Ride the wings
Jan. 2nd, 2020 12:23 pmAs a I’ve said in comments elsewhere, I’m not big on New Years resolutions so all I’ll say is I want to read more books and finish more games.
It’s strange since snowflake is now staggered, so there’s not a post to do today. I’m still gonna try and do ramblings every day this month though, so be warned.
I did a little writing yesterday but not much. Mostly I was snuggled up watching stuff, mostly BBC1 although I skipped sound of music to catch up on things I missed. I enjoyed the Miranda special and was presently surprised when Tom Ellis showed up. I didn’t expect him to be there so when he did turn up it was nice to see. Maybe I’ll iplayer it sometime.
The other two main shows I watched I’ll get to a little bit later.
Today’s plan is to do more Uni reading and then I’m not sure. I was gonna put on the bake off from yesterday but I might watch Star Trek Voyager instead. We caught an ep Monday since the digibox was still on Horror channel and so I wanna watch some more. It was such an awesome show and I’m glad Seven is gonna be in the new Picard series.
I might write tonight too, but we’ll see.
Anyway! So yesterday was the start of two new series, Doctor Who and Dracula, Thoughts of both are under the cut because spoilers.
First off, Who. Spyfall is, obviously, a Doctor Who take on Bond and it’s amazing that there’s not been anything like it before. I wasn’t sure how well it would work, but it did. Stephen Fry was great as C (though boo him being killed, although who did it? Sniper blasters don’t seem the style of the central threat) and it was nice to have a UNIT and Torchwood reference (though it made me miss them both). It was amusing that he seemed a bit... incredulous about aliens, especially since there’s been so many incursions over the past years.
I do enjoy the 13th doctor and her ‘fam’ so it’s good to see them all again.
Of course being a two parter it meant that none of the main mystery’s got solved. Who and what are the aliens? What’s Barton’s role in all of this? Why are they targeting spies?
And how can we not talk about that reveal! I honestly didn’t see it coming so my face was very much :O. I knew we hadn’t seen the last of the master/missy (although I did love the Missy incarnation) so I’m so glad to see him back. It makes me wonder what he’s up to and hope he’s in more eps of the series. (Maybe the first and last ones will be linked again?)
Anyway, I can’t wait till Sunday now.
After going on Stardew valley for a few days, it was time to watch the other new series, Dracula.
Now I’ve not seen a version of Dracula in ages, which I think helps for stuff like this. It was an enjoyable take on it, fun, funny, gory and I think it was just the right length. I enjoyed Agatha, the nun as she made me laugh quite a few times over the course of it. I also liked that Dracula wanted Jonathan as a bride (though the blink and you miss it sex scene seems to have gotten people worked up, ugh).
The end made me think of the From First To Last song ‘I’ll wear your skin as a suit’.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the other eps are like, especially the next one.

Date: 2020-01-03 12:24 am (UTC)Dracula is completely ridiculous - such a weird mashup of bits of the original book and homage to bits of the Gary Oldman/Keanu Reeves movie (especially in the soundtrack) - but a fun one.
I think the reaction's just been a very few shouty twits - same as the ones who complained about Johannes and Graziano in strictly probably - blech.

Date: 2020-01-03 12:30 am (UTC)Yeah, I love the ridiculousness of it. I’ve not seen the Gary Oldman film of it in awhile but it’s the one I remember
Ughh I hate people like that, shoo!
