Hidden Marks
Pairing: Geoff Wigington/Jawn Rocha, Awsten Knight/Otto Wood
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Soulmates
Notes: For Fade’s AU August thing, it’s also inspired by an ask I saw on notwxrriors tumblr. (I really need a solo Geoff or Jawn icon)
Prompt: AU August 1: Soulmates
Jawn thought that soulmarks were a ridiculous concept. On paper it was great. Everyone had a mark on their bodies that would glow when you were in the presence of your soulmate, the person you were meant to be with. In principle it was a great idea, in practice it wasn’t. For everyone that had a mark that was easy to see, like on their arm, their was someone with one in a much more awkward place. How were those people meant to know they were with their soulmate if they couldn’t even see their mark?
Jawn was, unfortunately, one of the latter. His mark was behind his ear, which was such a ridiculous place he’d at first been sure he didn’t have one at all. It was only when his best friend Awsten did a through inspection of his body did they find it, which had lead to much laughter and groaning.
Speaking of Awsten…
The boy was sitting across from him in the coffee shop where he’d decided they should meet up, because he had exciting news, something he couldn’t share over phone or text. He certainly seemed to be in a good mood, all smiles as he sipped his hot chocolate which was surely still too warm.
“So what’s this big news of yours?” Jawn asked with a raised eyebrow, leaning forward in his seat.
“Ok, so, you know how we got a new drummer a few months back.” Jawn nodded, he’d met him a few times and he seemed like a nice guy, if a little awkward at times. “Well before band practice the other day he fell into some poison ivy.” Jawn raised an eyebrow, wondering how he’s managed that, but Awsten was already waving his hands dismissively because that clearly wasn’t the important part of the story. “So when he got to band practice he asked us to check him over and he took his top off and…” Awsten’s eyes practically sparkled. “He’s got my soulmark.” He grinned, shifting a hand to place it against his side. “Right here, so there’s no way I could have seen it beforehand, but he was so surprised to see it glowing.” He giggled and shook his head. “He was worried, thought it was some reaction to the ivy until I pushed my sleeve up and…”
Jawn rolled his eyes but smiled. They sounded like they were made for each other, two dumbasses together. “I’m assuming you asked him out on the spot.”
“Nah, he’s a gentleman. He asked me out. Once he was checked out of course.” He looked dreamy, smiling. “He’s a good kisser.”
Jawn was glad for him, he really was, but he couldn’t help the slight spark of jealousy. “Ok, ok, you don’t need to go into all the gory details.” Awsten grinned and slapped him on the arm, before drinking some more.

Awsten insisted that Jawn come to the next band practice, both to check out the new songs and to see him with his new boyfriend. They spent the whole time making heart eyes at each other and Jawn was sure if Otto wasn’t behind his drum kit that Awsten would be all over him.
Geoff clearly seemed amused by their antics, which Jawn counted as another good point in his favour. Geoff was a great guy, sweet and nerdy and an awesome guitar player. Plus he could put up with Awsten’s nonsense, which not many people could.
Jawn couldn’t resist the urge to take some pictures of them practicing, which he knew Awsten wouldn’t mind and he had to admit through the five song mini set they did sound pretty great. Sure with just him watching it didn’t capture the energy of a live show, but it was still fun.
After the set was finished Otto tucked his sticks in his back pocket then got up from behind the kit, wrapping an arm around Awsten’s shoulder as they came over to him. “Hey man, what did you think?” He asked, running his other hand through his shoulder length curls.
“You guys sounded amazing, I know you’re gonna make it big someday.” He returned the smile and Awsten grinned, though he wasn’t sure if it was what he said or just because he was with his new boyfriend.
“Thanks man, I’m glad you think so.” He grinned just like Awsten did before kissing his cheek and ruff lying his dyed blue hair. “Even if we don’t end up touring the world this band is still the best thing that ever happened to me.” Awsten was giving him that heart eyed look again and Jawn couldn’t help but smile fondly.
“Yeah, I’m happy for you guys.” Jawn made a mental note to ask him exactly how he’d ended up in poison ivy sometime.
“Yeah.” Otto was grinning brightly at that, turning to meet Awsten’s gaze, kissing his neck. “I hope you’ll be able to find your soulmate too sometime.”
Jawn smiled and shrugged a little. “I dunno. It’s not as if I’d be able to tell if I did.” He often wondered if he’d already met his soulmate, but because of the position of his mark he had no way of knowing. He was pretty sure he was going to be resigned that he was never going to find them. It wouldn’t mean that he was going to be alone, not necessarily. People could, and did, form relationships when they weren’t soulmates, it was just… not as intense.
