At the bottom of the sea
Oct. 25th, 2022 08:32 pmSo today there was a new Pokémon reveal which ended up being a new ghost pup and they’re so cute! I love them already and hope to get them on my team.
There’s a new Doctor Who logo, reminiscent of the old who one. It’s also coming to Disney+ (at least outside the uk) which makes me wonder if the possibility of spin offs has increased.I hope so, the potential is definitely there.
There was a trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy’s holiday special tonight.I dunno why, but I was kinda expecting it to be animated, but it’s not. Instead it’s live action, with everyone returning and it’s obviously Christmassy. It’s coming out in one month and looks pretty fun.
Main thing about this post (because I’m procrastinating) is about Wreck, which thoughts under the cut (obviously spoilery, but not too much).
So Wreck is a show that’s on BBC 3 (and iplayer) that’s set on a cruise ship. It’s original premise is that the ship’s mascot, called quacky, is going around killing people and it was pretty much billed as being a slasher.
The thing is it ended up not being that.
First off, despite being called Wreck (and the subject line), there wasn’t actually a wreck and the ship was still floating at the end.
While the show was billed as a slasher, it was also billed as a mystery. A guy joined this ship in search of his missing sister and that was more successfully done than the actual slasher part as it managed to sustain itself over the six eps. The six eps themselves could be divided into 3 parts.
The first two were more on the slasher part, the opening has the mascot chase main guys sister and she goes over the side of the ship. At the end of the first ep they kill her ex, then drag them off (with the body being found in the second ep)
The second part (3 and 4) seemed a bit more meandering, with a misdirection and then a drug storyline which kinda felt unnecessary.
The last parts (5 and 6) go in another direction altogether, entering very much Hostel territory. (And ending in not one, but two sequel hooks, which makes a second series which is rumoured more likely)
In a way… I’m kinda disappointed that the slasher side, with Quacky, kinda fizzled out especially with how much it was billed as the main thing. However the hostel style end that we got was actually pretty good and unexpected.
Another good thing? There was a lot of queer characters in this. Of the main characters, 4 of them are queer, with more among the side characters. That’s definitely a win and definitely something we need more of (not just in horror films but in general!).
Like I said it ends with a definite direction that series 2 can go (which is in development already) so I’m definitely curious how it goes. It could go in a few different directions, so I’m curious which way it will go.
