You Might Be The Killer
Oct. 3rd, 2019 12:15 amSo I know I said I was gonna use this as an excuse to watch my horror film back log, but already I’m rewatching a film. It’s cause as I turned on the Shudder app, You Might Be The Killer was playing on Shudder tv so I figured I may as well watch it from the start (plus like last night I was finishing a fic)
You Might Be The Killer is a film with a rather unique genesis. The idea comes from a twitter thread between the writers Sam Sykes and Chuck Wendig. In the thread Sam is a camp counsellor, who is contacting his friend about an entity that is murdering his fellow counsellors. As the conversation continues it becomes clear that the entity killing them is really Sam, being possessed by a mask.
The thread was super popular and it was really fun to watch. It got a lot of attention, enough that, sometime later they revealed that a movie would be based on it. You Might Be The Killer is the result. Instead of a text thread, the conversation between Sam and Chuck is done over the phone and there’s flashbacks showing the (quite bloody) killings.
It’s a fun, unique twist on the genre and there’s plenty of fun and funny moments within. (And it covers several tropes like the final girl, as well as having a nice ending which leaves a sequel possible.) all in all I do love it and it’s one of the better things I’ve seen in the app (perhaps the best)