“Oh?” Otto looked at him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. “Is it in a strange place?”
“Yeah!” Awsten grinned at that, clearly remembering when he’d found it. “It’s in the absolute worst place, look.” He reached over and brushed Jawn’s hair back, his fingers taking a hold of JawnKs ear so he could show Otto. Jawn felt himself flush, embarrassed and he reached up to slap his hand away. Awsten, however, had a look of concentration. “Huh.”
Otto looked over at the mark. “Is it always that colour?”
“What are you guys talking about? It’s a just a little black x.” Jawn shoved Awsten’s hand away, the attention making his cheeks flush more. Awsten and Otto gave each other a look, which made him self conscious. “What is it? Don’t tell me I’ve got a rash or something.” He wasn’t sure exactly how he’d get anything like that, but the way they were acting…
“Dude, it’s yellow and it’s glowing!” Awsten was grinning now, his eyes wide. “That means your soulmate is somewhere near!”
Jawn’s cheeks flushed, though his heart was pounding in excitement. They had to be close, their performance space was Awsten’s basement so they had to be nearby. Maybe someone was outside?
“What’s going on?” Geoff asked as he came over, soda bottle in hand as he looked over them.
“Jawn’s soulmate is near!” Awsten grinned excitedly, bounding over to the nearby window to see if anyone was outside.
“Dude that’s great, let’s go find them!” Geoff smiled, taking a swig from his bottle as Jawn turned to join Awsten at the window.
“Wait.” Jawn stopped, turning to look at Otto, who was looking between him and Geoff. “I think we might be missing something obvious here.” His focus settled on Geoff. “Where’s your mark?”
Geoff looked at him incredulously, then his cheeks flushed. “It’s on my hip, but I think I’d know if my soulmate was one of my best friends.”
“Not if neither of you could see your marks.” Otto shook his head, keeping his focus on Geoff. “Take your pants off.”
“What?”
By now Awsten had left his position at the window and came back to them. “There’s no one out there. So it must be you, unless they’re being really sneaky.” His eyes glittered mischievously. “So take them off Geoff.”
“Or at least pull them down.” Otto added quickly.
Geoff looked between them and he sighed, knowing he wouldn’t win against them. Jawn shot him an apologetic look, though his heart was still pounding. What if it was him and he’d been right there under his nose the whole time? Geoff reached down, his fingers undoing the button and zipper of his fly before pushing his pants and boxers down, just enough to show off his hip. And his mark.
Which was glowing.
“Dude!” Awsten grinned, clapping his hands together in excitement and Geoff looked down, surprise clear on his face at the sight of it.
“I…” Geoff kept his gaze on hit for a few moments, before he looked over at Jawn, their eyes meeting. Jawn felt overwhelmed by this revelation and he was sure Geoff did too by the expression on his face.
“Go on, kiss the boy.” Awsten said insistently, one hand on the small of Jawn’s back, pushing by him towards Geoff.
Jawn didn’t need much encouragement, crossing the space between them in a few strides. He gave Geoff a look, silently asking him if this was ok, but it was Geoff that closed the short distance between them, their lips meeting.
He’d kissed people before, including Awsten but this was different. It was a cliche, but it felt like there were fireworks going off in his head, and it felt right. Especially when his lips parted and his tongue slipped into Geoff’s mouth. He tasted like the soda he’s been drinking, but also of something else, something he couldn’t quite place. His eyes lidded as he enjoyed the kiss, wrapping his arms around him and holding him flush against him. Geoff’s arms did the same, sliding around his waist and holding on, not wanting to let go.
They only parted when it became obvious they needed air and they painted breathlessly against each other. “Wow…” Jawn whispered, voice soft.
“Yeah…” Geoff was smiling broadly, his eyes sparkling and for a few moments it felt like they were the only people in the world.
“Should we leave you too alone?” Awsten’s voice broke the moment and Jawn turned slightly to look at his friend, who was grinning like an idiot.
“I think we should.” Otto took ahold of Awsten’s hand, tugging him towards the stairs and Jawn had never been more grateful for someone than he had in his life.
“There’s lube in the top drawer of my bedside table!” He called out before he was pulled out of the basement and Jawn felt his cheeks flush even more.
“I’m sorry about that.” Jawn whispered, as Geoff took a gentle hold of his chin, turning his head back towards him.
“It’s ok, I’ve gotten used to Awsten being… well, Awsten.” He smiled, resting his forehead against Jawn’s. “But enough about him.” He planted his lips on his again, and Jawn was content to get lost in his kiss and his arms again.
