the music, which felt a little out of place being electronicy (especially since it’s set in the 40’s) and the titles were similarly odd but other than that.

The rest of yesterday wasn’t too exciting, I did some dead by daylight, watched some of Shoto’s stream, then watched the New Year’s Eve concerts. (Why is Charlie from Busted so hot again? He was on Masked Singer too and looks so damn good) and then I watched Marry Me which I didn’t expect to get into but I did.

I then had some booze during new year which we shared between us but damn did it fuck me up. It made me a bit dizzy and headache and when I tried to sleep I was just hit by a wave of depression which, ugh. Great way to start the year huh?

Now I’m watching the new year’s concert on the iplayer then will watch Moana and other stuff. I hope to fic, do the snowflake challenge and maybe start the other Lego set I got (I know it’s been a week and it’s still not started).

I hope to use this week to also do a few things. (I was hoping of doing Baldur’s Gate 3 but apparently the Xbox save but isn’t sorted so it’s best not to) So this week I wanna game (back in Jedi Survivor, Super Mario Wonder and Tears Of The Kingdom once the Dead By Daylight event is done), watch some stuff (I wanna finally watch interview with a vampire, and the dungeons and dragons movie again) and work on fic. But we’ll see. And I wanna get Jago’s merch, please don’t sell out insanely quick despite it being limited (damnit Jago!)

Another remake of The Famous Five? I was obsessed with those books when I was a wee llama, and absolutely ADORED the 1995 adaptation of it (still have a crush on Jemima Rooper from it LOL)

investigation recs: searching, missing (neither are horror per se but damn are they good), the den, shutter (probably more what you’re looking for because it’s paranormal, and PLEASE watch the thai original), one missed call (again Japanese original only), candyman (not sure it quite fits but i have to rec black horror sorry), it (both the original and remake are good in this case), i guess the nightmare on elm street franchise would count?, us

the American version of omc is extremely goofy, then again I went into it already knowing the reveal from the original but god it was so good in the original idk the Asian versions are so much more subtle and I prefer that (however I do actually prefer the american version of the ring, the atmosphere is UNMATCHED they killed that one. I even liked the unpopular sequel and the weird reboot where the Big Bang theory guy is making internet videos or whatever)

I haven’t watched much Asian horror lately either, I watched some extreme Japanese stuff (still looking for genki out of morbid curiosity) but I have a few issues with Japanese gore lmaooo

I used to love reading the Famous Five books, my nanna used to take me to Newcastle to buy a new one every Christmas.

I ended up watching Moana yesterday, it was the first time I'd seen it and it was fun.

Happy New Year to you too!

I didn't even know there were any adaptions of the Famous Five but then I probably haven't thought of those books in something like forty-five years :-D Electronic music for a 40s setting sounds very odd.

That's really not a nice way to start the new year but hopefully it means you've used up your share of feeling bad for quite a while *keeps fingers crossed*
