It’s written in the stars
Aug. 24th, 2023 10:18 amSo you know how I said in the last post that an engineer had come and it seemed the net might finally be sorted? Well, guess what happened?
And when did it decide to act up? Just as the Gamescom opening night stream started. So it kept cutting out repeatedly through the stream so I kept missing stuff which was so annoying and frustrating. However it wasn’t too exciting?
Here’s some basic bullet points from it (along with stuff I’ve gathered from the Xbox coverage too)
*Faefarm looks like it has a lot of cute things
*I’m super excited about Starfield, it looks so cool! I’m hoping to get Zelda finished before it but…. It’s unlikely
*Little Nightmares 3! I’m sure Ranboo will stream it
*Age Of Empires IV got added to Gamepass out of nowhere! I played the tutorial quests last night and I’m not sure exactly how different it is to 2 yet)
*Rebel Moon looks like it’ll be cool, but the net fucked up twice during the coverage
*Crimson desert has plus points for being able to pet dogs and hold cats though it looks a bit… busy. And floating islands?
*The new sonic is coming out in October (what is with things and October? There’s like half a dozen games coming out then??) and sonic frontiers is getting an update soon
No doubt I have missed something super obvious. I’m gonna be watching the Xbox coverage and I’m especially excited about Still Wakes The Deep getting something tomorrow.
Because of the net issues I didn’t do much after the opening night stream. I watched some of the Pokémon stream but because of its random nature I lost interest after the first three (especially when the third ep was the second part of a two parter and they didn’t play the first).
I watched the special feature on the Babylon 5 disc and it was so touching. The creator said he gathered all the surviving actors and said that if any of them were uncomfortable with actors who had passed being recast then they wouldn’t go ahead with it. I just thought that was really sweet and everyone did such a good job.
Then yesterday was the Ahsoka premier and I was so worried that the net would act up during it, especially since it did beforehand. Thankfully it kept stable the whole almost two hours.
A few thoughts under the cut, mostly bullet points again
First off, it might just be my fav of the live action shows so far. Of course I could be speaking too soon and it could mess up but…
*The opening was such a strong one, introducing Baylan and his new apprentice as genuine threats
*There’s so many cool new ships shown already! And Home One!!!
*The first scene with Ahsoka had Indiana Jones vibes
*The assassin droids are cool
*Lothal! And more people from rebels!
*Sabine’s Loth Cat is so cute and it makes me even more glad I got that one from Disney (I’m taking it down with me after this post) I hope Sabine has someone to look after them as they adventure
*Huyang, I love him!
*I love the Maul vibes of Shin’s probe droid
*The fight with Sabine was cool, even though the trailers meant he being stabbed wasn’t gonna stick
*Corellia! Seeing it was so cool, and of course there’s corrupt people
*Chopper ahh!
*the end titles are so pretty
*The first ep being dedicated to Baylan’s actor, Ray was so touching
Again I’m sure I’m missing something but here’s a few other things that require longer thoughts.
They did a good job reintroducing everyone, which is good because not everyone has seen Rebels and would know who people are. I’m sure that was a very hard thing to accomplish.
Sabine being Ashoka’s apprentice still doesn’t quite sit right. She never seemed to have shown force abilities in Rebels and even Huyang comments she’s lacking so why did Ahsoka train her? It’s such an odd thing and I hope we get some sort of flashback or explanation.
The main thing that puzzles me though is this. The bad guys are looking for Thrawn which makes sense. What’s puzzling to me is why they’re so sure that an ancient map will lead to where he is. I’m hoping that’s explained a bit, because it seems odd. I wouldn’t be surprised if turns out that this map doesn’t lead to Thrawn at all, that Morgan is either lying that it does or genuinely thinks it does and is being manipulated somehow.
But despite those things I give those eps a solid 9/10 and I’m excited for next week to see what else happens. I hope we see the Ghost.
There’s no real plans today other than the Xbox stream. I managed to finish Fortnite’s bonus battle pass stuff yesterday and start the new fall guys fame pass (they changed the bonus rewards to mostly titles which is good). I’m hoping to work more on fic and watch Saw 3 tonight, and maybe do Zelda too. (I’m going through the stable quests for Penn before heading to the Gerudo).
