End of year meme

Todays ended up being pretty lazy which is good. I finally watched Single All The Way, which was pretty entertaining and sweet so I enjoyed it.

And my Doctor Who season 17 boxset came so I’m gonna watch it… sometime. I dunno when. I usually do it Tuesdays but who knows? (I also need to watch The Hills Have Eyes which I impulse bought…. And the stuff I have keyed up to watch)

I hope everyone has a safe week for the holidays. I’ve got wrapping to do tomorrow and then we’ve got food to pick up on Christmas Eve (at 7:30 which is a ridiculous hour) and we might be getting veg Wednesday but I dunno.

I’ve seen this thing on a few posts so…

1. Your main fandom this year?

Hmmm it’s hard to say.

2. Your favorite film watched this year?

If we’re going by films at the cinema, it’s Shang-Chi… but that’s the only film I’ve seen at the cinema so… but it was fun, and Morris is so cute.

If we’re going by blu ray, Sonic the hedgehog, because it was fun and better than I expected

If we’re going by Netflix, Fear Street or Single All The Way, which are very different films.


3. Your favorite book read this year?

Lesser Known Monsters: The Bone Gate
Because there always needs to be more queer horror stories and this was awesome and funny and sad.

Star Wars High Republic Into The Dark
Because who doesn’t love a spooky space station.

I also have a pile of other books to read, including a load of high republic ones.

4. Your favorite TV show of the year?

I’ve started to watch Fringe on pick tv which is definitely one of my new favs. I’m currently on season 4 now, though it’s on a break for Christmas.

For streaming shows… possibly Loki? It’s the MCU shows I’ve enjoyed the most I think.

And on tv, as always, Taskmaster because it’s hilarious.

I’m sure I’m missing something obvious though.

5. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

In tv terms, Fringe like I mentioned above. I saw an ad for it while watching something on pick (probably enterprise) and I’d heard good things so I figured I should check it out. It’s got a very X-Files vibe to it, especially early on.

Band wise, possible Waterparks. I’d not really heard them before, though I’d seen pictures and they’re actually so good. (Shame about the fan base though)

Also music wise is Natewantstobattle who does some awesome songs (and is pretty cute too) and CG5 doing some funny songs too.

I’d also add the DreamSMP even though I’ve only seen the recent lore streams. But Chai got me into the streamers beforehand and now I’ve fixations with Dream and Sapnap and Quackity and George and Wilbur.

I feel, again, I’m missing an obvious one too.

6. Your biggest fandom disappointment?

Recently? Finding out the the developer behind Star Wars Eclipse is full of awe full people which is disappointing on so many levels. And it feels like every time I see something about them there’s an even worse thing.

Getting into Waterparks in a big way… only to find out that the fans are trash.

Another one came to mind, but its honestly gone now which is annoying.

7. Your TV boyfriend of the year?

I’m not sure, maybe Peter from Fringe?

8. Your TV girlfriend of the year?

Hmm I actually can’t think of one,

9. Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Finding out that Jay was back doing music again and then the clip of him being announced to join Kill The Lights

The recent streams of Quackity in the uk, the ones with Wilbur and George are both different kinds of chaos.

10. The most missed of your old fandoms?

Most are dormant

I do miss bandom/MCR though, despite how truly terrible it’s become and how many people I’ve lost because of it.

11. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I’m not sure, does anyone have any suggestions?

I forgot to add in the last post that snowflake challenge is starting in a few weeks so…

Oh, good meme *yoinks*. Although I'm not sure if I can remember what happened this year as opposed to last year...

On the fandoms front, DC and BTS are both active fandoms with some verrrrrrrrrrrry good fic to be found. I enjoyed Voltron a lot, for all it was trashy, and it's still relatively active in terms of fic and things (and, again, some very good fic to be found). Castlevania was a work of art - I think the fandom is pretty small/quiet but there is much potential for slashy fun between Trevor and Alucard. And, obviously, I am currently preoccupied by small Korean dancing boys.

I mean, there is always wank. Fandom purists get into every corner, and there is no fandom in existence (other than maybe teeny, tiny ones) that doesn't have shipping wank, but I avoid it by the expediant of going on Tumblr never, and Twitter slightly less than that, so I can't tell you how good/bad it is.

But then, I think maybe you knew about all of those from me already :)

I know right? I was having that trouble too

I keep meaning to listen to BTS more, cause I’ve like what I’ve heard. I’m kinda on the outskirts of the D.C. fandom. I’ve watched the shows, but I’m way behind so I’ve kept out of fics and such to avoid spoilers (but I love Cisco so many)

Voltron I’ve heard of but not seen though I’ve heard the fandom is chaos. I think I watched the first ep of Castlevania but I’m not sure (and it was ages ago if I did). (I’ve got a few Netflix shows I’ve meant to watch and failed)

I think fandom nonsense has put me off interacting too much sadly which is annoying. I hardly go on tumblr, cept to look for pics and such sometimes. Twitter I’m on all the time but I tend to avoid things now (I tend to be more unhinged in my private one now)

I occasionally lurk certain blogs on tumblr for the pretties, but not often. I basically never go on twitter unless someone links me to a specific tweet. Which means I rarely know what's going on but, like, that's a good thing in some regards - at best I tend to be peripherally aware of fandom wank.

Season 17 is so much fun! Well, maybe not Destiny of the Daleks, that one's pretty dreary, except for Romana. I thoroughly enjoy the rest of it though, even Creature of the Pit and Horns of Nimon :-) And City of Death is just amazing.

Honestly I can’t remember much about the eps in the season… apart from a city of death which is amazing, so I’m looking forward to seeing them again. I do love seeing the eps in context with the boxsets. This boxset also includes Shada too which was a surprise!

Snowflake is something that happens every January and every other day there will be a challenge on for it. Usually it’s about make a post in your own space about something, an intro post or something (I’m terrible at explaining these things)
