April monthly roundup time! Where has the time gone? Again there’s some things I’ve not done. I’m beginning to thing having books as a section was extremely optimistic. I meant to do some podcast listening (I’m so behind and added some interesting ones I heard of too) but I’ve just not got anywhere. I had hoped to fic some but between getting hit by block, celebration and sickness I’ve been unable to which sucks. I’m hoping to this week.
I also added cinema films as I saw two in April and will be seeing at least one thing in the cinema a month for the next two months so that’ll stay awhile.

The rest of mom’s birthday went pretty good. We watched three films, Fools Gold (which I mentioned in the last post and was pretty fun), Six Days Seven Nights (which was pretty good, if only to see Harrison Ford’s chest) and Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2 (which is fun and feels inducing, and this time I realised Grandmaster appeared in the end credits which is so strange).
The cake ended up being nicer than I expected, though we didn’t eat much because we used a domino’s voucher to get pizza.
I did do some more cult of the lamb and I beat the silk cradle bishop woo! Now I don’t have to do more runs there for awhile because eww. So now there’s a thing with the one who waits but I’ve not tried it yet.
The qsmp was feels inducing thanks to Wilbur that night, (why does he have to go and leave sweet tallulah?) and then the eggs being missing yesterday. They did return after the new people arrived though the poor things did seem traumatised which is just more feels inducing.
Yesterday we watched Poirot and I didn’t do some more on Pokémon, beating the last gym and doing a team star base (so only one is left). Both were a bit easy because my pokemon are, somehow, more than 10 levels stronger than the opponents. So it does look like I can finish the game soon if I just… do it.
No sign of the las nevadas package still, I’ve tried chasing it up but no luck. The USPS tracking says it’s in the uk and when I got a reply they said it was handed to the Royal Mail. So I checked Royal Mail to see if it shown on their tracking and it says it’s in transit from America still so I’m at a loss. I might try chasing it up with them this week.
This week I’m hoping to do more on pokemon (and some other gaming), watching the time monster, fic and then it’s Star Wars day and free comic book day. And I wanna get some other things sorted. (That is unless my brain turns into a scribble again.)
Lastly some thoughts on Willy’s Wonderland which I watched on Shudder late last night (since I actually wanted to get a shudder thing on this months round up)
so I’d been curious about this film for awhile (and almost picked it up at one point) so when I saw shudder got it, I added it to my list. It took a month to actually get around to watching it causa various things.
So I decided if the qsmp event finished early enough I’d watch it last night.
For those that don’t know anything about it, it’s essentially a film version of Five Nights At Freddie’s (which I’ve never played myself but I have seen people play the newest one which looks so pretty). So a main draw is that the closest to a film version of that (until the actual adaption comes) but there’s also Nicolas Cage as the main guy who beats the animatronics up.
It made me wonder if animatronic’s were actually a thing in restaurants which led me to find chuck e cheese is a thing and they look terrifying! How could anyone think they’re ok for kids is… baffling.
But anyway, the film itself. It wasn’t quite as good as I was hoping it to be (maybe it was in part because I was watching so late) but it was still fun although at times baffling. Nicolas Cage’s character is unarmed (only being called The Janitor in the credits) and he doesn’t say a single word during the whole thing. If you wanna see him being kinda broody and strange while beating up animatronics then this is the thing for you! (It certainly delivers on that!)
I couldn’t help but thinking during the exposition why no one else tried to actually… destroy the animatronics before he did. Once they knew that they had become evil and possessed the location just became abandoned instead of making any attempt to destroy them. (Hey the town even makes a pact with them to feed them strangers before just burning the place to the ground! Yeah a contract that was going to demolish it ended up dead but that shouldn’t have stopped the townsfolk just setting the place ablaze)
And also the teens were stupid even by horror movie standards (it’s a shame only one gets a hint of personality). Yeah they have the sense to try and burn the place down because of what’s going on but they go in with no clue or weapons. But worse than that is the pair of teens that break off from the group and have sex. In the building with killer animatronics. In the room where murders and a satanic ritual happened and they KNEW that’s where it happened! Like, how stupid do you have to be?? Usually teens that do so stuff like that have the valid excuse of ignorance but they did it fully knowing what that place was.
It’s so baffling.
But anyway, now I’m gonna finish up the food shop and then I dunno cause it’s bank holiday and everything’s a bit weird.

Date: 2023-05-02 03:23 am (UTC)I didn't realize you didn't have Chuck E Cheese type restaurants/arcades over there, but now I'm thinking about it, it shouldn't surprise me. America has a lot of WEIRD shit that we just accept as normal because we grew up with it. I spent many a birthday at places like that. The pizza had a very particular toasted cardboard consistency that I have only seen replicated in 1980s public school cafeterias. The animatronic characters weren't the appeal though: it was the GAMES. Specifically, learning how to smack the ticket dispenser in just the right spot so it would give you extra tickets and you could wipe out the prizes in the booth on your way out. I never quite got the hang of it, but I saw it done expertly by a few classmates.

Date: 2023-05-02 09:41 am (UTC)I’d heard of Chuck E Cheese before, but I’d just assumed it was some kind of themed restaurant not that it had animatronics (and an arcade sounds pretty cool!). We don’t have anything like that, I mean we have arcades but they tend to be confined to seaside places. Oh that’s so strange!ni mean I never went to birthday parties myself as a kid (neither invited or had any) but that all sounds so fun and random.

Date: 2023-05-02 04:38 pm (UTC)Yeah, they have (had?) midway type games and stuff, like a little indoor carnival. Quick search confirms there is still one operating in my city. How have you never been to a birthday party? Even as part of a class? Is that also an American thing?

Date: 2023-05-05 07:06 pm (UTC)Interesting! There is a lot of Americana that I keep learning is specific to us, and it always surprises me where those lines are.

Date: 2023-05-02 01:52 pm (UTC)One thing that doing the Royal Mail surveys again is I know that the whole service is pretty messed up timewise. Nothing seems to arrive in time, and yet they continue to hold tight to the contract.

Date: 2023-05-05 04:21 pm (UTC)Oh no it’s annoying! I finally got a reply the other day but it was unhelpful and seemed to imply it was lost. Then today I refreshed the tracking and it’s been hit by a customs charge😒
