shadowhive: (Captain Sidon Ithano)

Today is feeling like a low energy day which is annoying, I think it might be because of the stress of the fall yesterday or the general blehness.

It’s been announced that The Rig is gonna be getting a season 2! I’d hoped it would, so I’m really glad that the ending’s not left unresolved, from the announcement we’ll definitely see where they end up going and that the situation ends up going more global.

Thoughts now on Picard, so thoughts under the cut.

So today’s ep had two threads to it so I’ll look at each in turn.

First is Raffi’s plot, where she is naturally frustrated by her failure to stop the attack with the portal weapon from last week. Understandable she wants to continue the investigation, especially when reports blame someone who she believes is the wrong person. Her handler tells her to stand down but she just decides to continue to carry on regardless.

I suspect her handler told her to disengage because another lead had been found elsewhere. So why not just tell her that? Why not give her something else to follow?

Instead she goes with her gut, coming off as crazy to her ex husband (why is he able to get her in contact with a gangster like Sneed?) before confronting Sneed. It gets her nowhere (and sadly means she has to use drugs) but at least she finds out her instincts was right. Then her handler shows up to rescue her, revealing him to be Worf (as some people suspected!). In the process he decapitates Sneed which was a cool move but further confirms to me there’s another lead that’s been found.

Meanwhile most of the story is taken up with the other thread, Crusher’s son. There’s a lot of questions thrown out in here about him, including if he’s actually her son (because it seems he’s a con man with many alias and a criminal record) and who his father is. The last answer is seemingly answered at the end that he’s Picard’s. But that just raises further questions, like why has Crusher kept him a secret from Picard for all this time? It seems very… odd.

Whoever he is the captain of the ship wants him, apparently because he’s a wanted criminal. However her ship is insanely overpowered for such a thing. So what is she really after him for? (And is she after him for herself or for someone else) there’s definitely more to what’s going on there.

(With an op ship like that I suspect it’s connected to the portal weapon from Raffi’s thread too)

Then there’s Captain Shaw who is still a jerk but at least this time he is a jerk with a point. He’s rightfully worried about risking his ship and crew, especially this far from help and in an area of space outside their jurisdiction. His choices (and inaction) aren’t wrong and he is right to almost hand over Jack at the end. (To the point where Picard taking over and telling them no comes off as stupid and foolhardy)

I guess they’ll manage to evade the op ship and escape next week but I’m guessing it’ll take most of the ep to do so.

Ooh, I started The Rig, and it was good! This is incentive for me to go back and finish it up.

I may still be put out that Santi left Picard so haven't watched any of the new eps yet. I'll get to them eventually I'm sure.
