No one can take that from you
Jan. 24th, 2020 02:13 pmSo I just watched the first episode of Picard (thoughts under the cut)
So I went in not knowing much of what to expect beyond the trailers but what I saw I was definitely excited for (especially Seven Of Nine, though she’s not in the first ep) so what are my thoughts.
Obviously let’s start with the man himself. I wasn’t sure that we’d find out why he left starfleet so soon but I’m glad we did so that mystery wouldn’t be hanging over us. I liked his reasoning, that he wanted to save the Romulans and that he despaired that Starfleet didn’t seem to care. (I thought of the fleet as like Dunkirk before he mentioned it). I hope we find out if there was a second fleet gathered up, as he clearly had Romulans with him.
Speaking of one of them, I passed it part way through and amazon said one of them was Orla Brady. The name ripping a bell but I couldn’t place it, so after it finished I looked her up. She was Tasha Lem, from the Doctor Who ep with the Siege of Trenzalore.
I ‘liked’ the tension of the interview, in that it was well done and I could see how badly it was going to go from a mile away.
I felt so sorry for Dahj and her cute boyfriend. At first I thought those that attacked them might be a rogue group wanting to destroy synths, or even section 31 but them being Romulans put another spin on it. Poor Dahj dying though, I liked her.
I liked that Picard’s archive had the Captain Picard day banner. (And wasn’t the archivist from Nightflyers?)
It was nice to see the Daystrom institute and it sounds like there’s a mystery there, with the synths made there being the ones that went rogue and the creator going awol.
And then the last scene. One Narek is cute, I love him already. I’m interested why Dahj’s twin is with them (and why other Romulans went after. Her twin if they had her, but then they could be a splinter group). And then! That pull away! The Romulans having a Borg cube! What the hell! I want to know what that’s all about
So yeah I’m definitely intruiged with where it’s gonna go and I’m looking forward to it.

Date: 2020-01-25 02:33 am (UTC)It was great seeing Picard again and I'm glad it already has a second season - and that Whoopi Goldberg is going to be in it!!
But yeah, the tension of the interview was nicely done. Urge was strong to get up and slap the TV when the interviewer pulled that stunt.
I knew there was going to be more than one Dahj, as it were, as soon as she died so the twin thing wasn't a surprise. Data and Lorn are a set, after all. It was cool to see they kept that little detail in.
The Daystrom Institute ... I feel like they could spend an episode just wandering around the place and I'd be happy.
And Romulans having a Borg cube made my roommate all but fall out of her chair, I didn't see that coming, either.
SUPER EXCITE.

Date: 2020-01-25 02:39 am (UTC)Me too! I’m glad more of the cast from other shows are in it (I hope Janeway shows up too, or someone from DS9)
Absolutely! I could sense it was gonna go bad even before it begun and ugh....
Yeah and it makes sense with the necklace and all. And yeah!
I hope we get to see it more, it’s a place that was mentioned a lot but never seen.
Yeah! *flails over it* I can’t wait to find out more about that
I do remember reading somewhere that the Nerada, the Romulan ship that follows Spock’s into the past in Star Trek, had some sort of Borg tech in it, so maybe this ties in somehow
