A fixed point in time
Jan. 3rd, 2019 02:02 pmYesterday I ended up doing a Killjoys fic because I got inspired. I mentioned in the notes for it that I ideas for three (so far). Ironically the one that’s going to be done last was the idea I came up with first.
The fic I was meant to work on after it was going to be the follow up to it. However,
akamine_chan left me a comment on the prompt post and my fic brain got inspired. So last night I started working on that. I suspect it might be done today or tomorrow but it depends on how things pan out.
Yesterday too, tv started to revert back to normal, with Stargate on at 6 and Supergirl on at 8. Supergirl ended up being a replay of the last one before Christmas, but it makes kinda sense since the one tonight will follow on for it so context will help. The series is almost over though and they’re gonna switch on Monday to Legends Of Tomorrow, which looks pretty good.
Last night, after doing some gaming on Assassins Creed, I decided to finally watch the Doctor Who eps I’ve meant to. I watched Utopia/The Sound Of The Drums/The Last Of The Time Lords on Netflix, because I was too lazy to grab the box set from upstairs. Annoyingly (and I didn’t realise till I was watching it) the Netflix version of Time Lords is a shorter version wtf? Ugh.
It’s been ages since I’ve seen any of 10’s episodes and it reminded me of how good he was, (and how the music was so awesome). I watched those eps since I was rewatching Torchwood and so it felt appropriate to watch them. Utopia is my favourite of the episodes, I just love Chantho (and feel bad she died still) and the slow build up to Yana’s reveal (and of course Jack being Jack). The other episodes are good too, though I still find the Year That Never Was jarring (though it makes sense the master would arm earth like that, giving what happened to earth a year later in Who). I do kinda wanna watch the next episode now, but I think I’ll just skip back to season two of Torchwood next.
After that I went to bed, fully intending to sleep. Instead I couldn’t, so I decided to read a fic I got recced on twitter last night, Set These Fires (Just For You) which is a nice in depth look into the relationship between Frank/Gerard/Mikey. The trouble is though, it is long and I didn’t realise that going into it. So I kept reading, expecting several times for the first chapter to end soon and yet it just.... kept going. As such I spent hours reading it over the middle of the night, only sleeping when my body crashed (and then resuming when I woke). I’m gonna save the second chapter to a later, better time and I’m going to work on finishing the rest of the bandom holidays fic before I read it.
I had meant, this morning, to put up the laptop and change around my icons. Basically to add ones of the rest of MCR (I have six of Ray, but only one each for Gerard, Mikey and Bob.) However, because of reading that I didn’t get chance to. Hopefully I will in the morning. I think clearing out those old icons will do me some good too.
Anyway, it’s day 3 of the snowflake challenge so...
Day 3
In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
This is an interesting question. I’m gonna try and include a few.
First is the music video for Na Na Na. This should come as no surprise really. It’s my favourite MCR video because of the asethic and the awesome world building that goes upon in the brief span of it. Plus they all look so damn good. I’ve not watched it on YouTube for awhile (I recently watched when I was playing Guitar Hero Love before the servers died) and it’s just, amazing.
I really wish that they’d done more than two videos with the Killjoys though (really they could have done videos for the whole album, especially Save Yourselfs and Destroya), it always felt like a missed opportunity. I still dunno why they never made action figures of the boys either. Thankfully it inspired immense creativity in the mcr fandom, in a way I have never seen for a music video before or since. This year will no doubt lead to a resurgence of fic based on it and I say bring it on!
Another music video I like is Motionless In white’s Necessary Evil for no real reason other than Chris is maddeningly attractive and has a guy chained to his throne and makes him like his boots.
I am bad at saving interviews, which sucks because so many interviews are awesome. I did type up one interview from Kerrang years ago (holy fuck it’s 10 years old now) I wish I’d done scans at the time too but ah well. here’s the link to the perviest interview Bullet For My Valentine ever did.
Speaking of Bullet, here is another rec of them their last album Gravity it came out last year, right at the time when I was feeling low and somehow managed to encapsulate just how I felt. Songs like Breathe Underwater and The Very Last Time are especially poignant although most of them are. (The only trouble is it’s a little too on the nose, so can a little hard for me to hear at times.)
I’ll end with a book rec, which is Star Wars. The novel Bloodline is the best of the new novels so far (though I suspect it’ll be unseated soon by Queen’s Shadow). Bloodline tells the story of Princess Leia shortly before the sequel trilogy. At this point she’s a senator in the new republic and she’s considering retiring to join Han. But of course things start going a turn. She does a bit of investigating, with a fellow senator (who I first hated but came to like), ends up being nominated for a position that she doesn’t really want and there’s some other revelations too. If you like Leia and haven’t read this book, you really should.
I could rec a few tv episodes too, but I’m not actually sure where I’d start. Heh,
I must say, I love the snowflake challenge so far. I already have two people added because of it (one from a surprising fandom that I didn’t expect to see, Taskmaster!) and got one tv Show rec, which is awesome.
